Our first vist to Tunisia and having heard a wide variety of opinions we weren't really too sure what to expect. Well it was fantastic and we would highly recommend escaping the aftermath of Christmas and celebrating the New Year at this truly friendly and hospitable hotel.
The staff at the hotel were so welcoming and attentive, always a smile on their face and ready for a chat. The room wasn't luxurious but the beds were very comfortable, it was clean a good size and had everything you needed. The only small grumble is that we were in a room above the entertainments room and on some nights we could hear the music until about 1 in the morning. Having said that it wasn't unbearable as we would have asked to be moved, I would sleep through an earthquake anyway and my husband bought some ear plugs.
The food was delicious with a good variety and plenty of it. The gala dinner on New Years Eve was superb and better than any Christmas meal I have been for here. Every course was piping hot and delicious, a true credit to the chefs, kitchen staff and waiters.
The weather at time of year isn't sunbathing weather but ideal for walking and exploring, reading and sleeping.
We went to both Medinas and both were pretty much the same, good fun if you don't mind a bit of banter and a haggle but if that's not your thing I wouldn't bother. We found that you were better off going to the fixed price shops, of which there are plenty around. If you do go to the Medina they will tell you that something costs e.g. 4 Dinar but when you come to buy it the price jumps right up and they will get a calculator out and tell you it's a 4% discount and so the haggling begins...
There is a heated indoor pool that looked very nice and a variety of activities available during the day for entertainment.
There is a great photographer, Amin, in the reception who you can book a photo shoot with. He spends about half an hour with you and his photos are fantastic, this comes from someone who really isn't photogenic. The cost is very reasonable you only pay for the pictures you like or can have them copied on to a disc to bring home.
Location wise it is close to the beach, marina, new medina and the shops. The beach seems to go on forever and obviously was very quiet at this time of year and lovely to walk along. There are plenty of taxis, buses, horses and noddy trains as well as camels on the beach.
I would highly recommend the hotel and the resort at this time of year for couples or groups of friends looking for a quiet, relaxing time.
