“Soviva 2012”
Reviewed 11 May 2012

me and my partner have just returned from the Soviva, and to some of the reviews yes i agree on some level's but i disagree on the others, the hotel could do with a lick of paint, but think of it this way it’s a 3 star not a 5, so if you want a 5 star pay the price. The food was good only 1 bad day where i could personally eat anything, but it’s Tunisia, so it’s cheap to eat out. The daytime made us laugh even though we don’t join in the activities; it was nice to see 2 teams working together. When i say 2 teams i mean the Tunisian and the Thomas cook teams. On a personal note i found the Tunisian team only wanted to talk to the young girls whereas the Thomas cook team would talk to anybody. The evening entertainment was very good on some nights (when the Thomas cook team was on) but left a whole when the Tunisians were on. sometimes we would have to wait 5 minutes till they got changed in to another shirt, whereas the Thomas cook team worked hard and didn’t leave the stage for more than 30 sec, i disagree with Laura M as she must have only been there for a day or 2 before the Thomas cook team started fully, and as for the fact that she said they can’t sing, she needs her ears testing!! As all 4 of them can sing, I would like to see here do their job for 1 day!!! The area around the hotel is very basic as u are in the local street but if you turn right, this is where you find the bargains! All in all a very good holiday, just wish people would take it as it is a 3 star not a 5!!!

I dont understand why some reviews are saying the animation team were great. Ive never been to a resort with such bad entertainment. Im a 22 year old who has been working abroad myself so im all for a good laugh - so its not the view of a person who just didnt want to get involved.

My partner and i went for a week long break and as it is all inclusive and nothing much to do outside the hotel we relied on the 'entertainment' team to keep us occupied. They didnt introduce themselves for a kick off which made it feel slightly aukward when signing up for the quiz etc. They had theyre 'favourites' They only spoke to them and only them. funnily enough they won EVERY single game which in the end made us decide against even entering them. On one occasion we were made to sit through an hour of extremely bad singing, there was no excaping the lack of talent. Your probably thinking its better than nothing and theyre trying theyre best but believe me...awful, im not the biggest fan of kareoke but it would of been much more interesting than watching the same 4 people screeching.

My partner entered a pool playing competition, he was head to head with one of the 'favourites' a member of the animation team was screaming, cheering her favourite one on which made my partner feel inferior. Seriously the most entertaining part was watching the kids play around on stage before everything started.

Theres actually a kareoke bar across the road which we went to but quickly left when we realised we werent welcome as they were locals! We spent most of the holiday on the balcony chatting.

The main thing that made this holiday a poor one was the animation team but having to walk through a construction site to the beach added to it. as did the repetion of food. Would definately NOT reccomend!!

Just back from a week at Soviva and had a great holiday. Weather was hot and sunny, hotel was very clean in all areas. Waiters, bar staff and housekeeping staff work really hard and are always helpfull and friendly. Food was excellent with plenty of choice. There was no problem with sunloungers and drinks were not watered down its just local spirits, so give the bar man a 1 dinar tip and you will get a double measure. The entertainment staff both Tunisian and Thomas Cook work very hard and are very friendly and enthusiastic about their job. My only negative comment would be that there was no room to use to get showered or changed on our last day, we were leaving at 6pm and were offered to use the showers at indoor pool to change. Thankfully we met some lovely people who gave us the use of their bathroom.

Room Tip: request a room with a pool view

We went out of season and arrived to a nice friendly warm welcome, the reception was spacious and well decorated. we went with our adult daughter, son, his wife and their 2 children. the kids had a wonderful time, spending all day in the pool, as it was out of season there was plenty of space and sun loungers. Slides were very good. i've traveld to many countries never have I met such friendly staff from the cleaners right to the receptionist. yes I agree that the rooms need a "lick of paint" but for the price its great value. the animation staff were hardworking and tried their best to keep everyone entertained throughout the day. i will definately go back...The tunisians colud teach the Thomas cook reps how to smile maybe............i would recommend treating yourself to a massage while you're there(but give the pedicure a miss)

The staff were mostly superb, except for the restaurant manager who was very rude and miserable. The food were great, theres always something for everyone. As Im a heavy drinker, I feel most of the booze were watered down, as I didn't get drunk, and a bit tipsy at best. The soft drinks were fine. The pool tables were disappointing, only suitable for beginners (unlike me!). The pool, and slides were great, and theres always a deckchair available. Not so many kids as its school term. Mostly Brits, and a few east europeans, and they were ok. The rep was very friendly and can answer any questions about the country etc. The tours were good value, and we went to 2 of them. The camel rides was a good laugh and fun. Public transport outside hotel were excellent, buses to Sousse only cost a few pennies, taxis are cheap. The souvenir shops outside the hotel have fixed prices, and are great value. The rooms were very clean, and the chambermaid did an excellent job, and deserved a tip at end of holiday. The hotel decor were great and clean. The entertainment was varied, different for each day of the week. Bingo was disappointing, only one game per day, and they didn't have a machine to announce the numbers until the final evening. The location is disappointing as its over a mile from PEK, but hotels in Sousse are located near all the amenities you need, with more bars, restaurants, etc. I would go back if the location improves in future, great for those who prefer to spend most of their time in the hotel etc.

We got caught by the poor reviews of the Soviva before we went & thought "What have we done?"
Yes the hotel is a little 'tired' in places & the adverts before you book don't tell you about some facilitities only being up & running in 'high season' - but without exception the staff were friendly, hard working & always willing to help.
Our two children had a wonderful time: enjoyed the safe freedom around the pools & lounge area making many friends whose memories will last their lifetime!
So, go, relax, have a little moan to other guests but enjoy - it really is fun - some of the entertainment was excrutiatingly hilarious - 'we love you Ben!' is now a catchphrase in our house.

I went to the Soviva Resort Hotel on 25th April 2012, and i found it to be a great holiday. I went with my boyfriend and after reading all the bad reviews i was a bit nervous about what to expect. The reception area was clean and tidy, though we did have to wait half an hour for our room, but we went and got lunch. The room was basic, but very clean and tidy. The maids were in the rooms every day, they cleaned and tidied the room up, and got fresh towels every day.
The pool area was always kept clean, and as we werent in season, we were able to get sun loungers no problem.
The food in the dining room was really nice, there were some dishes that were the same every night but a lot of them were changed every day. There was fresh salad, different meats( beef was lovely...and i'm usually very fussy about this sort of thing) fries. There was also a pasta bar and a pizza bar, where they made omelettes and panacakes which was also a highlight of my holiday....i had pancakes every night. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly. We had the same waiter the whole week, he would have our drinks ready for us on the table, and when he seen we were running out, he would bring another over.
Drink wise, yes the drinks did seem watered down, but it was an all inclusive bar, most people were drinking from 10 in the morning, if it was full strength, everyone would have been drunk by 2!! Bar staff were very friendly, if you gave them a good tip ( about 2 quid) they would pour triples for you (as long as the boss wasnt looking).
Remember that everyone working in the holiday makes about 10 dinar a day...which is £4, so anything you tip them, they will be your best friend,
The animation team that it there all year round is pretty basic. They do games throughout the day with you, water polo, mini golf etc. Then at night, they do a mini disco for the kids, bingo afterwards, then some form of show. It varied between them miming to music and doing a comedy sketch, to playing games with the audience. My favourite was the dancing one that they did, a young boy rico, was an amazing dancer. It made my night. We left just as the season was starting, and the thomas cook entertainers arrived, and to be honest, i prefered the tunisian team.
Lastly, you will get hassle when in the hotel and outside it from people wanting to sell you trips or drag you in to their shops, I found it intimidating but thats just the way the country is. the guys wandering around the pool are actually quite good, we booked a camel ride for less that what it would have been if we booked with the rep. It was great fun and a good memory. If you do venture out the hotel towards the marina or in to the medina, just remember and say no! its a very powerful word so any hassle just say no and keep walking!!
Shopping was really really good. But just remember to haggle!! If you have a price in mind for something, dont pay any more!!
The only bad thing is that you barely seen the rep. She wouldnt come to the hotel until specific times, and that was only for you to book trips with her. I found her unhelpful!

Overall i think this was a fantastic holiday, i wouldnt change a thing, and i would definately go back!!
