I've just lost the review I'd taken ages to write......so suffice to say this place hasn't changed in 6 years ..... Its tired and in need of some TLC ....... Most of the staff need a bomb behind them as they are completely lacking in energy . Food is pretty awful ....... Squash and coco pops ,cornflakes and raw oats could be improved upon .
The sunbed / swimming area is brilliant although I think as there was more wind , we went around the corner to the public area. This may account for other reviews saying that there were children allowed in an hotel were under 14 weren't welcome .
We have been coming to Kalkan for about 10 years on and off and we love it but we will be giving this place a wide birth in the future . Shame could be amazing given the location .

Room Tip: Make sure you aren't over the road 4 floors up .

My wife and I stayed here in Oct 2013, as usual I conducted some research on the hotel as we had been to Kalkan before.

The Kulube's Hotel has undoubtedly the best location in Kalkan, mainly as the majority of the hotels in Kalkan do not have access to the sea. The Kulube has access to a "public beach" which has parasoles and sun beds. Unfortunately as this is a "public beach" and everyone has access regardless if they are staying at the hotel or not. Although no-one tells you, you can get towels from reception to use on the beach.

The hotel bedrooms were spacious (we did upgrade our room at the time of booking) however we were placed in the the block of rooms 113 - 116 and they were tired and needed a paint. Our room 113, the shower leaked and unfortunately there was no hot water for a shower in the morning. I spoke to the Thomas Cook rep and other hotel users about this and I was told to "turn the shower on and leave it for 5 minutes as the water needed to travel from the main hotel to the room" to "the hotel uses solar power to heat the water up, so there is no hot water in the morning" either way I didn't have a hot shower in the morning, in the evening there was an abundance of hot water.

The Rooms do not have a TV or wi-fi, only a CD player that can pick up international radio stations. If you are the couple who likes to watch a film in bed then take a portable CD player. The hotel does have wi-fi at the pool area but this does not reach as far as the bedrooms; or not as far as rooms 113 - 116.

The Kulube does not have a "complimentary bus" into town (as stated by the Kulube Hotel Website). There is a Dolmus (local bus) that will take you into town for 2.50TL and these run at the following times; 10am, 1pm & 7:30pm. Walking into Kalkan is very easy, although you have to navigate a hill named "Cardiac Hill" this hill is approximately 300 metres long up a gradient of approximately 30-40 degrees, no fun in the heat I can assure you. If you do want to walk into Kalkan this can be done between 20 - 30 minutes; depending on the speed you walk at. However the sacrifice for the walk is worth it for being near the sea.

The staff were friendly and were very attentitive to the guests staying at the hotel. Breakfast was basic, you had to choose from bread, sliced beef & chicken, olives, cheese and eggs. There was minimal fresh fruit and when it did materialise it didn't look that appeasing, however at the markets you could buy all sorts of fruit.

The Kulube is a great hotel, great views and the sea location is wonderful, rooms are clean and staff friendly. They just need to spruce the accommodation and put a couple of routers in the hotel so guests can use the internet to watch films via netflicks etc or put a TV in each room.

We stayed here in September 2013 for 1 week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were helpful especially the resturant manager who provided us with a lovely continental breakfast after wandering down late to the dining room after an incredibly long journey and very late night.
The young married couple who ran the Turkish Bath were very friendly when me and my husband booked some treatments. They really put us at ease and were very professional. Its a shame the hotel didn't put a sign above the door of the Turkish Bath as although there were boards advertising the facility, it wasn't actually that clear where to go. We found it by chance and were very pleased we did, it was a great way to spend time on my birthday?
The bus ran to town 3 times a day which was a godsend. ...... cardiac hill in 32° heat is not for the unfit!
We would not hesitate to return to Kalkun, or Kulbe Hotel, it was a great holiday.

Room Tip: We had a lovely room, with a large balcony but strangely no balcony chairs....perhaps question this with management.

We'd read the reviews for the Kulube and thought it seemed the perfect place for a relaxing holiday in Kalkan. We weren't wrong! It's no wonder people return again and again and again.
Yes, some of the rooms probably aren't perfect - ours was supposed to have a balcony (according to Thomas Cook), but it was actually more of a terrace, without any furniture, but this was soon rectified. And really, how much time do you spend in your room while in a place as beautiful as Kalkan? The room was spotlessly clean and pretty big too, while the sheets and towels were changed every couple of days. The bed was comfy and the air con worked- what more do you need?
But it's the setting of the Kulube that makes it. Spread up the hillside, you have everything you could want. Amazing views, two pools, plenty of terraces and poolside to chill out on - and all carefully spaced out so you never feel crowded, and the jewel in the crown is the fact you can get into the sea pretty much straight off your sunbed. It's got several ladders and plenty of rocks to jump off so you can have a dip in the private little cove. We never even got a chance to try the beach clubs in Kalkan because we were so happy with our own.
The beach restaurant is a great place for lunch, albeit slightly more expensive than some of the restaurants up the road, and breakfast was fine. Plenty of choice of fruit, toast, savouries, and even omelettes. We had dinner once, but there was so much choice in Kalkan itself that we didn't again, but it was absolutely fine.
The only downside for some people might be the steepness. This is pretty much a trademark of Kalkan, and it definitely is noticeable at the Kulube. The fact the hotel's property extends down to the sea means that the walk back up to some of the rooms (they again are all on different levels) can involve a lot of steps. This was fine for us as fairly active people in our 30s, but smoe people might struggle. Equally, the walk to Kalkan is about 20-30 mins and involves "cardiac hill". We were fine with this, and walked most nights. There is a cheap bus that comes to the hotel, but it ties you to a specific time, so we quite enjoyed the walk. Taxis are easy to get and not too expensive, but some people might resent not being closer. Obviously, the plus side is - private!
All in all, this was a great holiday in a beautiful place with plenty of fab people. We would 100% go back to Kalkan again, and most likely to the Kulube. Can thoroughly recommend!

We booked at the last minute and got a very good deal. For the money the hotel was great. There are three pools but the little terraces at the sea edge are just brilliant. The rooms are basic but clean and more than adequate for a week in the sun. Breakfast was all it needed to be. Lunch time food was a little disappointing in having such a limited menu. Staff were very friendly especially Hussain by the seaside bar. I would recommend to anyone who needs a week in the sun without having noisy children around.
