“MAHDIA PALCE TUNISIA”

One word WOW, what a hotel, just got back home and we loved it
fantastic setting right on the beach, a huge hotel with entertainment day and evening,
staff so friendly, plenty of choice of food, for breakfast and evening meal on half board,
down sides was it is a long way from the airport to the hotel approx 1hour 40 mins, and there is not much to do outside the hotel, there are shops close by selling numerous items, but if you are looking for alcohol any where close (other than the hotel prices) forget it,
well if there is we couldn't find out where, we went to Mahdia centre 3 times and found 2 little back street units selling booze.
Taxis are cheap, get the price before you get in though, the friday market was an experience but very cheap items, also a trip to El Djem was fantastic note caution beware of the street sellers (scarfs) outside the amphietheatre there, one turned Extremely Nasty with us, nearly spoiling a pleasant trip, if you are easily offended or emotional maybe Tunisia is not the place to go as there is poverty to a large scale and outside of the hotel it is not that tidy or clean mostly, but would we go to the Mahdia palace again? Yes but now we have more knowledge of the pit falls and prices to expect to pay there.

Room Tip: For best view pay the extra for a sea view and ask for a high floor as some of the rooms (even sea...

I have just returned from the Mahdia Palace. This is my third visit to Tunisia and I love it. Previously I have stayed just outside Sousse. The hotel is perfect for anyone wanting a cheap break and happy to spend all their time in the hotel but I would not recommend it if you like to explore the area. Food in the hotel was ample and good. Excellent local dishes which was fantastic and there seemed to be a good choice for those wanting English food. Pool and beach areas very good (although the beach unbearably crowded). I have difficulty understanding how anyone could criticise the hotel. You get what you pay for and this certainly represented good value for money. We don't like to spend all our time in the hotel so were extremely disappointed to find there was nothing outside the hotel. Most of the restaurants and coffee bars seemed to be closed - I understand this is because the majority of the hotels in the area are all inclusive and these businesses haven't been able to survive, which is a real shame. We did find a fantastic beach around 30 minutes walk from the hotel which was virtually deserted; mainly used by locals ... this was amazing. The coastline around Mahdia town itself was such a disappointment. Strewn with rubbish of all types. Such a pity; it could otherwise have been so beautiful. Mahdia is a long distance from other resorts. We enquired about travelling to Sousse on the train but this was 2 hours in either direction in stifling heat and so we decided against it. So, if you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel-based chill-out week, I would highly recommend it.

just got back from mahida and it was an absolute chill. Hotel amazing looked very cruise like inside with sweeping staircase. Staff very intentive and would always remember what you drank etc. Food ok good choice but stay clear of dining room until 7.30pm as its very busy. Rooms good standard, choose high floor and sea view as that is stunning and rooms kept cleaned daily. Gardens and hotel very clean. You walk straight from pool area to beach and sun beds and we always managed to find spare ones. Take a walk to your right uptowards mahida on the beach and youll find a lovely beach bar with blue and white posts outside and a small kiosk, we stayed for hours there drinking cappacino soaking up the sun. 5 diner will get you a taxi to mahida but there is not a lot there, few local cafes and bars and not touristy at all. If you go with thomas cook take the medina ramble and philip the rep who actually lives in tunisia for 15yrs will give you morning to remeber, mosqu, market and his knowledge well worth 10 diner each about £4. If your looking for a hustle and bustle this not place for you as hotel in october busy but not manic and all entertainment you make yr self in one of the 3 bars. 24hr cafe and room service also excellent but best bit is weather it topped 38' last week september!!!!!! me and hubby defo go back. No groups of lads etc but families with young children catered for, honeymooners, young couples, all ages were there but the british were in the minority. You will love it

Room Tip: high floor sea view side views are wasteland and golf course

Have just returned from holiday and thought that the hotel was the best yet in a standard package. The hotel was extremely well appointed, all the rooms being spacious and with excellent airconditioning (very much needed). The grounds were well maintained and the pools, though not tried, looked very tempting. Staff were very efficient and friendly, almost all speaking English to a good (in job context) standard ; nothing was ever too much trouble. This extended to the staff employed on the beautiful beach. The food was extremely varied, but not for those wanting chips with every meal, and ample. Only two caveats : take a teaspoon (in very short supply in the dining-room) and avoid the "cocktails", which did not match the descriptions on the "menu". We went out of season, to avoid children, and enjoyed a very relaxing stay. Cannot wait to return !

Room Tip: Have a room overlooking the pool and sea.

Not a 5 start hotel ! I've previously read that in the muslim countries the "5 star hotel" notion is different form the one in Europe, but the differences were bothersome. Good price (compared to Europe, very good) - all inclusive - but there was a catch ... Women should not go alone.

I liked :
- the food (especially the desserts) : there was a lot of good food (of all types);
- beach, sea and the pool : clean pool (but with lots of chlorine), soft sand on the beach and clean sea water (very salty);
I hated :
- staff service : with all-inclusive the treatment was bad (concierge rude and trying to obtain money by giving dirty and low quality rooms, waiters ignoring you, bartenders not knowing what drinks were included in the package);
- room : the first room was on the base level (-2) with no view, no carpet on the floor, sticky substance on the table, drain not working on the bath, dirty beds) ... after talking to the concierge the 2nd day (on the first we were told to play extra 10 euro / day to change room) and bribing him with 10 euro the room was much better (far from 5 stars, but good).
Not tested :
- SPA;
- indoor pool;
- activities;

Room Tip: Bribe the concierge. Don't let women talk to them - they are rude to them. Exchange money at t...

This is a very nice hotel, and the rooms are spcious and most have a good view. The lobby has a certain elegance, although the conversational seating looks a bit like an airport lobby, with the beautiful leather couches and chairs all lined up in rows. It would be nice to see them in clusters instead to encourage conversation. The pool is very nice, and the beach is clean and wide. There are no shops within an easy walk, so unless you have a car you will spend money on taxis. The distance from the airport is a bit long. The food was okay, but there is a lot of "recycling" of yesterday's food, and the variety doesn't change as much as one would like.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday and we had a fantastic time. The hotel's location is excellent - right next to the sandy beach & the sea was clear and warm. The swimming pool was perfect and my 2 kids aged 7 & 10 spent most of their time there. Food was good, plenty of choice but my only critiicism is that sometimes there didn't seem to be enough staff on duty and we were sometimes waiting for plates. The staff however were all friendly and very attentive. The animation team were great, there were activities to do if you wanted and the team always took the time to come and have a chat and try to get you involved. Mahdia is quieter resort and there isn't much to do outside of the hotel grounds, however we found it a bit too hot and were just too comfortable around the hotel to venture out too much anyway. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: We were in 3407 which was a very large family room overlooking the golf course and we could also see...
