Reviewed 14 August 2014

This is the 3rd Holiday Village that we have had the pleasure of staying at and so far the best! The hotel is beautiful, the staff are all friendly and the whole experience was truly amazing. We will definitely be going again!!!

Room Tip: The family themed room was amazing!!

A newly refurbished hotel, lots to do for the kids, 3 pools where you can relax or be entertained to suit your needs, a water slide pool, kids pools and walking distance to the beach. Security presence around the hotel grounds including the beach great touch. Food different theme each night restaurant dressed up each night as did the waiters. All the staff are very friendly as where the reps. Great entertainment at night for both kids and adults. All the staff work really hard to make sure you have a great holiday. Always a rep on hand should you need any questions answered. A great welcome and there are always some staff and reps to see you off as well. Changing money little and as you need from reception. Some shops out with the hotel 5 mins walk where the shop keepers are happy to serve you.Free Wi-Fi should you require it.Very clean through out the hotel and the grounds. Best holiday experience we have had as a family and would return again here or to another HV in another country. Was very hot at this time of year August 37oC most days.

Room Tip: We had a room to the left as you look at the hotel with a balcony which made a difference especially...

We stayed at this resort for a week from 23 July 2014. It very much caters for families with children up to teenage years. Lots for the children to do - kids club until 11pm, giving the adults some relaxation time. The hotel and particularly the restaurant were spotless - all the cutlery and glasses shone. I was very impressed. The food was probably one the best I've had at an all inclusive hotel - very fresh and cooked minutes before you ate it. Lots of pools and the entertainment was........well holiday entertainment!!!

The hotel staff were lovely, but I think more staff were needed particularly in the restaurant. A couple of times we wanted to eat outside, but couldn't because there were no staff around to clear tables. The other downside was that there were a few other activities, soccer or swim school that were provided for an extra charge. I like the idea of all inclusive being just that - nothing extra to pay.

That being said, a constant flow of food and drink, made our stay an extremely enjoyable one.

Family of 6, all children over the age 14, stayed two weeks during July/Aug 2014 across three rooms.

We were in Manar One – my partner and I were in a fifth floor room overlooking one of the a la carte restaurants on the edge of the complex but it afforded great views across the resort. During the daytime you did get the noise from the entertainment areas although it wasn’t over-bearing and on a night most of the late night noise came from the hotels next to the holiday village.

Our room was cleaned everyday with the bedding changed regularly as were room towels when requested. The mini fridge had water and milk in on arrival however there is a 'barman' patrolling corridors daily and you only need to ask and he will provide you with any requirements

Free unsecure wi-fi was available and had good reception in the bedrooms (Manar One) and lobby bar. Weaker reception in Manar Two and poolside.

At meal times there is a great choice of food even for the fussiest of eaters. Evenings are themed but a more general selection of food is still always available. A lot of the food is cooked fresh. You can’t get anything to eat once the evening meal has finished although the on-site shop do sell crisps, sweets etc. if you wanted to stock up in advance. There is a smaller selection of food and drink available during the daytime at snack-bars by the pool and the beach.

There are two a la carte restaurants - Indian and Tunisian, they have to be booked the day before and you can only use one of either per week. We ate at the Indian both times; you get a selection of three or four choices per course. The drinks are of a higher quality at these restaurants and you are served at your table as opposed to buffet style self serve.

The Steak House is available on a Friday but was chargeable – we didn’t use it.

Alcoholic drinks are included at the main bars, they are of a lesser quality than those available at the sports bar which are chargeable (5TND for a bottle of Heineken/Budweiser etc., 9TND for a cocktail such as Mojito). Service at the bars can be slow, especially during peak times but the bar staff work exceptionally hard to please.

Poolside we always found a sunbed, not always in a primary position though. If you ask one of the life guards, they’ll generally be able to find you a spot.

There is plenty of entertainment for everyone – from mid-morning to late at night. Kids clubs to suit three age groups are available plus family fun games in and around the pool. It is very hard to be bored and that includes older teenagers!

Evening entertainment is held in the amphitheatre. Early doors consists of games and fun for the younger kids. 8:45pm is bingo (bring your own pens!). 9:00pm a family game show. 9:30pm onwards was entertainment provided by the HV Team (Soul Night, Rock Anthems, HV Got Talent etc) or acts brought in (we saw singer impersonators, comedians, African acrobats.) Entertainment in the amphitheatre generally finishes around 10:30pm. Most nights there is a late-night quiz in the lobby bar.

I would recommend the Welcome Meeting – it wasn’t pushy but did give a good overview as to what was available both on and off the resort.

On the lower ground floor you will find a spa offering a range of services (you can negotiate pricing if buying more than one treatment). There’s also a hair-dressers and a male nurse.

Outside of the resort there are a number of shops within walking distance as well as an ATM machine. A local pharmacy and well-stocked supermarket are a short taxi drive away.

Excursions – worth working out which are best to do under your own steam (Nabeul Market for example) and which to book through the hotel. If you want to book a taxi ask at front desk and they will sort it for you. Highly recommend doing it yourself, it is far cheaper and we felt perfectly safe. Taxi to Nabeul for 6 was 20TND each way and it meant we could shop at our leisure!

A number of market stalls come to the resort twice a week selling jewellery, leather and wooden goods as well as the usual sunglasses and footwear. These are much more expensive than
Nabeul market even though you can still haggle.

Tip as and when you feel you want to. Nobody makes you feel like you should tip and the service is still exceptional but tipping does create friendly banter.

Shout-outs – there is a huge team that work hard across all parts of the resort – from hotel staff (front of house and bar staff) through to holiday reps, kids club supervisors, sports club coaches and of course the entertainment team however the following had a particular influence on OUR holiday , so thanks to (in no particular order!) – Dave, Davey, Sarah, Flo, Carly, Tom the Tech engine and Naz (barman in lobby)!

Could say so much more about the excursions, entertainment and Hotel but in a nutshell it was the 'best holiday ever' - quoted from a 15 year old this is a pretty good result!!

Room Tip: Room 1538 had great views across the resort but you could hear music from other hotels.

We stayed at the HV Manar for 2 weeks shortly after it had opened following a refurb and were not disappointed. Compared to the Thomson family resort in Skanes, the HV Manar is a world apart with non stop kids entertainment from the First Choice kids club staff, great excursions and plenty to do of an evening. The First Choice holiday advisor's work closely with the hotel staff to quickly remedy any problems and are always on hand for advice and help. The Kids Club staff all deserve medals for their commitment to ensuring that the kids have fun, we even saw the staff taking out a single kid for clown academy and they still gave 100%, well done.
Having been to two other HV we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a family swim up room and you can contact the hotel directly to get rooms in Manar 2 with a s...

Great centre for a family holiday. Not for singles or couples, although there is plenty to do but the kids have had the best holiday ever, the entertainment team are superb the best we have seen they work so hard and there is no pressure from them to join in. All staff are pleasant and give a warm greeting whenever you see them. Extremely clean and well kept. Only downside is the rooms are normal sized hotel rooms, the kids den works well but there isn't a balcony, try and get a swim up room if you need something a bit bigger, but if this is the only complaint it's not bad. Leaving the airport is bad but not the fault of the tour companies, it's just really badly staffed and takes too long and doesn't seem to be air conditioned. Back to the hotel, food is great ,drinks are average . plenty of sun loungers but people still like to reserve their spot at 5am, and not use it til 5pm, you know the type. This is a great hotel that looks after their guests. One of the best family holidays.

Room Tip: As mentioned try the kids den or swim up rooms.

Stayed early July for two weeks. Had such a good time last year we returned this year to a swim up room in manar 2. The huge negative this time for us was our experience at the airport. Long queues for customs and passport control with total chaos, they clearly couldn't cope. On our way home I was very rudely spoken to by airport staff and yes more chaos with two desks open and staff openly laughing at our plight. I was glad to leave tunisia and will not be returning. Shame as the hotel staff made us welcome and the mini fridge was replenished daily with wine, water and diet coke etc. our room was clean as was the whole resort. First choice staff could possibly do with some customer service training. I attempted book both daughters into the chocolate party and was told very loudly that my elder daughter 'should go to her own club' we have visited Egypt and Turkey holiday villages in the past, and are very accustomed to the processes - there was no talking to the rep who was very rude and very loud. Also the mayhem of the high ropes. No more booking of places means people push to the front (my daughters were pushed to the back twice) also flip flops being worn not very health and safety conscious. The only other disappointment was the lack of any dress code. Twice I observed people walk into lunch dripping wet straight from the pool. Sadly I feel the hotel will not uphold standards as they are at the behest of first choice. Lastly the price increase for next year is outrageous, I do hope that standards will be improved in line with the price increase. Tunisia relies upon its tourism it seriously needs to overhaul it's border force and the lack of customer service ethos when paying top price for holidays, this is a consideration when booking a holidays.
