Just returned from a week there.... with my hubby and our 2 year old. Major downside was the hotel desperately needs a refurb.... mainly bedroom and pool area. My daughter tripped at the pool and cut her leg... the tile was quite big and broken I told the life guard and showed where it was ..... it was still broken at the end of the week. ... someone WILL hurt themselves badly. ... 1st 2 days no beds at beach or pool because selfish people reserve both areas although its widely noticed that its not allowed! !! However the security at the beach removed towels for us to have space and were clearly not going to stand for people taking the mick!!! On a plus note the food is great and restaurants kept lovely. ... the staff are very good and we did have a lovely holiday and shall return to Tunisia

having been here before i knew that going back with my boyfriend this time was a good idea and i was right! we got to the hotel about 11pm where we was welcomed by the hotel porter who took our cases for us which was brilliant as carrying them all day was becoming tiresome. There was a very friendly guy at reception who welcomed us and checked us in and the porter then continued to take us to our room carrying both cases. Happy that we could then get a drink as even though the main bar in reception closes at 00:00 you could still get a drink from the on site club.

The hotel was spotless! the rooms cleaned every day, the pool area cleaned everyday and kept clean throughout the day! safe as there was always 2 lifeguards on duty who were really nice guys!

The next day, our first morning well it was HOT! we got up to save ourselves sunbeds which knowing we needed to do to get somewhere good to sit, we went to breakfast, the food has improved 100% from being here 4 years ago and could not fault it! we never went hungry!

As soon as we had sat down around the pool area you could just feel a happy and brilliant atmosphere around you! We was spoken to by all members of staff around and especially the animation team! who made this holiday the best we have been on and we have now looked at booking again for next year!

The animation team are a credit to this hotel and of all the animation teams i have met over years they are by far the best!

Bou bou - his smile just lit up the whole place! he spoke to us every day and he is just an all around lovely lad! i must say i did have a soft spot and we wanted to take him home! thinks hes the boss but we all know he isnt! :) and he is an alright dancer! ;) EXACTLY!

Kiko - Him and bou bou were like a little double act! always together and had us in fits of laughter! Even when he was being a pain in the backside he was funny and we returned the favour by surprising him in his bed on our last day! we have only been back 24 hours and we already miss his shouting of 'ARCHHHHHHHERYYYYYY'

Tania & Nastia - these two girls are brilliant! making us laugh, so upbeat and energetic and really made us want to get involved. And brilliant dancers and proved that when taking us out a few nights an showing us their moves here as well as round the pool and in the shows of the evening!

Speedy - you could tell he loves his job and was the man when it come to the Aqua Gym and Zumba and was always nice to look at! he got everyone involved and you could see how happy it made him when his face lit up when he had A LOT of people doing this together! all around lovely guy!

Adel - the boss man! he was brilliant! runs a fantastic team who are a credit to him they are always on the go but you never see them moan!

They are all brilliant with children as well as adults which can be hard to do but they smashed it! I could talk about how brilliant this team are but i would go on forever! they gave us the best send off i have ever had and it brought a tear to a few peoples eyes when we left! Truly the best yet!

i will most definitely recommend this to familys and adults, if they have the same experience we had then they will have people returning on a a regular basis! we were so sad that we had to leave as they made us feel so welcome and like friends rather than guests!

met some truly fantastic people! and most definitely going back!

Abby and Luke!

I did not ever want to be one of these travellers who came on here to air their gripes after supposedly going away on what was supposed to be a relaxing break. I booked via Thomson and got a decent deal for the Abou Sofiane.

I had a number of issues during my stay. Firstly, this may not be important to some people however I choose this hotel as there was an advertised gym on the agents site, hotel site and other documentation I read regarding the hotel. It has a room which has two broken and downright unsafe bikes, a broken treadmill and several broken resistance machines with cables hanging from them. It has one working bike and a number of weights which leave a lot to be desired.

The "gym" which is just off of the pool is used as an overflow for the staff and your lucky to be able to have any floor space if you don't move the excess towels (dirty) and lilo's, flip flops are various other pool related lost or left behind property.

Secondly, the air conditioning in our room was not working correctly. It was reported promptly and maintenance officers came out to "fix" it. I could have taken off some grills, cleaned up some dust and then walked away without saying much except "OK". Language barrier or not it just wasn't acceptable. Naturally I took up concerns with reception who booked another maintenance appointment. They didn't show up so we just gave up asking to have it fixed and spent as little time in the room as possible.

Thirdly......It is clearly marked that check out is at midday on your date of departure. Two people entered our room at 10am, stating "This is our room" before storming out and being quite abrupt at my response. Fast forward five minutes when a porter arrives and states that me and my wife must leave the room as other people were coming in.....Politely explained that we were not to check out until around midday which did not go down well.

These three issues dampened the holiday somewhat, however the rest of the break was fine. Airport, transfers, private beach etc were all up to a great standard and the hotel was kept clean to a very high standard. The food was enjoyable and fresh carvings made available daily.

Staff at Reception was friendly as always and were really polite. Bit of problem with my room key seen as the lights kept going off but took it down to reception and they soon sorted it.

Hotel spotless as always as they cleaning all the time. Bar staff day and night are also friendly and polite. Restaurant staff were great with my niece Tilly due to her little eating problems and gave her a banana.

Pool area was a bit iffy near the baby pool as it was really slippy and Tilly kept slipping over. But apart from that everything was great.

Animation team totally amazing with the kids a few problems but sorted them out.

Rhena animatrice kids club
She was a nice person but needed to learn to smile a bit more and involve the kids a bit more at mini disco instead of leaving out. Also was making my 2 other nieces feel guilty when they didnt want to go to mini club.

Nino
Can be a bit annoying at some points as my sister and boyfriend Craig got Tilly to sleep he went and woke her up. But on the better points he is a good dancer when hes not fooling around.

Biggie
Was like a problem solver for my mum and dad because someone sold us tickets over priced but biggie sorted it. But he needs to stop doing aqua gym its not even exercise what he does its like watching a comedy show give it back to speedy.

Mia
So polite lovely to talk to and is so friendly and really a good dancer. Always talking to people never sat still much because she likes to talk to everyone.

Anis
A bit too quiet and shy needs to get talking more with people but i know thats just way he is. But very good dancer and very polite with everyone even if it is just a smile from him.

Kiko
Returned animator was working in Riviera but is now back in Abou Sofiane and is really happy to be back. Really polite and friendly speaks to all the guests and really good with kids.

Willy
Not really spoke to him but to whst ive seen hes friendly polite and talks to everyone.

Speedy
Well where do I start best dancer of all the animation team. Friendly, polite and good with children. Does Zumba and dance lessons but my favourite was Zumba I even got my niece Casey to do it. Casey even made a loom bracelet for Speedy because she thought he was nice. He came up to see us all when he came back and my mum and dad was so happy to see him. He asked me to go to him with Tilly because I said she didnt like Nino and she was a bit unsure at first but come dinner time she smiled at him. He said to me did you see that she loves me, which was a bit strange cause Tilly doesn't like many people. Must be something about him and also he seems happy to be manager of sport again. ;)

See you all again soon.

second time in Tunisia this year we stayed at the hotel Riviera in April. we have just returned from the Abou sofaine. we checked in and the room wasn't ready we were told to come back at 2pm. The room we were given wasn't suitable as it was on the ground floor. spoke to reception after a few choice words we finally got a pool view room and everyone was happy. Pool was cleaned everyday. pool area was spotless. Air conditioning needs to be improved in the rooms and the club. Animation team did a great job. Restaurant was very clean and there was always something to eat. The Wifi in the hotel is not good it is very slow and half the time it wouldn't connect. As the Riviera hotel and the Abou Sofiane hotel are joint company's you can use both pools and drink there but not eat. The bell boy at the abou sofiane is called slim. He is great. we asked for 3 more pillows and he got them sent straight up to our room. We stayed in room 244 and the maid was in every day with clean bath towels, clean pool towels and clean bedding. On Friday the maid made some fab things out of towels and the sheets she also put fresh flowers on the swans she made out of the towels.
If you give the staff some tips they will look after you everyday. and they will always remember you if you go back in that year or the following year. All in all we had a great holiday and we shall be returning very soon.

Room Tip: pool view room is nosey at night. also if you have children be very careful around the pool as it is...

Having got up at 2am and arriving in the hotel at 10:45am we were told by a very rude receptionist your rooms are not ready come bk in 15 minutes! 15 minutes turned into 2 hours no apologie, a bed was also missing from the room! We found the rooms very basic, towels were often smelly, the bar staff and waiters were friendly! What realy ruined it was the reception team and the money exchange man, they were so rude! They took our beech towels one day and two hours later we were told the whole hotel had run out! The other guests mainly russian were rude, greedy and were not being told by staff about their que jumping etc. Tge beech was a bit crowded so we went to the leftcand were well looked after! I would not recommemd this hotel, i have not had a holidaybin three years and after my stay here i need another one! There was also a lady in a wheelchair that was so drunk most days shouting and swearing all day! The animation team were our saviours without them i think we would have gone mad! Tgry worked non stop! The hotel is at most a 2* hotel, thomas cook have really let themselves down, 5 of us paid over 600 each and we fill robbed! I have never wrote one of these before!
