“Great stay with very nice staff”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

Was there with my family, including a 1 year old boy. The staff was extremely friendly and did all to help us out with all kinds of tasks that arose. The food was very fine and the surroundings was very nice. The hotel was very cozy with rooms in different sizes.

Stayed here October 2013. Arrangements made by Bonita travel. The brochure showed a very nice boutique hotel but pictures are deceiving. The room we were given was run down. TV did not work. Asked them to fix it every day and nothing was done. Bathroom door locked itself and I couldn't get in. The dark haired receptionist was rude and unhelpful. I complained to the tour agent but got no help. He said we would have to pay more to move so I stayed. Very noisy. Much better hotels nearby. I would not stay again.

We were staying in Antalya for a extended weekend and was browsing for a hotel close to old town and had some to choose from. Argos seemed to be a good choise so we booked a 4-night, pre-payed stay. Arriving late at night we weren´t really greated by anyone although there was lots of staff, and their friends, hanging around, some slumped over in the couches and on the bar stools. Nobody, and I mean that with no exception, spoke a word of English! They were just flabergasted by us arriving at all and on the matter of us having booked a room and maybe wanted a key for that room was an almost impossible task for the dozed-off staff.
Finally we got installed in the room by our own efforts. Morning came and breakfast was waiting. And boy, did we wait! Some sliced melon, a few pieces of feta cheese, maybe a slice of old toast and instant coffey... And then the staff helped themselfs to the meager buffet that then wasn´t replenished. So, ladies and gentlemen, if you are choosing Argos make sure you set your alarm clock so you at least get a chance of dunking stale bread into instant coffey before the staff helps themselfes.
This place could have been a gem but it is sadly misstreated and abused. The location is super and the rooms are pretty decent but the rest...You have been duely warned.

My wife and I stayed at the Argos in early October 2013, and travelled with a group of friends. We booked half board, thinking it would be a good deal.

The location is really nice. We loved being in the old city of Antalya, just a short walk from Paul's Steps and down to the harbour where the pirate ships are located (definitely go on a pirate ship cruise if you get a chance).

There isn't a lift, so disabled people watch out! We had a lovely room overlooking the swimming pool. Bed was firm and comfortable. Daily cleaning, with nice touches of decoration on our bed each day. Ensuite was fine - nice shower, marble everywhere. We had a quiet room - some other rooms were woken by the call to prayer and disco music if they were on the roadside. Best room seems to be the corner on the first floor - views over the water as well as the pool.

Food - breakfast was typical Turkish buffet breakfast with salad leaves, tomatoes, bread, boiled eggs (sometimes scrambled), yoghurt, tea, coffee etc. Very pleasant - arrive early if you want warm eggs. Evening meal was one of the highlights/jokes of our trip - you never knew what you would get - it's a sit down meal, no choice, the staff just bring out your soup, salad, main, and a piece of fruit in steady succession! One evening we had lovely kofte (a bit like hand made small chubby beefburgers/meatballs) with rice and salad, the next night we had a weird soup followed by ANOTHER soup with pasta on the side, one other night we had chickpeas in a tomato soup wit a lump of chicken breast. So, most nights we ate out, but if you fancy a laugh, and don't mind something tasty/weird then eat in. Drinks aren't cheap at the hotel.

Service: The men at the hotel were pleasant and friendly, with little English. The male receptionist/manager was the nicest, and seemed to be there all hours of the day or night. The woman receptionist wasn't friendly, and charged our room for some wine which we didn't have (we didn't drink any alcohol there at all). The guys who clean and do everything else including food prep were great, and I think they are a credit to the hotel.

The pool is tiny, about 5 metres (15 feet) across. Freezing cold in October, but I went in every day to be refreshed. The sunlight in October isn't the same as in the summer, but we had very little sunbathing time due to the shade caused by the hotel and surrounding buildings. One guest recommended getting on the tram, going to the end of the line, and sunbathing there at the beach for 5TL a bed. (Tram is only 2TL I think)

Overall, I would stay there again, simply because the location is in the old city, 5 minutes from the tram/Hadrian's gate, 50 metres from the Turkish Bath, 5 minutes from the harbour. Pay everything in cash, don't charge to your room, or they could overcharge you.

Room Tip: Quiet rooms are on the pool side of the hotel - great view out of top floor corner window to the Med...

Our room (103) was very small even though we booked superior. It wasnt not a twin or on the top floor as we had requested. The female receptionist was not too helpful and we just accepted. Cleaning was regular and staff fine but a little distant. It is reasonable value at the bottom end of the market. There did seem to be cheaper options available locally.
Breakfast fine but not varied on a long stay.

This traditional hotel is a bit run-down and is understaffed.

It's a great location in the centre of the old town within easy walking distance of the harbour and the town centre. It's accessible by taxi but not our tour bus.

Our room was near the pool. It was a reasonable size, with only a small bathroom (good shower though) and dark as we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. The towels were clean but a bit tatty. Wifi was free and worked well in the room and the common areas.

Dinner was disappointing and there was only a limited selection at the buffet breakfast. Service was friendly but the hotel is badly understaffed. One guy seemed to be responsible for everything - at least preparing dinner, serving drinks (at the same time) and cleaning the rooms.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms under the dining room - you will be woken early as the staff lays out the buffet breakfa...

I stayed alone at the Argos Hotel and found it welcoming and a good experience.

The staff were friendly and professional. While the lady who has been mentioned in previous reviews was perhaps not the warmest member of staff, I did not encounter any problems as a single woman traveller.

My room was large, had a comfy bed and good sized bath room. There was air conditioning, the safe was fixed in position and secure, not movable as some other reviews suggest. My room was clean, if a little dusty under the desk, but in the bathroom and main floor areas it was fine.

The pool area is well maintained and there are new sun loungers by the pool. However, the pool is quite small, so not suited to serious swimmers!

The breakfast is a decent buffet, but very much in the Turkish style. Don't expect a cooked breakfast. I also paid for dinner, but would not recommend this. There was no menu and I had to ask to find out what was available. Each evening there was soup, bread and a main, followed by fruit. The meals were hit and miss, and given the quality of meals available at low places locally I would recommend staying only on a bed and breakfast basis.

The location of the hotel is great. It's a short walk from the beach and harbour, as well as being easy to get to the modern part of town.

If you book the Argos, remember this is a traditional Turkish hotel and not a five star modern complex. If you keep this in mind, you should be happy, but avoid the dinner service!
