“Turkey's version of Monte Carlo”

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Firstly Kalkan.....what a place, too hot to sunbathe so it gives you a real chance to get out and about and explore (and lose a few stone in sweat in the process). Kalkan is a beautiful upmarket fishing village with some great surrounding villages and towns in either direction of the resort. Our first recommendation is to hire a Jeep. We hired this with no fuss and if anything were slightly worried because it seemed all too easy. Second recommendation.....get a jeep with some sort of roof - we both got sunstroke (stupid us). There is so much to explore around Kalkan and then even 30-45 minutes in the jeep there is some great sites to visit. Kalkan itself comes alive at night with the various different bars, restaurants and entertainment with the locals all being very accomodating and pleasant. The majority of the restaurants are all on the roof-top terraces which as the resort is on a downward slope, it makes for great views at night looking over the harbour whilst tucking into a mouthwatering delight and a gallon or two of wine!?! As for the Kelebek, the family are fantastic and we would definitely go back. I must say that this is probably the only place we would say that we would return to in terms of the accomodation. The rooms are basic, but what else do you want from a room other than a clean shower and bed when you are on holiday! A lovely pool and a breakfast terrace looking over the whole village makes for a great place to stay in Kalkan! Me and the wife enjoy being based on a steep hill when we go away as we feel it normally keeps the families away, this certainly fits that criteria, though not back-braking!!

Just some other bits while I remember.
1)The market which if I remember rightly is on a Thursday and is just outside of the hotel and is brilliant for picking up designer goods at a fraction of the price of even Primark! leather goods and local delights also available but best to go nearer the end of the day as they are more likely to offer you a better price!
2) Try the traditonal turkish in the centre of the village where you sit on the cushions and smoke the huukah pipes (spelt wrong I think) these are addictive! There is nothing illegal in them, but it is a great night had in there to relax and smell the turkish smoke and watch the local dancing and entertainment.
3) Pide's......when staying at this resort, walk down the hill for lunch and try the 'Pide' for lunch at the little place on the right before you hit the roundabout. We are still trying to perfect home-making these!

A great place to go, broke all my myths of Turkey!

Two weeks holiday in Turkey in mid October, to a small hotel in a resort that says it’s small, a recipe for disaster NO!
The Hotel is family owned and run and it shows, absolutely nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is simple good wholesome food, which the family take with you on the roof terrace. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Evening Meals whether you book half board or just BB and eat in are superb. We went half board and in two weeks every meal was different, and tasty. Stay in on BBQ evening and indulge in the food then wear it off with traditional dancing round the pool. Brochures say Kalkan is hilly, it is that’s true but from the Kelebek it’s a pleasant stroll to town and back, the area where the hotel is situated is quiet and within a residential area. Take a look at the visitor’s book when you go I really can see why so many people return to both the Kelebek and Kalkan.
Absolutely wonderful holiday

In September 2008, I rented Villa Lilyum in Kalkan, Turkey with 6 bedrooms/6 bathrooms and a private pool, for one week to celebrate my husband's Birthday with Friends. After an exhaustive internet search, I selected this Villa because of it's location in Kalkan, Turkey and because the owner lives in the area and has many family connections which proved very useful throughout our stay. Mehmet our host was extremely helpful and helped organize a very lovely full day boat trip on a typical gulet and took care of many requests. His Villa in Kalkan is new and in excellent condition, lacking only in some kitchen items; a good alternative to hotels. It has spectacular views from all the bedrooms and we used the huge third floor terrace for cocktail parties and one dinner (it can be windy). The Villa is an easy 12 minute walk to Kalkan harbor, but half of our group usually took a taxi back, as Kalkan is built on a steep hill. Kalkan is a fantastic town with many restaurants, shops and a beautiful harbor to take day cruises from. It's a great base to explore the coastline of Turkey and there are several beaches, water sports and activities to keep you busy. There are MANY Villas for rent in Kalkan, thus another great reason to vacation in this lovely town, plus the US dollar buys more in Turkey. We enjoyed the fantastic sites and very friendly, helpful hospitality of the Turkish people.

This is a family run hotel and it shows. Nothing is too much trouble and despite our trip being towards the end of a busy year we had a very warm reception and excellent service. Faik, the head of the family, appears to be able to be everywhere at once. He shares chef duties with his wife and between them they produce a wide range of really lovely food. Dont miss the lamb shank special! The views from the hotel (which apparently was built over a period of five years by Faik) are awesome. Kalkan itself is very beautiful with a lovely harbour and lots of tiny streets and alleys. To date there are no karaoke bars. Hurrah! Dont take too much notice of the reviews that tell you that it is an awful climb back to the hotel from the town. Yes it is on the side of a hill, but if you are apt to struggle on a slope, just use the stepped alleys and the roads that meander up the incline and see more of Kalkan in the process. The Turkish people are reknown for their hospitality and nowhere is it more evident than in Kalkan and especially at the Kelebek Hotel. We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and the owners, and are not in the least surprised to find that the majority of guests are return visitors. Thank you Faik and family. Rob and Trish

The Kelebek is a fab small hotel. We got rooms right on the front of the hotel overlooking the bay with a amazing view.
The hotel is extremley clean with excellent friendly service which cannot be faulted.
Breakfast is simple and served on the roof terrace but very enjoyable.
Just one word of warning the hotel is located up a very steep incline and is a good walk from the harbour front especially walking home. Kalkan is not the cheapest part of Turkey but is a really good quality resort with lots of nice restaurants.
