“Fantastic Fortnight”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Just returned from a fantastic two week holiday in the BARUT LARA!

Let’s start with the positives, the main one being the entertainment and animation team. These guys work tirelessly to ensure that everyone has a great time. Special mention must go to Nemo, one of the best animators that you’re ever likely to come across (special shout out to his RIFLE SHOOTING TIMEEEEEEEE which is great fun) & Tuba who also has a great personality and whose Yoga & Zumba classes are also very enjoyable.

In terms of events, there are plenty of activities throughout the day including Volleyball, Darts, Archery, Football, Tennis, Water Gym, Pool Game as well as the ones mentioned above. Night time entertainment is by far and away the best we’ve experienced from any AI hotel that we’ve stayed in. The shows are now outsourced and are a really high standard – Mongolian Circus being our personal favourite with Moscow Kids Circus being a close second. There’s also music on at the pool bar from 10.30pm to 12 and a disco from there onwards which was surprisingly relatively busy! On a Wednesday night, the hotel alternates between a fun fare (which is a good laugh) and a Party Night (our highlight of the holiday). For this they essentially transform the garden into an outside nightclub and there was a great atmosphere. People from all ages seemed to enjoy it and the dance floor was full from start to finish.

Most of the bar staff are really friendly with honourable mentions for Regaip, Bengal & Cumali who provided an exceptional level of service throughout our stay. As others have mentioned, most branded drinks are available (Smirnoff, Bacardi, JD, Baileys, Miller etc) however you have to ask for these.

We managed to visit all of the A La Cartes throughout the two weeks and didn’t have a great difficulty booking restaurants as just used the machines at reception on the way back to our hotel at night. Really enjoyed the Akdeniz (Chateaubriand is a mist), Turunc (Fajitas are sensational) and the Barbeque (great experience!). Italian, Asian, Seafood, Turkish and Sofa were all good as well. To be honest I wasn’t a great fan of the Buffet restaurant but plenty of people we spoke to seemed to enjoy it and it was always busy.

Now onto areas where the hotel could improve. Biggest thing for me is the level of service from most of the restaurant staff. This is way below what we would expect from a 5 star hotel. On many occasions (across both buffet and a la carte) we waited too long for drinks, menus, food you name it. A significant proportion of staff weren’t particularly friendly and often they removed your plates before everyone at your table is finished.

We also had a pretty poor experience at reception when we checked in. Having previously requested a room, we were disappointed when this wasn’t fully met. We subsequently went back down and explained our issue however at the same time a group arrived at the hotel and we were asked to step aside while they checked them in. We patiently waited for ten minutes and were called over again however after another minute another group arrived and we were discarded again. By this point I was mad as it was around 11pm at night and we were exhausted. I asked to speak to a manager and was presented with a security guard that couldn’t speak a word of English. Eventually the issue was resolved but lesson for the hotel is to treat all customers equally and don’t discard (especially not twice)!

Other minor things are sunbed wars – despite numerous signs/letters you need to get up and get a towel down before 8am or you won’t get a be (whilst many lie idle for hours). And as many have said previously the hotel doesn’t look great on the eye. Also, AVOID the hotel’s photo shop. Firstly, the staff are extremely unpleasant and there prices are a rip off. One night they took pictures of us and when we had a look we decided we would like to have a digital copy of some of the photos. We expected the cost of this to be cheaper as there are no printing costs for them however they still insisted on charging us the standard 10 euros per picture. Eventually we decided we would take two and I asked that as we were paying 20 euros (and all they had to do was drag and drop into our memory card) if they could also give us the extra couple of photos that they had of us and they point blank refused unless we paid 10 euros for each. This left a real sour taste.

Have scored the hotel as 4/5 due to some of the issues mentioned above however it’s still a fantastic resort and I hope that we’ll return at some point in the future.

I have been at Barut Lara 9 year in a row and this year two times. The hotel still offers you the best service ever. If you want to get spoiled on your holiday this is the place to visit.
The personel (cleaning, waiter, bar, reception, guest relation and so on) are very polite and friendly. During this winter the hotel made some changes. Two new restaurants, italian and asian, with wery good food. Also the hotel rooms have been rebuild and It´s better now. Hamam area is new and also the gym with new machines.
They have computerised the booking system for the a la carte restaurants and that is NOT good. Some guest find it full booked and others can visit the a la carte restaurant every night. I hope they will do something about that. I noticed the last weeks that you have to go up early to get good places at the pool area.
The atmosphere at the hotel is great. You can always find a silent place. The hotel concept fits everyone; families with young kids, middle-age kids, romantic couple, older and its also handicap-friendly.
I like to crawlsim in the indoor pool with salt water. The problem was that the under water lights was turned off during day time so It was hard to see exactly where the pool ended, and the pool has no marker on the pool floor.
I can recommend this hotel if you looking for good atmosphere and brilliant service.

This was our second visit to this Hotel. It is still one of the best in this area. Excellent food, very good chlldrens´ animation. There are two new restaurants, which are quite good, but not outstanding. The Asia needs some improvement on the food to be more genuine.

Now for my critical points:

There used to be a VIP-Service for the Suite guests as well as a VIP-lounge. It is no more, only for the Presidential and I think 2 other suites. No more newspapers in the morning and the Minibar now only is stocked with water and sodas. Last time it was fully stocked. No more Gala-dinners and theme-evenings. To get a Reservation (now at computerterminals) you have to eather stay late (after midnight) or get up early (before 9 a.m.) to secure a Reservation. We saw many empty tables at the restaurants because People didn´t turn up. I suggest some form of blocking this room-number ba no-show.

The hotel-management should enforce their own rules:
No sunbed reservations. It was impossible for us - with a four-year-old - to get a sunbed at the poolside after 9 a.m
It is not a nice way to go to the fine dining in shorts and flip-flops. There are signs at every restaurant-entrance forbidding this. We have been to other Resorts where they do enforce this things.

Room Tip: Not towards the street.

Most reviews on this hotel tell you pretty much everything you need to know, including positive and negative moments. It really depends on what you are looking for - I wanted a bit more green space so decided to go for Barut Lara rather than Titanic, but some will prefer the opposite.
I think the value is really good and it really depends what you pay attention to - good or bad.
Overall, it was really a good place to go with family, amazing facilities and food (8 a la carte restaurants plus main buffet restaurant - all inclusive)!
I think a bit more smiles from the people working at the hotel would be great (bars, restaurants, reception), that would make people return as personal touch is everything.
Kids Club is AMAZING, really well organized and people there were really talented!
Cleaning in the rooms varies from day to day (depends on the cleaner - which shouldn't be the case), so if you are not happy - call reception and ask for a proper cleaning. I've seen somebody was actually checking selective rooms on the quality of cleaning, so it is obviously a priority for management.
I will definitely go back to Turkey, may to Barut Lara, maybe to other hotel, just to try. Will see closer to date.

Room Tip: Didn't like the view to the opposite hotel, but didn't stay in the room much so it was ok. T...

Just returned from our second stay at the Barut Lara, having stayed at this hotel last year. This is the first time we have ever gone back to the same hotel twice. Our usual preference would be to try somewhere new each year. But having stayed here last year, and thought about what we wanted from a holiday, we decided that the Barut Lara delivered on just about everything we needed and booked a return visit. We weren’t disappointed. From the reviews , there seem to be many repeat visitors and I can understand why.

Food – plentiful choice

Drink – international brand drinks – a late night Glenfiddich or Baileys was usually delivered straight to me by the very hardworking and friendly bar staff. Goodness knows how they remember what each guest drinks. It’s the small touches like this that make the whole experience.

Animation team – as others have mentioned, they work incredibly hard to make the stay enjoyable if you choose to join in but are happy to let you watch on if you aren’t up for the activities. A special mention to Altan – the teenage rep – who made my son’s stay so enjoyable. Neemo was a great addition to the team as well.

Pool area - always managed to get a bed by the main pool if I was down by 9 am. Plenty of other places to chill if you want somewhere quieter.

I’m pretty sure we will be back next year which is probably as strong a recommendation as I could give.

5 of us just got back from 6 nights stay in Barut Lara,

“Nothing to complain “this was the most common answer I heard from the people, when I asked the about their feeling while staying in Barut Lara. yes nothing to complain about Barut Lara , but there may thing to appreciate about , including the professional VIP treatment  your receive where ever you move in this vast hotel , excellent Al-a-karte  restaurants , marvelous swimming pools , reasonable ,a good harmony between the animation and entertainment programs and proper architecture and design , which has led to sound  dispensation of the guests in different locations despite of  numerous travelers .Yet the most asset of Barut Lara is its staff  ,from the working people in restaurants to the reservation and reception team and their manager Mr. Ozge  ,to the Guest relation unit .

The only down side in my opinion was the noise coming from neighboring hotel ,after midnight , although Barut Lara itself would finish all the noisy  programs after midnight and the party would go on in the night club located at the basement .

I would defiantly recommend this hotel to anybody planning to go to the Antalya region .

Room tip : any sea view room at 5th floor and above .

And finally a suggestion to the top management to adopt this slogan:

BARUT LARA , MERMAID OF ANTALYA
