We travelled to the Aziza as part of our honeymoon and stayed from 27th October for 7 nights. We booked through Buckley Travel (http://www.buckley-travel.co.uk/) who were able to provide the holiday with a large discount on the Thomas Cook online price and having booked a standard twin room they managed to sort out an upgrade to Sea View as it was our honeymoon.
I think the main thing to bear in mind with this hotel is that for the prices paid (usually 500-800 each) you can't expect the Ritz and must set your expectations accordingly.
Room - Clean, roomy, large bed, lots of storage space, nice balcony and bottles water (still and sparkling provided daily). Unlike other reviews we found our bed to be very comfy with no need to complain. Only negative was that there was some build up of mould in the bath/shower.
Food - We found the hotel to cater to many tastes and have a lot of options. Yes toward the middle / end of the week the lunch time buffet repeated some of the evening buffet meals from the night before but for an all-inclusive buffet this is to be expected - again taking into account the prices paid. We tried the international restaurant twice toward the end of the week and found the service to be spot on, and the food very nice. The TC rep recommended a restaurant in Hammamet called Bella Marina. They pick you up and take you home, approx £20 per head and it was a nice meal and good to sample the town centre at night.
Location - The hotel is located approx. 2 miles from the Medina/Centre of Hammamet and walked this to see the old castle and Medina, a taxi can be taken for approx. £1.50 each way. The walk to this area gives you a taste of the area, yes parts are untidy, buildings unfinished but if you want to sample the area you see the good and the bad. You do get stopped by locals both on the road and in the Medina, but like anywhere they just want your money, but if you say no thanks they usually leave you alone.
Shop - if you need a shop, if you walk right out of the hotel, on the opposite side of the road approx. 150 yards down there is a supermarket that looks small from the outside but is like Aladins cave inside - the shopkeeper does not hassle you, all fixed prices and we found this to be the best shop.
Beach - The hotel is right on the beach accessed via steps or a ramp. Area immediately in front of the hotel is clean and the sea is lovely. If you walk to the right for approx 1 mile the beach does have clean and messy bits, but the same way in which a local park or river will have litter - its impossible for every part of a beach in a developing nation to be 100% clear.
Pool area - this area was pretty good with plenty of beds. You could turn up at 10am and still have a choice of beds. There are a lot of palm trees that cast shadows, but I found that people always managed to move the beds to catch the rays. Found each couple of beds to have space around without feeling cramped by other people. The staff who run the outdoor bar are very friendly, serving beer, wine, water and soft drinks; however i would question the type of cups that are used, occasionally they appeared not to have been cleaned thoroughly. The pool was cold, but I found it very refreshing given the heat of the sun. Flies and wasps were occasionally a problem but didn't cause us to have to move to any other location.
Entertainment and staff - Staff are accommodating and friendly and most appreciate a small tip. Saif and Ghaza provide the entertainment during the day with sports, and you can take it or leave it without pressure to take part. The evening entertainment was mostly centred around the lobby with a half hour act - belly dancing, magic etc, all of which were enjoyable. The lobby played music until approx. 10.30pm, but it is still enjoyable to sit and talk. The pub is open until 12midnight and provides soft music and tvs. This is a smoking area.
Overall the hotel provided a comfortable level of stay, however it is probably more of a 4* rather than the 5thomas cook stars. The sign upon entering the hotel does actually brand it as a 4*. If you set your expectations accordingly, I would recommend this hotel.
