“Good value for money for half term break”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

Stayed at Porto Bello during the half term break, the hotel itself was lovely and clean and this is true of the communal areas as well as the bedrooms. We stayed all inclusive and found the food to be good although repetitive. It was never particularly hot but I think that is characteristic of buffet food. Drinks were good, although would have been nice if the bar had stayed open later than midnight - they turn the lights off on the dot of midnight!
We had great weather and the holiday was just what we needed - we mainly lay by the pool or on the beach. Loads of sun loungers but the hotel was fairly quiet as it was the last week in October.
The room was a decent size, the bathroom needed some attention but we were in an economy room.
The reception staff were a low point of our holiday, they were not particularly helpful on arrival or when we enquired about buses etc. The other staff were all very helpful and polite with a good level of English spoken.
The hotel isn't in Antalya itself but we took a bus into the old town twice. This was easy and cheap (2TL each) We attempted once to get a bus back and ended up on the wrong bus totally lost so resorted to taxis back both times. This cost about 30TL (approx. 10 pounds each time) but was worth the trip to see the Old Town.
All in all, we had a relaxing holiday in the sun with plenty to eat and drink. The hotel was perfect for our requirements for a relaxing break and I would recommend.

Room Tip: The economic rooms (this is what we booked) do not have balconies. This wasn't a problem as the...

Ok so I thought I would leave a review because me and my partner booked this holiday about 6 or so weeks ago and the reviews were so good until recently... So we were not sure what to expect really.

We arrived early hours of Sunday morning. Reception were polite on arrival and offered us food in the restaurant which I was surprised at seeing as it was about 1am by the time we got here.

Asked for a double bed full well knowing we would probably get two singles but they were easy to push together.

It wasn't noisey and we've been here two nights now both nights we slept fine... Didn't hear a thing.

Breakfast - we have taken a liking to the omelettes yummy!!!
Juices, cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, big selection of bread, pancakes, sausages etc

The food is what you expect all inclusive trying to make it go as far as possible. It's all edible and I found stuff to eat which was nice. All inclusive is always repetitive !!!

Waiters are pleasant and get your drinks at lunch and dinner and in the lobby bar

The way I see it is I didn't pay the price of a five star.....so as long as it's clean, the food is ok and the service is ok what's to complain about!

Had a Turkish bath in the spa and it was amazing and so worth the money it worked out 45 sterling for the Turkish bath, a facial where we were offered tea and water in a lovely relaxing room... I thought that was it .... Then we both had a half hour massage!!!! Amazing

I didn't feel out of place because I was British......
Staff were not rude
We got offered drinks by the pool

So far so good......
Some people are hard to please and at the end of the day I paid 200 pp for hotel alone..... That's not a lot really!!!!

Go figure ....

We went as a couple and there wasn't lots of screaming children I was pleasantly surprised I was nervous going at half term as just wanted to chill in the sun for a week

It's right by the sea had a pool and sea view.... Gorgeous!!!!

It is true that if you want to relax and sun bathe for a week this is for you....

Music by the pool was nice and traffic was no where as bad as people made out!!!!

We have just returned from 7 nights at Porto Bello. It was our first time going to Turkey, and we checked trip advisor constantly before our stay as we didn't know what to expect from Porto Bello. But as we paid for a 5 star, we at least expected good service, tasty food and comfort.
However, within 2 hours of arriving at Porto Bello we wanted to leave. The atmosphere and service from staff was awful and made us feel so uncomfortable being at the hotel. And the issue with this hotel is that it is literally away from everything and everyone. So even if you want to leave the hotel to get a different sight or to get away from being made to feel uncomfortable, then it's impossible as it's at the end of Antalya and doesn't have anything near it to do. We did venture out to Kaleici for a day which meant we had to catch a bus which took 35 mins, and we enjoyed our day there. We had to find out by using our iPad to work out how to get there etc, as staff can't understand English and nobody who speaks English are there to help.
The problem with the hotel is that it's only interested in German customers, all the staff have very poor English and yet they all speak fluent German!! They do not have any holiday reps for UK customers, only for German customers. So then they tell you to use the information books they have instead, however these are also all in GERMAN! And when you ask them for your pick up time for your transfer to the airport to come home, reception will tell you to check the info board and they put up a print out of everyone's pick up times. But yep, you guessed it, these are only available for GERMAN customers. You get the feeling that they are not interested in British people, only German. All entertainment is also in German, you are made to feel so left out its unreal. The staff are just plain rude, the room they put us in had a "wall view"' and it was so noisy as it was next door to a water room. We couldn't sleep as it was so noisy. Even though they tell you all rooms have at least a land view. Only when we contacted our holiday company to ask to move hotel that they said they would move us room. The food is ok, very repetitive, but the pool bar has a nice menu during the day. Don't bother queueing at the bar for your drinks as everyone else just pushes in front. You end up feeling frustrated. They say you cannot reserve sun loungers at the pool, but you will just see people's bags and towels tactically left for the majority of the day. And nobody does anything about it. The entertainment staff spend their day doing handstands and practicing their handstands...all...day...long by the pool. The beach is a pebble beach so make sure you wear your flip flops as it hurts your feet to walk on. We did try using the games room to play pool, but we were told that it was 20 lira for one hour - very odd that at a 5 star all inclusive that you would be required to pay for this. After your evening meal, they have a lovely seating area outside, but it is impossible to ever get a seat/table, we tried every night and it's impossible as some people leave one person sat on them while people eat to keep the tables. So then we would try to sit in the lobby area instead - once again, you will not get a seat/table. And as there is NOTHING else to do in this area of Antalya, you resort to going to your room. And the TV has one English Channel (but lots of German) and this BBC World News (oh yay lol). The pool area is lovely, but the pool is absolutely freezing, it's a huge pool but nobody ever goes in it as it's so cold. Such a shame. They have an indoor pool, but again it's freezing cold. In the restaurant you are not shown to your table, everyone is left fighting for a table. There is plenty of staff to be able to do this, but the only job they do is clear tables, and if your lucky you can ask them for your drinks. Many times we saw people walking around with plates full of food and not being able to find a table and they were left to stand and eat it - awful. Or, if you go to get your desert you may find when you get back that they have cleared your table and someone else is sat there (seen this several times). Goes to show how much notice the staff take of you. And there is constant noise of clattering of plates and cutlery, it's impossible to enjoy your meal and relax. They do have an Italian and fish restaurant alternating each night but they charge you to use these even if you are all inclusive.
To summarise, we would never stay here again, we are a couple in our mid 20's, and if you speak German then the hotel will help and accommodate you, but if you speak English seriously don't bother, the hotel are not interested in you. They organise trips for German customers and even use the mini buses to take them and drop them back. As customers from the UK we didn't have this option, and we were devastated as we were looking forward to seeing more of Turkey on day trips. And the location is awful. There are so many other real 5 star hotels nearer Kaleici, or the centre of Antalya. Porto Bello is at the end of nowhere and is soooooo boring and the hotel is certainly not 5 star. This review is an honest view of the hotel, don't stay here!

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.

Location:
There is simply nothing to do outside if the Porto Bello resort, if you are looking to do anything other than lay on a Sun lounger then the Porto Bello is not for you, and even if you are hoping to relax in the sun by the pool you must be willing to tolerate the sound if traffic on the busy road directly next to the pool, music is played to drown out the sound however this results in quite a noisy poolside experience!

Rooms:
On arrival we were given a large family room but the following day we were promptly moved to a standard room, although the rooms were basic they were kept clean by housekeeping staff. If travelling as a couple you need to be aware that double beds are in fact two single beds pushed together. We could receive good WiFi in our room which meant we could escape the boredom of an evening and watch tv (other than the BBC world news on the tv supplied by the room). Unfortunately the weather was not fantastic on two days of our stay, this resulted in the entertainment being move in to the lobby area, the entertainment does not start until 9:30pm therefore it can go on until past midnight which consequently kept us awake until the early hours on a number of occasions. I did complain on two occasions to reception staff which didn't seem to make much difference. The rooms clearly have thin walls because the rooms are NEVER quiet and we were woken up every single day of our 10 night stay. On a positive note the mini bar is kept topped up an the rooms are comfortable but categorically not a 5 star.

Food and drink.
The food is good, although after a number of days you realise there is little variety. Getting a seat can be a battle in the main restaurant and on a number of occasions people were left hovering amongst the tables with a plate full of food trying to find a seat. The drinks service in the restaurant is hit and miss, if you do get offered a drink you may find the staff find it an inconvenience to fetch it for you as it is slammed in front of you, alternatively you won't get offered a drink at all. Drinks in the lobby are better throughout the day, although you can be left hovering expectantly at the bar whilst staff seemingly ignore you.

Today is our final day... and we have a late flight. We asked reception staff on our arrival and again the day before our departure if we could extend our room so that we could shower and sleep before we leave. We were given the impression that this should be no problem, however on attending this morning we were abruptly told this will not be possible as they have new people arriving! It really does feel that once you are given a room they are no longer interested in the quality of your stay as they are simply too occupied in getting new people through the door.

Before I booked this hotel we checked trip advisor religiously and saw great reviews. I have never written a trip advisor review before but I am simply disappointed with our stay here.

Room Tip: Book another hotel!

I Stayed here for a few nights with my wife.

Reception staff are friendly and nice. Reception hall is nice and big, with lots of comfy chairs to chill out in, in the evenings. The waiters are sometimes hit and miss as your ordered drinks can go missing. Some nights there was live music.

The hotel grounds are quite small, but its very clean. Our room was in the main building on the eighth floor and had a great view of the sea, and pool area, and was nice and clean.

The buffet restaurant food was limited(ish) in choice but was all of great quality. However, the real star was the outside ala carte restaurant and food was exceptional, and the waiters very friendly. The deserts are to die for! (Fig cheesecake yummy!!)

I ordered a local whisky once and was told that I have to pay, unless I have a flavouring in it, so I chose banana. That was really weird as local drinks should be free *shrug* This and the occasional drinks going walkabout where the only minus points really.

The 'bar room' was nice to go to also, with music and a lively atmosphere, and one night had live entertainment.

I would definitely stay here again.

I would like to have a room with mountain and sea view, but was O.K.too the room with view of Antalya city.

This hotel isn't for young people looking for a busy holiday. If you want to switch off and sunbathe, then it's fine. It's at leastv15 minutes by bus into Old Town ( half an hour plus in rush hour) there is literally NOTHING to do or see unless you are very close to Old Town and even then, there is only two clubs in Old Town. There are great market stalls though and lovely places to eat. Porto bello is at the end of the strip. Cab is about 25TL to Old Clock Tower, bus is 2TL per person. Portobello staff are super rude and don't like to help the English.. Except Hakkan at the Spa and one young lady on Reception ( they were very helpful) w met two other young couples who said the exact same as we did... We were glad it wasn't just us. Initially we were put into a tiny, disabled room and I had to tell them we couldn't spend our holiday there. When I enquirer at reception I was told " well it's a low cost room" I have to say the price we paid certainly was not low cost!! There are different types of rooms in the hotel- low cost, standard, then deluxe and then suites... Bare this in mind when booking. We did eventually get moved to a bigger room, with the tiniest balcony ever.. I let it slide and we stayed there. Honestly I hate to complain, but this hotel is NOT 5*!! Wifi is good though and the food at Mangal is quite nice.. Awful service though ( brought deserts with our starters and then out mains?!!) always forgot our drinks, very rude. One young lady was again very helpful, but not a single person spoke English! Such a shame! Animation team improved towards the end of our holiday with Zumba team coming In, but heard a lot of people complaining about lack of info on tourist attractions and things to do. I managed to find a travel agent, who I approached and booked Buggy Safari in with ( Mina's Travel) they were ok and the agent was very honest. We were covered on our UK Insurance ( others turned us away as we were British) overall, we enjoyed our stay as we went in holiday to get away from 'real life' and be together, but we wouldn't come back to Porto Bello again as the service was sadly just not what we expected..next time I would either choose Analya or Marmaris again!
