Hotel was ok but food and entertainment was all to suit the Polish and Russian guests, never seen such bad manners in all my life, I know thats not the hotels fault but the food was awful, thank goodness for chips and pizza. The entertainment the second week improved, especially when Fifi and the rest of the team took over, never going back to Tunisia again, was fed up with staff scrounging cigarettes and food and looking for tips constantly.

We had a nice time here only spoilt by the fact that we bought some jewellery from a little stall in the hotel reception only to find out when we got home that it wasn't real gold and we had been ripped off for £300 so please if you visit this hotel please please do not buy any jewellery from this man

I had read mixed reviews about this hotel and as always take things with a pinch of salt as I have visited many places with bad reviews and found things to be OK or better than OK when I visited.

The entrance and reception area are lovely (I spent many an afternoon in the shade in the grand entrance feeling like I was in African grandeur) and then check in process was quick and efficient. We were told a porter would take us to the room which was good as it was a long way and late at night but this required tipping and the lady in front of us did not want shown to her room and it was forced upon her.
The room was basic to say the least, the shower in the bathroom was broken and cleaning was sporadic (although as someone has said before tipping the maid made a difference. The air conditioning was mild even though we turned it to maximum and I do not think that it would be effective a all in August.

The pool area was very busy and certainly lots of people were reserving sunbeds (sometimes even if they did not use them which I thought was rude). There were a few older children there but not much rowdy behaviour family freindly but not relaxing in the least.

The beach is right next to the hotel and plenty of sun beds there and quieter too. Just mind the jellyfish in the sea. They sting but it is like a small nip according to my other half.

Lots of people have commented about the food. Bear in mind this is an African country trying to cater for large amounts of differing tastes and they probably do rather well. There are many options available and I never felt that there was nothing that I liked and there was always something for the kids (although I don't class something for the kids as chicken nuggets and chips etc). Always a fresh made option and a Tunisian option. One word of caution though. You are told not to drink the water but nothing about eating fresh salads. You do need to avoid any foods that could be washed in tap water to avoid stomach upset (but you expect that from a three star, if it was a five star then I might expect to eat fresh raw veg).

One thing that a few travellers seemed to have difficulty with was the idea that tipping is normal and expected in Tunisia. This is not the same as the all inclusive resort in Europe. The people that work at the hotel take home around £4 per day, a 2Dinar tip (around 80p) makes a big difference to them and the traveller. If you tip your trip will be much more pleasant, I suspect that many people who found that not to be the case might not have tipped too well.

Overall I don't think I would go here again, not that I found it unpleasant, just was nothing special.

Room Tip: All rooms have some noise some nights.

Arrived at the Hotel main reception was lovely.
completely different from the rooms which when allocated was filthy had it cleaned. Still not good. The pictures on the web site are definitely
not in any shape of form any where near a true reflection of the rooms.
Ours was very unkempt, dirty, bath stained toilet had seen better days if placed on skip.
air conditioning broken and bit to ribbons by mosses.
Took 3 days for staff to change our room.
All rooms we were shown were of a very basic standard.
felt dirtier when had a shower.
Cleaner was amazing but tipping helped to get room to a cleanish state.
pool area ok.
hotel reception area very clean but always smelt of sewage.
Complained and all kept saying come back 10 AM tomorrow.
when changed rooms husband 6foot 3 and had 2 cot beds so complained promised to change them, which after 2 days eventually they did.
We did not book with a rep but Thomas Cook rep came along when I complained and after stated it is a 3 star Hotel what do you expect.
Advised her that expected to have rooms that we were able to shower and feel clean at least.
Could not say under any circumstances that this was a 3 star.
have stayed in hotels all over the world.
This is the worst by far also was recommend hotel on web site. So would expect at least rooms were habitable.
drinks were watered down to the max so bring your own.
Meal times were like being in a Zoo food not to bad but god like feeding time at the Zoo. People piling there plates barging pushing.
Tip is to wait until maddening crowd gone. Also tip waiters then very helpful. Infact tipping all staff is well worth it.
Water sports rip off and very unprofessional even though they say constantly we are professionals.
Must say a lot of the staff were lovely although particular night staff very rude.
There is nothing much to do outside the hotel few shops and a great bar savant just across the road.with lovely staff
Overall the stay at Houda will be remembered but for all the wrong reasons.
The manager did state that the Hotel was 35 years old and no work done to the rooms in a very long time. At least he was honest.
So hopefully this will give some insight to the type of place it really is.
only can say from our own experience.
although did speak to many other guests who were of the same opinion.
say away.

Room Tip: As far as I know from the rooms we were shown and other guests anger there were no good rooms.

we stayed here last year and it was fantastic.so we thought you know what your getting so we came back this year.arrived 30th June on arrival place looked the same.we booked a limited sea view room which looked clean the view was quite good. By day 3 we were feeling let down we had a cockcroach in our room we went down to reception to complain and the chap just laughed and said they won't hurt you so I insisted it's sorted out.he called someone and told us 5 minutes so we sat outside for 30 minutes went back to our room and it was still there so I killed it 2 hours later a bloke comes to our room sprays 4 corners of the room and under the sink in the bathroom and left. We woke up the next morning to find another 2 in our room.we killed them and complained more rude staff at reception. We went back to our room at around 6 PM only the beds have been made(no sheets changed at all) and the dead cockcroach were still on the floor where I killed them in the morning. Cut it all short cockcroach in the dining room the lobby and outside during evening entertainment we booked 2 weeks here. We had brought new tickets and left by the end of the week.we were told by a member of staff not to complain because they won't help you.were covered in bed bug bites from head to toe.the animation were great as are the waiters the food and the cockcroach was a big let down. We will never return to this hotel again.we don't usually complain about anything but cockcroach crawling all over the place is absolutely disgusting. Loads of pics of these thing as well.

Hi. We stayed in June and overall had a great time.
We went with Thomas Cook and landed at Monastir 930am Saturday morning. A simple 5 minute transfer to the hotel was great. First impressions were good. Now we knew check in was 2pm and would have to wait. We were given our wristbands, were allowed food and drinks and allocated a room number and told to keep checking the board. As the day progressed we watched several coaches arrive before 2pm and people immediately given a room key. At 2pm we enquired about our room and was told it wasn't ready yet. By 3pm the wife was exhausted and still no room despite 100+ people arriving and getting their room straight away. Just before 4pm we were given the keys and went to our room. It was a ground floor twin room with a bunkbed squeezed in. The doors to the outside would not lock and a security guard was stood outside. Not happy with this we returned to reception and asked for a another room and immediately got one! Why we had to wait around all day was beyond us.
Restaurant- You have to reserve a table for your entire stay. This you would think simple but twice had the embarrassing situation of people claiming it was their table and waiters and managers arguing whilst we tried to eat. Once sorted out we had a lovely waiter who once tipped would fetch your drinks.
Food- the servery is too small for the initial rush to fill plates and you end up being bumped around and nearly fighting for the tongs! We were able to make a meal each day but it's not great food. The a la cartes were good and it was nice to not have the hustle of the food hall but make sure you book at the start of the holiday as it fills quickly.

The grounds are lovely and the staff work hard to keep it clean and tidy. The management treat them like dirt so share a smile with them.
Rooms- clean but showing signs of wear and tear. Our cleaner came everyday and made the bed. The beds are very hard. If you see your cleaner ask if she wants some food as they are often hungry and do not get a break so fetch them some pizza from the snack bar to eat in your room.
Pool - the main pool is lovely and big, to get a sunbed you have to get up very early and put a towel down. It's get busy around the pool and the music is a bit much at times but we still enjoyed lazing by the pool. The slide pool is away from the main pool and is much easier to get a sunbed any time of day and we enjoyed it here more.
Beach- lovely, sea is warm. Around the pool and beach you get a lot of people selling day trips/activities but they are funny and not too pushy and will take no for an answer so just be polite.
Bar- I never found the queues excessive. The beer is ok. The 'why not' guy is great fun.

The one thing that upset me the most was the poor management and the way they treat the staff. On several occasions I saw the entertainment manager shouting aggressively at his staff even though they work really hard ALL day! The reception manager does not have clue how to arrange a system to allocate rooms in a sensible order. Restaurant managers belittle the waiters and one cleaner I saw being shouted at by a manager for asking a question. Really quite upsetting to see.

On reflection we had a lovely time. Remember it's a 3 star and talking to people who've stayed elsewhere locally if you want really good food you need to go 4 star.

Thanks to all the lovely staff who work so hard to make your trip enjoyable despite the rude, aggressive and bullying management.

Hotel is barely a 3 star. Pool is very nice and great temperature . Not the normal shock when you dip in the water and open the gate and step onto the beach which is nice. The rooms are very basic and a bit old fashioned but liveable. There were queues for food and drinks but only to be expected with such a large hotel complex. Went on an organised trip to sousse to do some shopping but should have gone by taxi about 10 dinar each way. Cost me £13 each. Medina in sousse great shopping but not if you dont like to haggle . Better go woth few of you . Seems to be safety in numbers. The hotel food was continental but I enjoy a challenge althoughy wife struggled. Great for kids around the pool with music and activities all day. Sun beds have to put your towel dpwn early because they go quickly. In the end I got up at 5 o clock then went back to bed
