“High class hotel but doesn't know how to be”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

The plus : Very nice design, from the hall to the rooms passing by the garden and pools. Nothing to say about that, it is very beatufiul. The beds and rooms are also very confortable. Actually, I believe it is one of the best beds I have ever tried in my life. Also very clean
The minus : Way to deal with the clients is very bad. We had a superior class room, and their was a sewer smell coming from the toilets (this was first honey moon night .....). The staff made the proposal to sleep there and wait the next day for changing, after they said to spray some airfresh ... Is this a joke ? sleeping in a sewer smelly room for a honey moon ?? After I said this was unacceptable they changed our room with a smaller one. There are other things like that which prooves the real lack of professionalism/clientelism there is. This should not be the case for the price of the hotel.
Conclusion : I give only 2/5 simply because it is unacceptable to have this kind of behaviors for this standards of hotels

The hotel is quite clean and has a courteous staff - however, if you need something (another beer), you may have to wave your arms to get someone's attention.

We arrived on 9 July in the midst of a hot summer (~40C/100+F). As you enter the hotel from the sweltering heat, you feel the cool air - but rather quickly you notice that it isn't as cool as you thought and the humidity creeps in. Many of the exterior doors around the lobby and the hallways are not closed to the outside. I also noticed the hallways are not air conditioned either.

Room temperatures are no different. I suspect the room temperature is hovering around a moist 80F - and this with the fan on high, temperature on the lowest setting and AC on.

Otherwise, the food in the restaurants is very good and moderately priced for hotel restaurants. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was decent. Mostly European fare (as most of the tourists are European) so I 'get it'. There is an egg to order station, but he's only been there one day out of four so far (today) - and this was also the day they ran out of strawberry juice! I hope that got more from the store today!

The view of the sea is spectacular! Once leaving hotel grounds, the city is not very clean - but the new government appears to be working to get that corrected. You are close to shopping and other restaurants. During summer I don't recommend walking - spend the few Dinar for a cab!

Room Tip: I only give the room average because the AC only gets it down to 80F.

The concept of the building is not clear : is it a holiday resort or business hotel?
The rooms are to small for staying more than a week, no infrastructure for the beach.
On the other hand, a wonderful spa and fitness, great outdoor restaurants.
The architecture, interior lighting and decoration, the lounge atmosphere are beautiful integrated.
The staff is doing their best, but many are not well trained. So in the morning, you see the maitre d'hotel running with dishes, and some waiters walking as if they are in holiday.
Maintenance of the technics isn't always on the proper level.
Staying in the hotel for a business meeting or congres, yes, that would be lovely.

upon arrival they had overbooked the hotel and tried to get me to move to a different hotel. they claimed "water damage" but we are not stupid are we? After flying 36 hours from Australia, not a chance. After digging in my heels they soon found me a room right out front of the beach. The setting of this hotel is amazing, just be aware of the slack service (I thing they really do try), expensive food and drinks, average quality of the food and WI-FI that comes and goes. Reception is hit or miss, some really nice staff, some bordering rude. All in all a good choice but suggest to eat most meals along the beach at local restaurants which are much cheaper and supporting the local economy better... La Marsa btw was a pleasant surprise, would go back again as the weather is just so reliable and felt very safe even outside of the complex. Security within the complex I found to be excellent.

I am living in Gammarth for a while now and I have many guest and colleagues staying at this hotel. What I hear all the time is that the hotel as such is good, but the service and the value for money are not good at all. Yes, if you have to come to Tunis for business or holiday, then the hotel is a good choice. But if you can choose a different destination, then do so. Unless you like to walk through piles of rubbish leaving the hotel or love dealing with 3* service at a 5* price.

Room Tip: Don't hesitate to get back to reception when you have the feeling that the room is not clean or...

My wife and I stayed here for a week, and came away incredibly disappointed.

But first, let's start with the good things:

1. The setting is amazing. Walking out of our hotel room we find the Mediterranean just a few feet away. If we leave the door open, we can hear the splashing of the waves on the shore. It's hard to beat the location, and the decor and architecture of the entire hotel is incredible.

2. El Omnia, the new Moroccan restaurant there, is quite excellent. Food, ambiance and service are top notch.

3. The Front Office Manager. She is amazing, and worked hard to make sure all of our issues were resolved to the best that she could (although many were outside her control).

Unfortunately, pretty much everything else ranged from just mediocre to over-the-top disgusting:

1. The place stinks during the summer. There's no other way to put it. We checked in, got to our room, and opened the door only to find a horrendous smell of sewage in the room. We called the reception and they sent a housekeeper who came in to the room, smiling, and just sprayed some stuff in the air and walked away. We were incredulous, and so they eventually put us in another room. You can smell this sewage smell throughout the hallways of the hotel, which they try to overcome by lighting fragrant candles. In our second room, things were fine, until one particularly hot day we had the same problem, and so they moved us to a third room. This was fine until we turned on the AC, when we realized that its air intake was taking in air smelling of sewage and pumping it into our room. We eventually settled for hot but breathable air to cold and disgusting. I would not recommend going to this hotel until this smell is contained. The manager told us that this was a known problem they were dealing with throughout the hotel, and that they're working on. I hope so.

2. Service is subpar throughout. For a supposed five star hotel, the service is abysmal, particularly when it comes to housekeeping and food (the new El Omnia restaurant is an exception--it's quite fantastic). In the room, for example, we found dirty sheets, which were replaced by more dirty sheets (with obvious stains on them when we got them).

3. The Horizon Restaurant. This is where breakfast is, and if you stay at this hotel, you will find yourself paying 29 dinars per person per day for it. You would be better off buying a baguette, cheese and yogurt from Monoprix or any other supermarket, in terms of quality and price (which is in fact what we did towards the end of our stay). The first day, we noticed that all the cups put out by the juice stand were dirty. The second day, we found flies flying around the food on the buffet, and it took a guest's complaint before any of their staff actually did something about it. This was typical of the indifferent service in this place--the level of care often seemed more fitting for a secondary school cafeteria than a five star hotel.

Overall, this was a very frustrating stay, because the hotel itself is so beautiful, the architecture is beautiful, the rooms are beautiful, the sea is beautiful, the location is amazing. However, the service is so poor that all of this is for naught. Future visitors to Tunis should consider staying elsewhere, especially if they come during the summer, as paying 200 Euros a night (not including breakfast) for smelly rooms and poor service is a waste of money. Skip the hotel, and just come to El Omnia for dinner.

my first visit in tunis was in this great 5* hotel, very quiet, amazing view on the sea ,beautiful lobby and a pool restaurant is remarkable but the must is the spa ,i was very surprised when i visited this place after my chek in(very late because my room wasn't ready at 5) by the cleanliness of the spa ,the beautiful smell of lemon,i booked the ritual for couple (me and my girl friend)she was afraid after our welcome not successful in the hotel, that we will have the same in the spa but i assure that staff there is very professional, smiling, especially the manager ,she took care of my girl friend and helped here choosing this royal service ,trying to explain the content of their spa menu in Italian, thing not very easy for the rest of the hotel staff, thinks to this smart&beautiful black eyes manager (i forgot her name,i want to say think you).thinks also to kouter &zora estheticians i never forgot my first massage .
Some negative points disturbed our stay in the movenpick tunis:
food wasn't very good and the service in the restaurant is very poor, you need to have a lot of your time expecting a waiter..
My room was perfect but the air conditioner never worked, with the poor connection of internet(we have access 1 hour a day)
i called a reception for many tasks but they never respond to my request, i saw also the general manager of the hotel but i didn't say anything because of the politeness of the men,the spa in this hotel is excellent the hotel of this spa is good,i'll try to revisit this enjoyable place in December for my birthday; thinks to all especially staff of the Kallisti spa.

Room Tip: premium rooms are the best 262
