“DO NOT GO TO HORROR PALACE”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2013

Definitely not 4* more like a 2* and that's being generous, rooms shabby need updating, tv in room does not cater for the English infact if you are English you feel isolated majority of people are French or German and very rude and arrogant as are most of the staff other than Khan door porter and Yaya and animation team , constantly hounded even when eating becomes irritating!!! Not much to do other than attempt to swim in the dirty germ ridden pool which is hardly big enough to do a full length without being invaded by burkha wearing women who then stay in these clothes for up to 2 days afterwards I certainly would not return forgot to mention food is terrible unless you enjoy eating sweaty cheese for breakfast I was sick of having dry tasteless croissants varied every other day to prevent déjà vu a hard boiled egg, evening meals same my daughter ate rice all week just to survive!! We were half board and don't even get a jug of water with meals you have to buy best advice go to the shop round corner it is cheaper to take your own in

Me, my best mate and my 2 children of 4 and 7 have just returned from Houria. We had a lovely time, second time we have stayed there. Yes the lift breaks down a lot but the staff are willing to help. There are a lot of French and German tourists here but that doesn't stop your fun. The Entertainment Team are great with kiddies and adult activities throughout the day and evening. The food can get repetitive butwe also like to eat out. There's great places nearby. So many people leave bad reviews but this is a great hotel. A holiday is what you make it.

Good hotel, nice stuff, spicy but tasty good food. Go in Sousse bazar, very cheap leather. Go in the Douz...trip...for 2 days. Amaizing desert, safari, oasis. Do not stay in the hotel. Very poor and friendly people.

The Houria Palace Hotel was very lovely to stay in the staff are very helpful and the rooms are pleasant and spacious. The breakfast choices were extensive with much too choose from and even hot food if you want, sets you up very nicely for the day. Only stayed a week and would have stayed longer, only downside is that the lifts only take 3 people and gets hot so its constantly not working, so after a hard day down in Port El Kantaoui or Sousse walking the stairs is a big put off. Take ear plugs as the club just outside the hotel starts very late and is very loud.
On my last day I went for a nice Hammam massage in the onsite beauty fitness centre just by the pool area (had a very nice sauna, scrub and massage, BUT DO NOT TAKE ANY BAGS OR BELONGINGS WITH YOU, IF YOU ARE GIVEN A PRICE FROM PATRICA THE REP, PLEASE PLEASE TAKE ONLY THAT WITH YOU AS YOUR BAGS WILL GET RIFLED THROUGH AND MONEY WILL BE TAKEN) other than that a very nice place

average hotle but for the life of me just dnt know why they dont sort the lift out.
how can u expect people on holiday to walk all those stairs.
i simply just dont get it.
if possible pay a little more and get a better hotle to enjoy your stay.
kids enertainment was good on the other hand.

Room Tip: if poss pay bit more and get a better hotel.

Only stayed in this hotel for two nights and was really glad it wasn't longer, the room we had was clean but needed updating. The lifts were constantly breaking down and it was a bit of a pain walking up & down the stairs when your on the fourth floor. The tables, chairs and tablecloths in the dining room were dirty and the food was really terrible ,very poor choice of everything and the breakfast was just as bad. The pool areas and gardens were nice .We stayed in the hotel for a drink one night but there was no entertainment not even music playing. This hotel is a short walk to the port with the water park (aqua palace) next door ................ Mostly French & German tourists in the hotel which the staff seemed to prefer. Only one person spoke to me in the hotel which was the man in the shop selling leather and jewellery, all the other staff were miserable maybe they couldn't speak English !!!!

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view overlooking the swimming pool on the side of the water park

This place is shabby without being terrible. The positives points were that it cost very little for the week. That is about it. For the negatives...

Nothing worked properly. One lift was broken the whole week. The other would be fine for an hour and then be out for the next 5. This wasn't such a problem for me, but I felt very sorry for the elderly guests - which was nearly everyone. They slowly crept their way up the stairs, hugging the banister for support.

The rooms were ok, but we had to be moved once as the shower was broken. We also complained that there was no aircon but were told that it isn't turned on until June. I mean wtf.

The bar staff were interested largely in chatting up guests. At first it was funny, but by the fourth time one of them had followed my friend to the toilets to wink at her had become tiresome. Another barmen tried to get her to go clubbing with him as the hotel disco was "rubbish" and "full of gayboys" which is eye-rollingly lame. To be fair, other than that the staff were pretty sharp.

In terms of the pools, one was next to a noisy road, while the other was made noisy by the hotel pumping in terrible music, and LOUDLY. I just do not believe that any of the calm retires in their 60s want to relax around a pool listening to a rapper go on about how horny she is and shouting words like bootylicious.

The food was nice if a little samey, and with questionable variety of meat. Twice it said something was Turkey but it wasn't. I thought lamb, someone else said it was probably dog. I'm not sure if they were joking or not.

Port el kantoui in general was a disappointment. The daytime was all false teeth and walking sticks, but after dark it was cheap girls with painted eyebrows, doddering into what must have been the worst, tackiest nightclubs south of Kavos. Imagine something fun, cool, friendly. Then imagine the polar opposite. This was it.

Obviously the place is cheap cheap cheap, and you can't expect perfection for that price, but all the hotels in the area are pretty cheap and I bet they aren't all so run down. So I wouldn't come back, to the hotel or the resort.

Oh yes, the one thing I will say in the hotel's favour was the other guests. They were so lovely, all of them that we spoke to. Most were Flemish Belgians and they were friendly and chatty and deserve to stay in a half decent hotel!
