Just returned from a fortnight's holiday at the Mitos with my partner. After reading some of the negative reviews on here we were a bit nervous about staying there but in general it was fine. We had a few complaints but overall we found it good value for money. I'll outline what we liked about it first and then list what we didn't like so much.
It's a fairly basic, small hotel but is very clean and the staff are mainly helpful and friendly. The rooms and balcony are very large and the restaurant/bar is slightly better than average in our opinion. The swimming pool area was small but fine although we only used it once as the pool was absolutely freezing (I'd imagine that would be a good thing in the later months but in May it wasn't that hot). The sea was a lot warmer. Location-wise it is actually outside of Alanya town (in an area called Oba) which is still a fairly touristy area with lots of shops and restaurants. You can walk into Alanya in about 30-40 mins or alternatively get a bus for approx £0.50 (bus stop is 2 mins walk from hotel and buses are very frequent, we used this a lot). The beach is again 2 mins away and it is cheap to hire a sun lounger/parasol for the day. The beach is a bit rocky, however, at parts.
Things that put us off the hotel slightly:
1) The cleaning/maid service was very sporadic. For the first 3 days we had no-one come in. Then they came every day for a while and then every second day and then back to every 3rd day. I don't mind every second day but I thought 3 was a bit much as we ran out of toilet paper a couple of times.
2) About 4 days in to our stay we were asked to change rooms as they wanted to paint the one we were in. We had no choice and had to move immediately to the room upstairs. The staff helped us carry our stuff but it was a bit of a nuisance having to "up and leave" when we had unpacked and settled in.
3) Hotel was advertised as self-catering but the facilities were pretty poor. In the first room we were in all we had was a fridge and kettle and a sink. No kitchen bin. Once we got moved upstairs there was a bin and a "plug in hob thing" but we never used it.
4) It was very cold in bed on our first night as all they had provided us with was a thin sheet. There were no blankets in the room. We had to ask twice before someone got us one.
5) The hotel is fairly noisy - between other guests in the corridor, staff on the roof above and, strangely, the kitchen staff (very loud) who we could hear clearly even though we were on the top floor - as there was a vent that ran all the way from the ground floor up to our kitchen area. There was also strong cooking smells from the kitchen which wafted up in the evening and was a bit over-powering at times.
6) Basic silly little things like no soap dish and no towel rail in the bathroom. Shower was ok but pretty weak and hard to control the temperature.
7) Position of the restaurant. We noticed a lot of the reviews had mentioned this and were a bit worried about the staff hassling us as you have to walk through the restaurant to exit/enter the hotel. We had no intention of eating there every night as we like to try different places out. This is why we booked self-catering and not half or full board. We found the staff to be ok though, they tried in a friendly way to get you to eat there but they weren't pushy or rude. We ended up eating there 3 times in total and found the food quite nice. It was a bit over-priced and had much the same menu as most other places - pasta, tex-mex, pizza, steaks and kebabs. We found the food to be great quality every where we ate and the waiters were always friendly. The Mitos waiters (like most of the others in Alanya) can be a bit chatty and interupt your meal to talk a lot. This didn't really bother us but it might do some people.
So overall, we wouldn't particularly recommend the hotel but we wouldn't recommend against it either. As long as you don't expect a 5 star hotel with good self-catering facilities in the centre of Alanya then you should get on ok :-)
