“Wonderful property, poorly managed”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Superb location, out of the crowd guests, very fine architecture, silent, wonderful sea, good food.

All drinks including drinking water is charged and too expensive.

Air conditioning is problem since it is old an archaic system, noisy. Do not expect wifi to work (Forget wifi, enjoy the sea anyhow)

Most of the staff friendly and helpful. But staff selection and training should be better than this. Especially older guys are not very suitable to this place, since they do not care about the guests' happiness and good service.

One of the best places in Antalya, with a very poor management. But still is the worth to stay...

Room Tip: If you select cheaper attic rooms, probably you will be moved to uphill which is far from the beach...

Well this place takes the cake. To be fair, there had been a major walk out by staff the week before we arrived. But steady on. If you are the owner of this hotel it is your responsibility to get your backside down there and sort it out. The hotel was unaware of our reservation, which is not surprising as apparently the books had been taken by the disgruntled staff. They must have wiped the computers also, who knows?
We were eventually given our room, awful. It was next to the spa (occupied by lounging staff) below the main restaurant area, which also doubled as the staff smoking area. And believe me, there was a lot of smoking going on. No privacy in this room as it looked straight out onto the path up from the pool, and offered no view at all, except oncoming guests. The doors could not be opened properly onto the little ground level porch, because the bed was in the way. There was nowhere to put your bag except on the floor and you had to step over it get around the bed. It had a tiny bathroom, but I've seen worse. The air conditioner was useless, and consequently I didn't sleep at all. Ordinarily I would have opened the doors, but being at ground level and the fact that they didn't open fully anyway, I couldn't. I spoke to the manager and said we needed our room to be changed which, after much dogged insistence we eventually got. It was a twin room, above the restaurant and lobby. Still no view, but at least the air-conditioner worked. There is a huge disparity in the types of rooms at the hotel. We saw some other rooms in the same price range and they were much more comfortable than our first room and some offered views. When we checked out they tried to charge us for the previous guests mini bar tab. We pointed out the fridge was checked 4hrs before we moved in, as per the docket.
If you want to eat make sure you're early. The food was pretty terrible I've got to say. The serving staff were wearing very unclean clothes, although I think they were probably ring-ins following the walk-out and doing a multitude of tasks. Breakfast juices are hysterical. They put me in mind of that outrageously watered down cordial that you got only at drive-in movie theatres (well in Australia anyway). The public areas were generally pretty dirty with cigarette buts on the ground etc. Wifi is terrible, seems to occasionally work in the main lobby if no one else is using it.
The hotel is quite attractive as you come down to Kalkan, nestling into the hill and running down to the waters edge. It's a shame more resort hotels don't follow the same architectural principles. Even the walk or drive through the hotel from the road is lovely and seemed to have an almost village feel. This place has the bones to be spectacular, but requires an overhaul and some rooms need to be culled. Maybe knock through some walls and make a staff smoking area where guests can't see them.
I wouldn't say don't go. But be prepared for anything. I really hope Patara Prince gets it's act together. Looks like a lot of butt kicking is in order from the owner down.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the water

Just returned from evening stroll to Patara Prince just to have a relaxing drink and possibly food.
Had read reviews and yes there are some lovely views and communal areas that appear clean BUT:
Oh gosh the staff are appalling ie they don't care, can't be bothered etc etc everything others have said. We spent a very uncomfortable forty mins chasing drinks and then chasing change. Forty three lira for three small warm beers and an apple juice.
Wouldn't mind but staff congregate in packs talking and smoking. No pride in service at all.
Quite simply awful.
Palm Beach Club it is then for rest of holiday.

My Wife and I have been to Kalkan and indeed to the Patara Prince resort before, that time in a villa. We loved it so much we thought we'd revisit and stay in the hotel this time. The hotel and the complex are still as beautiful as ever but Hotel management and food leave a lot to be desired.
Upon arrival at about midnight the greeting was not what you'd call friendly, exacerbated by several things. Firstly the hotel insist on full payment in advance, not a problem but for the bank used by the hotel not accepting full payment in one go, but in three pieces. This led to two sets of handling fees from the bank and the balance in cash, eating into spending money.
Getting to our room which in itself was nice and spacious, it did not have the sea view expected but a distant view at 45 degrees between buildings. Foolishly I asked for what we booked and was led, tired and increasingly frustrated around the many steps of this huge site, looking for a room that didn't exist.
Eventually the next day we were offered a suite with a beautiful sea view but paying a much haggled for upgrade charge. The suite in itself was nice but dog eared in places. The air conditioning did not work for 4 days in over 30degree heat, despite several promises to get it fixed, it was fixed late on the fourth day. Additionally room cleaning was not done for four days despite complaints, including a frustrated rant in front of other guests. This lack of cleaning also resulted in the failure to remove paper from the bathroom, which is entirely unpleasant as one cannot deposit it in the lavatory; not an uncommon thing in turkey and Greece which we accept, what we could not accept is the failure to remove it promptly.
There was a pool above our room, which on two occasions leaked through the wall of our room onto the floor near electrical power points, this was fixed after two days.
Food in the Patara on half board is cheap, repetitive very ordinary fodder consisting of nothing better than chicken thighs and minced beef or pastas and salads. We ate out in town on several occasions and the food AND service were excellent 'Salt and Pepper' in particular was marvellous.
Service in the Patara is also poor, particularly from middle management. On one busy evening we spotted an empty table and asked one of the two apparent managers if it was available. His answer was 'yes, no, a mumble and he walked off. The table was indeed taken by another couple which was a little embarrassing. We were eventually allocated a table, not by the manager but the friendly Chef. We also witnessed an altercation between the same manager and a client in the pool bar. A member of his party waited an hour for their food. Naturally the client complained to the manager, his reaction was impatient, rude and dismissive. Telling the guest to speak to his manager. This though did not happen and the Guest walked out very angrily.
The only pleasant members of staff were junior bar men and women, stand-outs were "Nadir' in the pool bar, a young man who worked at breakfast, though we did not get his name. The only manager with a positive friendly approach was "Ferit' the pools manager who, as on our last stay was always helpful and cheerful.
Such a pity as the hotel, Kalkan and much of Turkey IS beautiful, many parts of this Hotels management let the whole place down. Thankfully, overall we enjoyed our stay despite these problems, which we feel need addressing immediately to keep this place from going further downhill!

We rented a 3 bedroom villa which was very nice and had a beautiful view but wow I have never run into such surly, incompetent staff. The bell hop was insisting on giving us someone else's luggage, the waiter didn't want to serve us because we weren't staying in the hotel. The towel, and pool area manager was nice but way over worked. When we arrived with our Expedia reservations, it was very difficult to confirm with staff we were in the right place. Finally when we left, they tried to double charge us. When my husband clarified that we had already paid, there was not acknowledgement of the error, just more rudeness.

The room: TV, stove, oven didn't work. There were no basic supplies such as dish soap, tea towels, paper towels, kleenex that come with Interwest units. We weren't even sure we were getting a second roll of toilet paper.

We liked walking into town and it was about 8$ Canadian to take a cab home. The parking situation was a bit sketchy with the parking up the hill and no real parking lot.

We just decided not to interact with the staff all week so we really enjoyed the villa.

Quite possibly the rudest, most unhelpful and downright cantankerous hotel staff I've ever had the misfortune to experience, although I exclude one member of staff, Ferrit, the amazing pool and sunbathing area manager who always had a friendly smile and a helping hand.

The hotel facilities are generally really good. The view, main pool (the secondary smaller pool we skipped as it looked dirty and was always unattended) the views are spectacular with great sunbathing ledges built into the rocks overlooking the crystal clear sea.

We'd booked a room with sea view and terrace, this had great proportions and fantastic views, but was very tired and needed TLC. I opened the blind the first morning and all the cords fell off in my hands, the shower head was in desperate need of some lime scale remover and even though our bed would be made each day, any dirty cups and empty wrappers would be left lying around. They needed to spend less time creating hearts from towels on the bed and more time cleaning!

The drinks were massively over priced, the little ferry which conveyed you to and from Kalkan resort was overpriced, 5TL each way per person (this should surely be free for hotel guests), four of us ate evening meals several times at the hotel (we hated the place so much we made very concerted effort to escape) and on every occasion all would have cramping, bloated stomachs.

There are no evening facilities, except a pokey bar that seated 8 people by reception. They had an amazing bar area at the farthest end of the Cliff tops. This was never open or attended, why not?.. It's not hard to open a cocktail bar and serve drinks of an evening from here, enabling visitors to blissfully watch the evening fall in over the Mediterranean. There was a sign to a disco, so around 11pm we ventured there. Every available light was switched off on the multitude of rocky stone stairs, making the ascent down very dangerous. After lots of snooping around with the torches on our phones, we were greeted with a dusty disused room piled with furniture and no soul to be seen!.. Why?.. Again, they had another room located next to the sea, screaming to be looked after and opened up for the enjoyment of its hotel guests.

One evening around 6, I asked for an iron, only to be told there are no irons in the hotel and the dry cleaning is closed!!... It normally took 2/3 hours to iron anything and I had to hand in at midday the previous day. After pleading for anything so I could iron my own clothes as I had no intention of going out all creased, the manager begrudgingly offered to send somebody to the hotel cleaners to perform the task. I asked if it was free, he responded it was. 45 minutes later my outfit came back free of all creases. Two days later the manager approached me and informed me he was charging me as I'd had three items ironed, not one. At no point did he tell me any prices or charges for a singular item. I refused point blank to pay. When collecting our bill at the end of our stay he attempted to drop in a 70TL bill (with a different room number and signature on it) to cover this charge, I again refused to pay as I'd been told it was free. He then refused to listen to me and quite openly told me he was trying to find a bill for me to pay, even if it wasn't mine! (He'd decided I'd now had 5 items ironed) Unbelievable, and sums up the nasty, unhelpful and unprofessional service at the establishment.

Kalkan itself is a beautiful place, with fantastic restaurants serving amazing food and drinks all performed by friendly and attentive staff, but steer very clear of the Patara Prince Hotel if you want an easy going, relaxing vacation.

Having read previous reviews of the Patara Prince in Kalkan it was hard to know what to expect for our three day visit at the beginning of June 2014.

Hotel is beautifully situated a mile east of Kalkan, too far to walk to the town comfortably and a 15 TL taxi ride away, with beautiful views and a lovingly maintained Mediterranean garden down to the sea. A lovely 25m salt water pool and easy access for swimming in the wonderful and clean Aegean.

The main hotel is spacious and well designed but rather tired. We stayed in a suite which was well priced, very spacious, with lovely views but urgent in need of an overhaul and new carpet.

Plenty of staff to attend to your needs but desperately needing direction and advice to look after the guests. The management need to work harder! English speakers hard to find.

Annoyingly Wifi signal virtually non existent except at the pool side restaurant which fails to justify its epic location.

This hotel could be fantastic if it's management made a bigger effort.

A few miles to the east the Mahal Hotel shows the way to give guests high quality hospitality in a location which is only half as good as its royal neighbour.
