“The best of the behemoths”
Reviewed 1 February 2010

We spent a few days driving around Tunisia looking at ruins and frescoes and had no interest in visiting touristy beach resorts--especialy because it was January and freezing. However, our travel agent felt that the hotels at the Touristic Zones were the only ones up to scratch and so she scheduled detours each day so we could stay at five star hotels. We stayed in a few while we were in Tunisia and liked the Iberostar Solaria the best. It was also the newest and the grounds were in excellent shape. Our room was large and clean and had a balcony. The lobby was inviting and had wifi. The breakfast was excellent and included a crepe station. We were across the street from the beach (four lanes of traffic but well signposted) and there were cafes downstairs and shops as well as a dubious looking Tex Mex restaurant. In short, if a big beach with a lot of tourists is your thing, then Iberostar would be a good choice.

we stayed with my wife and a group of colleagues in the hotel for 3 nights...the hotel is located in a nice position in front of the beach in hamammet..
first of all..i need to say that the sea in hamammet is not bad but if you are used to greek beaches then there is no reason to return..just once is ok..
so..
rooms are spacious..very simple..mini bar is empty..there is no wifi in the rooms...
dinner...bad food...dirty place...
breakfast....not bad...but still you had the feeling that it was not clean...
drinks..i made the mistake to order a caipirinha and i was served something which did not taste like caipirinha at all
gym..there is a small gym with two three equipment..ok to keep fit for a few days
spa - pool ..we did not have the time to try...
concluding...i would return to tunisia for a desert trip next time but i would choode definitely another place and hotel..

My husband and i have just returned from a week at the Solaria,
Whilst we found the staff to be friendly, the service was ok but definately not 5 star, At breakfast the food was good and plentiful however it was annoying to have to keep getting up to get coffee, at other 5 stars we have been to the staff are continuously bringing around drinks, and that goes for the pool as well, if you wanted a drink you had to keep going to bar no one came around at all. Also be aware this hotel is not frequented by the english, in fact during our stay we where the only ones there and one of the staff told us they only get English people about once a month and then usually only about 2/3. The entertainers speak French/Spanish as they seem to be the bulk of visitors, so we spent most of our evenings out in the resort. the hotel entertainment is pretty lame as are most in all inclusives unless of course you enjoy karaoki and bingo !!! again in French/Spanish......

The hotel itself is very dated, and the restaurant looks more like a canteen, the seats are old and worn and table cloths need a lot to be desired. The bedrooms are clean but again very tired and dated althouth we did have a good sea view. the bathrooms have basic needs.

would i go back to Tunisia - Yes would i go back to the Solaria - No.

Which is a shame as we have stayed in previous iberostar hotels and they have been superb, maybe this one has slipped through the net.......

The staff at this hotel offer terrible service; they are rude, insulting, and treat you like thieves.

Also, this really is not a 5-star. 3, at best. It's a joke, and there are much better hotels for the same price around.
