“Fantastic Hotel, excellent food and service with a smile.”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We are a couple on the cusp of 40yrs old with no kids on this Holiday.
We most definitely landed on our feet with this holiday.
From arrival the staff were efficient and friendly. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The hotel facilities are all you could ask for. For a largish hotel the staff still look after you as individuals. The food is excellent quality with fantastic variety. This coupled with excellent service produces a great dinning experience. The restaurant has themed evenings and provides a great atmosphere. The bars are well stocked and service here too is first class.
The hotel spa centre is well worth a visit and great value.
The excursions on offer are both great value and well run.
The holiday reps Donna and Steph are fantastic in their approach and knowledge, first class ladies.
The only negative we have is the jellyfish in the sea which is beyond anyone's control.
Overall we would thoroughly recommend this hotel for couples and families alike.

Me and my friend, both young females ages 23&24 stayed at the hotel between aug 10th and 17th. We arrived at the hotel around 12.30pm after having the most awful experience at the airport. Only 2 people on passport control and almost 3-4 flights of people arrived at same time, took us about 2 and half hours to get passed airport control.

The Hotel: on arrival we were greeted with a non-alcoholic cocktail which was nice, we were then asked to sign a form and put our details in then we went to our room on first floor. Our room was spotless. Beautiful orange colouring, LCD tv on wall, aircon and our view of the Tennis courts which we didn't mind.

Restaurant: on the first day we arrive the lunch was awful. But the second day the food was great for a 3*** hotel. Breakfast they had cereal, toast. Fruit, and you could have an omelette made. For lunch and dinner they would have a variety of meats, rice, potatoes, salad and desserts. There was also a beach bar which served food at lunch, things like chips and burgers and salad. Very tasty!! We had the same waiter for breakfast and lunch who had blue eyes but unsure of his name and we had a man called Jamal for our evening meal. Both this men worked exceptionally hard, put 110% into their work, they would always have out drinks on the table and top up before we've finished and even put flowers on our table! Both these men made us and other feel so special. We would always tip them as they deserved it! And 5 TD worked out about £2. So we didn't give a lot but they were so thankful for the tip. You will be very lucky if you have Jamal as your waiter. Great man!

Drinks: loads of soft drinks, the fanta was lovely! Different from ours and better. Wine was okay and there was a cocktail man who made different cocktails each night, I think his man was maz and he was absolutely brilliant!!!

Pool/beach: beach area was Lovley and they played music low throughout the day, commercial music so something everyone knew. Plenty of sun chairs but get up early I would say before 9am and you will defo get one. The beach, omg we spent most of our time there! Always got a sunbed, and there is a bar to get drinks from on the beach. Security men on beach to get rid of lucky lucky men if they get too annoying. we loved the sea. Waters clear. Could see the fish near out feet and it was nice and warm. They did warn us about jelly fish but we swam out far every day and never got stung, lucky I guess.

Nightlife/entertainment: animation team wasn't very good but I didn't mind but I did feel sorry for families as it was quiet boring for kids

Pirate ship: There was a guy called Ali baba who works at hotel and does the excursions. We went on pirate ship for around £13-15 and it was brilliant! Went on the ship for 3 hours, had a lovely meal. Chicken, tuna steak. Chips, salad, rice and plenty of fizzy drinks! The entertainment on the ship was faultless. 10/10. They included everyone and we saw some dolphins and everyone had the opportunity to jump from the ship into the water! Great experience. You should defo go on this excursion if you go! Book now

Thomson excursions: El djem colosseum. Brilliant!!! Went early in the morning around 7.20am and spent an hour there. Well worth the visit and the tour guide man was brilliant.
Zulu night/friguia park: this is a MUST do. Cost around £89TD and we were collected at 12.20 and arrived bk at hotel around 9pm. We spent 3 hours in the zoo. We got to ride a camel for around 3TD 90p bargain!!! And we got to feed a giraffe and elephant! We couldn't wipe the smiles off our face when we fed the elephants! you have to tip to feed the animals. Find the right worker and he will give you private tour. The Zulu night we went into tent and had a 4 course meal with plenty of drinks and entertainment was brilliant. It was nice to see African and Tunisian cultural through their music and dancing.

Overall we both enjoyed this holiday and were both sad to leave. We didn't get harassed much by men, we could ignore it but if you're attractive men will look at you where ever you go, Tunisia or in England. and we went shopping and you do get people ask you to come into their shop. Just say no and walk away. Shop in the yasnine centre as it has set prices. Very good for gifts.

We would recommend this holiday. Weather went up to 44 degrees when we went. Lovely staff. Beach and hotel.

There are some bad reviews about this hotel and all I can say is if you don't like culture don't come , this is Tunisia one of the most friendliest kind places . This hotel has so much to offer , waiters and bar stall very good . The food was the best I have tasted around the world . Fizedj was very professional and made our stay very welcoming when it came to eating and drinking . He always made sure my family was ok . I love Tunisia and this hotel was a pleasure to stay in . I will be back .,... Soon ! And the spa is a must ! Excellent !

The waiters and bar men completely go out their way to make you feel welcome in this hotel, can't fault nothing at all! Especially a man named Fredj he welcomes our party and other party's every night into the restaurant and 100% give us his full attention, if we need anything he will have it sent to us in no time, all bar men fully understand everything you request and there is no problems with the bar/restaurant service in this hotel!

Me and my boyfriend both 20, stayed at hotel tropicana for 2 weeks (July 30th- August 13th).

When we first arrived at the airport the passport control guy was very rude to us and was slapping the desk and telling us to hurry up whilst he was still holding our passports, which was weird. Then as we were talking to our rep at the airport to see which bus we needed to get on a porter just literally grabbed our suitcases and started walking away with them!! Then led me to a desk where I could change my currency, then he carried on walking off with our suitcases with my boyfriend chasing him then he made me tip him as he was lurking over my shoulder as I was putting my money away!! Feeling teasy we got on our coach and headed to our hotel which was about an hour transfer.

When we arrived at the hotel everyone got welcome drinks apart from us!! We got given this form on the coach to fill out for the hotel but I had no pen so had to do it at the hotel upon arrival, the receptionist lady was very rude and seemed annoyed that we hadn't filled it out!! Then we finally got our room key and we're given breif directions as to where our room was, no one actually showed us!! So after walking around the hotel for half an hour, as the room number signs were crap we had to carry our cases up three flights of stairs as there were no lifts to finally get to our room. Now we were really teasy!! I had booked a double room but we had a twin room, after the fuss we had trying to find our room we really couldn't be bothered to say anything!

The room was nice and basic, beds were a little hard, but comfortable enough. We had a nice view overlooking the pool and sea which was lovely. The sheets weren't changed everyday as mine had a massive hole in it but was just flipped over and made up to look all nice and clean! Also the maids just do what they want! She would hammer on the door at 7 o'clock and come in exclaiming "towels!" even though we had the do not disturb sign on! She would also just appear sometimes, me and my boyfriend were sat on the balcony one afternoon and she just wondered in and was like "oh hello!". We just found this funny though.

The pool was nice, the sunbeds around it were always so busy! People would put there towels out at 6 which was very annoying! The pool bar was nice the cups were very little which was annoying as it was so hot, all you would want was a big cup of juice to rehydrate yourself!! The snack bar was awesome the staff there were outstanding we tipped them a good few times as soon as they saw us they would make us cocktails and bring them over! The chef Sem, got really friendly with my boyfriend and would make him his own pizza every lunch time which was lovely! The food there consisted of pizza, chicken, chips, paninis, fruit and cakes.

The food hall or restaurant, was always very busy. Long queues for food and a few rude people who just push in. The food however was nice, they cooked up nice steaks and fresh fish which was all very yummy. In the morning there was a good choice of what to have for breakfast, pancakes were our favourite! The waiters were nice one was absolutely brilliant he was called zien! He always kept our wine glasses full!!

The beach was lovely and the sea was so warm although it was riddled with jellyfish! The water sports looked really fun.

We went on a few trips with thompson but they weren't that good, such as the sailaway and shop, camel ride and the zoo. The medina was so busy and the shop assistants would not leave you alone! The camel ride was strange, you had to buy these headdresses and they make you buy the photos they take of you, as the guy literally took my money from my hand! The zoo was good although it took over 2 hours to get there! Tunisia itself is basically just a waste land full of litter and unfinished buildings with a few donkeys and dogs wondering around, so it's not too nice outside the hotel.

There are a good few activities to do at the hotel such as crazy golf and tennis which we done a few times which was fun. It was about 40 degrees everyday so very hot, so we spent the majority of the time in the pool.

Overall it was a really good holiday the hotel was nice but average, however the majority of the staff were excellent and really made our stay fantastic!

We were one week in hotel tropicana. Service was very good, especially the photo shooting. Very nice and competitive people (Hassen and nizar ) competitive which does a lot of good pictures for a fair price. Would do it again.
