I trust my wife to choose our holiday venues and this time she excelled. The Hotel, the staff, the food and the guests all combined to make our week one of the best family breaks. Our 12 year old daughter made friends from Poland, Germany, France and the UK and we did the same.
Whilst there we celebrated our wedding anniversary and the staff excelled in enabling me to deliver a series of nice surprises, for that most of all Adel on reception was superb, he organised a restaurant and a courtesy car for us, flowers and in the room. When we came down to breakfast our table was decorated with flowers and when we returned so was our room.
I would not want to stay here in the summer but Easter was just perfect. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of the staff, especially Adel and also the entertainment team who worked so hard. 10/10 for all. Hope to see you again

Room Tip: If you have children ask for a family suite, large airy and comfortable

Hotel on the beach so no extra charge for beds. Nice sandy beach. Plenty of beds around and able to move around. Pools nice and clean. Adult pool that is nice and relaxing.
Spa on site. Food not bad.
Location good.
Wifi only in lobby.

Just arrived home from an idyllic week at the Riu Marillia! What can I say?! Every single member of staff was incredibly friendly, our children 2, 4 & 6 said they preferred this holiday to Disney World, Florida (!) & this can only be down to the animation team, who took the time to remember each of their names, greeted them every time they passed & looked after & entertained them with many activities!! The food, great varied selection, changed every day, the hotel was exceptionally clean with great facilities & the weather was perfect! Can honestly not fault this hotel in any way, we were made to feel extremely welcome & would happily return tomorrow!!!

Just had a fantastic week here with the girls! The hotel is fabulous, so clean and beautiful, with wonderful staff! We stayed in a junior suite which was lovely, with views of both the pool and the sea! The room was great, and the maid did a fantastic job, leaving fresh flowers every day. The restaurant was nice, being allocated a table at diner made life easy, and the head waiter was such a sweetheart! The food was always lovely, lots of choice and an Italian section for the fussy people. Around the pool, there were always plenty of sunbeds available, and the staff would happily bring you cushions over. The staff around the pool work very hard to keep it looking lovely, and were always a pleasure to talk to. The pool olypic pool was great for serious swimmers, and the other pool was fab for chillin.
The animation team are absolutely fantastic, so warm and welcoming, and encourage you to get involved with all the sports; Fifi in particular works extremely hard, and always has a smile on his face, M is simply beautiful, and Ramsy and Sam are a little insane but a lot of fun! The entertainment at night wasn’t much to write home about, but the guys tried their best, and the waiters bringing constant drinks through made it more enjoyable.
Tip the waiters at the bar little and often, and they’ll put 3 times as much alcohol in your cocktails! Only bad point… some staff, particularly the waiters seem to think you’re insane if you don’t wana sleep with them, and the service wasn’t quite as good once we’d turn a few down, but apart from this everyone was lovely! Will definitely be returning soon!

Room Tip: Sea view is must,upgrade to a junior suite if possible,

My wife and I wanted a quick week's holiday away from work so we could just chill and hopefully get a bit of a tan, we got both. The weather for the second week in April was fantastic and we went home a good colour. If you wanted to join in the games that were on during the day you could (patanka, archery, bowls, table tennis, crazy golf, darts, etc..) or if like the missus just chill by the pool, all in all we had a great week and if anybody wants a proper lazy week this is it. If you want to get out and about their is a kind of pleasure beach called Carthage Land about ten minutes walk from the hotel where there is rides and boats that take you round the grounds where you can see a few wild animals. There is also a nice marina to walk round and a few shops to have a look in and apart from that it is pretty quiet.

When we stayed at this Hotel it was a Tunisian school Holiday, so very few British tourists there. We did find the local guests very rude and their children were allowed to run around with no regard for other people until quite late at night. We did find the staff extremely helpful and very polite. This Hotel is very very clean in all areas. We had a suite which was very nice and again very clean. The service in the Restaurant could not be faulted, but the food was not up to Riu standard by a long way. The first ten days it was very bad regarding choice, but I think it was due to the local clientele, as it did improve for our final four days regarding choice. We had undercooked chicken twice (raw inside) once I can excuse but not twice, the Manager was full of apologies but it should never have happened the first time. No fresh fruit ie melon, pineapple etc was offered only an apple or orange!!! The entertainment was a joke!!!! I do think this Hotel may be better during the summer months when another restaurant opens also another bar as we only had one which had NO atmosphere at all, we did have a man playing a violin for one hour once during our two weeks. We stay in Riu Hotels 3 or 4 times a year but will not return to this particular one even though it was a very cheap deal!

Good points : 1)Lobby is inviting on arrival due to gorgeous sea view.
2 ) Rooms are generally very clean

Bad points : 1) Be aware that the Hotel has been plonked in a very poor and under developed area of Tunisia. If you are considering walking out of the hotel then think again, you are confronted with a barrage of pushy street sellers who never give you a minutes peace to shop. Taxi drivers are known for pretending that their meter is broken, do not tolerate this!
2) Everything comes at a price in this hotel, tipping is expected for even the most basic services that a hotel should be providing anyway
3) The food is poor. Very cheap cuts of meat and fish are used daily. One day tongue was served and on most days the meat was turkey or mutton. The food was seldom warm and we only witnessed one occasion where the temperature of the food was checked. There seems to be a lot of 'recycling' of food between breakfast, lunch and dinner
4) The entertainment is terrible! The animation team hassle you all day and night to attend their bizarre quizes and games. The brochure advertises a games room, false advertising as this does not exist! Only one bar was open at night which totally lacked atmosphere. There was no background music or even a plasma tv with rolling news. The french and germans chain smoke constantly, so there was a constant fog of smoke in the bar. The bar regularly ran out of their cocktail bases by before 6pm and no more were ordered based on guest demand
5) There are loads of health and safety issues in this hotel! There is still some renovation going on in this hotel, so there is the strong smell of paint everywhere. The painters even left a huge bottle of turpentine out in the corridor one night for any passing child to drink!!! The hotel is poorly lit inside and out, with the internal lights being motion sensitive meaning small delays before coming on therefore walking in darkness at times. There is poor disabled access in this hotel, as there are many stairs. The stairs need stair runners as they are polished marble and it is easy to slip. The pool area has no obvious life guards or rescue equipment and has numerous raised mountings for parasols that are huge trip hazards
6) Don't expect any food after 8.30pm when the restaurant closes, there is no room service and no shops open in the hotel. The bar only serves peanuts, there are no bar snacks!
7) The beach can be a no go area if you aren't firm with the beach sellers who hassle you to buy cigarettes, jewellery and food or to get a camel ride on a poorly kept camel
8) The hotel is really geared towards French visitors, so most other tourists are treated as second class citizens comparatively
Moral of the story-avoid at all costs even if you get a cheap deal
