I stayed 10 days at Hotel Pirat, in the building with the swimming pools. The hotel is ideally located for the fabulous area around the harbour, Old Town and the cafes and restaurants. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and great fun! I was there on my own but wasn't made to feel lonely at all. The other guests, mostly British, were all very friendly and it was no problem to sit at the pool bar by myself and chat to other guests or read my kindle.
The food is extremely plentiful, always an extremely large buffet for breakfast and dinner, with loads of choice for everyone, also lots of choice for vegetarians.
The room was comfortable, except for the bed which was very hard. I had a bath with a shower over in the bathroom, which was quite dark but there was always plenty of hot water at all times. I had a great view of the harbour and Old Town from my balcony.
I had a Hamman (Turkish Bath and massage) in the Hamman located in the hotel. It was excellent and the masseuse (female) tried valiantly to get rid of my tense neck and back muscles.
I also had my hair washed and blow dried several times in the hairdresser located in the hotel, for 20 Turkish lira (about £6) this was an excellent service although I took my own shampoo and conditioner to protect my newly coloured hair.
All in all, Hotel Pirat is an excellent choice if you're not looking for the luxury of The Regency Hotel or you want to be close to the Kalkan action and the pretty harbour and town!
