“Disappointed at first”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

We arrived at the hotel at 4am and our first impression was disappointing! The staff on reception were unfriendly, uninformative and had a carefree attitude!! After completing paperwork he gave us the room key and pointed to the lift. The lift wasn't working so after waiting we were told to walk to our room and the porter will bring our luggage!! Our room was average with an amazing sea and pool view! After a couple of hours rest we went down for breakfast at 9am and were told there was no bread left! I have been on many holidays and have never been told there is no bread for breakfast! The food at lunch and dinner was very repetitive however we did manage to find something to fill our tummies. If you are a tea lover like me make sure you take your own tea bags as the tea bags in the hotel don't look or taste anything like tea! We ended up buying our own as were staying for two weeks. My daughter lived off pizza and pasta! The hotel staff are not willing to help you in any way unless you tip them! The animation team were rubbish and did the same rubbish everyday! My daughter sometimes went to the mini club and always read the timetable before she went however always ended up playing board games or drawing! Amal who is the mini club ENTERTAINER did no ENTERTAINING what so ever and clearly didn't care or have any skills to work with children! The pool was excellent with plenty of loungers, the layout of the steps to sunbathe was excellent. After visiting some amazing beaches we weren't wowed by this beach as the water was dirty, it had jelly fish in it and the sand was a bit mucky! Overall this hotel is average. We had a displeasing start but got use to it and enjoyed the rest of our holiday. This hotel is definitely not five stars. They have either bought the stars or the hotel has not been inspected for ten years.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room with a pool and sea view and remember to take lots of money for tips if you...

To start with only take note of the comments from other reviews regarding the carpets if you intend to spend your holiday in the hallways. We stayed for two weeks from the 4th August onwards, after a two hour delay with Monarch from Manchester we finally arrived at the hotel and duly completed the visitor forms. We were informed that our room was not yet ready so we went for some food and a wonder around the hotel and returned to reception an hour later and were shown to our junior suite (room 328). What a suite.... We had a separate room for the kids to sleep in which had two leather sofas, a flat screen tv and fridge in and their own balcony. The main room had a dining table and chairs and our super king sized bed, fridge, bathroom, dressing table and two balconies.

Food was always available and there was always a choice to suite everyone in our party. The evening dining is split into two sittings with all guests using the same table and same sitting for the duration of their stay, a really good idea and our waiter was excellent.

The entertainment team were really friendly and were always trying to get everyone involved in activities day and night a special mention to Sabir, Mohammed and Yaseen in particular who went beyond the call of duty to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves. Whilst watching the entertainment during the evenings we were served by Ben who ensured our glasses were never empty and we are really thankful to him.

Please try to show your appreciation for people's hard work by tipping to appreciate them and not to expect superior service.

We had a wonderful time, made lovely new friends and would definitely consider this hotel again.

Room Tip: Junior suite Room 328 has three balconies, internet wifi and is in a quiet area of the hotel, no poo...

Palm Marina used to be a good hotel, we have stayed here last year, too, but now it's under average. No service at all, poor food and drinks. The hotel employees prefer the local guests, they don't care about the tourists. They run out of food and cold drinks every day, and the waiters don't care about the guests from Europe at all. We can't enjoy our holiday, the hotel is full with really noisy locals with a lot of children. I do not advise this hotel to anyone. It' highly overpriced for that low level of service, anyone can find better hotels for that price. We will not come to Tunis anymore, our current stay is a big
disappointment.

Just returned from Tunisia, stayed at El Mourdia Palm Marina, again! Fantastic time. Went with a friend and booked with Just Sunshine Mendhi the rep was great very friendly and informative.
All in all we had a great time, the staff at the hotel really do make this place very special. Very special thanks to Akram and Saleem from the Piano bar for being so attentive and nice. The animation team work very hard and are a great asset to the hotel, I really enjoyed the night time entertainment that they put on. Not the best but they had everyone on their side. The entertainment that was bought in was disappointing .
Had a brilliant time and would highly recommend Tunisia as a holiday destination, 3.30 from the uk and no time difference.
Just had to ask what happened to the cats please ? Very sad that they were not around as much.
Thanks for a lovely holiday

My sister and I visited El Mouradi earlier this month and had the most amazing holiday. The staff were warm and helpful. They made our holiday so special. Our room was spacious and we had the most amazing sea view. I switched into holiday mode almost immediately. The hotel staff knew they were expecting a coach full of tired travellers and made the whole check in process effortless. I read on trip advisor before going that tipping is encouraged. Well we did tip and the attentiveness from the staff, that served us daily, was exceptional, in particular Anis, what a wonderful guys. I also have to say that Mehdi the holiday representative was so helpful, kind and knowledgeable. For all those who commented on the quality of the carpet in the hotel...REALLY!! I am sorry, but that says more about you than the hotel. My sister and I would definitely go back to this Hotel in a heart beat.

This 5 star hotel didn't make a good impression instantly due to the unhelpful reception staff. To begin with they appeared too busy to acknowledge us waiting and then handed us forms to complete, gave us a key and pointed us towards a porter who could tell us where our room was. There was no explanation of where anything was or a map of the hotel. We were just asked what sitting time we would like at dinner.

When we found our room we walked in to find 2 single beds. I immediately returned to reception to say they had made a mistake as my husband and I had booked a double room. I was rudely informed that booking a double room did not mean a double bed and it should have been specified in the requests. He therefore informed me he was not obliged to give us a room with a double bed. I was expecting a big argument but he handed me a different key and pointed towards a different direction.

We found the new room. A bit tired looking but I've come to expect that from Tunisian 5 star hotels by now. It appeared clean however had a large number of small black flies around the room. We waited half an hour for the luggage to arrive by which time the restaurant was closed for lunch. We were refused entrance and told to go to the other restaurant that served all afternoon and that we could get the same from there. This was definitely a lie to brush me off!! By this time I was quite annoyed by the lack of customer service I was receiving. Not a good first few hours!

The pool was lovely, plenty of loungers available and the food was excellent with a very comprehensive all inclusive service. Cocktails were included. Afternoons sweet pancakes were freshly made. Evenings had popcorn available. Pizza were made until 2am. The restaurants provided a brilliant selection of food with excellent waiter service. The piano bar provided late night drinks and then you could move on down to the disco which also had all inclusive drinks.

The entertainment team were friendly even if they weren't sure about how to do all the activities. I had to show one if them how to hold the archery bow which was a bit worrying. The shows on the evening were entertaining and usually quite amusing. The beach BBQ (a payable extra) was disappointing. The food wasn't brilliant. There was only drinks provided free until a certain time and then they were very expensive to buy. The show was okay but not worth the money and the disco with foam caused the sand to turn to mud and was quite disgusting. We didn't stay long and went back to our hotel for free drinks and a decent disco.

On reflection this was one of the better hotels I've stayed in in Tunisia. The all inclusive element and good food and service definitely helped it to score highly overall.

Room Tip: Request a double bed if required as a double room apparently doesn't automatically entitle you t...

Don't fly with Tunisair from Heathrow, three hour delay outbound. We over heard a regular flyer on that flight and she said "oh it's always late", no updates from the ground handler Azzurra either which didn't help.
So we arrived at 0300 in the morning after a hair raising transfer from an aspiring F1 driver. The reception staff were excellent, they apologised that all the bars and restaurants were closed but said they would send up drinks, we said that's very kind but we were fine. We had two superior sea view rooms booked with Secret Escapes. Reception apologised that our sons room was not on the same floor as us, not that we had asked for that, but we could change in the morning. So we went off to our rooms tired but glad to have arrived. Ten minutes later room service arrived with omelette and salad for us all, we didn't order it or expect it but we were really impressed that reception had taken the time to do that for us. We changed room in the morning with no issues
Food overall was good but watch out for some tough and gristly meat in stews and curry looking dishes. Our waiter was Saleem and he was very good, we never had an empty glass. The best meal was the steak we had on one of the a la carte nights by the pool.
We spent our days on the beach, Mario, Jimmy and Fatti the drinks guy, were all great. Mario sorts out the activities on the water, he is not pushy at all, if you don't want to do anything then that's fine, we did the jet skis and flying fish, didn't have money on us but Mario said "don't worry pay me later" Fatti got to know what we were drinking and kept them coming all day We didn't need to ask for drinks they just turned up. Tip a couple of quid at the start of your holiday and whenever else you feel like it and you are in business.
One thing about the beach was the jellyfish, our two were stung several times, not badly but it was uncomfortable for a while
Travel back to Tunis was even more hairy than when we arrived, small mini bus with six of us in, we reached Mach 1 pretty much straight away and slipstreamed most vehicles cutting in and out of traffic better than Hamilton passing back markers, all of us were relived to make it to the airport. Delayed an hour this time. I did ask why and apparently a shrug of the shoulders means "because it is"
All part of the fun.
Go to this place, we had a great holiday
