Reviewed 25 November 2012

After spending our 7th visit here from 3rd -17th November we were left with some wonderful memories of our stay and would whole heartedly recommend November time in the Antalya region. We had some superb weather, hotter than we could have hoped for and the couple of off days when we had cloud/sun nor the one day when we had a real downpour did not dampen our spirits. If your 5 star Ultra All Inclusive then it is not an hardship and the entertainment during the day although low key is brought indoors. The Cinema shows a daily film in English and then in German and you can use the table tennis, play darts, etc or just relax with a book, use the indoor heated pool, gym, spa or simply do nothing.

ROOM
We had a room upgrade when we arrived but we had to ask to be moved as it was next door to the room my late father had when we took him there and to many raw memories. We wanted to be in the main building anyway as we had expected it might be chilly walking back there in the evenings but actually it was very pleasant. We got a new key at 4pm on the next day and loved the location of our new room 1125. We do not spend alot of time in the room and the standard room was more than adequate for our needs. The room was spotlessly clean and was kept so for the duration of our stay and we had lovely fresh linen most days .It was a side seaview room away from the Kervansary side and it was perfect and so handy being able to pop back to the room if need be.The mini bar was well stocked daily and a note to ask for diet cola was noted and we got that everyday. The Residence / Junior Suite area is great in summer but they closed the Turunc snack bar after 2 days and feel we would have felt isolated. We did have a lovely lunch there at the Turunc on our first day.

FOOD
Food is subjective I know but all but one person we spoke to found it to be of a very good standard and a Scottish lady a frequent traveller to Turkey said it was some of the best they have had .One person said Ann I am going to upset you as the beef was tough this evening, but I said there must have been at least 20 other meat dishes to choose but she said but we wanted beef. Still not not sure why I would be upset by this. We love the hotel but everyone is entitled to form their own opinion .I think maybe it was a mistake posting my travel dates on the forum as it leaves you wide open to this and I may be a DE who loves the Barut Lara hotel but on holiday I am just an holidaymaker like everyone else. One lady thought I was actually on a paid for holiday!! lol I wish !!
Now back to the food, I was reading the latest review which sums this up this nicely. Meat is very expensive in Turkey as is Fuel, Electricity and imported Alcohol. Some hotels have to cut back on meat during winter when people are actually paying very little per night to stay there. The Barut lara does not make drastic cut backs and there is always lots of tasty meat, veal, fish, chicken, turkey and casserole type dishes to try.
The Al a Cartes did go on to a reduced winter menu during our stay but they still had plenty of choice. I had a lamb shank on my last evening which fell off the bone and was delicious, my husband had Fillet Mignons. How much would you pay for that in a restaurant here plus we had starters and dessert and wine with our meal, we could have had special coffee etc to?
We were overjoyed to be able to dine on the very last Al a carte BBQ evening of the season and loved it there and we were sat outside in November with no need for a cardi etc. My husband cooked the food and it was lovely, the steak melted in your mouth. You could help yourself to salad, bread and potato wedges etc and the waiter brought drinks. We left really happy to have tried this after hearing about it from other TA members. We also went to the Turkish Al a Carte 3 times during our stay and the food was lovely and although the lamb from the clay oven was not on the menu we found other food that was equally lovely. So filling though so we had a light lunch when going there. At lunch time the food courts shut early on during our stay but the beach Restaurant serving cooked to order food was open and of course you could dine in the main buffet Restaurant and even at lunch time there was an excellent choice of food. As always service was brilliant in all areas. We saw many staff who now know us having been so many times who love to speak about their children and show photo's on their phone and several told us that they are now married. Some speak excellent English others less but we find you get there in the end.
The food standard did not slip in the second week as was stated in one review. All the Al a cartes were inclusive and no restrictions. The Sofa and Akdeniz will be open all winter and we were told the Turkish would close at the end of November.
The pancakes/crepes served daily at the pattiserie late afternoon were a great hit with guests. The carte dor style ice cream is now available until later than previously and still many lovely flavours to try.

DRINKS
This is where the Barut Lara cannot be beaten with everything imagineable included, even sparkling wine/ champagne and the house wines are of a decent quality. Every spirit you could wish for is included, even in winter.Even the swanky and very beautiful Delphin Imperial could not comptete in winter with charges for many of the more select and expensive imported drinks, although they had the bottled beers just the same.I will be reviewing our stay there to.
We found service was excellent and of course they soon remember your tipple and replenish without asking ! We enjoyed sitting at the bar early evening for pre-dinner drinks and late afternoon and enjoyed some great banter with the staff. I also was back at the bar most mornings well before 7am for my morning lattee with a tot in for my throat as all the chatting and laughing dried my throat. Some mornings I would have a stroll and then go for breakfast but towards the second week a friend joined me and we left our partners in bed !
The beach bar was still open daily.

STAFF
The staff at the Barut Lara go that extra mile to make sure your every whim is catered for and those that say otherwise must realise that yes they may seem nicer to some but you get back what you give ten fold.Try being nice and pleasant .When you see how some people are demanding then you do feel for them, although this does not seem common place at the Barut Lara. I think the comments not just in this hotel but others that they give better service to the Germans for example is not true at all and some people ought to take the chip off their shoulder ! We get nothing but excellent service in all the hotels we stay at with maybe an odd grumpy person. I heard moans of this at the Airport coming home from people staying at other hotels !!

Special mention to Teoman our very special friend of 7 years who we have watched grow from a trainee to an excellent barman, Husayn at the pool bar who is always lovely to us and how they remember your names is amazing. Ferdi at the main bar, a really lovely guy and always smiling. Serhat is a nice guy and a new barman this holiday but one who provided loads of fun ( but where is the ice !! ) and he speaks great English. Orhan in the Akdeniz who is always cheerful and has the biggest smile ever ! He has just got married so even happier ! The lovely waitresses in the lobby are great and also the guys and special mention to hali at the pool bar who is so funny and a great sense of humour.
The Guest Services are a lovely bunch of girls and want you to enjoy your stay. The reception staff were warm and helpful at all times.
I would love to thank everyone by name for all the excellent service we had but would be here all day.

ANIMATION
Well we usually do not spend much time with them other than at crazy games time at midday but this holiday we did spend more time with them and the team here do not change every season like other hotels and they are a great bunch of people. We do have a soft spot for Nuri, who likes to learn English and he has a wicked sense of humour. "All right mate " We love Derya who has been there since we first stayed there and always lovely to all. Dodi and Martinez we talked to more this visit and they are both great guys.Martinez may break a few hearts next season as he is married now girls !!! Yes we could not believe it either!! He has his wifes name tattoo'ed on the inside of his lip ! Bakit as usual is lovely and now a daddy. katie a new animator is such a lovely happy girl. We think Hakan has now settled in and made some changes for the better, like having live music in the lobby bar and the animation display some great dancing of an evening and mix with everyone young and old..Slight downside is the smokers terrace is off the bar area and when the doors are opened the smoke drifts in to the bar/dance area. Altan the teen animator in summer is a great guy and was enjoying some time doing other things after an hectic summer with as many as 60 teens per week he said. He made the holiday for our elderly friend as he would always dance with her every evening.Ramaz clearly is the best dancer and I could watch him dance all night.

ENTERTAINMENT
We only went to one show a new one The Cuban Acrobatic show which was wonderful and well worth going to. It was their first evening there and what a show they gave. More dance and acrobatic but a talented group of young people. We did go to the Karaoke evening in the night club and it was lively with some half decent singers but spoilt by the the same people hogging the mic. However they did provide much amusement but maybe for the wrong reasons !

GROUNDS/ POOLS
The grounds are immaculate and gardeners deserve praise and they are always tending to the grass and borders. What was a surprise was how green the grass was after the scorching summer and more lush compared to at Easter The golf buggy was still in operation during our stay. The Barut Lara still has the best grounds with all the open space in the Lara area !
A special mention to the lovely towel hut lady.
The first pool was heated and some people were using it early mornings. The hoist/ lift in to the pool is very useful for those less able bodied

GUESTS
We met some lovely people from other Countries during our stay and the general guest structure was lovely. We never experienced any barging in and everyone in general was very pleasant.
We had some lovely evenings chatting to some lovely people we met there. On our friends 79th birthday we dined with them to celebrate at the Akdeniz.A lovely young German couple joined us and they helped make her birthday special along with the animation team who made a fuss of her.We met a lovely lady from Venna who was with her husband to visit their adult daughter who is a pianist at the Fame hotel in Lara. She was interested in all things British and a professor of English and loves to spend time over here. There were plenty of brits there to! Not many children at this time of year.

SUMMARY
We noticed many many repeat guests and lots of them are long stay guests during winter and you see them greeting each other as new guests arrive. We can see why they would spend winter in a lovely warm environment and we would love to do the same ourselves when my husband retires.
We did need mozzie repellent as we got a few bites which seemed to happen after we had the rain.We certainly needed suncream.

To keep the room after midday is 5 Euro's and hour in winter compared to10 Euro's in summer which includes Easter time. We kept ours for 4 hours and well worth it as it was so hot and saved using the courtesy room which is excellent but nicer to have been able to keep the room on.
For those worried about their baggage allowance being over there the limit there is a huge scales for weighing baggage in the luggage storage room, the bell boys will weigh them for you.The rep on our pick up bus said she had heard that they now charge 15 Euro per kilo excess.
The 1G of free internet was sufficent to do my daily updates and keep in touch with family.
Looking forward to our 8th stay ASAP !
Thanks to the BARUT LARA for another superb holiday !!

Room Tip: Rooms on the side away from the kervansay hotel are best and get mid afternoon sun.

Four of us have just come back from The Barut Lara after a short break for my birthday. We have stayed at 6 other hotels in the area but this was far better than the others... Great and very pleasant staff. Good entertainment which you dont get in the other hotels in the area. Great choice of food which was always hot and repetative. We were upgraded for free and were very happy with the rooms and the extras that arent available in the other hotels on the strip. Music player, DVD player. wide screen TV.. There was a fruit bowl brought in and a bottle of bubbly from the management for my birthday. The hotel is advertised as ultra all inclusive which meant international drinks which were good measures and plentiful. We never had to wait more than 4 5 mins for a waiter to serve us.. The ala carte restaurants were offered free of charge but there was ample choice in the main di ning room so we chose to eat there every night. The Asian chinese night was very good as were the choices of sweets, breads and cheeses..,. There was also a good choice of meat at all meals. Something lacking in other Hotels on the strip...due to the cost of meat in Turkey now. The indoor pool. therapy and gymnasium areas are very well equiped... The bedrooms were very comfortable. It was nice to have quilts that werent too small for the beds. The staff in this hotel couldnt have been better from the management down. The entertainment staff everyone... We checked out of the rooms early but were told that we could stay in the hotel as long a we wanted and make use of all the facilities.. We will go back.....

Room Tip: We were happy with the room we were given so couldnt comment on what would be a better room

On arrival we were given a residence, the bell boy pointed out the room numbers to us and 2 more couples..we were left to find it ourselves. The bedroom door handle was on the floor..the lights in bedroom were broken however it was dealt with quickly. We had e-mailed the hotel prior to arrival to ask for a room with sun in afternoon..never saw sun on our terrace at all.
The room and some others areas are showing their age.
The first week the food was excellent, in the second week standard dropped.
However, the staff were lovely and the animation team do a wonderful job.
We met some lovely German, Dutch and fellow Scots guests and enjoyed all the fun and good times with them, also a lovely foursome from Liverpool.
The cathouse is a joy to vist..went most days and the 2 resident dogs in very good condition.
Thallasso pool was much enjoyed..10 euro per person for 15 mins.
We had 2 trips to Antalya on the hotel bus..well worth a vist, Old town is so pretty and it got us out of the hotel.
The show staged by Animation team on our last night was amazing..such clever, talented young people.
My last night was ruined by a very nasty altercation by another TA member, left me going home with great relief..THIS was not the fault of the hotel.
I dont think we will go back

Room Tip: Garden rooms are quiet

We visited Barut Lara Resort Spa and Suites from 22/010/12 for 7 days and booked a Junior Suite. Upon our arrival we were informed because we were a suite guest we have our conceige staff coming along to show us around and to take a seat. 15 minutes we were just left waiting without explanation. When the Conceige person arrived her English was very limited and was unable to explain fully what we were been shown, this tour lasted another 25 minutes. When we eventually reached our room, we felt the room spec was very poor for the price we paid. Very Ikea furniture. The bathroom was lovely though. The beds were extremely hard and the pillows were terrible. But we did find that we had a pillow menu, but it took 4 phone calls to Reception as their English was very poor. When the pillows arrived they were the wrong type, another few phone calls to Reception and more pillows arriving at our door, the same ones as before! When we showed the porter the picture of the pillow we required (he too spoke no English) he just said no. We gave up. The lamp in our room was ripped and broken the the floor was really dirty and was never washed during our time there.

The food and speciality Restaurants were good though and the cleanliness around the hotel was good. The hotel grounds were beautiful. The entertainment in the evening was extremely poor. They did have a show each evening though and were quite good, but after 10.15 pm that was it, nothing to do. There was one bar which they placed the most awful music you could imagine and the entertainment team forcing people to get up and danced to YMCA in full bright lights with no mood lights or dance lights. It was so boring in the evenings we often went there for something to watch. The entertainment team were far over the top, which bordered on false. The were very friendly with some people and would ignore others, not even smiling or saying hello when they passed you.

All in all the hotel should not be ranked number 1 in Antalya, we have been to a number of other hotels in Antalya and Belek and would not return to this hotel.

Lastly if you are English you will be the miniority, the hotel is geared up for the German, Russians, and Turks. You will find it a alonely holiday.

Our stay at this hotel was very relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute, not even the weather could dampen our spirits because despite the occasional rain shower, the temperature was still in the high 70's. We met two lovely families and my son made some great friends, "Hello Ella and Holly" . This is a quality hotel which has great facilities and is kept spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and work tirelessly, especially the lovely lady who cleaned our room. A great choice of food in the buffet restaurant, something for everyone. Lunch time was my favourite, straight off the beach to the seafood restaurant, tasty bowl of soup, fresh bread, followed by a freshly cooked fillet of Panga fish with salad and a nice cold beer! That's what holidays are all about. Relax and enjoy!

Room Tip: Though our room 1422, had great views of the mountains and the sea and had wonderful comfy beds, the...

We have stayed at Barut Lara for 4 nights at the beginning of September 2012 with our 3-year old daughter. We were also accompanied by family friends with their 1 & ½-year daughter as well. The hotel is great no doubt about that, we were upgraded along with our friends to the junior sweets which was a pleasant move from the hotel side. Though I thought all families are kept at this area to keep noisy children in one place, regardless of the intentions, we were pleased with the upgrade.
There are many positives about this hotel, there are plenty of activities for families with kids, especially kids 4 years and older. The food was excellent in certain times and repetitive in others. I would highly recommend the baklava sweets it presented, it was not offered each time, but if it is there do not, I repeat do not miss it. I really hate the all-inclusive deals, I have eaten like a cow during my stay. Ironically, the hotel provides each room with digital scale so that you can feel the guilt after you eat. I liked the restaurant on the beach, its not much about the food as much as having food in great relaxed setting without worrying about who will be pushing you on the buffet as like the main dining area. As I don’t drink, I cannot comment on the quality of the alcoholic drinks, I just felt that my all inclusive package was little more expensive for things that I didn't use. I tried several coffee beverages and soft drinks and those were fine.
We went to the live shows 3 times, 2 times it was ok shows, but one of the shows I was wowed amazed and though it was free like all other shows I would have paid to see that show. Kids seemed to like those shows and it’s worth it for families with little kids.
Swimming pools and Beach are very good, however, last year we went to Grand Hyatt in Sharm El Sheikh which had a great value, and we had enjoyed the pools and the beach there more to be honest about that. Nonetheless, this isn't to say this hotel is bad, on the contrary, it was great. Sharm El Shaikh advantage was the clear water and coral, you have to love snorkeling to enjoy the coral. In Antalya the water wasn't as clear, however, we enjoyed our swim and no complains there.
Hotel location is not so close to Antalya’s old district, this was disadvantage to us as we had young kids who sleep early. The hotel has babysitting service but we didn't try it as we don’t trust leaving my kid with strangers. We went to Antalya old city only once and it is totally worth visiting. We also visited dumdum waterfall, it was nice but if you are short on time like we were I wouldn't miss going to this place.

The downside for this hotel are few and did not really bother me. Those are, plenty of Mosquitos in the room, staff are more geared towards serving Russians, I called guest relationship few times and think they are even rude or their limited English understanding cause them to sound rude (they answer the questions but in too much hurry to close the phone), TV channels accommodate mainly for Russians and Turkish but no English channels (this was ok as we did not stay much in the room), shuttle bus to Antalya were limited to one round trip only.
I went to this hotel because it was rated no1 on trip advisor, I would recommend this hotel to other travelers but would say keep your expectations realistic.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in mid October. It was our first family holiday and we were travelling with our 7 month old son. We went with Thomas Cook and i cannot fault their service. We arrived at the hotel to find we had a complimentary upgrade. I had already pushed the boat out for a penthouse suite so was delighted to get upgraded to a presidential suite. We were given a personal check in and tour of the hotel. The room was lovely. Large and spacious with two balconies and a steam room with his and hers sinks. There was a cot waiting for the little man and a fully stocked mini bar.

Part of the service included free room service and a towel service. We had orange towels, not sure why?? We ate in the buffet on the first night and of course there was a large selection but it was typical buffet style. Fine but i couldn't do it every night. Fortunately there were 6 other restaurants to check out during our stay. I will say though that the buffet was perfect for the baby. He is just starting the baby led weaning and loved it. There was a great choice and even a kids buffet.

The complex itself is spotless, lovely big clean open spaces. All the staff are very polite and friendly and loved the baby. The swimming pools were big and that would be my only niggle. Due to their size and the time of year they were cold. Too cold for us at the beginning of the week but we got used to them and eventually even the baby coped, but not for long periods.

All the restaurants are lovely, make sure you book beforehand though and they are all closed on one of the nights of the week so beware. Another perk of the upgrade was that we were able to book in advance where i believe the common folk :-) could only book the same day.

I could talk for ages about this hotel but to sum it up I honestly say we would go back. I had never been to Turkey before and never been to a hotel that i would happily recommend and revisit.

Well done Barut Lara you have converted this man. Even with all the Germans :-)

Room Tip: If you can afford it go for a suite. Although the garden rooms looked lovely
