“Why you should not go to this Hotel”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

I was with a party of British people who have just got back from a 14 day all inclusive stay at the Siam Elegance hotel at Bogazkent Turkey.
On first impressions the .hotel seemed to be excellent but after a couple of days we were very aware of a lot of problems.
I will list these in the order that I was made aware of them.
The hotel which is divided into 3 main accommodation blocks has 1 main restaurant which opened at 18:30 for the main meal. Every evening there was a long queue (mainly of Germans who far outnumbered the other guests) to get into the restaurant. After we were let in (to an absurd clapping routine by the restaurant staff), one had to queue for either hot or cold food. As the restaurant was so large, the food was often luke warm when one eventually got to a table.
The hotel is situated in a location where there are about 20 shops locally, but it is quite remote from other centers of activity and buses are not advertised (although I believe that one stopped near to the hotel).
The only local ATM machine in the area only dispensed Turkish Lira. All of the prices in the shops, both in the hotel and the local area, were given in Euro.s (The shop keepers would take lira but made it fairly obvious that they preferred other currencies. (Sterling, Euros, German Marks, American Dollars etc)
The beach area was often dirty and groups of stray dogs could often be seen fighting and messing there. Many of the reclining beds on the beach area did not have foam mattresses and some of those that were there were damaged and stained.
About a dozen stray cats were often to be seen begging for food around the outside restaurant and cafe areas.
Most of the staff spoke very poor English and it was often difficult to make them understand what you wanted.
One of our party had an accident in which a chair upon which she was sitting collapsed. The management seemed unconcerned that she had injured her wrist in the accident, which was not her fault.
On the last day we were due to leave at 19:15 hrs and many of our party wanted to have a small snack when the restaurant opened. When we queued up at 18:30 (together with about 100 other people) we were told that the restaurant would not be opening until 19:00 hrs. (They had changed the time without telling anyone or putting up any notices in English)
At 19:00 hrs one of our party went into the restaurant and picked up 3 rolls to eat on the coach. These he carried out to the coach to be greeted at the front door of the hotel by a manager who said he would have to pay for these. As he had expected to eat a meal that evening anyway, he refused to pay and said that they could have them back. The manager refused to take them back so he put the on the ground, as the coach to the airport was about to leave. The manager then insisted that the coach could not leave. It was not until one of the travel representatives intervened that the problem was eventually sorted out.
The management staff seemed to have no idea of how to generate good relations between the guests and the staff.
We had arrived at the hotel on the first day late, due to flight delays so had missed our 1st evening meal. Also some of our party had been away from the hotel for 3 days on a trip to Capodoccia so had not had any meals on those days.
I for one, will not be re visiting this hotel.

The pools were closed or full with dirty water. Staff did not speak english. The best known phrases from staff were "go wait in your room" and "that costs extra". There was no information what so ever in the rooms. Good quality a la carte -restaurants were marketed for us, but no one told us those restaurants are not open this time a year. The expensive buffet was pretty much the same every night and food quality was average at best. Even a class of water cost extra!
Spa had one pool with cold water and the showers almost worked. Ladies´dressing room was dirty and small. Sauna was cold and dark. There was no information about spa in the rooms either, so we really did not know what kind of treatments they offered. The staff in spa, again, was not helpful at all.
The staff was unhelpful every where in the hotel and the service was slow, if you managed to get it. Any information of the surrounding area was not given from reception, not even a map.
The location of the hotel was poor. There were only few tourist shops and bars/restaurants nearby, though quality of service improved immediately outside the hotel area. Hotel would maybe be good for just sunbathing and swimming during the summer season, but there is nothing else to do nearby.
It was not allowed to take any food or drinks to hotel area from outside, where everything was much cheaper - even though there was no room service to get any snacks from hotel.
We felt that the main purpose of the hotel and staff was just collect more money from us, not make us feel welcome and enjoy our holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view, the other side is terrible!

A choice to be ripped off. Seems like quality, but like any of those all-inclusive megalomaniac hotel combinations along the coast near Antalya it'll gave me just fury. I don't want to pay 2€ for a glass of oversugared artificial fruit juice nor pay 15€ for a overloaded dinner where food looks nice but tastes nothing. Staff is more keen on watching your wallet than serving, and those huge spaces crowded with tourists are repulsive. Siam elegance in Turkey? Two nights were enough! Such a bloody experience never again!

We were offered to spent last days of 2013 and first days of 2014 in Turkey for half price and we got it- me, my brother and our friend with our wives- 6 person. We spent most of time in Siam Elegance hotel and we liked it. Rooms were spacious and clean, good meals, We could imagine noisy summer day in this huge hotel for over 1000 visitors, but in wintertime there was so quiet. The Silvester Party was great event with good food, wine, band, dance and entertainment. Great fireworks and huge cake when new year came. Very good, keep going, Siam Elegance Hotel!

Room Tip: Choose a penthouse room- very spacious, in two levels.

Stayed for a couple of nights after touring the west coast of Antalya, so we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves around the hotel which leads also to the beach! a choice of everything there & food is in abundance! wish to eat & eat but impossible as the variety is a great one! We were on all inclusive so wherever you go, inside or outside there is always something good waiting for you!! yummy yummy. pools are also fantastic & there are slides for all those wanting to enjoy themselves to the full! Being in this hotel makes you feel you are in the far east as it has got those characteristics, as the hotel's name suggests after all! Simply amazing! would surely recommend.....

Room Tip: I suppose that whatever room you get is good as it's very private, our room was facing the side...

we travelled as a family of four with 2 kids aged 10 & 8. after a late arrival we were given a duplex room which was fine but only had 1 bathroom ( not good when 4 people need to get ready for dinner). asked to change which was fine but had to wait till lunchtime the next day. was given 2 rooms with an adjoining door which were large and comfortable but overlooked the next hotels loading area which came with a lot of early noise.
hotel was not running at full capacity so no bother having sunbeds but the pool is FREEZING !! the sea was warmer lol. Daytime animation for the kids was great for my 8 year old and particularly Natalie was a wonder, nothing for my 11 year old though. food plentiful and ok but having stayed 5 star in another resort I think I was spoiled so much that this was really inferior in comparison but could still manage to have a decent meal. There is nothing to do at night out with the animation show which was just tack and no imported drinks available unless you paid. So good time was had by all as weather was fab but probably wouldn't go back, there are better hotels.

Period of time: August 30 until and including September 6th 2013 at building 1 - floor 3.
SIAM Management attention topics
The following areas of failing services were observed and communicated to your staff at reception and both staff members of the Customer Relations Manager Desk at the lobby without proper solutions.
I. Communication – on key positions (Reception, Customer Relations Manager Desk and Guest hostess in the food / bar area)) there have been no certified staff available (at any certain time) to communicate on a required level in Dutch, English, French or German about issues. Since the guest ratio is growing into 40% German, 15% Dutch, Belgian and 10% French – rest Turkish and East European, it is vital to adapt to this quickly as most of the issues are related to this.
II. Room assignment protocol - Upon arrival (10:00) our room was not ready and we had to wait for one hour in the lobby. After one hour we asked and we were told that it could take another hour. We waited in the lobby and observed two east European guests changing their room (and got a new one) while we were still waiting. I spend some time with one CZ person and found the cause for him to reject the room 1109. I find it strange that we had to wait for a room and he got an option IMMIDIATLY after making noise. The same goes for the other Russian Guests. When my wife got a bit upset for this, we were handed towels and been told to come back around 14:30. At 14:45 we decided not to wait for the bell boy and took our suitcases ourselves upstairs. And found the room be a disgrace for a so called 5 star hotel. The balcony was 5 meters away from the hotel next door and the beds were just a matrass placed on a board. Very hard to get in and out off and of course when you are in your 50’s the back pain started later the week as a result. These rooms should be sold as Discount rooms and not full price as we paid. When we complained the next day and informed the travelagency rep he was also told no change was possible till Monday (4 day of our 8 day stay). I told him about the fact 2 other guests could change with no problem, so I can only conclude that the hotel staff did not understand English or German from me.
These below are not discussed with your staff
III. Entertainment – During our stay we were passed by several times of the Animation team as we seem to be fallen outside their focus group. The team members of the crew clearly were focusing on the female age category of 14 – 18 and their attempts to attack players for games and or gym were borderline harassment in some cases. Since we were not of that targeted age group we will not complain about it as that is the right of the parents of these children. We do however are of the opinion a 5 star hotel should not allow this from happening. The same goes for the quality of the ‘shows’. We watched two and left before it ended as the show offended our standards and values on how people should behave. The trendy hints were so obvious that it became a non-go for the age group below 18. The shows are not fit for young children and young adults.

IV. Safety and Health – the entertainment area are twofold: the amphitheater and the pool areas. The amphitheater has only ONE entrance for entry and the same is used for exit from the 14 rows – 800 – 1000 people that can fit. The entry is a 2 meter wide downslope stone staircase and a gliding ramp for wheelchairs. I have seen no emergency exits for this and I cannot imagine this is up to specs for safety regulations. Your Customer Relations manager could not tell if the Fire department ever approved this. He did not understand the questions and started to discuss a fire that was occurring the other day. (see item 1). Pool area: The water in the pools is refreshed (I hope) by an overflow gutter that is covered with white plastic grid. During our stay (near the Suzhibar) we saw at least 5 kids and 4 adults slip and fall. The reason is that I have not seen anyone clean the green sediments inside the gutter. When the water floods into the gutter, it overflows the gutter and green sediments are draining the tiles. Also the cleaning crew sweeps all spilled drink residues into the same gutter and so vodka and rum are being recycled.
V. Courtesy – With the 40% German, 15% Dutch, Belgian and 10% French ratio it was strange to find out a normal condiment like mayonnaise was not available without asking. Even the Turkish cuisine uses mayonnaise a lot themselves. For 5 out of the 7 days we could ask for it and got it, but when there was a staff member with a ‘white-color’ shirt around the kitchen staff suddenly denied having mayonnaise. It seems as there were internal memo’s send around to reject a normal request like this
VI. Cocktail recipes – during our stay we were confronted with the fact no normal orange juice was available that could be used a bases to most cocktails. What was available was a nectar juice that was more sweat and watery than the normal orange juice. Also the same cocktail ordered by several of your employees looked not the same, smelled not the same and sometimes even tasted not the same. This is not worthy of a 5 start hotel
VII. Seat reservations – although this is something out of your reach, it does affect the experience of staying with your hotel. We have been to other hotels in Turkey and have not seen the effect of the behavior so strongly. We do have a theory why this is happening. We see people ‘reserve’ two sets of chairs: one set at the sea side front and one set at the pool area. This means that you are required to have the double number of seats to accommodate the demand. As your hotel is not able to expand its size around the pool, you would have to enforce the already communicated rule of non-reservations.
VIII. Diner seating at pool – starting at 18:00 some of the pool area is cleared out for the diner seating. At 19:00 most parents and children hit these seats to eat at first wave. Around 20:15 the second wave of people (mostly couples) starts eating at these tables. What is observed is that after 20:30 all vacant tables and chairs are being taken of the area, cleaned and placed at the side of the pool area. This must be a directive from management and understandable because of staffing reductions in the evening, but be aware that for the customers that still are eating, it is very disrespectful and makes people unconformable (feeling of unwanted quests). When you offer a 19:00 – 21:30 diner time, NO seat plan changes should be made during that timeframe. Cleaning sure, but removing tables is not showing respect to your customers.

Was it all bad? No of course not. If you go with the flow and reserve seats and dine in the peak times the sun is making up for th stress of the above. But we never ever go back to SIAM. Not even for free

Room Tip: absoluut niet in gebouw 1
