“A lovely all inclusive hotel”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

We really love this hotel and have visited it 4 times, it is very clean, the staff are extremely friendly and the food is exceptional, location to the beach is great and it would suit families or couples as it has something for everyone. Our only criticism is the air conditioning if/when it works it is great but every time we have been there it has broken down and despite many phone calls to report it they don't come and repair it. For many people this wouldn't be a problem but for us we found the room too hot to be able to sleep well.

Room Tip: the rooms over looking the Turunce pool are lovely and much quieter

On arrival we feared the worst, Grumpy Disinterested front desk staff...

Suggestion.. Put Sait, Halice, Adem and Bengul on the front desk they make guests feel welcome !!!!!

However, onward we went, to our sea view room on the 5th Floor, nice large room, very clean and an amazing shower area within the spacious bathroom.
Despite our late arrival, there was a reasonable choice of food available in the Buffet restaurant until 1am.
So on our first morning we are welcomed with open arms by Hatice a lovely smiley lady who looked after our room all week.
Off to Breakfast, a vast choice and again another warm welcome from Adem, who was a joy to meet every morning for the remainder of our holiday.
Then off to the pool, busy, but always a bed somewhere, the grounds are enormous, and many places to hide away,
TIP-if you want to be a hermit there is a very quiet pool, unknown to many, alongside the Turunc Restaurant, but easily accessed from the Reception area.

As this was really intended to be a chill out, this may have been a good option, however.....

Off to the main pool, where at around 10am the whole place is lifted by the arrival of THE ANIMATION TEAM, more like a scene from “The Bar in Star Wars”, but these hardworking, crazy bunch will really make a difference to your holiday.
Cheers to Sait,( Thanks, you made our holiday, so much fun)
Also to Cemal, Hasan, Tugra, Nemo.

We watched carefully from under our umbrellas on the first morning, and their skill and infectious attitude is a joy to watch, from the Mini Club team leading little ones around the pool area to the hip wiggling Cemal.

Then he arrives, SAIT, Robin Hood in shorts and an animation T Shirt, next thing he’s leading us off to Archery, where often a bit worse for wear, we attended religiously, morning and afternoon.
We had many laughs with a great bunch of other guests.

Back to the Pool, loads of options for lunch, all good, cocktails, (they are actually better quality in the 24 hour Lobby Bar), but drinks are plentiful, ask for your favorite brand they often have it. On many occasions, our favorite drink was just presented to us, if our glass was empty.

Special mention to Bengul, a delightful, friendly and very attentive member of the Bar Team.

Shower, (Amazing), off to Dinner, we only ate at the Buffet one evening and the quality and choice was good.
However, the A La carte restaurants are plentiful, at times difficult to book.

Tip -stay up late, have some fun and on the way to bed anytime after midnight, go to the machines in the Lobby and you can book an extra day in advance for the A La Carte.
Or join the queue in reception early the next morning !!!

You need to make your own mind up, but the BBQ is fun, the Asian outstanding and all the others very good, staff attentive and friendly.

After Dinner choices are the Theatre where a show is available every evening, although we rarely attended they seemed to be very similar, with a Circus/Acrobat theme. Or around the pool Bar, where again there is always some sort of live music, DJ, and again the Animation team will ensure your evening is fun.

If that’s not enough, the Lobby is open 24 hours, or until you fall off your stool (Obnoxious Scottish Lady), then there is the Nightclub, we popped our heads in every evening just to count the people, 5, 3, 8 it was never busy !!!!!

All in All, this hotel, is very very good in all aspects, and we would definitely return.

We just came from our first family vacation. My son is 1.5years old and he was treated as guest by Barut hotel - he had his own baby cot, shower kit, towels, changing mat , etc. This is the best you can get. The entertainment conditions for babies were very good.

We got a standard land view room which was very nice - quiet and with a view on the gardens. After all with an infant, you don't have time for sea view enjoyment.

Food was very good with a lot of choices, especially the Turkish desserts and kofte.
Only once we went to the pool, because well we went to the sea-side and not pool side, but the beach was AWESOME.

All in all it was an nice vacation.

For the last 7 years we have stayed in Turkey in various hotels and this year we booked the Barut Lara for 2 weeks. We chose the hotel after seeing that it was number 1 on trip adviser in the Antalya area. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and our favourite waitress was Ayse who worked in the lobby bar. We recognised Ayse from a hotel we had previously stayed at and we were delighted to find her working at the Barut Lara. Each day we joined in various activities such as archery and aqua aerobics and through these got to know the animation team very well. Archery was taken by Sait who made the sessions enjoyable through his humour and good nature. He made new guests very welcome. In the evenings the animation team would be at the shows and pool bars making sure guests had a good time and joined in the evenings dancing. The hotel is modern and clean and the bedrooms are a good size. I went to the spa for a treatment and once again the staff were friendly and professional. The only negative comment I would make is that the food in the main restaurant becomes repetitive over the 2 weeks and could be more varied with the chefs offering more "specials". The A La Carte restaurants are well worth booking. We tried the Italian, International, Seafood and Tarut. The food in all of these were excellent and so good we did a second visit. The staff in these were attentive and humorous. The water sports was a disappointment. There was little presence of the staff and no opportunity for water skiing. Compared to other water sports along the beach we found it limited. We would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was in the main building and over looked the pool. We found this to be conven...

We arrived late at night and the look of the hotel did not have the wow factor.
We were there for 2 weeks and the room was dusty on arrival, and not the cleanest.
The fridge was very basic no extras i.e. chocs peanuts etc as we have found in other Turkish hotels. The shower cubicle/wet room was beautiful, but we were given bath foam !!
As a whole the hotel lacked attention to detail i.e. no extras or finishing touches.
The buffet restaurant was very cramped outside and the tables were in rows, very regimented and far too close together. The food although was very good with a varied selection. On the negative side there were a lot of cats around. I love cats but not when I am eating. Not sure what the cats home was all about thought it was a bit cruel to see 50 odd cats locked up.
The al la cartes were possibly the best we have had in Turkey and there was in my opinion no problem booking them. This was due to guest relations being very accommodating and we had 10 in total !
The drinks in both bars were branded but you needed to ask for them. One waitress shone, Bengul who did the work of 3 male waiters and was always smiling. I feel there are not enough bars especially in the evenings.
The lounge area in the hotel area reminded me of an old peoples home, lacking character.
We did several walks around the grounds and were not impressed with the appearance. The grass was very uneven and the grounds needed landscaping, again attention to detail !
On the positive side there were very few Russians there, maybe it was the time of year or do they know something we don't.
Evening shows in the amphitheater were just o.k. shows were repetitive catered for the under 40's and children.
Live music at the outside bar area was of a poor standard.
The animation team were very good, cant believe the best 2, Ezgi and Yalchin have mysteriously disappeared !
The main pool was very busy especially with lots of noisy children and feel an adult/quiet pool would be appreciated. I know there was another pool but this was in the main for guests in the adjoining blocks.

To sum up I feel the hotel is expensive for what you get.
I have been to Turkey 12 times including Delphin Palace which had personality and the wow factor, Voyage Belek, Susesi, Cornelia Diamond, and Baia Lara, all were individual in their own way.

I will not be returning to this hotel there is far better.

After our 7th time in Turkey we have stayed at some lovely hotels we decided to choose another different hotel. Last year we stayed at Sensatori Turkey which is a also a BARUT chain hotel. Our friends mentioned the BARUT LARA as it was the same chain so we booked for end may into June 2014, but were not disappointed by any stretch!

Initially when you see the pictures (we booked online with first choice) the hotel looks small and don't really do it justice in my opinion. It is far from small and the grounds to surrounding area within it are so long and you have so many places to pitch up and chill out!

We chose a sea view and pool view room. We were in the main hotel building as the hotel has 3-4 high blocks within the grounds too which have different views over Antalya.

Having heard about the renovation, we chose the hotel initially on that basis as it would be seemingly new and it is. All new in opinion but I have not stayed previously but cannot easily spot this.

Overall the hotel is well laid out, very clean and always ship shape! our room had a very large walk in power shower (not quite wet room but as big), nice bed although not as big as some 5 star hotels and the only thing was you had 2 separate single bed covers instead of 1 large one. perhaps you can have this changed with the hotel guest relations. Air con was excellent, always cold when you needed it although I think in the middle of the night (approx 4-5 hours) they turn it to a fan and knock off the air con which can be a bit of a problem in the middle of summer I suspect! good mini bar too and well stocked every day with beer, coca cola and diet cola, sprite, Fanta, water (you need this!), fresh juice and sparkling water (although no wine)

As a comparison we went to the Titanic a few hotels down as we had head so much about it. On arrival, it was wow this is impressive i.e. in reception, main bar but going outside the pool area it looked very tired and not as clean or well laid out at the Barut Lara. we didn't stay long an quickly walked back to the Barut!

nearby there is not much to do but we like that. especially as the hotel has so much going on through the day and evening. This is a massively helped by the excellent entertainment / animation team. I don't normally get dragged up to do activities on my holiday but these guys made it so much fun and not a holiday chore of disruption. Key people were Tubu (so lovely, really wanted to talk to you and do whatever she could and had such a nice personality oh and funny laugh.. her favourite words... "Chris Don't touch me!! " note Chris was my friend on holiday not me! :-) ) other key guys were Nemo, Sait, Altan, Ezgi and Yalcin (although the latter two are not there anymore at the hotel I believe as they were heading to Canada at some point)

Bar staff very nice, pool bar was perhaps the best pool bar we have been to. great atmosphere and excellent waiter (or should I say waitress, namely Bengul she was our little Turkish Delight) service.

Tips, we tended to tip quite often for the good service and the staff really appreciated that too. on a return visit you would know the difference of appreciation although not just because you gave them a tip. they truly appreciated it.

Retaurants, well these are probably the best we have eaten in. The main restaurant (buffet self service) is good although we like to choose from a menu with service rather than the hustle and bustle. In fact we booked the a la carte throughout the majority of our stay and I must add having no issues at all booking in. The best restaurants were Asia and Turunc the latter has an excellent steak!

Drinks... wine (white was excellent) along with Rose although Red I wasn't too keen on as I normally drink red. international spirits and beers (becks/Miller) was excellent to have the variety. Although when you do get waiter service I did think I could tell that you received the local variant of spirit even if you did ask the international although I never could confirm this as I wasn't too precious about it. so if you want the specific drink go to the bar yourself to be safe. oh and the beer is EFES on tap which is very nice. we stayed previously at a hotel in turkey and it was terrible like a dark wheat beer, even I couldn't face it!

Beach, was excellent and nice and breezy (you need it in that heat!), not service on the beach but a well positioned beach bar although the beer there was a little gassy but went down well in the heat and sun! :-) they had a jetty although it was small and not many chairs but we didn't have an issue getting a sunbed.. no sunbeds.. around the pool key spots were taken quickly and very early but we could easily find one or move a bed to a secluded grass area which we liked to do. My opinion was that sunbeds were too close to one another but you could move them. Oh they also had comfortable sponge covers on too which I think is key for your back! That said there were new pool "rules" issued a few days before we left whereby if you were not sat on your sunbed within 1 hour of your towel on it then it would be removed! which is a good thing I think as some beds were left most of the day!

now a few very "minor" niggles...

lifts.. difficult to get sometimes as there were only 3 for the main hotel and so many rooms/guests. we took the stairs quite often. ok if you haven't just done 3 miles on the treadmill which we did each day.

Cocktails.. few and far between and not too good really. you can ask for your own just give them the mixture and they will try their best to do it.

Beach is a long way from the main hotel but we liked that as we like to walk around the grounds.

Towel hut.. a bit "jobsworth" and wouldn't let you change towels that often and were strict the rules! we had a couple of moments with them should we say!

Entertainment, the shows were very good although we didn't get to many as we like it around the pool bar so much and there was music every night there outside under the stars dancing like idiots with the animation team. Who always managed to get you up but in a nice way to the dance floor! :-) There we some "special shows" they did and one was an all seasons party where it was placed near the beach with a quality stage, top class professional club DJ and amazing drinks layout/service. The best bit was the four seasons dropped from the stage water, foam (snow), sun etc... amazing had so much fun!

Diving... I am a keen diver and there is a trip with the hotel but takes 1.5-2 hours to get there! so I didn't take them up on it and it was flagged as a beginners dive. That said they did do some diving at the Titanic and I am sure you can book there but from memory it is the waterfall dive (close the airport) and I did that last time I went to Turkey. The sea as usual has nothing to see in it and is invariably choppy sometimes so you cant see anything anyway.

Lovely 2 week holiday and would definitely go back again and recommend for families, friends and couples! for families it is excellent for kids, and little ones although the best ages would be 5-12. we would certainly take ours but they are all older now.
