“Could be great, but sadly not ran great.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

We stayed for 7 nights in this all inclusive hotel, and whilst there was a few good things I personally found that the cons outweighed the pros.

Ok good things first.

Pool was great, very clean and a decent size.
Entertainment staff did try their very hardest to get people animated.
Room whilst basic was very clean and water provided daily.
Beach on the whole was nice.
Food was served promptly at stated times.

Bad points

Whilst the pool was clean, there wasn't much else you could do to entertain yourself whilst the slides where closed. During the first couple of days we where driven mad by the life guards over use of the whistle blowing at the small kids who where trying to make their way out of the slide area the best they could.

The entertainment staff seemed a bit laddish, and would interupt you even when you had your ear phones in sun glasses on laying on a beach bed, this got very annoying whilst trying to relax. The DJ needs to take lessons in how to DJ as the quality of the music was not helped by it being blaired out as loud as the speakers would take. The music was also on repeat and by day 7 hearing La Bomba or Nosa Nosa played was very iterating.

The evening entertainment was shocking, so much that we had to walk away a couple of times as it did not engage the audience, and what was supposed to be entertaining for adults was only funny to the few kids who sat at the front of the stage (lack of stage mic).

As previously stated music was VERY VERY loud, and with two sources of music both different and played loud it was painful.

The rooms where basic, and the wiring in them is very dated and questionable. I would not liked to have left a child alone in our room for the fear of being electrocuted. No double beds so sadly out of luck if your a couple. There is AC but this also switches off when you leave the room, and when you are in your room it takes a long time for it to-do anything worth while.

Being like other normal people who take their mobile or laptop on holiday you could only charge it during the evening when your in your room you couldn't do this during the day due to the daft card setup which ment it was very easy to lock yourself out.

Food - The food had to be the most disappointing part of this holiday, it lacked any great quality and gave the whole family funny tummies for the whole week stay. One person described it as 'school dinner'. If you were not super early you would not get a table which ment that you would often hear an angry UK or Russian person shouting about how daft it was that there wasn't enough tables. My personal view is avoid the soup, and sea food dishes. Pasta is just about ok, the Pizza is ok but not amazing. Breakfast lacked basics such as Boiled eggs, sausages, bacon or anything that resembled a continential breakfast.

Drinks - Choice of Coke, Lemonade, Fanta, Water, Beer, and sprits. Im very sure its all diluted down, you will never get tipsy no matter how much you drink. Cocktails are out of a machine, and I would avoid these at all costs!

If your a person who likes to browse around un interrupted this isn't for you. You will be hassled on this holiday, often for tips, or to by things you don't want, and if you turn them down don't be suprised if you get some attitude.

On the whole, value for money with the weather we had i've come back feeling ok, it certainly isnt the destination for a relaxing break, I would not visit again however until some major improvements are made. It seems very popular with Russians, who the staff made quite clear that they didn't like.

Room Tip: Middle of either block, but given music is played from both ends of the hotel very loudly there real...

I always always try to be positive about where I am staying but I have to say myself and my family were disappointed with Dessole Riviera.

Ill try and start with the positives;

-rooms cleaned daily (but the cleaners come in and out about 6 times and they come in early meaning no chance really for a lie in!!)
-had a nice balcony for hanging up towels etc
-got a bottle of water each day and a fridge (although the electric would go off when out the room a normal credit card wouldn't work in the slot meaning not always cold water but water is water right!)
-staff very nice, chatty best thing to do is have a chat and a laugh with them. someone else wrote on here about leaving tips all the time and putting sweets on the pillow. We only tipped one lady who served us at breakfast and lunch everyday who was lovely. I did think if we tipped more people we maybe would have had sun loungers saved for us etc but we werent that bothered.
-beach beautiful although on somedays there was quite a lot of rubbish in it,think it was dependant on the wind etc some days beautiful
-pool nice and clean,decent size.
-easy to get to Port el Kantoui- dont bother walking seriously get a cab for 5 dinar there is always one outside the hotel and it takes about 5 minutes where the walk along the dusty hot road takes ALOT longer. Port is nice, go with the hassle, make some friends they will remember you through the week- dont let them have you on. For example make sure you check the prices in the menu first if having food or a drink out, haggling - we got a bag down from what would have been £120 to practically peanuts, and they will often also accept pounds or euros.

Okay onto the negatives, make of these what you wish:

-our room flooded everytime you used the shower we couldnt work out why meaning we used lots of towels soaking up the water. My other brother had the same issue.
-food was not good. at all. who wants stewed aubergine for breakfast. Echoing another reviewer you wont starve I essentially just ate pain au chocalat, cheese and bread the whole time. Except the day when they had no cheese and I just had bread and butter. They did have quite a variety but personally I found a lot of it vile. I mean come on how can you cook pizza wrong? They do have cooked chicken at times hidden in a rottiserie thing so make sure you ask for some as that was really nice. They also had lots of melon for dessert which was nice and some of other other deserts were great.
-the tunisian restaurant was already fully booked on the day we arrived, and had no availability until two days after we had left. the italian restaurant had a very limited menu which we did not fancy and none of the meals actually sounded like they were itallian either..
-cocktails. I was so disappointed i really was, who makes cocktails out of a machine. Don't get a mojito. We stuck to G+T and vodka and fanta!
-the music in the evenings was very loud until 11pm each night- VERY loud
-hassle from people on the beach, hassle from people by the pool. i just wanted to have a nap after swimming!! BUT dont go through thomas cook or whoever to book your trips, go with people you meet at the port or the people you talk to on the beach as they get more money for it and you end up saving a bit as well.

All in all if your not bothered about food you will probably have a lovely time but that element really disappointed us!

Stayed in Tunisia 3 times previously always found the country welcoming with fantastic weather. The Riviera is ideally situated with plenty of shops in walking distance and the Marina a 20 min walk or a cheap taxi ride away. Swimming pools very clean, staff very polite and helpful. The only criticism I had was at meal times cutlery was not replaced quick enough and you had to wait a while for a drink but I do appreciate we went during the peak season.
Would visit the hotel again.

We stayed at the Riveria from 12th July to the 19th. The hotel is very clean and the pool area is great. Our room was nice and clean with towels and bedding changed daily. We had a family room which was right next to the entertainment stage so in the evening we had extremely loud music which was finished by midnight so wasn't too much of a problem (If you had babies or toddlers I'm sure it would be). All the staff were friendly and the animation team work hard.
The HUGE let down is the restaurant where they clearly DO NOT have enough cutlery, plates and CLEAN tablecloths which we found out from the first morning we ate there. We hoped that the evenng meal was going to be better but were really let down, as at 8pm we had to find a table ourselves and wait for a member of staff to find us clean cutlery and clean the dirty plates away from the previous diners, the tablecloth was left on with someones elses dinner on it. We would be eating dinner (food not good but could always have bread and salad) and still not have any drinks served. We would normally take our time over dinner and have a few drinks but this was not the case and we would be out of the restaurant within 30mins as it was unbearable,
We spoke to other guests staying at the hotel and they agreed that it was not what you expected.
Overall nice holiday, weather fab but would not return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a pool view.

Once again, my husband and I had a fantastic time. We were worried after new owners took over in January this year. No worries now the hotel is still perfect new owners very committed to getting things right. Food very good more choice. Newly decorated restaurant. Well done not an easy task trying to get it right. We are booked for two weeks and taking friends in October this year. We were there in June this year. and as always, had a fantastic time. For the last 10 yrs we go to this hotel twice a year, and will continue to do so Thanks to all the wonderful staff we have made friends of over the years they make everyone feel very special.
Thanks

Room Tip: Pool view also a sea view any level good only 4 levels high

My partner and I stayed at the Riviera for our second year and have booked for Sept.If I have to give any negative at all it would be that at dinner, although they have a pasta station on several nights they often have pasta dishes on the main buffet. This I think is unnecessary. Apart from that the food and service is excellent (especially Sonia), always something to tempt you.
All the staff welcome you even the domestics cleaning outside say hello and smile. Hedi the barman is AMAZING remembers what everyone drinks.
the entertainment team always keeping busy and making you laugh ZIZO is crazy when they arrive in the morning he reminds me of the film Good morning Vietnam as he is so loud and crazy especially when doing the water aerobics. Looking forward to going back .

Took two children for 1week had agreat time staff really attentive and friendly food good rooms nice and clean and really spacious.
kids club and animation staff so good we hardly knew we had the children and they are already asking to go back again.
Only criticism is that the slides in the pool could be open longer they are a great attraction and having them open for one or two hours in the afternoon did not seem enough, but that aside l would heartily recommend this hotel for agreat family holiday.

Room Tip: Overlooking pool
