“So bad”
Reviewed 10 February 2014 via mobile

The thing that has characterized my stay is the inability to control the temperature of one's room... It is 16C outside but a sauna inside! When i rang reception to say that my AC wasn't working, they said "the temperature of the building is centrally controlled, and during the winter, the central control setting is on heating - we are not able to cool the building". Well, it's really hot in the building - can you change the setting? "Oh no, that cannot be done, the whole winter season. But we will open your windows for you fully". Thanks for the hot, noisy night.

Nice hotel... but not a 5 star.

All the stuff you have read in all the previous reviews are all true.

Pros:
1.) Nice staff - although not everyone speaks English.
2.) Great food.
3.) Good location.

Cons:
1.) You can hear the music from across the street going on into the wee hours of the night.
2.) Drinks are extremely expensive.
3.) The rooms are a little incomplete. The ceiling isn't finished off neatly... its rather off-putting.
4.) Bathrooms not too great. I hated the shower curtain. You can't help but wonder who else was in that shower when the curtain touches you.

I stayed here with my husband last year and was initially impressed by the glowing pink building with a chevy parked in front. The reception area was bare but I could see they were going for the modern minimal look. We asked for a complimentary upgrade due to our newly wed status however the manager said they simply did not do any upgrades. The room although interesting to look at, lacked any kind of warmth or comfort. Bare tiles and concrete walls with a 1970's style bathroom.

I thought the hotel had some really wonderful aspects such as the underground tunnel to the cliff and the view was spectacular (if you had a sea view room) but the breakfast was not at all what you'd expect from a 5*. The room service was okay and we had the pleasure of having dinner in the hotel on our last night, which was lovely however the uncovered food attracted flies and mosquitoes, leaving most of the desserts and salads inedible.

The location is good, there were some cafes and restaurants you could reach on foot and if you wanted to go further into town, taxis were easy to find as there was a stand across the street.

Overall, the hotel was nice but I couldn't use a better word to describe it. I personally wouldn't return, however if you prefer design over a touch of luxury and comfort, the Marmara is for you.

Room Tip: Seaview room if you're able otherwise you'll be looking onto the road and feel as though eve...

A hotel should offer two basic services perfect: Rest and hygiene. Since The Marmara fails to my opinion completely in realising the first, the only judgement can be terrible.
Opposite of the hotel are a couple of disco bars - sleeping in the hotel difficult;
Since the hotel loves concrete and tiles, all noise is transferred widely, so you can wake up from every other guest returning, moving a chair or talking;
Last fact is that the insulation between rooms seems to be poor, I could almost literally understand conversations.
When noise does not bother you, the personnel is good, the hotel is clean, the location great and the gardens beautiful (but disturbed by the awful round building).

I came here in October 2013 with my best friend and we had such a great time! When we first arrived we were baffled by design of the hotel- our room was absolutely massive and the decor what just something else! But the hotel gave tended to our requirements and offered us a twin room, with a sofabed as another friend of mine was going to join us a day later and stay for just a few nights. The bathroom was great idea too with twin basins and seperate WC too.

You could not be out of options for breakfast as the buffet had absolutely everything on offer. My only gripe with breakfast was that if you wanted fresh juice from the juicer, it was an extra 8 euros per glass which seemed ridiculous. If you're going to put on a buffet, everything in the buffet room should be included.

I was initially confused as to why the reception and exit was on the 7th and breakfast/back exits to the pool were on the 6th floor... until we found the lift in the back gardens to take us underground to the tunnel to the private beach! Now it made sense! The tunnel was so much fun for photo taking and general jokey video filming, but the service here was great. We had been given a towel card when we first checked in and the lifeguard gave us 2 massive beach towels each for the private beach. It's so nice to be able to relax without having any dodgy beach-sellers approaching us to buy random touristy stuff!

The location of the hotel is ideal, it's a 15 min walk to Terra City where there's lots of restaurants, cafes and a shopping centre. If you don't want to walk, you can easily get the KL08 or LC07 bus towards Lara and get off at Terra City.
TO GET THE BUS, you need to exit the front of the hotel, turn left and walk about 10 metres until you're on the opposite side of the road facing the taxi office. Then cross the road and you'll be on a side street called "1501 Sokak" heading straight on (with houses both sides and another small side street through the middle), keep walking straight for about 100 metres and you'll get to a main dual carriageway called "ISMET GOKSEN CADDESI". You'll know you're on the correct road because it's about 3 lanes wide each side and there's an outdoor furniture shop on your right as you approach the pavement. Cross this main dual carriageway and turn left, walk along the pavement for 20 metres and there will be a bus stop where you can catch the KL08 or LC07 bus eastbound in to town. The both buses stop in the old town and it costs 2 liras per person for the ride one way. If you want to go to the Antalya Museum though, take the LC07 as the KL08 doesn't go there.
On the way back, you need to keep an eye out the right side of the bus facing forward, we used the chinese restaurant on the main road as an alarm to press the stop button, because we knew that the bus stop after the chinese restaurant brought us back out to the side street opposite the hotel :-) And it's the only Chinese restaurant on the main road so you can't get confused!

We took a day trip with the hotel to see Perge, Aspendos and Side, which was a good value day out, it included lunch and we paid in liras instead of euros which meant it was even cheaper when converted back in to English £GBP. When my friend came to stay with us for a few days, we hired a car and went to Termessos, Karain Cave and Duden Waterfalls.
The hotel were great about us having a guest, even though it was only a twin room we had, we had a sofabed in the room and were only charged an extra 20 euros a night for my friend to stay. The hotel staff made my friend up a proper bed from the sofa bed, with towels, slippers, towel card and it included the breakfast buffet too so very good value for money!

There's free wifi throughout the hotel and lobby, and anything we wanted, the hotel were happy to provide. On our last day, we weren't due to fly until midnight so even though we had to check out at midday, they stored all our bags for us and let us still go in/out during the day and use all the facilities for the rest of the day and didn't have to had back our towel cards until we left the hotel.

We saved a lot of money by getting a bus to the airport rather than a taxi (our inbound journey from the airport to the hotel was about 55 liras in a taxi), the 600A bus from to the hotel was only 4 liras a person!!! You get the bus from where the KL08/LC07 drops you off (don't cross the main dial carriageway as you want to head westbound!) and the journey takes approx 40 mins. I've been told the buses don't really run to schedule though- we weren't planning to get the bus until 7:30 but allowed ourselves an extra 30 mins in case the buses were really late. Sure enough when we arrived at the bus stop at 7pm, the 600A showed up 2 mins later! You can get this same bus back to ismet goksen caddesi from the airport so for any inbound visitors, do check this out as it'll save you potentially a lot of money. We didn't know about this bus until we arrived in Antalya so worth knowing about before you come.

A few tips:
I know this hotel is advertised as a revolving hotel, but be warned that the entire hotel does not revolve! Only the penthouse suites!
Take one of the daily tours offered by the hotel, it's good value for money considering how much they pack in to one day and it includes all your entry tickets and lunch.
The hammam and jacuzzi in the spa are free to use and enjoy the private beach!
Enjoy the back gardens of the hotel, there's great photo opportunities all day and the flowers are beautiful.
Taking the bus can save you a lot of money compared to taxis and if you happen to be in Antalya during Turkish national holidays, the buses are free (unless it's raining- they capitalise on desperate people needing a lift in the rain)
Heading to the museum? Take the LC07 bus. Both LC07 and KL08 stop in the old town. If you want to go to Mark Antalya shopping centre, the LC07 stops near there.
If you're in the old town for dinner, head to the big fountains on Cumhuriyet Caddesi because each night at 9pm they do a fountain show with lights and music for 30 mins, great to see!
Save money and take the 600A bus to and from the airport if you're flying in. only 4 liras per person each way. A taxi will be about 55/60 liras 1 way to/from the hotel/airport.
Before you go back to the airport, make sure you eat something local because the airport food is soooooo expensive it's ridiculous.

Room Tip: More natural light in the ocean facing rooms but they're more expensive that the city view rooms...

This hotel is situated on the Mediterranean, with a wonderful view, and opportunity to swim in the pristine waters, even though the structure is perched atop stone cliffs. There is an elevator and tunnel that takes you to the water's edge, and a ladder to descend into the water. The view from this spot is stunning and there are wonderful chaises on which to sit, read, and stare at the scenery.

The rooms are very special with very modern decor and bright colors. Some may not like it, we loved it! Floor to ceiling windows afforded us a view of the beautiful grounds of the hotel and the Mediterranean. The large dining room offered a good assortment of tasty food, along with beautiful views. There were computers in the dining room available for free usage, which always seemed to be available.

One of the nicest hotels we saw in this beautiful city.

The Marmara, once again, managed to exceed my expectations. I emailed the hotel stating that we would be checking in at around midnight (to make sure that we would still have our rooms). I've found a plate of tapas when I walked into the room. What a nice touch. By far one of the top three hotels in Antalya if not the top one. (For me they rank #1).
