We stayed here at the end of June/start of July this year and absolutely loved it. As a riu we expected nothing less than 5* and we weren't disappointed.
The room was ALWAYS spotless with clean towels every day.
The food was always of a high standard with lots of variety. Anyone that complains is obviously fussy as there was always at least 4/5 different types of cooked meat plus fish as well as lots of other options. You will never go hungry - fresh crepes at the pool bar between lunch and dinner is the best!
The pool and surrounding gardens were immaculate - no rubbish lying about and always seen gardeners and cleaners every morning. The beach is narrow but is gorgeous. There is seaweed depending on what the tide brings in but the next day it's normally gone. There are sellers on the beach but simply say "no thanks" and they'll leave you alone. The sea is waist deep almost as far as the buoys. You can do watersports - banana boat, tubing and parasailing as well. (Not hotel organised)
The spa is amazing, full body massage and mud wrap for £30! So tranquil and relaxing!
Outwith the hotel, unfortunately, there is not much to do however you can go on trips to the main town of mahdia which is brilliant. (Esmerelda train is a must!)
All the staff are wonderful! Mr Mohammed the manager was lovely and always about if you needed anything. Hats off to all the waiters and bar staff for remembering orders and to all the animation team and pool boys for working in the 40degree heat!
Cannot fault anything other than lack of things outside the hotel but that's not the hotel's fault.
If you are looking to relax in a beautiful place this is it!

Just recently came back from this hotel and i cant fault it. the hotel it self is lovely very clean and well presented.

Food - breakfast they had quite alot of choice, pancakes, fried eggs, beans, sausage, porriage, cereal, the the usual stuff you prob expect they had.

dinner time - the main resturant i didnt actually go in at dinner time as you couldnt wear swimming gear in there or if you was wet. however there is a pool bar and that does pizza, chips, salad, burgers, pasta, rice, puddings etc

evening meal - lots to choose from here pizza, pasta, garlic bread, rice, chips, gammon, lamb, turkey, beef joints, roast potatoes, vegetables, salads, jacket potatoes, lots of bread to choose from. there was always something to find to eat. didnt feel the need to tip everytime i wanted a drink etc however i tipped at the end of the holiday. the manager came around every evening and asked if everything was ok with the rooms food etc we ended up having a cake one night made for us as it was my parents 29th wedding anniversary and a friends birthday.

DRINKS - soft drinks coke, lemonade, orange. they had coke zero in a bottle. alcoholic drinks - vodka, rum, whiskey, gin, wine, beer.

Rooms -when we arrived the towels had been put in to heart shapes and swans which was quite nice. the rooms were very clean, two beds together was abit of a let down but it was ok. the bathroom and toilet was seperate. theres a fridge in the room if you want to keep water cool etc and a massive wardrobe. the safe was FREE in this hotel. the decor is abit dated but there was a dressing table, table and chairs in the room. i had a bit of a carry on with the hair dryer i the bathroom you have to keep the buttom down for it to work so if your reading this if youve got long hair just take a hair dryer its alot easier.

ENTERTAINMENT - the animation team really did work really hard to make sure your holiday was great. however the shows were abit hit and miss. bingo took forevvveerrr.

POOL AND SEA - the pool was big enough for everyone, it was clean and really cooled you down in the heat. the beach was a private beach so ou didnt have to pay for sun beds. you got a card for your stay at the hotel and this was for pool/beach towels you could change these as much as you wanted in a day.

OUTSIDE THE HOTEL - i agree with some people here that out side the hotel it does look abit of a dump however dont let it put you off going to this hotel. theres a few shops which a fixed prices and you can get some things really cheap. just up the road theres a zoo but more like a farm and it cost about £1.20 to get in.

cheryl the rep was one of the best reps we've ever came across very knowledgable about tunisia and couldnt help you enough. we wanted to go to the water park in sousse however there wasnt enough people going however she managed to sort it out for us to go on a little coach and pay the extra for the transport and we ended up paying less than if we went on a big coach.

hope this helps people that are looking at this hotel :)

Just spent 11 nights at this hotel and had the time of our lives. The staff are friendly, polite and cannot do enough for you. A special mention to Brian our dedicated waiter, Waleed our waiter in the bar and Aiden and the entertainment team. My wife would also like to thank Fatima who always had the time to sit and have a chat. If you get the chance do the camel ride, it's a blast. Also do the quads, but use the 250cc, so much faster. All in all would recommend any couple, family to go here, it is great

Recently got back from our 2nd visit to this hotel and really can't fault the place , we were worried it wouldn't live up to our visit last year but it ticked all the boxes again for us!
Great location , very clean & tidy , very happy / friendly staff & excellent food!

Stayed here for two weeks from 25th June. Some people must just go on holiday to write bad reviews! Cheryl wonderfully helpful and as she lives in the area knows it as it really is. This was our fifth time in Tunisia but first in Mahdia. Would definitely go back.
Journey from airport no problem in 4x4 Taxi with very friendly driver. Even stopped at service station to get his 4 passengers bottles of water. Arrived hotel about 11.00pm and given welcoming drink and guided to lovely cold buffet which was laid out for us. Then off to the bar for a nightcap. All required information re meal times etc. on card in room and readily given verbally when asked for. Do some people want this info up in neon lights!
Great choice of food and most dishes cooked fresh in front of you. Room was lovely and the service from all the staff second to none. Pool area kept superbly clean and no problem getting sunbeds only like most hotels these days you did have to put the towels out if you wanted an umbrella. Thanks to pool man Lofty.
Great hard working animation team with special mention to WaWa, Diego and Louis Suarez!!!
People criticise Mahdia saying there is nothing there and that it is dirty. Get real you wimps! This is a true Tunisian town with real people living and working here. For God's sake enjoy learning and sharing a different culture. Fish, meat and fruit markets are amazing don't miss them.
If you want tourist towns go to Benidorm!
A superb Tunisian holiday and will definitely return.

Iv just come back from 11 nights in the Riu, staying with a friend . We absolutely loved our holiday . Our room was cleaned to a high standard every day by the maids , even making us swan towels covered in petals each day. The reception staff were friendly and very helpful . Our rep Cheryl was also really helpful , giving us lots of tips and she knows the area so well. Lots to do in the day , the pool was never to busy. There was always an activity going on like archery or volleyball , or you could take a short stroll onto the beach ! The watersports on offer were really good, you can haggle with the beach staff to get cheap prices for jet skiing and paragliding . I recommend the jet skiing as there is a strong chance you will see wild dolphins out at sea ! The animation team were brilliant ,all friendly and hard working , they put on good shows every night and were also really helpful if you wanted to go shopping ect ..
I recommend going out of the resort at night into the city to one of the cafés for drinks ( tea coffee) , it's a good way to experience Tunisian lifestyle , and it's perfectly safe too. Taxis are 5 dinar each way so roughly 2 pound each way . The only bad point was that people get up as early as 6am to reserve sunbeds around the pool !!!
I went to re book for November time as soon as I came home but it's so popular it's fully booked !!!

Room Tip: Garden rooms looked the best !

I'll break it down in sections for ease...

TRANSFER: Shockingly long and the coach driver seemed to prefer overtaking on bends. No accompanying Rep from Thompson.

ARRIVAL AT HOTEL: Given no information about what was happening regarding dinner times etc.

ROOMS: Actually very clean, they are a bit tired but for a week stay they had everything you need and the Maids worked hard and made the room up each day

FOOD: If you've done all inclusive before you're going to be aware that it is what it is. It's not your mum's best roast, but then again it's not completely un edible. There is a choice so you can usually find something to eat, I survived on chips!

ENTERTAINMENT: The evening entertainment was amateur at best and I don't think it would make it past the first round of Britain's got talent. During the day the animation team worked hard and there was stuff to do if you wanted to get involved.

HOTEL STAFF: If you are German then you were looked after really well, but unfortunately the other nations had to fend for themselves... as an example, each night when we went for dinner (at our alloted table) we always had to get our own drinks (despite tipping really well) yet the four German tables around us were waited on hand and foot...

HOTEL SETTING: In a slightly sarcastic term, the hotel is set neatly and beautifully in the middle of Beruit! Mahidia is a massive hole to which it seems the rest of Tunisia put their blue carrier bags and general waste.

Being a Muslim country women are not seen out as much and the area is populated with 18 - 30 year old men, who feel that it is perfectly acceptable behaviour to whistle and letch at every western women who passes them.

TUNISIA: Not for us again, I wish we had maybe tried a different area and got a different opinion of this country, but we didn't and we haven't.

GERMANY: I grew up in Germany so I was really shocked to see the behavioural differences from what I remembered. Arrogant and brash with a complete disregard for anybody else. I have German friends who live in the Uk; maybe I can now see why they made a choice to move there!

The above being said, Germany are the powerhouse of Europe and they strut their stuff accordingly, i'm sure we did the same in the 1900's. ..

SUMMARY: If you are looking to stay at a poolside and do nothing for a week or two in baking hot weather this is the place for you.!!
