We go home tomorrow after an excellent holiday. We have had all we expected and more.
We came to chill out before Xmas and just enjoy the break. We have been treated to an excellent holiday with good food and brilliant service (especially the two young ladies in guest relations and the lovely waitress who attended us at breakfast and midday meals).
We spent our days on nature walks in the morning and trips into Antalya for Xmas shopping in the afternoon.
We brought our binoculars and that turned out well as the region is teeming in interesting bird life. We are not experts so I cannot tell you all we saw but there are lots of varied habitats within walking distance of the hotel. We walked along the beach and then along the side of a small rive which fed back into a pool. On it's banks we saw waders. In the reed beds we saw all sorts of colourful birds which I have yet to google. On the tree tops we saw two herons and when we walked across farmland we saw birds of prey and a range of woodland birds.
The highlight of our bird watching was when we discovered a pair of kingfishers living in the small river than ran under the bridge of the driveway to the hotel. We had a perfect view from the bridge as we watched the kingfishers patrol up and down their river. Stopping to perch on the overhanging reeds to fish. On numerous occasions we had good views of them diving into the river. we saw them with the resultant minnows in their beak.
The bus to Antalya stops just outside, it is not obvious where to get off and initially we found ourselves going on very long trips all around the back streets of Antalya. As long as you have got time to spare it does not matter as the fare is 2TL (about 60p) irrespective of the distance you travel. This is where guest relations come into their own. They will tell you the best shopping mal is 'Terra City' you get the bus driver to tell you where to get off (it takes about 30mins). Terra City has a wide range of shops and we bought quite a few Xmas presents there; it has even got a M&S (M&S quality at Turkish prices). There is a large market on Saturdays that takes about 35mins. To go into the old town takes about an hour. The museum is at the end of the route and takes about an hour and 15mins. The end of the route is worth a trip as you get a great view along the beach on the west of Antalya and it is also a nice walk.
Well all in all the hotel is great and should be even better as we are told it is having a restoration over January & February. We don't know how they can provide such a holiday at the inexpensive price we paid.
Well we are now off to enjoy our last day.
Hope you have as enjoyable holiday as we have and remember to bring your binoculars.
