“Wonderful Tunisia – Wonderful Palm Marina”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

This trip was my second to Tunisia this year, and I have to start my report off first about the Enfidha airport, I love going to Tunisia but going through this airport is a nightmare it seems to be that lots of planes land and take off at the same time, so the queues in and out are always too long, there are lots of immigration desk there with only a couple manned, and my advice is book a taxi for your airport transfers, so if you want to go to a beautiful hot country just three hours from the UK you will just have to put up with it, then getting to the Palm Marina is well worth the wait
As a frequent visitor to the hotel and can agree and disagree with lots of comments from the previous reviews, but for me the Palm Marina offers everything that I need for a relaxing holiday, bars, beach, lots of space around a huge pool, good food, clean towels and rooms cleaned every day, and most of all the excellent service from all of the staff, and I am sure if you have any problems just speak to the public relations guy called Ahmed, and he will be able to assist you.
And just to have one moan, not about the hotel, but about some of bad mannered guests that go there, a Please (Min Fadlik) and thank You (Shukran) go a very long way, I will be looking to return to the Palm Marina early next year

Room Tip: Get a room with a pool viewh

We arrived Saturday midnight 5-10-2013. The man who brought our cases up to our room 417 showed us how to adjust the air conditioning. I put it on max.
On Monday I discovered that though the air was still blowing it was not cool. I went to reception and informed them, they said they would fix it. On Tuesday morning I complain at reception who say they will fix it. On Tuesday afternoon Air con still not working!
I went to reception and ask to see Hotel manager and am referred to the reception desk manager BEN ABDESSLEM SAHBI who is VERY UNHELPFUL and who tries to fob me off with stupid excuses. I keep asking him to see the hotel manager and say I will write to TRIPADVISOR and VIRTUAL TOURIST and to the HOLIDAY COMPANY. I am beginning to lose my temper with him and he seems to be afraid that other guests may overhear.
Eventually after about 15 minutes he says he will put the Air Con back on,
As you can imagine this episode did not make my holiday any better.
The other MAJOR PROBLEM was the UNNECESSARY HIGH VOLUME OF THE NOISY MUSIC that went on till 11 o' clock at night. This pandemonium was put on by the so called 'animation team'.

Dear customer,

We read your review posted on Tripadvisor after your holidays spent at El Mouradi Palm Marina.

We were very concerned about the air-co trouble happened during your stay, foremost we would like to apologize for this incident and we would like to inform you and referencing to the T.O. contract, the air-co works till the end of September, but seeing that the weather was still a bit hot, the management decided to extend the operation of the air-co so far.

The weather in October is very changing, on Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th the max temperatures was between 24°C and 25°C and as we are an environment friendly and in order to save energie we switched-off the air conditions on Monday and then back working after your complaint.

We would like also to apologize subsequent to the misunderstood happened with the Front Desk Manager.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back during your next visit to Port El Kantaoui / Sousse.

Yours.

I have recently returned from the Elmouradi Palm Marina in Port El Kantaoui, Sousse,
Tunisia.
It is not exclusive, 'luxury' 5* nor is it a 'Top' hotel.
I say this because we booked with Secret Escapes who advertise their holidays as such......We subsequently found out from others staying here that we could have booked through an other agent for £100 each less, with more notice and without paying a booking fee to Secret Escapes.

The night we arrived we embarked a manky old mini bus with 8 seats, all full and no air conditioning and as we were to find out no suspension either, for a two hour journey to our hotel. There is a closer airport but we chose to fly on a Sunday so had to fly into Tunis.

On arrival the light outside our room was off and hanging out of its socket, I asked the porter to get it fixed but as you can see by the picture taken two days before we left, it was not done. (Update: the light was fixed the day we left!) The carpets although hoovered every day, see pictures, were stained.

As this hotel is a horseshoe shape most of the rooms are the same size, quite large and only a few do not have a sea view. Our room and balcony was cleaned thoroughly every day with clean bedding and a large bottle of water provided (you can also get bottles of water from the inside bars).

We found the Piano Bar to be the best area to sit at night. If you don't smoke it is one of the few places where smoking is not allowed and if you do there is a balcony for you to smoke on. From the balcony you can watch the outside entertainment but to be honest, we tried to avoid the entertainment at all costs. The staff are very nice and make lovely cocktails, it is the best decorated of all the rooms in the hotel.

The themed restaurants we went to were the Mediterranean and the Tunisian. The Mediterranean was just shockingly bad. I had the fish which was inedible and my friend had the 'meat' which was like a mixed grill only incinerated! The Tunisian was a bit better (but you would like to think they should be able to cook their own dishes)!

There were a lot of very rude Russians and Germans but you can't avoid that you just have to be prepared to deal with them in whichever way suits you. We found laughing at them helped us!

24 hours before we left to come home we went to the information board to see if the details of our pick up were there, they were not, so we left it until the evening before we were to be picked up only to find still nothing on the board. We went to reception who phoned our rep, Sue, who said she had no pick ups the next morning. I showed the receptionist the paperwork and he informed me he would call her again and come and find us in the bar. About 23.00 we were tired and not knowing what time we needed to be up in the morning for our two hour transfer, we wanted to go to bed, so we went back to the receptionist who said we should be in reception for 09.50, (how long had he known that for?) and why didn't our rep know about us when she'd arranged for us and two other couples to arrive? Subsequently, we found out the other two couples had a note put through their doors.

As travelling to an all inclusive resort we did not change up any money however we were informed we needed to leave a deposit in Dinar for the pool towels (which I've never had to do before) and tips were expected for everything including but not exclusively bringing a sun
bed mattress to you, bringing drinks either by the pool or in the restaurant and of course the cleaner.

Overall I'd say we got what we paid for however, I would not book with Secret Escapes again, nor would I return to this particular hotel until it has had a major refit..... I have to mention the staff were all very helpful and smiley (even if you hadn't tipped them), however they speak French and very little English but enough to be understood (with a bit of sign language).

Room Tip: The hotel is horseshoe shaped and most of the rooms have a sea view. If you want a quiet room ask fo...

First let me say that the holiday in general was great! But this is a review so let me do just that!

Ultra All-inclusive Superior sea view room. Booked through Secret escapes, at £480 each for 1 week but by Just Sunshine.

First The hotel....... Was possibly once a 5* but has definitely seen better days, Dirty carpets in the hallways, (although hoovered often) lights not working here and there, one out of the three lifts out of action. Rooms were cleaned daily, beds were pristine and white, though a bit hard for me but all just a little shabby. (the "mini bar" (fridge) had no shelves left and only a bottle of water in it) Bathroom clean but again a tad shabby, separate toilet, nice idea. Nearly all rooms had a sea view, but not sure what made ours superior.

Food ..... Really what you'd expect from any buffet, good variety, and the pool cafe was good for lunch, (Nb: you were not allowed to take food back to your sunbed to eat it.) We went to a Mediterranean night "Al la Carte" night it wasn't Al la carte but a set menu. and quite frankly it was awful, tasteless defrosted sea food, cremated meat, mushy fish, and fruit salad which seemed to be just chopped apples, with a dollop of icecream. The Tunisian night "Al la Carte" (not) in the upstairs restaurant was better.

Drink. Wine (red or white) was ok, (better than Egyptian wines) cocktails, good. beer lovely (although I don't like english beer so I may not be a good judge)

Pools were lovely, we went in October so no trouble with getting sunloungers and beds to put on them, with blue pool towels which you could change every day. (Nb: deposit for towels ) Service around the pool if you waited for the one waiter was slow, but getting your own no problem.

Staff ......... were fantastic friendly and helpful, and we tipped a couple of dinars to each but when we missed tipping it made no difference.

We didn't go on any trips but from other people, got that they were not fantastic.

All in all we had a nice relaxing week. Getting what we expected for our money ...........

Except that we booked through SECRET ESCAPES. A company that advertises luxury hotels at low prices. This just wasn't what we expected, We could have booked this hotel through any number of travel agents for less money,

My advice for this holiday or any holiday that you've seen on Secret escapes is find it on another travel agents.

Arrived here after visiting here 30 years ago and has it changed, the hotel and grounds are very good and also the Port as well, but the rest of the area outside are dirty and smell of sewerage. but back to the good side of the holiday, the food in the restaurant first class wide variety every day, pool side lunch time menu very good if you didn't want to go to the main restaurant. Theme Al a carte nights avoid the Italian nights food very poor, go to the Mediterranian evening much better.Rooms, one side of the hotel is cheaper accomodaion it pays to go for the ultra all-inclusive. Staff all very friendly save your tips till the end.

Room Tip: Don't go for the cheap rooms

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2013

We stayed at the El Mouradi Palm Marina in the middle of March. We’d never been on an all-inclusive holiday (and in all honesty it’s probably not really our thing), BUT this place really does seem to do it perfectly. I’ll try to sum things up briefly:

Food: huge variety of salads, meats, specials starters, deserts, etc. every day. My only criticism is the nasty “juice” which tastes even less pleasant than cheap squash! But this is obviously a minor issue overall. I actually felt healthier all the time we were there than I often do at home.

Pool: Absolutely lovely, big and the perfect temperature to cool down after time in the sun. Having said that there was always a pleasant see breeze so it never felt unbearably hot despite being around 30oC every day. Wish they didn’t have the loud music all day though, can’t imagine anyone wants it!

Beach: Seemed very nice, though we didn’t use it much as we saw jelly fish as soon as we walked down there on our first afternoon and the med is really too warm for swimming at this time of year (not their fault!)

Staff: Friendly, almost without exception, and very helpful.

Drinks: All seemed at least drinkable, if not very good (including wine, beer, gin, local spirits, etc.) Only slight criticism was that a lot of the wine was corked. They would always happily change it if asked, but they’d continue to serve the same bottle to others, then back to you again if you finished your glass of uncorked wine.

Rooms: Clean, spacious, great air con, VERY comfortable beds, nice balcony and views. Only criticism – they didn’t change our sheets once and you have to listen to the entertainment in the evening. Not much English TV? You're in bloomin' Africa!

Entertainment: Do people really enjoy any of this stuff?! I don’t really see the point.

Tunisia: It was great that the flight was short. Surprised at the moaning on here re poverty and filth, as what do you expect in a developing country. We did the Just Sunshine day trip to Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bu Said, which was great and a real eye opener and there are some really beautiful sights. We didn’t encounter anyone who wasn’t friendly the whole day. Anyone who tries to sell you something you don’t want, just say NO!

Location: The Port itself is pleasant enough with some nice restaurants and shops. If you are going there in the evening, I would recommend a taxi, as they're very cheap and the walk along the main road is unpleasant, with a strong smell of sewage en route.

Value for Money: This is why I’ve had to give it five stars, because for what it is, it’s fantastic. We paid £980 for two of us for a week, over half of which will have been on the flight (no problems with Syphax either by the way). Anyone who expects a UK five star standard hotel with all food and drink (not to mention shisha!) for a week for two people for under £500 needs their head looking at! The hotel is clean, spacious, welcoming and we would definitely go back if we were looking for that sort of thing again.
