Reviewed 26 January 2010

My partner (now Husband) and I had been to the hotel a number of times before September 2009 after accidentally finding it on a walk with my parents one holiday. We have always had an amazing time there. So much so that we asked the owner Masuda if she would ever consider allowing us to marry there. Not only was the answer yes but within minutes she was deep into planning mode and clearly enjoying it as much as I was!! I think we were their third wedding but there was no risk of it not being slick or perfect. I gave a list of the kind of things I wanted and Masuda went away and not only found them but found things that were better! She arranged a traditional Henna ceremony for us two days before the wedding and invited all the guests in the hotel along with our extended family and friends who weren't even staying at the hotel. All the staff stayed behind after their work had finished or came in early for their shift in order to participate.
On the day of the wedding everything was perfect - every tiny detail and then some - the decorations didn't just include the white flowers I had asked for but things like fish in bowls, tiny evil eyes on ribbons tied to the base of each glass - incredible attention to detail. I spent the whole evening saying "wow" as I discovered all these tiny special little details. Once again the staff were all hands on deck to help - and also the owner's family and friends (an aunt actually spent hours spray painting stones silver to make an aisle for me to walk down) - I have seen the pictures of the preparation and can't believe the number of people involved - but not just that, the smiles on their faces - very much enjoying the excitement or the event. The staff once again stayed behind to watch - the girls evening dancing in the breakfast terrace above the garden where we ate and danced. I asked for ipod music on a stereo and got the owner's youngest son on his decks with his disco lights - fantastic!!! This hotel is wonderful - I read reviews where people complain about the size of the rooms - it's just a room and it's size is only indicative or the time at which the hotel was built - the bathroom has a powerful shower, the bed is comfy, it's very clean and the aircon works - what else do you need on holiday. The thing that makes this hotel is the great staff, great food and great atmosphere. The staff are fantastic - they can't do enough for you and you go away feeling like one of the family. We will always be grateful for the effort that was made for us and will always come back here - it's like coming home!!
Thank you to Masuda, Nuri, Dolonay , Ash and all the team at the Regency!!!! You gave us our perfect day!!!!

I have read quite a few of the reviews posted prior to mine and I have to say that I disagree totally with everything they are saying. The staff and the exclusive escapes rep could not have been more pleasant or helpful. From previous reviews I have read I was expecting a very small room and so was pleasantly surprised with what we got. We visited during an adult only week so no children to make any noise and so the pool was peaceful throughout the day. Views were stunning.

The food at the hotel was not cheap but it was welcome on our first night when you don't want to go exploring and there is also a good BBQ evening on Wednesdays. Kalkan town is very pleasant, it's about a 15 minute walk down the hill to the harbour area with many small shops and bars to visit on the way. A few of the good restaurants we found were Aubergine, Mussaka and The Fish Terrace. On your way back it is a little steep but it does help you digest the wonderful meals.

I think that for the money exclusive escapes are an exceptional travel company and I would recommend them and the Kalkan Regency to anyone who asked. If you go on holiday looking to pick fault you will always find it, which is a shame as the only persons holiday you will ruin is your own.

Hotel is tired and neglected. All the rooms a tiny and some very dark and dank and we complained to the management in the hope of a move. Received a rather aggressive response as thou it was us who were at fault despite offering to show the mould that was covered up in the room. Exclusive Escapes rep took the side of the hotel and told us not to expect European standards (despite how they sell the place on their web site). Whole place overcrowded and hard to escape other people or their noise. Food very over priced and poor compared to what can be had in the town – which is far more than ten minutes walk. As to the ‘spa’ don’t be taken in – but then maybe the rep is right about not European standards – best avoided. We have stayed in far better hotels in Turkey and been treated to really good service – a contrast to the surly attitude of managers and Exclusive Escapes reps at the Regency.

Just returned from Turkey having stayed at the Kalkan Regency Hotel for a week. We travelled with Exclusive Escapes who are an outstanding company. As frequent visitors to Turkey we chose Kalkan because we wanted to explore another region of this amazing country.

The Regency has very friendly management and staff but it is on a rather cramped site and the views are not easily seen from the rather small and dark rooms or from quite a few parts of the site. Sitting by the pool is claustrophobic and there's not much privacy.
The food is excellent but has to compete with a plethora of restaurants in Kalkan - so many, that it's hard to decide where to try but a fantastic experience looking at them. It is quite a walk to the centre of Kalkan but enjoyable, the walk back up the hill gives an opportunity to walk off your latest gastronomic experience!

Exclusive Escapes offer a number of well planned trips which enable you to explore this beautiful area by Gulet or by jeep and get a feel for the geography and layers of history that makes this area so special.

The Regency attracts a lot of loyal guests who are very fond of the hotel. It was good to experience Kalkan and the area but we would not return to the Regency because it was not a relaxing hotel as there was quite a lot of noise from the town and not enough space, there's not much that can be done about that.

We agree with the other comments but thought that the size of the rooms was fine. We had more than enough storage space, even for my wife's shoes! Food, service and views all absolutely first class and just as shown on the Exclusive Escapes website. Probably the best holiday we have ever had and we have had many all over the world. What a shame that we were greeted early every morning with the sight of a towel, a book or a bag neatly placed on sunbeds which might possibly be used much later in the day by selfish fellow guests!

We returned last Saturday from the Regency hotel and had a wonderful experience. We don't usually book a package holiday but the Regency was recommended to us and the only way to book is through Exclusive Escapes, who were excellent and hit the perfect balance, making us feel like we were independent travellers with a safety net!
We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived at the hotel. It is family run and has an atmosphere we have never experienced on previous holidays, very friendly, relaxed and excellent service. The food was mainly organic, grown at the owners mountain farm, fish night and barbeque should not be missed.
It is a 10-15 minute walk into town, not so easy on the way back as it is slightly uphill, we just caught a taxi.
The rooms are on the small size but well appointed and very clean. We will be returning along with the other 70% of return guests to the hotel, could not be a better recommendation.
