Golden Tulip Carthage Tunis
Ranked #3 of 6 Hotels in La Marsa

I went to Tunisia for a business trip and stayed in Golden tulip.

The hotel staff was very friendly. The food was o.k especially breakfast service was not good. However, the italian restaurant was magnificent.
The room was clean but it was alittle outdated and looked old. The front desk staff was very friendly.

It was an o.k stay for me
Very secure place.

The room is nice. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools are awesome. However their room service was a disaster. I was so hungry after a long flight so I ordered a pizza. The man on the phone seemed to understand everything well. 40mins later I called to double check on my order. The same man said it would come in 5 mins. 20mins later I called again, nobody answered. Suddenly one lady showed up at my door and asked me if I called for room service. I asked her about my pizza. She said the man did not speak English and asked me to wait another 20mins for my pizza. I was starving by the time the pizza reached. I am sure you can find a much better places in town where there are plenty of shops and restaurants around.

It's a huge posh hotel: massive lobby, spacious rooms, roman-style is everywhere, BUT it requires a serious rework (actually i was told it is under reconstruction at the moment). Furniture, amenities, everything is 20-30 years old.
the staff is very friendly, but the place itself is in the middle of nowhere and you cannot get out without a taxi/car. The beach is 5-10 min away on a car.
The swimming pools and gym is nice, but hammam is for additional price (as well as massage and the rest of spa).
and it's priced as 5 star hotel. if you add here unavoidable overpriced meals at 3 restaurants in the hotel the bill is growing pretty fast.

Some very good facilities at this Hotel but it is a bit remote from Tunis and Carthage. You would need to get a taxi as there is not a lot to see on foot. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with fridge/minibar and kettle. We requested a double room but as is common in many hotels we were given two singles pushed together. The result was that the two headboard reading lamps were position between the pillows and the beds were made up as singles. Tunisian hotels appear to be very male orientated and the bar had FOOTBALL on a big screen and lots of chaps sitting smoking and ignoring it. The couple who did venture outside to the terrace in the evening were locked out and had to bang on the window, only to be ignored by the staff. Staff could do with a bit of training. Despite table service it was necessary to go to the bar in order to get service. They would tell to "please sit we will come to you" then you would wait while they had a chat. Locked out of room I walked the 200 yards back to reception and explained. they took the electronic key and reprogrammed it then held it out, I waited for a comment, they held out the key, I waited, they waited, "no need to apologise". Pardon? Doesn't matter. Carpets and pillows have been upgraded, bathroom and shower very good. Rooms on the second floor have no outlook despite being on a hill you only see a big hedge. The buffet service meals are excellent. A wonderful variety and beautifully prepared. A good hotel but not quite 5 star and in need of a bit of in-service training.

Room Tip: Take ear plugs, dogs and the early Imam

The major structure of the hotel is nice but the room and the bedding equipment need renovation..The blanket is ugly..! They used this kind of blanket in a 2 star hotel..The pillow is too big..I got my neck pain the day after. The pool is nice though but the pizza is disgusting..

Room Tip: The room can be very far away from the lobby and all the corridor can get you lost easily..

This hotel claims to be a 5 * establishment, but in my view it barely achieves a 3 * The hotel needs major renovations, the main restaurant served uninteresting buffet-style food, and the service was less than stellar. I would not recommend.
