Just came back from spending a week here,it was the best holiday we have had, hotel was really clean, all staff friendly, animation team were so friendly funny and made our holiday. The food isn't as bad as people say, snacks are available between meal times and you don't have to pay for them,we are definitely coming back next year as we didn't want to leave, and not once did we hear anyone moan about the hotel

Firstly, we want to give an honest review to help others as when we read Trip Advisors negative reviews we thought that it was just negative people but I wish we had not booked this resort. We just arrived home last night & we have all lost so much weight due to the food being terrible. We are not fussy eaters at all but there is no variety of quality food and when you did eat their food we were on the toilet constantly. They served a variety of meats but some days we couldn't identify what they were but were always labelled beef, even though one day we were eating some form of liver! They served Birds tongue Soup and Calf's Liver on more than two of the days and what they claimed as Pork was some black meat? Our daughter refused to eat anything and she was fine, she just lived off watermelon and lots of Pringles bought from the shop. We were told by five of the staff members that even they agreed the food was terrible and it wasn't Tunisian food just leftovers cooked in different ways. We were that hungry that we had a member of staff travel an hour to his favourite take away to bring us sandwiches which were lovely but this is so bad when you have paid thousands of pounds for an all inclusive holiday! Some of the staff were pleasant, their English is very poor but you can get around this but there are one or two male staff that are rude. The market was great on the Monday around the pool but the men are terrible, they grab hold of you and are very demanding trying to force you to buy their products, it really scared our kids. There was a young life guard that made our kids get out of the pool at 6.15pm bearing in mind it closed at 8pm & was very nasty when telling them to get out, then 10 minutes later he let 5 Tunisian kids in the pool?! The hotel is spotless, rooms spacious & air conditioning great. The cleaning ladies are so lovely and do a fab job. It is extremely hot but we really enjoyed the sunshine and our kids were in the pool a majority of the time and again this is very clean. The drinks are hit & miss, some days the beer and pop was fizzy and nice other days it was flat. You only get treated well by the bar staff and waiters if you tip them constantly. We had to check the kids drinks as twice we ordered orange and it had vodka in & when we told them it was for an 11 yr old they said "oh well she will sleep?!!!" The beach is ok but we didn't go there much as we tended to stay by the pool. My husband had to get up at 6am every morning to make sure we could get sun loungers as other nationalities fought for them. The animation team are so friendly, they make the resort so much better. Our kids loved the pool party which went on until after 11pm. All in all we were glad to get on the plane to go home and had we have not met a lovely couple and their two daughters as well as lots of other British, families that said the same as us about the food the trip would have been even worse. We have traveled all over the world and this was undoubtedly the worst resort we have been to. We told this to the Thomas Cook Rep who we traveled with and she even said that she was having a meeting with the Hotel Manager regarding the food situation so it is clearly an issue and on the coach coming home we spoke to people from other resorts and they said the food is awful. Think twice before booking.

Room Tip: We paid an extra £100 for Sea views for two rooms and wished we hadn't bothered as some friends...

Dear Sarah G,

First of all, thank you for your comments! For sure, to read negative comments it is not a pleasure for us, but in this way we know where we have to make improvements.
Although, we have to say, the food is really a question of taste. We have hundreds of guests every week and does not matter how hard we try, there will be still a few which don't likes our meals. Please, believe us, we do our best to can serve our guests, we prepare every day fresh dishes, we have every day different, at least 2-3 types of meat. In the same time we know, it's just not possible to cook something what everyone likes. But we never give up, we keep improving, we keep doing trainings for the whole kitchen staff and we are sure, our guests appreciate this.
As you can see from the other guests comments, are a lot of who likes our food and a few ones who not. We do sometimes even more than is physically possible, but unfortunately food will always be a question of taste. But, at least our meal are always freshly cooked and we control permanently the quality of the food. As you got food from outside of the hotel, we could not control the quality of this and the risk to get an illness because of the food is high. As you know, the weather is hot and in really short time the food can became dangerous for you. Because we really care of the health of our guests, to avoid any illness in the future could you write us please who brought you food from outside? Would help us a lot to protect our guests in the future!
Thank you once more for your comment, in advance for your cooperation and wish you a nice summer!

We came back from Skanes Serail on Monday Morning after spending 2 weeks there. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist even though it was quite late and we're told where we could get snacks while someone took our bags to our room. When we went up to our room, though, we were a little disappointed as it wasn't the modern style rooms shown in the brochures and on the website, but it was clean and we had a lovely view over the pool and sea. We were told the hotel was full so we couldn't change rooms.
The pool area is fabulous, the kids loved it and we didn't struggle to get a sunbed. If you tip the guy around the pool he will get you mattresses too!
The only disappointing thing was the all inclusive. The food in the restaurants was nice, the buffet was as you expect on all inclusive but there was also the Tunisian, Italian (lovely) and the beach restaurant. The beach restaurant (called Tex Mex but not all that Tex!) was lovely but a 4 course meal at lunchtime was too heavy for us and they don't serve food in the evenings there unless you buy it! Also they had the evening entertainment at this bar one night and we were told we had to buy drinks at the bar as it wasn't all inclusive. To get the all inclusive we had to walk back up to the other bar in the hotel, then missing the entertainment.
The other nights, entertainment was in the show area which hasn't got a bar, again they bring some drinks in but you have to buy them or go elsewhere for the all inclusive.
During the day, there are hardly any snacks available around the pool between meals, no ice cream for kids except at lunch and dinner (again, unless you buy it from the shop) and at the pool bar they had crepes and doughnuts.... For sale. Now I wouldn't call this all inclusive, I would call this not-quite-all-inclusive!
Other than this, we had a lovely holiday, lovely weather, lovely pool. Animation team were fantastic, my kids haven't stopped pretending they are Jo and Nina since we got home! They made the holiday so much fun!
I would definitely come back to Tunisia but I think the hotel needs to make a few amendments.

Room Tip: It seems half the hotel has been updated and the other half is still dated so ask for a modern room!

Dear NeliR

Thank you for your comments!
Although, we have to say, we are really sorry you did not find the place where you could eat in the afternoon. Just as you could see from the previous comments, we offer our guests all inclusive snacks every afternoon, pizza and cookies and also fresh fruit juice in the vitamin bar.
As you wrote, not everything is in "all inclusive" included. Indeed. We inform all our guest on informational material about opening times of the restaurant, about what is all inclusive and what not. There are certainly ours and places when and where the all inclusive is not available but the we do inform our guests about.
Regading ice cream, it is just as you wrote. At lunch and dinner you can eat as much ice cream as you want. Taking in consideration that between the end of the lunch and beginning of the dinner are only 4 hours (14:30 - 18:30), and even in this short time period we serve all inclusive snacks, fresh fruit juice and the usually soft drinks, based on the reactions of our guests, they are satisfied with this system. Of course, we take in consideration your comments as well, as for us the priority no. one are the satisfied guests.
Thank you for your comments, wish you a lovely summer and hope you will visit us again. We are sure, you will notice the positive changes. We are waiting for you!

Just got back from a very relaxing week here. Lovely, clean hotel with a good choice of food. It pays to tip the bar staff as you get great service and great drinks. All the staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. Weather was amazing, pool lovely, beach lovely. Can't say anything negative except the pizza at the Italian restaurant was probably the worst pizza I've ever had!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments!
We are happy to know you were satisfied with the Smartline Skanes Serail. Regarding pizza, we are sure the cook is doing his best every time when he is preparing a pizza. In the same time, we have to admit, that some of the row materials used in the kitchen are different from the food used in Europe. At the selection of our food dealers we select that ones which are offering food closer to the European tastes, but sometimes it's just not possible to find from all the same as it is used in EU.
Hope to see you again in our resort and we will do the best to can offer you instead of the worst, the best pizza you ever eat.

We have just arrived home from a week away. Once we got out of the airport a man grabbed the suitcases from the men, this was worrying but realised he was a luggage handler, once we got to the coach he kept shouting money but we only had English and didn't want to give him notes, he would not let us get away with not giving him money, I gave him £1 as we didn't feel he deserved any more because of us telling him no we didn't need him to help us with suitcases and because of his rudeness, because we didn't give him anymore he took out one of our suitcases. Obviously this has nothing to do with the hotel but does kind of make you feel worried. We arrived at the hotel, got to our rooms and the room was very clean and the bed was comfy. It was handy to have phones in our rooms so we could contact our friends. Breakfast wasn't great but that's Tunisian kind of food, lunch and tea was much better. We didn't like the fact signs said no reserving sun beds but every one had towels on them even though there was no one laying on them. We didn't want to be waking up a 5am so ended up just laying on the grass. The animation entertainers came and introduced themselves to us and we're very friendly! Jo came to see us everyday and helped us with places to go and what the prices of the taxis should be as we were very ripped off by one! They just want your money! Drinks were not great, in the photos on the website the cocktails look lovely but they were just in tiny cups as was the beer, coke and fanta. They didn't taste great so we ended up purchasing cans and bottles of water. One of us had a birthday and with the help of Jo we were given a birthday cake and candles. Reception staff weren't very friendly and not very helpful. Our air conditioning broke and they just took the bit of paper and said nothing, this was not fixed! We didn't know where the evening shows were held and the lady receptionist just pointed and said "bar." If only they were as friendly as the animation team and the cleaners! Also we weren't sure about what time our transfer was at the end of the holiday and they just pointed and said book, we just waited till we found some English people on the last day with suitcases. The beach was great, we went on the jet skis everyday and the red sofa was the best! Just before we got on the coach to go home all of the animation team came and said there goodbyes to everybody that was leaving and waved us all off. I feel if it wasn't for the team in yellow we wouldn't have had such a great time. (:

Room Tip: We were told by people we met the rooms on floor 1 we're not refurbished and were not very nice.

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Skanes Serail and I have to say that after reading some of the negatives comments on this site, I don't know what hotel these people have visited.

Location: - The hotel is situated in a remote area about 5 miles from the nearest towns but please don't be put off by that, there is a train station and bus stop outside the hotel and it costs less than £1 to get into the centre of both Sousse or Monastir. If you don't fancy public transport a taxi from the hotel will cost approximately £4 for up to 4 people, after 9pm the prices rise by 50% but is still very cheap.

Hotel: - The hotel is modern and spotlessly clean, the rooms are spacious and have the most comfortable beds I have experienced in a hotel for a long time!
The rooms are cleaned everyday with fresh towels and bedding changed twice per week. The bathrooms are a bit dated but still clean with a powerful and hot shower.
The communal areas of the hotel are also spotlessly clean with an army of cleaners working around the clock.
There is a large swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds and grassed areas to sunbathe and relax.
The hotel has one large communal restaurant and three speciality restaurants (Tunisian, Italian and Tex Mex (Lunch only)) which you can visit all inclusive, once each during your visit.
The Food is plentiful and tasty, breakfast has a variety of cereals, cold meats, cheeses, yogurts etc. There is also freshly made omelettes, fried and boiled eggs, sausages etc etc. Don't come expecting a 'Full English' as it won't happen but there is more than enough food.
Lunch and Dinner in the main restaurant again has numerous meat and fish dishes and a variety of vegetarian, pasta dishes and fresh salads and desserts. There is also chips served each day if you want them.
Free Pizza is served daily at the pool side from about 3-5pm and for a small charge (about 50p) you can buy freshly cooked donuts and crepes from the pool bar.
The speciality restaurants are well worth a visit, although it is advisable to book early as they are popular. The Tunisian restaurant was the surprise for me and I can recommend the chicken dish!!
The drinks on offer from 10 am to 11pm include soft drinks, beer and local sprits and cocktails. All are perfectly acceptable. The first few days I was there I have to say the bar staff poured the drinks into empty bottles before pouring them. This resulted in them being warm and flat... I am pleased to say they have now stopped this. Just on the drinks, a lot of people complain that they are served in plastic beakers...this is a health and safety measure so that broken glass isn't strewn around the pool area. If you are staying indoors the staff will happily give you a proper glass.
The Staff at the hotel are incredibly hard working and always have a smile on their face. Nothing is too much and they are only to happy to help. Wages in Tunisia are very low, so although no one is looking for it a small tip is always welcome.
Lastly the Animation Team....these guys are working from first thing in the morning until the last thing at night. Through out the day they do a variety of games and sports at the pool and on the beach and each night they put on a variety of shows. What really struck us though is that even during their down time they would spend time talking to guests and showing a genuine interest in them. They took time to remember your name and always had a smile on their faces. These guys, Dido, DJ Happy (Said), Djo, Coucou, Salah and Nina (hope I have them all correct) really made the holiday.....THANKS!!!!

Room Tip: Corner suites are about three times the size of a standard room.

Dear Guest,

First of all, thank you for taking the time to write us. And really, thank you for appreciating the beakers what we use around the pool. Some of our guests unfortunately don't understand why the safety reasons are so important for us and why we use the beakers outside.
Thank you for your lovely comments, thank you for appreciating what we do for our guests! Wish you a nice summer and really hope to see you soon again in our resort.

me and my girlfriend have recently only just came back from skanes serial and what can I say I was quite worried about going after reading some of the bad reviews but you just need to ignore them tbh.
first of all its spectacularly clean. the staff are excellent .They cant do enough for you my only advice is show them a bit of appreciation and give them a couple of dinar its around 80p. I did think one of the girls on reception was rude a couple of times when I was in the middle of talking to her she just turned around or walked off, i cant remember what her name was but youll know who im talking about if i just say keep an eye out for eyebrows, but anyway that's not important as its a lovely relaxing place,
it is in the middle of nowhere if you are wanting to leave the complex you will have to get a taxi somewhere or do the excursions from your rep, we did the African dream which was a really good day out, i would recommend doing this one above all.
Our rooms where cleaned daily about midday every day, air con worked great to be honest in the room, bed was very comfortable
the food its pretty basic but its nice, if you are willing to try different food you'll be in your element as im not really open to trying new food there was still enough choice for me, only breakfast that i struggled because they don't leave the omelette on for long enough even when you tell them. And the only other cooked option is pancakes which are ok for the first day but get sickly if your eating them every morning all week!
The pool is lovely and you will see the life guard going round cleaning the sides with a cloth.
One morning there is like a mini markets stalls that come to the hotel if you don't like to haggle i would avoid as there is no set price i enjoy it so i got a couple of bargains but some of the fellas are quite pushy and seem to get annoyed if your not interested, like when i bought from one stall the fella from the spice stall came over and like held my hand going over then when i said i wasn't interested seem to get annoyed, but they will try and get you to go in even if you walked passed,
there is wifi in the hotel but only in reception lobby you can ask for a card if you want at reception desk
The beach is lovely as well i have seen people moan about the seaweed but its cleaned every morning and they cant help the fact that the tide bring it in, if you go in about 4 foot it clears, there also are water sports available jet skis banana boats and the parachute attached to a boat! there all cheap enough like averaging about 40 dinar which is about £12 in English money!
there is 3 shops in the lobby of reception there is like a 1 shop which does souvenirs another shop does purses/wallets and bags etc and then there is a shop which does crisps bits of munchies. The fella who works 9 - 3 on the souvenirs is lovely make sure you speak to him he speaks quite good English..
so overall we had a fantastic holiday.
