“Another lovely fortnight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014 via mobile

Another great holiday at Club Kantaoui. This is our 3rd visit and this year we took friends. Felt a little under pressure as both have holidayed in 5star resorts. No need to worry because both had an amazing time. Rooms a little dated but very clean, staff are wonderful including the hard working animation team, special thanks to Bilel, Thomas, Ali and Nora our lovely waiting staff, food is fair but you can always find something to eat. Far from a 5star but wonderful value for money and a friendly, safe environment for all visitors. Booking this week for our 4th visit next year :)

Ron from Glasgow, 4th-15th June
Staple diet lunch and dinner, beef and chicken you could sole your shoes with, breakfast; cauliflower cheese, stewed peppers mixed veg, saute potatoes, spam (spiced pork and meat) no bacon,, once in our 11days we got pork chops in the evening? Lots of people agreed with us.

Only go there if your looking for a Tunisian man, or you are taking a man with you.
I strongly advise don't go there if your blonde young and female !!!
Crap food, hotel dirty, staff unhelpful, even worse if you flew with Thomas cook!!!!
And above all they don't cater or like English!!
Will never go back, and would not recommend to anyone !! Go at your own peril!

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for superior as in this hotel it just means ground floor

Once again we returned to this hotel after a lovely holiday last year. I just do not understand the people who leave bad reviews. The hotel is lovely and clean, they are always cleaning all the public areas and toilets. The rooms are a little "tired" but after all you only use them for sleeping and showering, if you want five star treatment pay five star prices! Clean towels were left everyday and bed linen changed.
There is plenty of choice food wise and I am a very fussy eater but always found something to my liking, don't forget you are in Africa so will not get the food you get at home, if you want English food stay in England!!
The bar staff and waiters were excellent and did not expect tips, we tipped when we wanted to.
All the staff work really hard and deserve tipping for waiting on you. The waiters only needed to see us and knew exactly what we wanted to drink.
Port El Kantoui is a lovely resort and we never got hassled once, There are a lot of fixed price shops and they are cheap.
The taxi drivers are just outside the main gates and are very pleasant, ok they do ask if you want a taxi but again they are only trying to earn a living, if you say no politely they just leave you alone.
All in all we had another lovely hassle free holiday in this hotel and met some lovely people.
A holiday is what you make it and if you reply in a polite manner they will leave you alone.
If we were asked by the animation team to join in we just said no thank you and they replied have a nice day.
Ok you have to pay a dinar for a large bottle of water or you just fill your water bottle up in the restaurant (if you leave the empty bottle on your table the waiter will fill it up for you at no cost).
We have stayed all over the world and believe me this hotel is lovely for the money you pay, we have stayed in far worse hotels.

Myself, mother and sister stayed from the 4th June 2014- 11th June 2014. After reading the reviews before we left, we had to just go with an open mind. Although our Thomas cook shop advised us it would be great and sold it to us as the "perfect destination and holiday resort".

After Arriving at Enfidha Airport it went down hill from there.. on route to the coach for our transfer, a man (we believed to be the coach driver dressed like them) stole our suitcases out of our hands and marched off to the coach to put them underneath and then requested a tip, arguing for English money and when he had finally realised we only had debit card on us he went off in a strop.

Whilst driving through Tunisia to El Mouradi Club Kantaoui the area looked run down and not very appealing then we arrived at El Mouradi our first impressions weren't too bad and we were greeted at reception by moody receptionists and then a porter who served us a few cakes and fresh juice.

We then got some wristbands (which are ridiculous, leave an awful tan line) went to our room which the door was not easy to open but on the other hand the balcony's doors did not have a lock on them, the bath didn't keep the water in and was also a yellow and dirty. The wall lights were hanging off the walls, along with wires on display! By this time we wanted to get in the sunshine and enjoy the pool.

The weather is amazing best thing about the holiday! 35 degrees and although the swimming pools were cold in the morning they warm up about 2 o'clock so lovely to relax in. One of the lifeguards "Whiskey" was extremely helpful and spoke excellent English, very kind and willing to lift sunbeds over to us as my mum is partially disabled.

Which may i add * fell down the stairs because they were wet and the maids had not wiped up properly, so this caused distress and was very dangerous however the staff did not care and had not cared to explain where lifts where situated.

We then decided to try out the restaurant for tea. You get allocated an evening table for the whole week and pick a time of 6pm or 8pm. As we believed we would be busy for the next week we picked the 8pm but we were oh so wrong! As for the food.. we lived off pizza and chips for the week, we were advised not to eat salad (lettuce) abroad as its washed in there water but there was not a choice of salad anyway! if you like rabbit, dog, turkey that is blue and other unlabelled food then you'll enjoy it but as for British food there is nothing on the menu that suited our taste buds! Even the morning breakfast we lived off croissants and pancakes unless you wanted left over vegetables from the night before. We craved fresh fruit or beans and bacon but nothing of the sort! For all-inclusive food, nothing was nice and you even had to pay for extras like orange juice, bottled water, fruit cocktails and ice cream!

Around 4pm we decided to have a look outside of the resort as on arrival we noticed a shopping centre with a weird look and an air plane feature outside. we walked towards the security gates of the el mouradi club and wow once we hit outside the taxi drivers were pestering us "come in my taxi", " come to the Irish bar" and then they stopped when we said we just walking to the shop. However, it didn't stop there for others, men driving past would beep, wolf whistle, twist that head out the window and shout rude/sexual gestures. We tried to ignore this but it seemed to have got worse with small children around 4 years old trying to sell you flowers, who would grab your legs and try and walk in-front and around you- i was completely disgusted as these small children should be looked after not working for there parents. Then a young boy around 12 years old had a camillian in his hand and was trying to push him in our face and myself and mother hate any reptiles so we felt uncomfortable and in fear but a gesture he made " you have a nice body, me want to have sex with you" made us so disgusted we went back to the hotel as we felt so un-safe and awkward.. once arrived back to the hotel we were all including my sister aged 16 very tearful!

The next day we spoke to our Thomas Cook Rep about our room, which he replied you need to speak to Guest Relations so we spoke to her who told us although we paid extra for a superior room we are in a standard room! (Which was a Thomas cook mess up) we were moved to a superior- which had nothing superior about it! We were facing the open road, balcony doors would not lock so felt un-safe and only 2 beds. By this point i was fuming and my mother was in bits so i spoke to reception with our rep and after a argument they moved us to a family room which had a lift near by for my mum to access, the room was more spacious but the bath was still yellow and there was a punch hole in the door by this time we had enough of carrying luggage here, there and everywhere and we just had to enjoy the rest of the week after wasting 2 days.

The communication in the hotel was poor for English, it was a case of guessing where to go.I felt that people were so rude and ignorant and made not to feel welcome- if the hotel doesn't want English people then don't let Thomas cook or Thomson sell the package.

Also when we booked we were told everywhere had WiFi in the resort, it seems it was just the reception that did and was extremely slow but because of the poor entertainment and the lack of things to do, this seemed to be the most popular area.

We were also told the rooms would have air-conditioning and seemed when we arrived this was not on until 15th June which being in the 35 degrees was not easy at night when you needed to sleep.

Overall, I would not recommended this hotel or in fact going to Tunisia unless you have a strong male with yourself. As 3 ladies we felt un-safe and intimidated. I have been to 2 star hotels in Spain and would not even give this hotel a 2 for its overall experience. If you want a relaxing hotel where you would like to sunbath this hotel would also not be for you as the animation team will drag you up and call you "lazy" if you don't join in or participate in any activates. If you have the money to tip every person in Tunisia even staff at your resort then you may have a better experience too. To be honest the horror story of the holiday from hell does go on to more lengths but i am writing this as i don't want anyone to be in the same boat of disappointment as we were and to come back from a holiday as stressed as we are!

Room Tip: Best to tip for a better service although this is all inclusive so very pointless! Do not let airpo...
