“"Chelsea" family”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

We got back from turkey today after 2 weeks at the Melas! What a great holiday my dad, his wife, my daughter and I had! Excellent accommodation, food was good plenty to choose from, hotel kept very clean inside and out, very polite staff throughout the hotel. Hotel is in such a great location. The animation team were fantastic, they actually made our holiday, we went to the beach party, pool party and my daughter went to the mini disco every night, the staff go to so much effort! In particular Antonio and his wife and Serkan (O.M.G!!) They were so kind to my daughter and came over for a chat every morning, they all named my Dad "Chelsea" because of his tattoo, which made there be a good bit of banter going! Always activities going on around the pool from first thing in the morning til late afternoon, great shows and performances put on every night. We hope to return to the Melas next year in hope that the current animation team will be there in 2015 for another great holiday!!

Having never been to Turkey we were very unsure what to expect, also reading some of the mixed reviews on here we were even more nervous.....we needn't have been!!
Seriously amazed by the negative reviews and very sad that those people did not have the same experience our family and the friends we made out there had.
I will break my review down into bits that I was wanting to know about the most.

Transfer from airport: Just over 20 mins

Arrival at hotel: Spectacular! Bellboys take your luggage from you and deliver to your room. A welcome cocktail is brought to you in the breathtaking reception area. Very quick and very easy check in.

Rooms: We had a family room with side sea view. It was huge. Lovely decor, lovely beds. TV in each room. Mini bar replenished daily. Loads of storage space. Lovely bathroom with jacuzzi bath. Shampoo/soap/shower gel replenished daily if used. Hair dryer in bathroom. Safe in main bedroom. Air conditioning in both rooms with separate controls. Small airer on balcony for drying clothes. Maid service every day and what a lovely maid she was....loads of little features made on our beds...a nice touch and unlike other reviews we were NEVER asked for a tip from our maid (or anyone for that matter). So clean it was unreal.

Pool: Spotless, lovely big pool and 3 slides....ok they are small in comparison to other hotels but out party managed fine with 3 boys 15, 14 & 9 and we were told this is undergoing improvement in the winter months? Water always clean. Steps and entry to pool safe...edges of pool all safe and intact. again ridiculously clean and there are pool attendants continuously going round collecting rubbish left by those too lazy to get up and take it to the bins themselves. That was so annoying seeing adults getting drinks...entering the pool and just dumping half empty glasses allover...would hate to see how some of these people live at home!!
Music is on all day round the pool and whilst not to everyones taste its bearable.

Food: We found the food superb, clean served nicely and plenty of choice. I have seen other reviews stating you can't get a full English breakfast which is true but...could a Turkish person get a full Turkish breakfast in England?? We were in Turkey and didn't expect to eat exactly how we could at home. Our kids loved the pancakes, the eggs, the fresh bread. Lunch times you could eat at the pool bar, the main restaurant or the beach bar. all served lovely chicken, salads, everything you could imagine it just depended what you wanted. The beach bar was lovely and did beautiful pizzas and chicken wraps to order but it was very hot down there. The pool bar had a smaller menu with burgers, salads, jacket potatoes, chicken and was great when the kids didn't want to leave the pool. The main restaurant had a huge selection and of course was lovely and cool.
On an evening we found 8pm to be the busiest time so left it til around 8.30pm and it was fine. Any later than 9pm and the selection wasn't as good. we did try the Fish restaurant with great anticipation but were very disappointed...there was a choice of only 4 dishes and very limited. The location was beautiful but very nervy with kids up there even at the age ours were. The Turkish restaurant was much nicer food and selection but unfortunately it was like an oven in there and some of us left before dessert because of the heat in there. shame as tyne rest of the hotel was cool and pleasant.

Facilities: Spa was beautiful, 2 of us had a massage and it was lovely. We had a little look around but didn't actually do the hamam as we thought it was too expensive and were put off when the price started at 70 euros and dropped to 45 euros in seconds then heard the next guests along being told starting price was 80 euros. Nobody likes to feel they are being ripped off and this was one such occasion where we just weren't sure. The rest of the spa was free to use and was lovely.
There were 2 jewellers a mini market a bag shop and a clothes shop. Everything was priced in Euros which we found odd but if you asked to pay in turkish Lira that was fine.

Night time: Whilst there we went to the pool party, beach party and garden party and all were great fun with so much work going into them.
each evening starts off the same with mini disco which ours didn't go to but if we had younger children I would have struggled with this as 95% of the songs were in German, which is fine if your German but the kids wouldn't have had a clue what they were singing. All of the animation team work hard to make everyones night as fun as possible and Oscar is just a legend...so funny and so good at speaking in several languages.
They all try so hard...which leads me on to the whole animation team....from top to bottom regardless of what language they can or can't speak they are all so lovely, so pleasant and just simply want to please. Not once did any one of them indicate they wanted a tip....that they were poor or that they were only taking an interest in us for their gain. Ezgi and Antonio went out of their way too help us in ways over and above what they got paid to do. They both look amazing and obviously take pride in themselves as do all of the animation team, Ali, Serkan, Yalcin, I feel EVERY member of animation deserve huge recognition for the energy and fun they put into the daytime and night time activities. We saw a lot of mention about an English rep called Taz and looked forward to meeting her but she had left before we got there.
you can't please all of the people all of the time and some people are beyond pleasing and that is just how it is. We can honestly say we made stronger bonds with some staff than others but did not meet one single member of the whole hotel staff who were not pleasant helpful and polite and that is something we can say hand on heart we have never ever come across in all our years of holidaying.

Overall if you want a relaxing break in a spotlessly clean hotel which serves fantastic food and drink literally 24/7 you won't go wrong going to the Melas Lara. It has been an amazing holiday which ended with us all in tears so sad to be leaving. We have met great people of all nationalities and would absolutely love to come back.
Well done Melas Lara...keep doing what your doing because what you do is superb and much love and thanks to every member of the animation team, we loved spending some funny funny times with you all!!!

The hotel is outstanding! I would advise this to anyone as it is suitable for all ages.

Rooms:
We stayed in a standard room and it was a reasonable size. There was plenty of storage for all your belongings. They were spotless and cleaned everyday. Inside the room was a mini bar that was filled regularly with fresh drinks. The balcony was overlooking a lovely view of the pool and the beach. The beach towels that you are given are a brilliant idea, it saves weight on your suitcase.

Entertainment/Animation:
Overall the team were very welcoming, they made everyone involved and were easy to get along with. We made good friends with Ezgi and Antonio, they were very friendly and I believe they should be recognised for all the hard work they put in towards the guests. They were very enthusiastic towards there job and made it a pleasure for us to stay in the hotel. There are a variety of sports for you to get involved in (water polo, step aerobics, darts, football) they are extremely enjoyable. You also get to meet some lovely people.

Restaurant:
They was plenty of foods to choice from. Well spaced out and lots of seating. Very clean too.

Pool/beach:
More sun beds are needed for the amount of people in the hotel as it is a very popular hotel. If you wanted a sun bed you would have to get up as early as 6/7 for a bed around the pool. Although there are sun beds on the grass area, so you would never not have a sun bed.

Wifi/reception:
The reception is well set out and easy to get used to. The people on the desk are helpful. We did have a slight problem with the wifi as it kept logging out and not allowing us to log back in but that is just a minor problem really.

Garden/area:
The garden is well groomed and they are working on it at all times, it makes the Hotel look a nicer complex. If you walk about 5-10 minutes down the road there are a variety of shops that you could go to but they are just the same as what's in the hotel so there's no need to go out.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and will be coming back in the future! Thank you for the pleasant stay.

Have just had two weeks total rest six weeks after major knee surgery.
We chose here as we came last year.
Teenage boys had room next door & loved there freedom to make friends with all the kids from different countries. All loved the disco for the icing on the cake.

Made fantastic friends with Antonio ezgi Oscar.
Daniel superstar made their lives very full & fun for them all to work with & build a unforgettable friendship.
All the staff within the hotel work so hard.
The place was spotless food better than last year but sadly German attitudes still bad.
Most ignorant to the staff which I find disgusting.
Manners cost nothing !!
All those I met were very friendly even though I couldn't talk their language !!
I even got them pole dancing round my crutch !!
Beech pool & garden activities were brilliant as all acts ( apart from Sunday nights singer who sounded like my nan in the bath )
We all had the best holiday again !!
Thank you Melasssssssssssss!!!!!

Just returned from a two week stay at melas hotel arrived on the 26th August . On our arrival we were welcomed with a drink and the bell boy took all our luggage to our room, the only disappointment we had was that there was only two beds in the room and there was three of us we had paid adult price for my partners son who is 14, straight away they put another bed in but this was a fold up bed so we wasn't really happy we spoke to reception who showed us another room but we had to pay an extra £700 for our two week stay not a chance so we saw the rep who said it was because we had booked a twin room so please be aware if u are booking. The holiday was really nice get up early if u want a bed round the pool because yes the towels are out !!!
The food was excellent lots of choice and the staff were really helpful and
work really hard. The most upsetting thing that happened during our stay was the hotel getting rid of TAZ she is such a lovely person and didn't deserve this, she worked so hard and always chatted to everyone she will be a great loss to this hotel . The two people that need to be going is posh and becks all she did was prance about trying to look beautiful swaying her long locks and both pleading to the guests how poor they are this is not what u want to here on your holiday a hope the hotel manger reads this because it's true this was witnessed on many occasions. Aydin and oscar were brilliant, two lovely people who worked so hard and made our holiday Aydin especially we think he is great,so good at there jobs best two people there now would have been three but sadly they have let her go.

Room Tip: Sea or pool view .
