“What a dissapointment!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

We have just got home from having two weeks at the Royal Kenz, and iam glad to be home. The Hotel its self is very nice, but the staff were rude, not very helpful and made you feel uncomfortable. The food also wasn't very good, and we ended up eating out a lot.
All in all i wish we'd had a holiday somewhere else and wont be returning to Tunisia anytime soon. (also found the locals very rude too when out and about, in the port and Sousse.)
Just trying to be honest as the comments on tripadvisor won me over to book this hotel.

Stayed here for two weeks in June/July this year. Enjoyed our time here. There was lots of water sports to do - parasailing, speedboat, sofa and banana boat and of course quad biking which I really enjoyed which were booked with Max who really took care of us.

The hotel itself is immaculate and well taken care of. The gardeners are a credit to Royal Kenz. Plenty of drinks and food available at the pool and beach bars.

However, the dining experience was somewhat a factor that the hotel needs to sort out. On more than one occasion we could not find a table to sit at. There is one waiter that looks after the tables on the upper floor of the dining hall by the windows that was absolutely vile. He moaned and groaned as to why we sat at a specific table that was empty and didn't even offer us drinks and when we asked he muttered something in arabic as he walked off. Rest assured we never went to him again!

The food itself was good. Plenty of variety although got repetitive during a two week stay. Lots of cakes and crepes available! Although it would have been nice to go to the steak house which when asked, none of the staff knew about.

The evening entertainment was repetitive and boring.

The rooms themselves were good, however the maid on more than two occasions did not provide us with clean towels and our water/tea was not replaced. Also the water went off for whole day and we had to run downstairs to the bar to get some bottles of water so that we could wash our hands after using the bathroom! No explanation was provided to the annoyance of both the other guests and ourselves. Not what you would expect from a 4 star Platinum hotel.

Also we had to pay 40 dinar for the use of the room safe! Total rip off!! When I did pay and got the code I realised that the safe was not even bolted to anything!! Went back down to reception and managed to get the use of another in one of the other rooms we booked.

We decided to book two excursions through Thomson - Tale of 3 Cities and Market Fever.

I would not go on the market tour again as there was not enough time to actually look at anything properly. I found it to be a way of sending tourists to a specific area to be ripped off. Prices in the market are 100% more expensive than in the marina shops so be prepared to haggle a lot - even below what you think is reasonable! We then went for lunch at a hotel in Yasmine Hammamet. The food was rubbish and the area deserted with one or two tourists floating around.
The guide on the tour bus throughout the journey would often just be ranting on something irrelevant. The whole trip felt as if it was spent on the bus rather than at the sights themselves.

The 3 cities tour went to El Djem, Monastir and Kairouan. This was a disappointment to say the least. Not enough time was spent at El Djem or Kairouan and the trip to Monastir was a complete waste of time in my opinion.
When we went to Monastir the tour guide just left us to it for an hour and a half with nothing to do. We ended up being shown around by a local who in the end tried selling us a "silk" rug for 400 dinar which infact was 100% polyester!
In the end the majority of the coach party came back within 40 minutes. Again the whole trip felt like it was spent on the coach and rather boring.

In my honest opinion, the hotel is really nice but would only stay for one week max.

Room Tip: Avoid pool side rooms which are very noisy at night.

Just got back from a 10 day stay here! We travelled as 3 couples. We requested rooms near each other and we were all in a line, rooms 15-19! Nothing special view wise but it was in a quiet part of the grounds which was perfect! The rooms were always spotlessly clean and the cleaner was always so polite and made special effort with flower arrangements on the bed!

The hotel grounds were beautiful, with all members of staff from the receptionist to the gardeners forever smiling and friendly!

The food was SO GOOD! Anyone that complain with the food, must be rather picky. There was always something to eat from pizzas, chips, rice, salad, burgers, turkey, fish, pastas! And breakfast was just as yummy! If you're going to be picky about the food they serve, then go self catering and cook your own food!

Both the pools were lovely, nice and refreshing not cold but exactly what you need to escape the heat! The smaller of the two pools was quiet as the entertainment team were based around the larger pool!
All the bar staff and waiters based around the pool are LOVELY, especially Sabre a young lad there who was constantly happy and willing to do anything for you!

Beach is beautiful, very limited space as each hotel has it's own space! The sea is nice and warm too!

Tunisia itself is fun, get a taxi into the marina in the port (pay no more than 3Dinars). Also grab a taxi to Sousse Medina and go to the National Shop to get beautiful jewellery and gifts for people! It's government run so if it says the necklace is gold you know it is!

The men will try and get you int their shops, but they're no harm, it's how they make their money, be polite but firm and say no and they will leave you be! However never allow a woman to walk the roads on their own!

Outside the hotel on the left is the Hawaii shopping mall which is fixed price and hassle free. Also on the right there is the Miami shopping centre which is also fixed price and hassle free! However haggling is fun, you can get some real bargains so don't be afraid to try your luck at haggling in the little shops!

Out of the hotel to the left is a cafe called Sunflower, do not give this place a miss! Super tasty burgers and chips or paninis and sandwiches and so ridiculously cheap!

Be careful with your money, you can only change it back to English at the Tunisian airport and only if you keep all the receipts you get from changing it to Dinar!
To avoid all this hassle I change small amounts as and when I need it in the hotel. This means no over spending and no worries!

Over all Tunisia is hot and beautiful and I've been here twice now! I can not fault the Royal Kenz, it to me definitely deserves it's spot at number one!

Please message for any further enquiries about Tunisia/Royal Kenz

Just returned from the Kenz they have struggled with the change from 1/2 board to all inclusive but i think they have finally cracked it. Restaurant is now go any time sit anywhere and it has reduced the problems previously found in the dinning room. We were sorry to see the French alacart has gone but the food in the dinning room was good enough.

My first holiday abroad so I decided to go back to Tunisia. Not been to royal kenz before but it was everything you would expect from a Tunisian hotel. Spotless everywhere, staff very friendly without being overbearing. Food was lovely, restaurant was huge. I had booked a single room and it turned out to be a massive twin room, balcony was small but big enough for a table and two chairs.
The beach was a bit of a walk but well worth it, again the staff were lovely and friendly especially faycal who sold the canal trips etc. as I was on my own he went out of his way to make me feel like I wasn't alone.
I really didn't want to come home and will most definitely go back, Infact I can't wait!!!

We’ve recently returned from a relaxing 10 days holiday at the Royal Kenz 19th/30th June, travelling as a couple.

We were lucky as we didn’t have to queue at security/passport control when we arrived in Tunisia, like so many others did. The coach transfer was roughly 35 minutes and we were the 1st drop off of 3 hotels. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised, as there were a lot of different ages staying at this hotel. We were greeted with a red carpet, music and dancing from the entertainment team. We proceeded into the reception are where we received welcome drinks and a quick and easy check-in. Before going to our room we changed some currency to dinars and enquired about the safety deposit box in our room, which discovered we had to pay 40 dinars for! This is a rip off as all the rooms have them, I’ve never had to pay for a box anywhere I’ve stayed before.

Our room was on the 1st floor at the back of the hotel overlooking the gardens and swimming pool. It was clean and spacious, tea/coffee making facilities, cleaned daily with fresh towels and wasn’t noisy so very happy.

FOOD: The dining room is huge, there is a choice of food for everyone, it’s varied to start with and then can get a bit boring but you just need to use your imagination. The buffet hall could be bigger as there was a lot of queuing for hot food at times, so food gets cold quickly. The salads were also good and I don’t normally eat deserts on holiday but they were good (especially the chocolate mousse and variety of ice cream) We used the snack bar for lunch which has a menu you can order from and waiter service for a change. You can eat once at the Indian and Italian restaurant which were pleasant enough for a change. We had an exceptional meal at Le Mediterranee overlooking the marina (5 dinar in taxi) would definitely recommend as was reasonably priced there are also bars and tourist shops. MEN MUST WEAR LONG TROUSERS FOR DINNER.

DRINKS: The drinks could be better. The Beer is weak and doesn’t taste of much, it’s served in small plastic glasses by the pool or half pints inside/terrace bar with massive beer heads but they will top up for you if asked. The queues for the bar can be very long as they only use a very small portion of the bar and have one or two barman serving, in the evening they have cocktails but we found the majority of them had too much juice in them rather than alcohol. The wine was like vinegar. The Gin or Vodka were best, unfortunately a lot of the mixers/soft drinks we warm and flat. There is an American bar where you can pay for drinks, this might be better but we didn’t try it as what’s the point in All Inclusive!

POOL/BEACH: The biggest problem this hotel has is the lack of sunbeds especially around the two outdoor pools, you have to be up at 6.30/7am every morning to reserve one otherwise by the time you’ve had breakfast there’s nothing left unless it’s a change over day! The pool areas are clean, with well-maintained gardens. It takes 5 minutes to walk to the beach, entrance at the back of the hotel. It was clean but had a lot of seaweed at times, it has fine golden sand and you can walk for miles.

EVENINGS: There was a shortage of chairs in the outside seating area, unfortunately the entertainment on the terrace was poor and lacked atmosphere. The entertainment team had a schedule of their own each night and worked hard.

We decided to tip the staff a few Dinah here and there they all work extremely hard and wages are low. Everything in Tunisia was cheap as it’s a closed currency so change a little money at a time as you can’t take it with you.

On our return we took the reps advice and booked the VIP – DON’T bother as its really not worth the money, they give it the hard sell as they obviously get commission.

We didn’t do any of the trips so can’t comment, there were all age groups staying here but it’s not for young children they’ll be bored, nothing to entertain them.

To sum it up – we enjoyed it, the weather was glorious, met some lovely people. Wouldn’t return as there are so many other places to visit.
