“Nice relaxing holiday destination”
Reviewed 24 August 2009

I got back from my holiday about a week ago. Our Stay at the Miramar was a pleasant experience. The hotel claims to be a four star but is a little old looking espicially the bedrooms. The bedrooms could do with modernising a little. The receptionists were very helpful. We booked two excursions through a chap called adnane who works at the hotel and one through Thomas Cook. One was the camal caravan and the other was Quad Biking. The camel caravan was ok but on a personal note, its very uncomfortable sitting on a camel. The Quad Biking was brilliant. The tour lasts for an hour or so and is well worth the money, one thing that you have to watch out for is some cactus plants through the middle section of the tour. The Thomas Cook tour to EL Jem and Kairoun were an experience. El Jem was used in the Gladiator movie. However you do get hassled a lot around the El Jem area to buy things. Thats one of the down sides to Tunisia.

In the hotel the entartainment team were excellent. They really do work hard in setting up day and night activities. There is a chap called jeehad who i fondly remember. However the other men in the team do give more attention to women then men but you kind of get used to that in parts of Tunisia. The food in the evening was top quality. They do make slight changes to the food option each day. The breakfast was fine but could do with improving a little, some beans or hash browns wouldnt go a miss. The Thomas cook assistant was very helpful but she is now leaving the company which is a shame as her knowledge of the area was vast.

The hospitality of most of the workers was fantastic and they really make you feel welcome. I befriended someone called Ali from the kitchen area and he was a credit to the hotel as he really made me feel at home.

Skanes is a quiet resort. It costs around a fiver to get to Sousse via taxi or 50p on the bus(i wouldnt recomend the bus through peak times)There is a shopping area opposite the hotel which views Sky Sports and a ATM down the road. The facilities at the hotel are good but its a shame you have to pay for ironing. On the whole it was a good holiday and i would recomend this place to others. If you go shopping never ever accept the first or the second price they offer you. Drive for a hard bargain.

My husband myself and our 2 teenage children went to this hotel and all I can say it what a fantastic holiday. We had the most relaxing 2 weeks ever!! The rooms were huge and very clean.
The staff at the hotel were amazing and worked really hard to make sure everyone was happy. The entertainment staff in particular were great and again worked really hard. The animators knew to leave you alone if you were sunbathing & they did not pester if you just wanted to watch the others make fools of themselves. The shows in the evening were on a 2 week rotation so we did not see the same thing twice, some of them were a little cheesy but all were enjoyed.
There is an indoor pool as well as outdoor and with it being 45 degrees it was very welcome.
The Spa facilities are in the hotel grounds and were under used which meant that you were looked after and pampered.
I would definitely go back to this hotel for a relaxed break. The variation of the food was good and there was always something to eat even for a picky teenage daughter.
The down side was the small beach area which was not as nice as it could have been.
Crazy golf & ping pong became a regular challenge, we seemed to be the only guests to use these.
I would warn against going to the waterpark in Port El Kantaoui. It was expensive for what it was and was overrun with people. It was difficult to get a go on any of the slides and the wave pool was so full you could not help to bump into people.
This Hotel is in an ideal location if you wish to visit Monastir, Souse, Port El Kantaoi.

Great Hotel, one of the cleanest I have been in in Tunisia. All staff very helpful, food good. Outdoor pool very nice but the hotel next door (part of the same hotel group) much better for children as it's indoors and can shelter from the heat. (which can be used).

Great air conditioning throughout the Hotel and very impressive lobby.

We booked this as a 5 star hotel but in reality it's probably a 4 star.

Beach close but a little dirty for my liking. So if you like the pool, like a cocktail and a little stroll to the shops then this is a good Hotel.

Not far from airport, so settled in hotel in no time.
Room very primitive, dated. Floor was swept after 5 days of being there, towels and bed linen changed each day, albeit one day the bath towel was something that I would have used to dry my dog on - torn and shredded on the edges. After the first day there were flowers scattered on each corner of the bed and the next day a rose left in the room - touched by that, nice piece of guest relations by the maid.
Food unimaginative, but hot. Astounded at charge of £1.25 for glass of orange juice at breakfast, alternatuve was VERY watered down squash.
Disgusted at charge of £1 each per day for sun lounger round pool and extra 50p for cushion/mattress to go on top.
Sea water pool surround consists of aggregate slabs - tough on bare feet. Pool edge, stones set in concrete (some sharp edges).
Good beach location, but lots of seaweed along the shore and August is Jelly Fish season - so avoid that month if you like swimming in the sea.
Rap music played all day with boom, boom, boom playing loud and clear, after fifth day had a pounding headache from the noise, outdoor music goes on until 2am .
Daytime entertainment good, but think the main players need thier whistles shoved somewhere - footieball (as they say it) volleyball, water polo, water arobics, .beach gymnastics
No indication of where the indoor pool or Spa is situated, no information on hotel in room or at reception.
In it's favour - the staff are very friendly, polite and helpful - albeit when handing in our key at checkout the receptionist did not enquire as to whether we had enjoyed our stay or not,
In all - my opinion is that the hotel needs a shake up and re-vamp. I appreciate that this is a primitive country and you accept their cultures, but having stayed in Tunisia before I have stayed at far better places.
Will we be going back there, to Tunisia yes, that hotel - no. We did however meet people, that go back every two years or so to this hotel and I ask myself - WHY?

I thought this hotel was lovely.
i have been to Tunisia 4 times and this is my fave hotel! I stayed in the houda which is right next door which is an all inclusive.... and even though the pools are slightly better, i think the mir mar is cleaner and the rooms are better then the houda.
Also the staff are alot more friendly then anywhere else i have stayed. The spa staff are very nice and good at what they do. especially one of the reps that offers the sessions!
Restaurant staff are friendly to and always give a warm welcome.
The bar on the beach is very nice and turns into a funky disco in the evening. there is also some bars opposite the hotel which are good.
If you want more then head to sousse for a night out!

the only fault is that you have to pay for sun beds and the beach has some weed compared to other beaches further down!! but its not that bad.

If you like busier hotels this is not the place for you!! but if you are looking for a chilled relaxing holiday then this is perfect as its quiet all year round!

i am going back for 2 weeks in august and i cant wait!!!!

I stayed at this hotel in May and have to say its such a relaxing hotel. The Staff are excellent and the food very good. Has its own nightlcub & pub and there is a another club across the road with great music with pool table etc, so if you get to hot in the heat, you can pop over there in the day, its lovely and cool. I wouldnt eat in the restaurant across the road (next to club)because you get ripped of by the man with the horrible teeth. You ask for a salad and he will offer you chicken with that, great! Until you get the meal and its a full course chicken dinner with potatoes and the works...the bill was high! We only wanted a salad! Such a chilled hotel, you feel like you have been away for ages here...its a great hotel. I would highly recommend it!!!! Going back soon.

Ideally placed for airport transfer. Rooms (including the bungalows) as large, but dusty, shabby & dated. In desperate need of a referb.
Food boring and over cooked.
Good beach location, but avoid if you hate seaweed, it was covered all along the shore and out to sea.
Disgusted at having to pay for sun lounges including the ones at the pool side.
Isolated and no where to go at nights & entertainment very amateur.
Very noisy with internal & external nightclubs. We moved rooms 4 times in 7 days in an attempt to find a quiet room.
Fantastic weather, however.
