We arrived at the holiday village manar on Sunday 25th may we had a private transfer which took about 45mins from the airport. Upon arrival we were met by friendly staff with a nice cocktail and the check in was quick and easy as they had set up a desk especially for checking in the new arrivals.
We were in our room within ten minutes and our cases arrived a couple of minutes later. We stayed on the 4th floor in manar 1. In my opinion the rooms with the swim up pools didn't look too great - the pools were small and they were isolated away from the main pools, entertainment and bars which kind of defeats the object of going to a holiday village?
The hotel staff were really friendly and we didn't tip until the last day but we didn't feel like we were being ignored or treated differently to any other guests. The food was great, lots of choice and really well cooked! I didn't try the omelettes until the second from last day and I was gutted! They were lovely! There wasn't really a "full English" option but hey we are not in England!
We took our 8 yr old daughter and she loved the kids club that was Thompson run and had different activities every day - in the past we've been to kids clubs that just have a playground and drawing etc, however this kids club is the best I've seen! raft building, zorbing, archery, canoeing, discos, face painting and lots more.

The Entertainment team are fantastic day and night with activities all day around the main pool ( there are quieter pools too if you find the entertainment too loud)
In the evening they had a good range of entertainment in both the lobby bar and the main hall- something for everyone and plenty of audience participation. Special mention to Davey who without a doubt will be on TV one day!
Bottled water was free here which is a nice touch.
Beach is lovely and water sports looked great fun and well organised
Overall we were very impressed with this hotel it's not 5 star it's a good 4star (it's not 5 star prices!)
We did not do any of the excursions but we took a taxi to the Nabuel market which cost us 10 dinar each way including a tip - the Thompson excursion to the same market was 25 dinar per person so it's worth going it alone if you want to go and do some haggling.
I class myself as a normal down to earth person, I don't get irate about silly things (it makes me smile reading reviews from some people who witter on about silly things I think these are just miserable people)
If you have kids of any age go to this hotel and have a great holiday!
If you don't enjoy it then you are a miserable so and so! X

This was our first time visiting Tunisia. We were a little shocked during the journey to Holiday Village Manar as our first sights of Tunisia made it look like we had landed in the middle of a war zone. None of the houses were complete builds and litter everywhere. However, the hotel was impressive and we were pleasantly surprised.
The hotels is lovely and clean. Staff very welcoming (drinks on a arrival) and treat you very well. There are just a few points that I found let the hotel down. I dont want these to put anyone off as it is a lovely hotel but as I guess the hotel management will probably check reviews on a regular basis I wanted to point them out as a lot of people had the same issues:
1. The kids club isnt big enough for the size of the hotel. Places are limited and therefore we often had to queue at least 20 minutes before the start of kids club to get the children in. As there were limited spaces (20 places available in a such a huge complex!) it saw alot of children disappointed. More staff and bigger kids club please, especially as it is a hotel geared up for kids!
2. The entertainment room that hold kids entertainment on an evening is far too small and stuffy. The room is set out as if for a wedding ceremony and the chairs are in rows rather than around tables making it difficult to enjoy watching the show as everyone ends up climbing over eachother! Its ridiculous really and needs looking at as everyone complained. It was also too warm and the music so loud some children were crying due to their ears hurting (we did complain and got the volume lowered!)
3. The shop needs to have set prices for all customers. They do have a tendancy to make the prices up as they go along which can lead you to get ripped off if you arent careful. We made friends around the pool and found that everyone who had visited the shop paid a different amount for the same products. Im fine with this outside the hotel but as a hotel shop I think it is a bit unfair to those who end up paying over the odds.

Apart from that we had a lovely holiday and despite the weather which was a little hit and miss, the kids had a wonderful time. Personally we wouldnt return but thats only because we would liek to try a couple of the other holiday villages but we did enjoy our week away.

This complex offers everything we needed with a young family. Good selection of food at meal times, with option to eat lunch inside the restaurant or outside at restaurant 'hut' wearing beach/pool clothes. Instant access to beach, with drinks bar and snacks. 6 pools ranging from toddlers to swim up bar. All staff were always friendly, some were especially good, making you feel 'looked after'; Wael at outside bar, Momo the legendary lifegaurd, Riadh at lobby bar, Zied our lunchtime waiter and Sana was lovely. Any request we had were quickly sorted and i would happily go back for a 3rd holiday.

Room Tip: I have stopped in complex A and B now and neither were noisy from activities/events. On this occasio...

We stayed here 18th May 2014 for 2 weeks . We had a great time , although the weather was very mixed at times but that could not be helped.
The service at the hotel is amazing, they cannot do enough for you. Everyone at the hotel will go out of their way to make sure you get what you need. This became evident as soon as we arrived when we were greeted in reception with a drink and registration was very quick, a really nice surprise.

There are 8 pools to chose from in the complex which is huge, and also the beach. It's a shame people reserve their sub beds every morning , sometimes at 5am ! There are notices up about this to stop people but this gets ignored. Anyway, there is no need to do this as the life guard will always find you beds, please complain to reception if this happens.

Make sure you have your visits to the Al La Carte restaurant called the Taj Mahal. The food is nice, it's a very pleasant atmosphere, but best of all the wine is amazing and much better than the stuff you get in the normal restaurant which is a bit like vinegar. Make the most of the wine!

The room was fine, bed enormous, I wouldn't bother with the rooms that have their own pool, they are very small and there are 8 pools at the complex, so no need really.

The hotel has it's own private section of the beach, beware of the guys who sell necklaces , they are fine, but they are very good salesmen, they have a tortoise which gets your child's attention, they then start putting the pressure on to buy things.

If you wAnt to do some shopping there is a fixed price shop outside the hotel much cheaper than the shop in the hotel (which seems to have the only miserable people in tunisia working in it). To get to it, go left outside hotel then left again (follow directions to the ATM), it's the last shop of the first ones you come to.

Outside the hotel is not great, there is very little to see, the cafés tend to be full of locals men mostly, they tend to hassle you a lot when you walk past, it's not great but you are safe enough. It's just the way they do things I suppose, they don't mean to intimidate you.

If you like playing tennis then take you own rackets and balls, the ones at the hotel are rubbish. There is a tennis coach (adel) that charges £14 per 45min lesson that's 35 Dinar. He will try to push his luck getting you to pay more for an hour, he was quite good for 1 or 2 lessons, but then seemed to spend more and more time on the phone talking to someone during the lesson, he will try his best to get you to have a lesson each day, he has to make a living I suppose. It was worth having a few lessons to burn off some calories so I didn't mind, and I learned a lot from him. It was a great workout really and also helped him to get get through all his phone calls.

The gym gets very hot, it has a treadmill and cross trainer. I only used it once, did 5k it nearly killed me.
The food in the restaurant is excellent, the best we have ever had on a family holiday. The bread rolls are really nice. Omelettes are amazing, freshly cooked, the guy who makes them is quite a character. There is a BBQ every night just outside the restaurant so make sure you check this out first. Don't eat too many of the Tunisian sausages, they are very rich and spivey, but very nice.

The Sports Bar is nice too, you have to pay for drinks there though, but they have sky sports. You can get a really nice bottle of wine for 22 dinar. The cocktails are fab too, also they kids can have a freshly squeezed orange juice for 2.5 dinar. It's a nice place to go for a change of scenery.

If you do eventually pluck up the courage to go out, then do it via one of the organised trips. We went on the Legends of Tunisia, this included a trip to El Jem which is worth seeing it has the best preserved roman amphitheatre in the world, but it took 3 hours to get there, it was a very long day, lots of travelling, nothing much else worth seeing really, but at least we satisfied our curiosity.

On reflection, this was probably the best holiday we have ever had as a family for this kind of price bracket. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony, if it's too late, then just upgrade when you get to the hotel.

Food was very good but a bit samey which is my only negative , plenty to do for the kids (13 and 10) and for adults too !, lovely room with a beautiful sea view , extremely clean with staff always out and about. As a seasoned holiday village veteran this has been a great addition to the holiday village choice. Food was great and staff helpful. But if you have been to one before you will know the entertainment format with i5live which is great but come on First Choice this is the same set of shows you have had for three years even on the same days so disappointed on this as my kids did not want to go it. Some of the entertainers seemed a bit flat and seemed just to follow the main staff. That said I would go back there as the hotel and holiday was great. Please though dont moan about the food not being britis enough. You are in Africa different foods and people and your abroad.
