“A lovely relaxing escape from the snow”
Reviewed 3 January 2011

Our first vist to Tunisia and having heard a wide variety of opinions we weren't really too sure what to expect. Well it was fantastic and we would highly recommend escaping the aftermath of Christmas and celebrating the New Year at this truly friendly and hospitable hotel.
The staff at the hotel were so welcoming and attentive, always a smile on their face and ready for a chat. The room wasn't luxurious but the beds were very comfortable, it was clean a good size and had everything you needed. The only small grumble is that we were in a room above the entertainments room and on some nights we could hear the music until about 1 in the morning. Having said that it wasn't unbearable as we would have asked to be moved, I would sleep through an earthquake anyway and my husband bought some ear plugs.
The food was delicious with a good variety and plenty of it. The gala dinner on New Years Eve was superb and better than any Christmas meal I have been for here. Every course was piping hot and delicious, a true credit to the chefs, kitchen staff and waiters.
The weather at time of year isn't sunbathing weather but ideal for walking and exploring, reading and sleeping.
We went to both Medinas and both were pretty much the same, good fun if you don't mind a bit of banter and a haggle but if that's not your thing I wouldn't bother. We found that you were better off going to the fixed price shops, of which there are plenty around. If you do go to the Medina they will tell you that something costs e.g. 4 Dinar but when you come to buy it the price jumps right up and they will get a calculator out and tell you it's a 4% discount and so the haggling begins...
There is a heated indoor pool that looked very nice and a variety of activities available during the day for entertainment.
There is a great photographer, Amin, in the reception who you can book a photo shoot with. He spends about half an hour with you and his photos are fantastic, this comes from someone who really isn't photogenic. The cost is very reasonable you only pay for the pictures you like or can have them copied on to a disc to bring home.
Location wise it is close to the beach, marina, new medina and the shops. The beach seems to go on forever and obviously was very quiet at this time of year and lovely to walk along. There are plenty of taxis, buses, horses and noddy trains as well as camels on the beach.
I would highly recommend the hotel and the resort at this time of year for couples or groups of friends looking for a quiet, relaxing time.

We stayed for one week at the Chich Khan in November 2010. It is a very nice hotel built to look traditional such as the decor etc ect. Food was nice although mainly of a Tunisian Theme but you would never go hungry. They served Pan Cakes and Waffles in the afternoon these were very nice. All staff were very friendly and done there best to help you and assist with anything you may of needed. Pool area was very nice although needed a very good scrub and tidy up! All of the hotel really could do with a lick of paint as some areas were looking a bit shabby. We ate at the Italian and Oriental a la carte restaurants these were nice but we were in and out in about 20minutes! Overall lovely hotel and we very much enjoyed exploring Tunisia

I found the hotel to ben clean and spacious and had a great holiday here. Location is good, 2 mins from the beach, the shopping centre and the Marina. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The quality of the food was good and I was happy with the variety.
This is not a new hotel and it would benifit from a bit of a facelift. I would definitely come here again

the hotel was tired looking but very clean, the food was okay, but they can't cook chips, the people are polite, and helpful, maybe the people who complain should take a step back and look at their selves some of the brits are very rude ( and yes i'm english) The arrival was a nightmare but they are building a new airport so it should'nt take so long, if you have never been before go with an open mind after all its not England you are going to so things are going to be diffreant, HAPPY HOLIDAY

first impressions were good, lobby looks impressive, was spotlessly clean, and check in was quick and painless after very long journey from airport. the room was a good size and clean and comfortable, when i reported to reception that the tv had stopped working it was fixed immediately. the food at both breakfast and dinner was very varied and had plenty for even a fussy eater like me though being buffet style it was often only lukewarm at best - i would say the food was more 3 star than 4. the beer was expensive at £2.80 a pint for the local brew which brings me to my main gripe with this hotel- when the waiters realised i was not all inclusive and had to pay for my beer they were very quick to bring me more when i was running low, i relised why when i never got a receipt - they were pocketing the money and even had the cheek to look for a tip on top of that ! , when i paid with 20 dinar note their face fell and the big smile disappeared cos then they had to go to the cashier . the pool was freezing cold- i swam in the sea every day and that was warmer, also the guy looking after loungers at the beach was totally disinterested and spent most of the time sleeping . the resort itself is brand new and well maintained with the usual souvenir shops and restaurants - the best of two english bars is" the view" which is the smaller of the two but is very friendly and does good pub food esp. the chips!

Landed with 2 other flights - took 2 hours to get through passport control. Not one smile from any member of staff.
1 hr 30 mins to hotel from airport, as soon as forms are completed you can go for lunch when you have finished your bags are in your room. We refused 2 rooms as they were in the basement, very dark and had a damp smell.
The outdoor pool area was like sardines in a tin, and the flies drove us mad. The food outside was nice chips, burgers etc bar service was good.
The beach was just as busy minus the flies, you could get drinks and food on the beach saves going back up to the hotel (5 mins walk)
The animation team were rude and always hassling you to buy bingo tickets etc. The entertainment was in the basement, the room was awful smelt damp, water dripping from the ceiling. You would not be happy leaving your daughters unattended around the entertainment team they were quite happy to be rude, and be quite suggestive.
We did not like Tunisia the people are not polite, we would not return we would prefer to put money into a country that would be pleased to have tourists.
I would class this hotel as a 2*.
