Let me start with the positives about this hotel.

Researched this hotel extensively, including the rave reviews on TA before booking the Iberostar Averroes for a much needed vacation with my teenage son and elderly parents. The building itself is wonderful with well cared for lush gardens and plenty of space to find quiet nooks to relax, if you so wish. Beautifully spacious, newly decorated rooms - with a calm soothing decor and a moorish ambience incorporated into the design of the building.

We had a pool / sea view with balcony on the 3rd floor - would highly recommend this - just to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets every day. Quite apart from which the rooms were impeccably clean - with large comfortable beds and a very relaxing seating area. Bathrooms were large, and kept spotless. Fantastic idea to have the toilet separate from the bathroom - saved a lot of arguments in the morning. :)

Now to move onto the highlight of the trip - the food. What can I say - absolutely fabulous. Wide variety every day - starting from breakfast all the way through to dinner. Would be difficult for anyone to be picky - everything from freshly made pizza's, running the gamut from international cuisine to local delicacies. The only disappointment was the a la carte restaurant. We were really looking forward to it - but lacked in variety and flavour. Would not waste your time - and just stick to the main restaurant.

Although food is supposed to be available all day - that wasn't quite the case. Leftovers of the cold meats, salads and desserts from lunch are set out - but can get quite unappetising after a while. There was a pancake station at about 4, which was a good idea - however queues for one chap making pancakes - sometimes didn't make it worth standing around for. Would have been better to have snacks available through the day.

Can't comment on the alcohol, as I don't drink - but from what I saw, the choice seemed limited.

Pool was lovely, with plenty of space, and varied areas, including a swim up pool bar. However, even for the end of May - the water was cold, and there were minimal people actually in the water. This also meant that the water sports that were scheduled invariably did not happen. Was expecting the indoor pool to be heated - but unfortunately this was at the same temperature as the outdoor.

Spent a lot of our time on the beach - were easily able to get sun beds at any time, and found the sand to be kept clean, despite the camels wandering up and down the sea line.

Now onto the key let down for the Iberostart Averroes - the animation team. One of the main reasons for booking this hotel, based on the TA reviews, were the rave reviews given to the animation team. I found the team lacklustre at best. There seemed to be a few guests that the animation team got on with - so it seemed to be more a private party than hotel entertainment. Very little happened during the day - unsure whether this was because when we were there it was still low season, at the end of May 14. The evening entertainment was painful and amaturish at best. Takes place after 22:00 hrs, in a hall separate from the main lobby. Every time we went in, found a packed hall, at the beginning of the programme, with guests gradually wandering off within the first half hour - to leave a handful of die hards by the end of the programme. After a few evenings of lacklustre performances - we decided to play cards in the bar area as a more enjoyable evening.

This was a shame as we were looking forward to the evening entertainment - but other than this, I would highly recommend the Iberostar Averroes.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms - recommend asking for a sea / pool view. Definitely worth it - costs about £50 e...

We have just returned from a week at the iberostar averroes. Our reception was quick and attentive, our room being ready for us at 11am, which after an early start the UK, was welcome.

The room was on the 4th floor facing the pool, sea and beach. The rooms are big and looked like they had been modernised recently. The balcony was a good size with plenty of room, being up high, the view was fantastic!

The hotel is kept very clean and tidy, its true some of he furnishings have seen better days, however its still very comfortable. The pool is a good size, never feeling crowded. I found the temperature perfect, cold enough to refresh but warm enough to be able to spend a decent amount of time in. The only down side is that the pool spa area, which included a jacuzzi, spa beds and chairs, this seemed to only be activated 1 hour in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. As you can imagine as people learnt this, it was always packed. These would have been better having activation buttons so people could use them as and when they wished.

The all inclusive was good with 3 meals and snacks in between, which is just the left overs from the previous meal. You could also get tea, coffee, cakes and slush drinks pretty much all the time in the bar. I stuck to the beer and wine, which was ok, not the best, but drinkable. The pool bar is nice with very good barmen. The food choices was varied with loads of good salads and fish. I loved the harrisa and the anchovies.

I did get ill on my forth day, this was the worst case of stomach upset I have ever had and lasted about 35 hours. I know its difficult to pin point the exact cause for this, so wont try. Just thought I would mention it.

The beach is right in front of the hotel, with direct access. Unfortunately this is one of the worst I have seen of late. The amount of cigarette ends, litter, camel faeces and seaweed makes it feel dirty. I know the hotel can do noting about seaweed however they can manage litter, faeces and cigarette ends. The sea quality is not good here either, again I know this is not under the hotels control. If you want a perfect beach with crystal clear sea, this is not the hotel for you.

While we did not take part in any activities, the animation team seemed to do a fantastic job.

Overall we had a great time.

This looks a good hotel from the outside on arrival our room was not ready and we had to wait 1 and a half hours before we got into our room with no explanation other than room not ready when we got finnaily to our room the cleaner still there and we had to sit out on the balcony we had no blue tags or anything so we went to look for some lunch as it was getting to near to2 o'clock. The food is not great at this hotel you have to fight with the sparrows to try and get your meal a flock of sparrows live in the restaurant with nests in the light most night it was either fish, rabbits stew 1 night none of the drinks at the bar are cold and none of the mixers cola or tonic has got any fizz in because the tops of the left of the bottles so most. night we had flat gin and tonics as for this free cocktails you have to search for them please remember this hotel runs on tips if you want a good sunbed a good drink or a good table get your hands in your pockets there are no decent shops in and around this hotel to do any shopping other than gift shops which sell the same items at various prices rising from 10 dina up to 200 dana depending on what you were buying mostly for the same item. We mentioned a few things to the girl at customer services although she is very nice she is quite useless as she didn't do anything about anything that we talked about the one good thing what's the weather which was absolutely amazing

Tipping, although being part of the Tunisian culture, is not supported by our management, we have regular briefings with our staff to ensure the levels of service imposed by the company on a global level; At no time our staff ever pretends tips for the service they provide, some guests gives them a tip in recognition for their attentiveness, but in no way this is an obligation and we lament you felt you had to.

Moreover, we regret that you didn’t find nice shops around the hotel, which is located very close to the Medina, where you can find all kinds of products.

Finally, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the nice weather and we thank you for pointing out the professionalism of our staff, their kindness and helpfulness being one of our hotel's main strengths.

We have just come back from our first holiday in Tunisia, and im so glad we chose the Averroes hotel.We had such a lovely time. i can not believe someone wrote that the annimation team were no good, i think they must have gone to a different hotel. They ALL worked their socks off, bless them.Titto was crazy, anais was an absolute doll.All were so good it would take me forever to mention them all.The wine waiter Hassan was brilliant, as was the waiter Wanjar sorry if i,ve spelled your name wrong, but you all deserve a mention.We had no problem getting a sunbed @ stayed near the pool, cos the beach had a bit to much seaweed on it but that is no fault of the hotel.The manager was such a lovely man, so hand,s on, i have never seen a manager care for his hotel like him. Sadly there was just one little niggle, we had our anniversary while we were there, so went to the a la carte restaurant, and it was a bit of a let down compared to the rest of the hotel, it just did,nt come up to scratch, little choice, & we think nicer food in the main restaurant.We would certainly go again and have already reccomended the hotel, and i,ve only been back one day.THANKYOU ALL FOR A LOVELY TIME

We arrived just in time for the welcome meeting with Anthony. We enquired about the water-park which are rep had told us would be open however Anthony explained it would only be open in peak-season and even then its not guaranteed. He also advised that Hammamet was more like a village and couldn’t understand why we had come to this particular resort if we were looking for plenty of activities to do. Whilst the food and the rooms were far better in the Iberostar, the alcohol wasn't. Being on an all-inclusive holiday we wanted to take full advantage of the alcohol on offer however it seemed to have no effect you couldn't taste any alcohol. We tried various different drinks and found tequila to be the only one you could actually taste in your drink.
However, after drinking this throughout the day the bar informed us we had already gone through two bottles and that they didn’t want to serve us more but they could sell us a bottle of ‘strong’ vodka which was not part of the all-inclusive. This goes to prove the vodka on offer as part of the all-inclusive was watered down as they sold us a bottle of the same branded vodka which you could taste immediately. We were incredibly unhappy with this as we had paid specifically for an all-inclusive holiday so we did not need to worry about money for drinks, yet we found ourselves spending extra money on bottles of real alcohol from the bar staff.

The first few days at the hotel the weather was poor and there was no entertainment inside to replace the entertainment that was meant to happen outside so we had to find ways to entertain ourselves inside throughout the day . On the days when we were lucky enough for better weather there were activities available but they would finish at lunch time, along with the music that had been playing throughout the morning.

Due to the pool being so cold there were no water sports available either, although they were displayed on the activity board and appeared to be scheduled to go ahead. It became frustrating as we found ourselves struggling to find things to do every day and most days we ended up in the bar lounge playing cards to entertain ourselves – not the holiday we had all been looking forward to.

The evening entertainment was no better and we walked out on numerous occasions. On our last day at the hotel we were speaking with one of the animation staff who told us they were a new animation team to the hotel and this was their first season. Even though they were new, surely the point of an animation team is to be entertaining for the guests in any condition and if certain activities cannot proceed, then replacement activities should be found. Also a male member of the animation team who was known as 'Black' was extremely over friendly & touchy feely, he had no awareness of a persons personal space and felt the need to touch me several times and each time I moved away and said don't, in the end I think he got the message but it made me feel extremely uncomfortable and nervous.

My last point would be that know one advised us of the transfer times back we had to ask reception who told us there were books left out for us to read the info needed, there was also another welcome meeting which we caught with another rep who said we shouldn't ever get on public transport as they can take you any where this was left out from our meeting which wasn't helpful. And finally Anthony told us not to book excursions with other people as they can't be trusted so that meant we couldn't go quad biking as suggested.

We found this holiday to be a very disappointing and a frustrating week,we had been promised by Thomas Cook that all the things we wanted to do would be available and that the area we had picked would be ideal for three couples looking for a fun holiday. We were not looking for a clubbing holiday but a holiday we could have a drink, watch some decent entertainment and fill our days with activities that Gemma in Thomas Cook had told us would be available.

There wasn’t even any bars or restaurants to walk to outside the hotel despite being told Hammamet was a lovely area with plenty to do. As such we have come back from Tunisia incredibly disheartened and the whole week felt more stressful than relaxing.

Room was lovely, shower was nice. food repetitive, not a lot of options being a fussy eater I only ate the chips and bread served at lunch time, they should serve chips at dinner. Food wasn't always hot several times I had cold spag bowl.

Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your personal impressions on your recent stay at our IBEROSTAR Averroes hotel. It is only through our guests’ feedback that we are able to maintain and indeed, where necessary, improve upon the service that we provide to our valued guests.

We lament your disappointment on the quality of the All Inclusive alcoholic drinks; however, as reported both on our brochure and website, the drinks included in the All Inclusive basis are local drinks, renowned to be weaker than international beverages, Tunisia being a Muslim country; moreover we do not limit the alcoholic consume unless we see that guests are too inebriated and could be a disturbance to other guests, however on that particular day, it seems that we ran out of local tequila and offered you, for a stronger taste, the possibility to try the international Vodka, thus on extra charge.

Staying in Yasmine Hammamet in the beginning of May means that not all leisure activities and local shops may be open, in additions transfers are not organized by IBEROSTAR either; we regret your disappointment for not being informed correctly, however this is an aspect that we encourage you to discuss with your tour operator.

We were also very surprised to read your comments on our animation team, as if the activities have to be cancelled due to bad weather, they always organize games and entertainments for our guests to fully enjoy their holidays.

Last but not least, the gastronomy being one of the prime pillars of our company, our talented team of Chefs strives to surprise our guests with a wide array of both local and international delights following a two weeks menu rotation so as to ensure the possibility to savor many different flavors at every single meal; Apart from chips and bread, we always guarantee a wide array of both hot and cold starters, mixed salads, crudités, cold meats, couscous, tajines, grilled meat, fish and seafood, international dishes such as paella, pasta, pizza, just to name a few, a wide array of cheeses, fresh fruits and desserts. Each tray is being exposed for a maximum of an half an hour although some may last a little longer depending on the product. During the service our Chefs check the temperature again to make sure it is appropriate. Our hotel being HACCP certified we follow the strict food safety management system as per EN ISO 22000:2005 and want to reassure you on this point.

Please know, your feedback will be shared with the appropriate managers for further review. Thank you again for visiting us and we hope to get a chance to exceed your expectations in the future.

The animation team made the holiday! Without them it would have been very boring. They always try to get you involved in the activities, and they will come and sit with you to chat. Shushu and Tito were our favourites, but they're all great and so funny.

Great service, all of the waiters along with the staff are so friendly and are always bringing you drinks. There's always something to eat for the all inclusive, it's definitely worth the money. You should often give tips, then they'll look after you. The lifeguard will always try to find you a sunbed. The hotel is very clean!

Would be better if there was more than one plug in the room, but apart from that I can't fault the hotel at all, definitely want to return soon!

Lovely hotel , brilliant staff and excellent location, I cannot believe people have said poor reviews, my first time last year was brilliant ended up going clubbing with the animation team! On route to here Wednesday and cannot wait! Everyone is friendly even it's safe to venture outside the hotel however as it's expected in Tunisia for annoying shopkeepers, however soon leave you alone, great English food restaurant up the road which is cheap as chips. Food can be repetitive but no a big issue. See you soon! 2014
