I stayed in Erdem on my own, from 13 to 20 September 2013. The location is good, close to the beach, the size of the room was adequate. The first 2 nights I spent in a room facing the sea AND the boulevard between the beach and the hotel; the noise from the traffic was unbearable all night long. Then I moved to a room facing the back and the noise level from the road dropped considerably.
The bathroom was dirty to begin with, as I moved in (in both rooms). Everything was dirty: the sink, the shower, the taps, the waste bin and the floor. The shower head was broken, the soap dispenser was empty, the tooth mug was filthy and there were clumps of long, black hair in the bathroom and on the bedroom floor. This has not been cleaned throughout my stay, despite my requests. The cleaners, when they came, just folded the bedspread - that was all the evidence I could see of their visit. The toilet kept breaking down and not flushing, but it was eventually fixed after a couple of days. One day, mid-week, the cleaners didn't come at all and the receptionist's attitude was: it will be done tomorrow. When I refused to accept it, some time in the evening a man came and attempted to clean the room, fixed a different shower head and filled the soap dispenser. This bathroom, however, needed more than just a quick fix.
A male receptionist was persistently over-familiar with me and made me feel uncomfortable.
The tiny lift kept breaking down and on the last morning I had to carry my suitcases down the stairs from the 3rd floor.
There is a pleasant restaurant on the top floor, with a lovely terrace and some Turkish-style cushioned floor seats. Breakfast was a simple, but perfectly nice and fresh fare, and the staff there were pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, my room was directly underneath the kitchen and every morning from 6 am somebody wearing hard-heeled shoes on a stone floor went click-clacking around, thus making sure I never got enough sleep. If it wasn't heavy traffic, it was tap-dancing overhead.
There is not much English spoken by any of the staff, so the complaints, such as they were, were never really totally understood. After a while, one just gives up.
Some parts of the hotel are old and crumbling (bathrooms, lift) while the hotel is clearly expanding - there were building works in progress on the ground floor.
Altogether, for the price, it could have been a very pleasant stay, if only the management addressed the hygiene, noise and attitude problems.
