“THE WORST HOTEL IN KALKAN.........”
Reviewed 30 September 2011

Just to advise anyone thinking of visiting Kalkan... do so, but just don't visit the Samira Hotel... There are plenty of lovely hotels to stay in Kalkan so do some research...
The staff are obnoxious (especially the man on reception).. They only want your money and make you feel totally uncomfortable by constantly reminding you not to bring food and drink to the hotel (even a bottle of water from outside)... Rooms are basic and need a good overhall.. Not worth the money.. Pool area is noisy so if you have a room overlooking the pool then you are stuffed until at least 2am when they tend to turn the music off... Rude, vile people and I would rather spend my money somewhere decent where you don't feel like you are made to buy drinks all the time and are being watched like hawks if you have an extra carrier bag... Don't even waste a second looking on their website.... ABSOLUTELY VILE....

Been to Kalkan for 2wks staying at the Samira Hotel.
Pro's Very friendly Hotel Great Location
Its was spotlessly clean.
The Barstaff were great, Jack and Volka were so funny, and made you laugh all the time.
The Snackbar was super, good food and very reasonably priced
You need your walking shoes here, its very steep walk into Kalkan and not for people with walking difficulties.
Cons
All the rooms in our block were very outdated and it needs a complete refurbishment
The Bathroom was awful and the shower was quite dangerous as you couldnt control the water. The food in the resturant was unimaginative and lacking any thought.

Room Tip: Ask for a middle block room or go self catering.

We chose the Samira from comments made on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. Lovely location, spotlessly clean in all areas of the hotel. We were half board and found the food very good. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Turkish night is a must excellent value and the food was very good. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Room 201 had a fab view of the sea.

We stayed here for 1 week and found the hotel to be nice. We have visited Turkey many times and this hotel is good for 3 star Turkey standards. We were at first at the back block of the hotel and it was ok but had no view and awful shower that had a faulty tap and it was excessively hot and dangerous. We asked to move rooms and the manager Ergan showed us 3 rooms. The rooms we saw all had very small showers that you could hardly bend down in and im only small!!! We had to pay a further £60 for the room and the only difference was it had a kettle and a fridge so a bit excessive I thought but worth having a fridge and slightly better room. We did talk to quite a few people who also had the same problem as us and had moved rooms and been charged extra. No receipts were given out for the extra charges either!!! However, the room was cleaned daily by a friendly couple and bedding changed 2 x weekly. Air con was free and worked fine. We were half board and all the meals we had were very good and the chefs work very hard and very long hours. However, I would not recommend going half board as there are so many other places you can eat that looked really good. The staff work so so hard and are constantly cleaning, serving, being friendly especially Volkan and Mumin they are the stars of the show and very entertaining.
Turkish night was very good and so much choice, well worth going to.
Pool area is fine but sunbeds are so close together also people get up early and put towels on but credit to the hotel they did remove them. Kalkan is very relaxed and a pretty place to visit. Go to Patara Beach by Dolmus it only cost 10 lira return and entrance to the beach plus 3 lira for sunbed. Also went with Abi Tours to Kerkova to see the sunken city, its a wonderful day out and so very beautiful. Cost £25 each which is a minibus pick up, then a 1 hour very scenic drive to meet the boat, lots of swimming stops, cave visit, lovely lunch back at the Koran restaurant then back on the boat to Simena castle stop for a gorgeous homemade icecream, and wonderful sites to see of the Lycian tombs and ruins - great day out.
We would not go back to the Samira mainly because of the size of the bathroom was so tiny and you had to fight your way to even get to sit on the toilet, sunbeds too close together and because so many people were charged extra to change their rooms and not given receipts!!!
Must say though Dan the Thomas Cook rep was excellent and a credit to Thomas Cook. He was so patient even when some obnoxious man was complaining about his flight change Dan remained very professional throughout. Lovely lad.

Room Tip: Get an apartment not a room they have such small showers and awkward positioning of toilet

We have just returned from the Samira Hotel, booked through Jewel in the Crown, on a B & B basis. The hotel is first class, extremely clean and the best we have stayed in whilst holidaying in Turkey. The reception staff were helpful upon our arrival, showing us to our room swiftly. The room was quite basic (normal for Turkey), with twin beds (very comfy), bedside table and dressing table with a huge mirror and well placed socket for our hairdryer. The bathroom was fine, large enough for one person (who has a party in the bathroom). The only problem we found with the shower was that the water temperature could fluctuate whilst you were in there. Having said that, we soon got used to it and adjusted the setting accordingly. There was always hot water even in the mornings. The room was cleaned regularly and the towels and linen changed daily.

The staff were exceptional, especially Mumin, who had us laughing every day. What a special character he was, very professional, extremely funny and excellent with everyone, young and old. Volkan was another who excelled with his attention to detail and fantastic service. All of the staff were attentive, well mannered and professional.

The pool area was just great, with ample sunbeds, bean bags and seating. The staff kept it immaculate and the pool was cleaned regularly. The food was very good, we had breakfast and lunch at the hotel, opting to eat out in the evenings at the many wonderful restaurants in Kalkan.

The Turkish night was wonderful with more than enough tasty food and entertainment.

We looked around Kalkan and decided that we had been lucky to have found the Samira as its location was excellent. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone, for its quality of service, cleanliness, location, food and general ambience.

Room Tip: We were in room 901, on the side of the hotel with sea view. Basic room but clean and quiet

Have just returned from a ten day break staying at the Samira Deluxe in Kalkan.
A bit out of town, & very steep hill to climb, but a great way to walk off the excellent meals that the restaurants of the town have to offer.
The hotel is split between apartments & the hotel
Stayed in the hotel which is relatively new.
A/C provided ( free ) & PC's were available at no cost.
The rooms were well finished, clean a reasonably spacious.
Breakfast was the only meal we took at the hotel, & that was fine.
The pool area was spacious, & beds were in good supply.
Staff were attentive & helpful.
Only slight critcism, is the music around the pool was sometimes a bit loud, & on the last day we had booked a room for the afternoon, as we had a late get away only to be told it was not available.
Overall an nexcellent place to stay, & if you dont fancy the walk to town, taxis were plentiful & cheap, in addition the hotel runs a courtesy bus four times a day.
The surrouding area is lovely, with plenty of places to visit.
Would have no hesitation in returing.

We've just returned from a fortnight at the Samira Apartment/Hotel in Kalkan. The location is perect, Kalkan is very hilly & the Samira is just at the top of the main drag, but high enough to have a good view over Kalkan & far enough out to walk off your dinner!.
We were B & B, the room decor was fine, plain & simple. The rooms were cleaned everyday by a lovely couple. Only downpoint - our shower was pretty rubbish.
The hotel area is kept spotless, loads of staff at your beck n call, nothing is too much bother for them. Prices in bar & resturaunt fair n comparable to anywhere else.
There are pleny of loungers, bean bags etc for everyone, although its quite comical watching the staff return the loungers at the end of the day to there rightful place, making sure they're not an inch out of line!
A must is the Turkish evening, for 35lt you get a fantastic dineer & great entertainment - well worth it.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time here & would definitely retunr & use this hotel.

Room Tip: There are three blocks, the back one doesnt hae any view but is very quiet, although it has to be sa...
