do not stay at this hotel recently got back would not go again, the rooms was dirty, meat raw, only larger on tap, red or white wine, nothing for older kids to do, got kids club for under 12's but they speak german, nothing around the hotel just dirt roads, they don't tell you that in medhia they only have a market on a friday thats it, the beach was nice if you can get there from being on the toilet so often, would not recomend this hotel to any one unless they can speak german

Hi. I just returned from the El Medhi Hotel and it was a nightmare. We arrived in the hotel around 1am in the morning, we were shown to our rooms, our room had no blankets to start off with. and was facing a brick wall. We complained to recepion and we were told to wait two days until a group of 350 germans had left, The hotel was 95% german... so it was all catered for them, the english were treated as second class citzens. The food was really awful. There was cabbage for breakfast, you were lucky to get a fried egg ... there was nothing for the english tourist... while i was there around 20 people got food posioning, as the meat was undercooked and still had blood poring out. We were disgusted to only have had one viist from a thomson rep withen our ten day stay... and that was on the first day. We had to sort all our problems out ourselves. We later saw her and the airport , and informed her off the food posioning, all her reply was , did you have the doctor out to prove it????!!! The entertainment was poor as it was catered for the germans,,, the entertainment was in a room across the other side of hotel, you had to walk to recepion bar to fetch your drinks, the nighttime shows were not that good at all. The ALL inclusive drinks part was a rip off, all you could have free was cola, sprite, soft drinks, gassy watered down bear, red or white wine or cocktails after 8pm , which they mde everyone have a bad stomach. Being a young girl, me and my sister were constantly harrases going to the shops, what little shops they have by locals wanting dates and to be our guides... everytime we left the hotle was nightmare so in the end we were confined to the hotel... which then you were still harrased by employees of the hotel in the complex wanting to take you on dates etc etc.... I would never visit this hotel again!! Worst hotel i have been. The surrounding area is also a dump and theres absolotuely nothing to do, it was like being in a prison camp for 10 days""" DONT GO THERE

The el mehdi was an absolutley beautiful hotel, set right on a glorious white sand beach. The sea was warm and clear, i have never seen a nicer beach!the hotel stood in beautiful, clean, well maintained gardens filled with palm trees and other exotic plants. Our room was also amazing, it was spacious and cleaned everyday by the maids and the air con was fab!our room also had views of the sea and beach, which was lovely.the weather was beautiful all holiday,it was very hot(about 34-40 degrees celcius every day!we forgot what clouds looked like!!the maids in the hotel couldn't do enough for you and the entertainers, especially Tom,were brilliant, and the kids club always looked like they were having fun! There was lots to do in the day, the entertainment team always kept everyone amused, whether they had you playing waterpolo, doing aerobics and aqua aerobics,or playing some silly game, you never got bored in the day! During the holiday my friends and I went on a boat trip,it was very cheap(about ten pounds) that included all your drinks(no alcohol was served though!)entertainment(a bit amateur but still very fun!) and also a meal which consisted of freshly grilled fish and salad and bread and watermelon-the fish wasn't to everyone's taste but i enjoyed it!while on the boat,we saw some huge jelly fish which were very scary and dolphins!that was definitely the highlight! On the hotel's beach, there are water-sports run by a local who is absolutely lovely and will give you a good price if you ask!we went on the banana boat, which was good but not very bouncy, because the sea was always so calm!and we also went on the jet skiis which was really fun! Where i feel this hotel let itself down, was the staff.Being English at this hotel we were definitely in the minority,it is run by a german chain of hotels, so as you can guess most of the guests were German. the staff(restaurant and bar) definitely favoured the Germans.we constantly found oursleves being served last even when we had been waiting at the bar for a lot longer than the germans they served before us.this was very irritating, but we didn't let it spoil our holiday! The restaurant was huge and there was always alot of choice, there was always fish, some sort of meat(one day it was rabbit!!eww!) and chicken and potatoes and sometimes chips.but again,we felt that the food was directed more at the german guests.the food was of good quality and there was fresh salad and pasta at very meal.the best thing about the restaurant was the pizza oven!thats what me and my friends lived off!every lunch and dinner, fresh pizzas were made in the restaurant, the only downside was that there was always a huge queue for it!breakfast wasn't the best,it consisted of weird looking hot food and yogurts and stuff.there was a toaster, so i just ate marmite(which i brought from home!) on toast every day!one thing i would definitely say is bring your pg tips!!the tea over there just isn't the same! the worst thing about the holiday was the resort,it is perfect for families, but with my group being aged 18/19 there was just nothing to do at night!we found ourselves going to bed at ten most nights!we were no where near any clubs or bars or anything and i imagine a taxi wud cost a fortune to the next town!Mahdia is a very traditional area of tunisia, which i guess is the reason it is so beautiful, its not very built up at all.the problem of nightlife would be the only thing stopping us from goin back!also the whole you have to be over 21 to drink is a load of rubbish!we wer never even quizzed about our age,and there wer kids who looked about 14 being served alcohol!ther was a club in our hotel, but yet again,it was german music and full of germans,so we stayed away!they definitely weren't the friendliest i've ever come across. oh, one more thing which we weren't happy about was the lack of choice in alcoholic drinks.you could hav red/white wine(which im sure were watered down) and beer, yes that really was all you got all inclusive, apart from after 8 o clock at night you could have a 'bukha'(locally produced spirit) cocktail which was nice but was the same as the other alcohol,no chance of making you even a little tipsy!apart from the drinks and the nightlife it was a fab holiday and i would not hesitate to reccomend it to families and people who aren't nightlife lovers!i wish i could pick the hotel and beach up and plonk it somewhere lively,it would be perfect!one more thing,if you visit the market or the hotel shop, don't forget to haggle!!you will always get the price you want as they are so poor they don't want to turn away any money!i got a huge ceramic dish hand painted with a camel on for ten dinar(About 4pounds!!)very cheap!if you are going to this hotel im sure you'll have a wonderful time as it is in the most beautiful place and make sure you join in with all the activities!!!also,we got he holdiay very cheap(600pounds for 2wks all inlusive!)so was worth every penny!

where do i start. We arrived at the hotel early hours in the morning with a rep. on arrival i was informed that one of my rooms was not ready by the rep even though it was booked a year ago then the rep just leaves you there trying to communicate with staff who do not help as they are unable to speak any english,we thought we would be able to sort it out in the morning how wrong we were. In the morning i went straight to reception as one of my family had to sleep on the floor not the cleanest i might add but was told there was nowhere to move to. when the thompson rep arrived which i might add is only twice a week i again asked for my room to be sorted eventually it happend ten days later. we were informed it was an all inclusive hotel the brochure is so wrong it also states it has an alacarte restraunt dont be fooled as this is only the name of it we tried all three and unless you like raw food dont expect to eat much. on one occasion we decided to try the barbacue when we brought the food to our table we realised the chicken was raw, again this was brought the the reps attention but nothing was done we were a group of nine and not one of us ate a decent meal between us. i also phoned the thompson helpline on several occasions as i was more concerned that the children in our party were not eating but again nothing was done. The rooms were dirty , the staff are rude and abnoxious unless you are german and the people trying to sell you excirsion are horibble to you if you do not want to go. I could go on and on but i do not have enough time but whatever you do even if you have already booked do not go to this hotel.

we booked this hotel at short notice and at the time of booking was not able to use internet to check out reviews.however all looked good in the brochure amd travel agents decpription seemed very good. With a few days to go untill holiday read bad reports of hotel on numerous sites i contacted travel agents who said they had had no problems at all with this hotel but if we wanted to change hotels it would cost us £50 pp which with a weeks holiday costing nearly £3000 was not prepered to do so off we went.On arrival at the hotel the reception area is very dingy with the reception staff speaking very little english .the rooms we were in are very basic was not in the main hotel and nextdoor to the night club, airconditioning constantly breaking down trying to report these things to reception was a nightmare(you are constantly told to come back later).our rep not much better everyone who arrived with us had complaints whould of liked to sort out these with rep but never saw her again after welcome meeting. the all inclusive package is terrible you do have to pay for a lot.watered down beer ,cola, fanta ,coffee wine and TAP water is included in the AI ,anything else does have to be payed for ,there are no icecreams in the AI .the 2 restaurants you can use during you stay are only avalable on a mon or tue but good luck getting in them ..the food served is very limited and much the same every day with leftover vegetables for breakfast.childrens buffet consited of potatoes some kind of meat stew and mixed vegetables.the restaurant is far too small for the amount of people staying at the hotel .The main pooll of the hotel is not in good condition tiles around the pool are uneven and raised in places (my son tripped several times)the steps in the pool are loose with very sharp edges resulting in a lot of cut legs.the entertainment at the hotel was poor nightime entertainment was mostly in german ,daytime activitys seemed to be aerobics .the beach area is nice but if you get a sun lounger down there you wil be charged as you will in the beach bar.the hotel is a german hotel and is catered for the germans with staff seeming to prefer this the hotel does have about 95% german guests it is no way at all catered for the english tourist.german guests do seem to get priority

Having read the information in the brochure, and thinking Thomson were a trusted Agent, this seemed like a great place for my son and I to go to. As an all inclusive package, it cost a little more than I really wanted to pay, but decided that with food, snacks and drinks included it probably would work out to be cost effective - how wrong can you be??? The "canteen" as we called it was serving poor quality food, with left overs served at breakfast.........., odd in such a climate??? Chips, Pizza & Pasta seemed to be on the buffet every day - not what was expected I have to admit and the queues were horrendous. There was even a fight between the waiters and germans one night, resulting in watermelon being thrown around (almost like being in a carry-on film). The Tunisian Restaurant serving local food was only open for one or two nights and the german tourists seemed to always get preferential treatment for bookings, as was the case in the fish restaurant!! Needlesstosay, we could have gone into them if we wanted to pay extra...... thought this was all inclusive....???? It was a similar situation in the bar - well it was a sort of bar - local alcohol included it said in the brochure - theres only one - booca - and this is not particularly alcoholic so you have to pay extra for all alcoholic drinks (and then if they run out of something - dont expect it to be replaced anytime soon!) Turn to the wine I hear you say, I have put better vinegar on chips, try the lager - watered down........, oh yes, and the water in the chiller units comes out of the taps so be careful about that too! You can get bottled water - be warned though - surprise, surprise you have to PAY extra for that! You also have to pay for ice-cream - even though the rep told us that the childrens ice-cream was included in the package....... oh really???? We had cockroaches in our room - in itself not unexpected in such a climate - but after waiting for the janitor for half an hour I had to go and make a fuss in reception before we were moved, and then only after I had asked to speak to the Thomson Rep. To be completely honest, I could go on, but what I would say is go here at your peril!! On the Friday before we were due to come home, 30+ people were moved to another hotel because it was so bad. Please, please do not waste your money!! The only saving grace was the weather, and quite frankly we could have gone somewhere else for that!!!

Hi, Have just returned from holiday to this hotel and all I can say it was awful!!! The all inclusive package that we were sold was substandard as we ended up having to pay for most things. There is no beach bar unless you are prepared to pay for drinks. The food was very basic, not much choice, and also you had the night befores warmed up vegetables for breakfast. Staff were rude and not very helpful. The entertainment was all done in German or French so none of the English children could join in and you had to pay for some of the entertainment as well.
36 people complianed whilst we were there and eventually we were all moved to a diferent hotel in Skanes. If you have booked with Thomsons be aware that they are pulling out of this hotel in October. We also know from other reps that there has been an ongoing problem with this hotel and it was not just a one off problem.
