Soviva Resort
Ranked #26 of 33 Hotels in Port El Kantaoui
Reviewed 8 April 2010

This is our second trip to the Soviva, our last was in August so we found this time of year much quieter with no fights for a sun bed.
The staff as always were wonderful, friendly people.
The rooms are indeed basic but has everything that you need, room service and clean towels daily.
The pool was really cold but the kids didn't seem to care, we found that you can hire towels, just ask at reception, 1 dinar (50p) a week.
The food is a little repetitive but aren't all hotels on an all inclusive basis?
The entertainment team work so hard and yes some of the shows are that dire that you have to laugh, my youngest whose 5 was in tears on our last day as she didn't want to go home and leave Kimo,Gi Gi, Riko and all the others whose names that I cannot remember.
Do not read the negative comments these people should stick to Butlins, please go with an open mind and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Beware Monastir airport is ridiculously expensive on your return journey!!

My fiance and I have just returned from our holiday in PEK staying at the Soviva Resort and after reading the poor reviews on here before we went, I was SO glad that we went with an open mind, I have no idea what some people had to complain about to write such horrific reviews and show terrible photos as we did not see anything like that here. This hotel was fab, it was very clean, very welcoming, the staff were all lovely and we were really impressed with how big it was. The pool was huge and really nice, yes it was cold at first to get in, but we had such gorgeous hot weather, once you were in the pool, it was lovely...also going down the slides helped, they were really good fun. We were taken to our room by the porter and they do ask for a tip which is usual, our room was basic decor but a good size and had a balcony with a lovely view. We soon realised though that the lovely view was close to the road and it was a bit nosey for us at night as we are used to no noise at home but they moved us to a room the next day with a pool view with no problem at all. The maids keep the hotel rooms very clean with fresh towels every day. There were plenty of sun longers and things to do in the hotel, the animation team were great with the kids, it was family entertainment. Their is a lovely spa in the hotel where we had a fab massage. The hotel had a club, there is a swanky bar but this did not include your drinks even if you were all inclusive which was a let down but the drinks were not to expensive, there is also a very posh resturant to the front of the hotel where we had the most gorgeous 3 course meal for £50, truely amazing food, in a gorgeous shabby chic decor setting. For us, this holiday was a cheap winter gettaway so the hotel was perfect for us as a base but we also enjoyed the all inclusive food which had a lot of variety, as always it can get repetative but it got better and it did change during the week and alcohol was flowing all day every day, but it is local, we did buy vodka in the duty free for our room. Its location was great close to a really nice beach, the weather was amazing, 32-35 degrees every day, we did so many trips, would definitely recommend the quads, £20 for 2-1/2 hours, the sites were lovely plus its really good fun, the Medina in Sousse was an experience but there are bargins to find, the Marina is beautiful, we walked there during the day and it took 45mins its a flat walk all the way, there are lovely resturants there and the Fountains were beautiful...its lovely to sit there at night and watch them go to music and lights. You can have a nice meal for around £25 for 2 with drinks there. I can honestly say there was nothing to complain about during our stay at Soviva and PEK is a lovely place to visit, we both said we would go back again at the same time of year as I can imagine during the summer months it is very crowded and busy. We felt we were given a lot of attention as the hotel was not too busy. We met some lovely couples whilst we were there, we are socialable 27 year olds who enjoy a good time and make the most of where ever we go as we like to see everything, so Im sure couples and families of all ages will enjoy there stay here. Remember it is a forgien country, the locals are brought up differently to english people, they live off of tourisim if you say no they will leave you alone. I hope this helps. Enjoy your holiday there like we did, this hotel has a lot to offer : )

I didn't know what to expect booking a last minute holiday to this resort but it was a great holiday. The staff were all great and I met some really nice guests staying there. The entertainment was more for younger kids, but there was places outside the hotel and it didn't cost a lot to get a taxi to the marina where you can watch the fountain display and do some shopping in the evening. There were the water slides that were good fun at the hotel even though the pool is a little too cold, the weather was great for lying out and sunbathing in though so you instantly get warm again .

There was lots of choice on what to eat at meal times, and I rarely ever stuck to just one meal it's not to everyones taste but I was quite happy with the food. If you like your booze it's best to go all inclusive the price of alcohol wasn't so cheap there. The room was comfy, and the maid was brilliant keeping the room very clean and tidy every day. There's some excursions offered around the hotel, so if you like to do a bit more than lay around the pool you won't be bored.

I have just come back from a weeks stay ay the soviva resort. The hotel is about 2 km from kantaoui centre. the rooms are comfortable, and reasonably well furnished. There is satellite t.v., but if you want a remote handset you need to pay 20 dinar deposit, but you do get this back on its return. the main swimming pool is hugh, with slides running into it, but these are only open for a couple of hours each day. there are a couple of chutes, but these were closed. the food is pretty good and you certainly shouln't go hungry. plenty of choice - for breakfast there are eggs - boiled, scrambled, and omelttes, panckes and fried eggs cooked to order for you. sausages are the tinned hotdog variety,
and plenty of other things too. At dinner time, a choice of 2 soups ( these could have been hotter), a small salad table, and a good choice of hot dishes, usually a roast of some description, fish dishes, pasta, vegetarian options, rice and potatoes. a nice selection of desserts - small cakes, pastries, a big bowl of mousse, and ice cream , fruit salad and fresh fruit. The entertainment in the evenings is a bit of a joke. bingo every night costs 10 dinar ( about £5 )for 1 game. the entertainment staff try hard but could be better. The weather when i was there was terrible. it bucketed with rain on the first night. more rain fell in 6 hours than in the previous 6 months. there were only 2 days when you could lie out by the pool, which was bloody freezing! didn't go the beach once - too cold and windy. one good thing was a quadbike trip - 2 hours for 30 dinar. well worth it. i would go back again, but not in march.

Have just returned after a week at this hotel for a post xmas break and it was great. Was a bit bothered at the reviews that have been posted on this site and i am now going to ignore them from now on.We didnt expect the weather to be hot but 5 out of 7 days it was.The hotel is basic but who stays in their room for the whole time??just the people who take pictures of the broken tiles in the bathrooms!.All the staff are very friendly who go out of their way to please you, they all work very long hours but always have time to laugh and chat. They are not like what previous reviews have said. The food was good enough and something for everyone. If people expect english food with chips with everything then book Blackpool next year! The hotel rooms ok could do with a face lift but whilst we were there they were getting rooms ready for the summer season, normally 4,000 people stay in the height of the season so you can expect wear and tear by winter. There was something going on everyday and it was your choice if you wanted to participate in the activities or not,it was just a pity there wasnt a lot of people but then again it was febuary/march.we did go on a few trips where you can get hasseled but they are poor people and all you need to say is no if your not interested. If you book go with an open mind if you like to experience a different culture. But if you are a bit of a holiday snob then maybe this hotel is not for youthis hotel is for people with children, adults who like a laugh. This hotel also has a customer relations person who is english so any problems of any kind she is there to chat to,dont leave it til u get home and write a bad review, what can she do about it then?Definately recommend the large slides for the brave, quad biking, the medinas,th fantastic golf courses and the pirate ship if your not seasick although this would be better in the summer.

i carnt beleive the comments on here, weve just got back from here on the 7th march. wow ive never laughed so much in 1 week, every one is so friendly here, my daughter (13) is a vegetarian so wasnt a great choice of food, but after telling a lady in charge in the restaurant we were given jacket potatoes with cheese on, ramzi in the restaurant was sooooo nice, he even gave my daughter his wooden turtle keyring which she named gordon. We had 5 hot days spent round the pool. the pool was cold but by dinner were were in the pool and on the slide. the maids were really lovely. the bar staff were fab too, the only thing about the bar was that it said cocktail bar in the brouchure 5 till 7 for all inclusive, but it wasnt and also the brouchure said you can have towels for pool and beach hire but there wasnt so take a couple of your own. The entertainment team were so funny, there entertainment on each night with differnt shows, the tunisian men including these are such charmers. i tip i could give people is that nothing is ever free out and about in the area. we went on the boat and quad bike organised by the men who organise trips from the hotel, there were fantastic. we will go again

booked this from internet at last minute and arrived there 21.02.10 after a pretty good airport and flight experience, no delays etc.
drop offs at other hotels on the way bode well for us but when we were droped off the disappointment was there straight away. The entetainment area (maybe only in the low season, i don't know for sure) is in the reception area and was deafening. Not just music but loud and louder compere and karaoki stuff. There was no-where at all to sit quietly with a drink and the children. one of the two porters who took us to our, seemed very far away rooms in a far block, were not happy with what i gave as a tip but it was all i had at the time, and amazingly said so AND what it converted to in sterling.
Tried to get a glass to take headache tablets in restaurant (had own water in bag) but was ignored 4 times.
Decided to walk outside as noise so bad inside but just did not know where to go with 2 children but when got back was verging on tears and so rang the thomas cook people at 10.30.pm
They were quite professional and did get the local rep to come to hotel early next morning and after a chat she did ring round a get a selection of different hotels for us but we did have to pay extra as went to a 4* and all inc.which was the best decision i could have made it transpired. We had a superb time over at the RIU Bellevue Park.
Not everything is all bad though and the desk manager was a nice lady who was upset we left and there is a new tea room/cafe on the road in front of the Soviva which is really trendy. Don't be put off by the slightly higher prices and that they look at you when you walk in, it is nice (and relaxing).
The Soviva should really only be chosen by the young, and party type at heart, who like to be entertained all the time in a loud way.
It is fairly clean but a bit frayed at the edges but the waiters, if you are a white woman, will bug you incessantly as i found out from 2 nice australian girls who met back up with us at the airport. They too had moved from the Soviva during the week to another hotel as organised by the rep.
And remember half board means that you pay for lunch and ALL your drinks all day which can add up to quite a bit!!
Basically only go here if you are a fun group of twenty- somethings who want a very cheap and cheerful party week.
