“Friendly Hotel with Great Views”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

We booked through Exclusive Escapes for a week at this lovely hotel. Our flight was arranged from the private jet terminal at Stansted, giving us a perfect start to our week. The hotel has wonderful views across the sea to the islands. The relaxed and friendly staff and owners cannot do enough for you. There are a lot of steps but you need those because you will not be able to resist the delicious food. The holiday included a day out on a gulet and a free hamam.
A wonderful week. We will be back.

Room Tip: There are a lot of steps so check location of your room.

Having enjoyed the ambience and excellent experience of staying at Deniz, I delight in writing about this great holiday destination. Our hosts, Gillian & Ozan provide superb accommodation and are caring and considerate hosts. From the moment of arrival, attention to every detail is superb with carefully prepared rooms that are clean and welcoming.

The walk down the steps to the sea front is not for the unhealthy or weak hearted, but the 70 steps are worth it for the secluded bathing spots, comfortable sun loungers, a plentiful supply of beach towels and a friendly restaurant.

This is a great place to stay - only undermined by the credit card surcharge applied by Exclusive Escapes. They charge 2.5% at booking time - a complete rip off given that superstores such as Tesco's etc do not apply the same penalties. If the resort was not so good, I would have cancelled my trip - it makes me angry to think that all EE customers are ripped off in this way.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good - some are above the pool and breakfast area while others are below - good vi...

We loved the layout of this hotel with its eclectic array of pretty stone built red roofed rooms, winding paths and terraces arranged in the style of a modern day medieval village. The setting is wonderful with sweeping views across the bay. The reception area is rather budget looking and the approach to the hotel is a tad scruffy but aside from that it is a very appealing environment. Our Lighthouse room was well appointed, light and airy with a good sized terrace which benefited from full sea views though the interior décor was unthrilling. Waterfront and Pool Suites look well worth the upgrade but there are only 3 each of these and all were booked out so reserve well ahead if you covet these rooms. The hotel has a delightful private waterfront area and a pleasant pool. We had lunch at the waterside restaurant which is a very attractive thatched shack style space, a charming place to while away the hours. Service was friendly and fun but food was mediocre. Hence we didn't dine again at the hotel particularly as the majority of the evenings were themed buffet nights which we don't care for. Plus we enjoyed going into Kas where there is myriad choice of restaurants; nothing to keep Gordon Ramsay awake at night but acceptable fare and it is a vibrant and colourful town. Breakfast was an OK buffet plus a cooked food station and omelettes and pancakes were excellent. Service again was friendly, not polished but perfectly good and I commend the staff for showing no signs of end of season inertia. The owners were often present as were their two dogs Monty and Bella and the hotel has a welcoming laid back vibe and encourages mixing between the largely British clientele. There are an awful lot of steps so this wouldn't suit anyone lacking full mobility. The hotel is around 10 minutes drive from Kas centre so you are reliant on the dolmus, taxis or the hotel shuttle if you don't have your own wheels. All in all a nice, well run property in a picturesque setting with good service.

Having stayed in September for a week booked through the very slick operator Exclusive Escapes and read some indifferent reviews we felt we ought to add our opinion.
Basically if you are looking for a quality relaxing holiday in stunning surroundings you will not go wrong here. The hotel is excellently managed with obviously carefully selected staff backed up by the most professional and charming Ex escapes rep Steve.
The town of Kas is very pleasant with many nice restaurants and pretty cobbled white washed streets to potter around, it does seem to have escaped the worst excesses of mass package tourism which in this day and age is a rarity.
Much has been commented on the location of the property and its steps and this is true we would not recommend this hotel for anyone with mobility issues as generally you are either walking up or down and yes you can reduce the steps somewhat by carefully selecting your room. Basically the rooms beginning with a '1' have the best views but you will do the most climbing to enjoy them, the best rooms do get booked early.
Having said that in our opinion this is the only negative as the whole stay was wonderful so much so we have already booked again for next year something we normally do not do.
A big thank you to all at the Deniz Feneri for a super holiday.

Room Tip: Book early

Booked this excellent hotel through Exclusive Escapes. The hotel is wonderful and difficult to fault in any way.
The food is excellent, although the Ottoman evening food wasn't great; the sea front idyllic; the accommodation to a very high standard and the staff second to none!
The Turkish bath is memorable and to be enjoyed… don't miss it!
The hotel is set on a steep hillside and so this is not the perfect place for anyone not enjoying walking up and down steps (there are over 250 from top to bottom!) but this made the setting in my opinion.
The hotel lay on a small bus to Kas and the public bus runs from the top of the hotel where you can find endless restaurants and bars and other activities.
Will return!

Room Tip: Every room is wonderful. I suggest the Waterfront suites or the pool houses for indulgence, or equal...

The approach to the hotel along the Kas peninsula is bumpy and rather scruffy. Even the hotel's reception is unexceptional. So we were underwhelmed on arrival.

However staying in the hotel is actually delightful. Our room was attractive, spotlessly clean with panoramic sea views.
The staff are friendly helpful but not intrusive. The management by Gillian and Ozal was efficient and charming. The food was excellent both in the main restaurant and by the sea.

There is an excellent hammam with a complimentary visit thrown in. The gulet trip is also delightful. Our rep Steve based at the hotel was entertaining and very helpful.

One thing to consider is all the steps. You need to be fit to stay here! Also although you can swim off the bathing platforms, and we did every day, the access is via rather rickety ladders into deep water and so again you need to be agile and not mind swimming out of your depth. There are plentiful sunbeds and a pleasant pool - a bit chilly in late September.

The hotel runs a shuttle down to Kas each evening which is well worth using and we much enjoyed our evenings in the town.

Room Tip: All rooms can be pre selected on line. The higher numbered rooms are closer to the sea and the pool...

We found this hotel on the Exclusive Escapes website, when looking for some late summer sun in October, and opted to use Easyjet Gatwick flights rather than the private jet package from Stansted. This worked fine and the inclusive transfer driver was waiting for us and another couple on our arrival at Dalaman. The transfer is a good 2hrs but comfortable enough and the destination is worth it. We arrived at the hotel at midnight and received a warm welcome from Gillian the owner. We were quickly shown to our room where there were some lovely touches, including a complimentary small mezze supper if required, plus a bottle of wine for our anniversary.
The room (204) was lovely - bright, clean and comfortable with great views from 2 windows, with good size balcony with sunbeds plus chairs - sun on balcony pm.
Food wise, there was a good selection at breakfast including plus omelettes and pancakes to order - we got addicted to the latter! The lunch menu down at the waterside restaurant was nice and varied - ranging from mezze to salads to hot dishes and pides. Do try the not so "flat" bread and the pides (see photo). All very tasty. We didn’t try the evening a la carte but did attend the Ottoman evening. Nice but not outstanding food and, probably as it was late season, not many guests for the dancing/atmos. We also attended the BBQ night but due to bad weather this was moved from waterside restaurant to main terrace restaurant, and the food was then a plated selection, so although very tasty, did not live up to expectations - though not the hotel's fault. Other guests reported that the fish night at the waterside restaurant was very good. There are numerous restaurants to try in Kas and the other evenings we took the dolmus in and out of town - very punctual and got a seat each time for 2.25TL pp each way. Do note though that the hotel is quite far out on the peninsular - it's a 10min drive in and out, and walking into town is not for the fainthearted!
Hotel's grounds down to the water are attractively laid out and there are comfortable loungers and umbrellas at the front. The sea water was a more bearable temperature than the pool, although at the end of our week the waves were breaking up over the top of the sets of steps with some stormy weather and high winds. Very calm at the beginning of the week though, and water very clear - some fish to see when snorkelling but not much else. Some guest swam out to the rocky outcrop in the middle of the bay, but we only ventured to the bathing platform 30m out! We also watched turtles in the sea one morning from the hotel terrace - lovely.
The complementary gullet cruise is recommended, not for sightseeing as such but for a relaxing day in the sun with some swimming opportunities, and the chance to meet fellow guests. Therefore recommend you book this early in your stay so that you can then chat to others at the breakfast buffet and share experiences/tips - it's the friendliest hotel we've been to, without being OTT on the social side, and the staff and owners add to the atmosphere.
We also both took up the complementary Turkish bath treatment, which was fun, and my other half used the spa for a full body massage which she highly recommends. Do go out exploring though - we hired a car for 3 days and went to the stunning Saklikent Gorge, where we rafted in rubber rings down the river and had lunch over the water. We combined this with a trip to Patara's long sandy beach, backed by interesting ruins. We also drove onwards from Kas (enjoying great views over Kas and the peninsular on route) to Kekova where we went out on a boat to see the sunken city. This can be done as part of a day cruise as then you can lunch at a waterfront restaurant on the island of Simena which has stunning castle. We also went to Kalkan but didn't see it in its best light - mid storm, with streets running like rivers and the restaurant we were in flooded!
We noted that many fellow guests had been with Exclusive Escapes before and we can understand why - the company and hotel got pretty much everything right and we would wholeheartedly recommend both. Shame the company doesn't cover countries outside Turkey too.

Room Tip: 204 recommended. We also used twin room below on our departure afternoon (203?) which seemed much d...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This contemporary waterfront hotel has sweeping coastal views and awe-inspiring sunsets which reflect off the water. It has an intricate design of natural stone buildings with paths leading from the reception area through a series of pretty terraces - past several pools, garden terraces and impressive palm trees - to either the Waterfront Suites above or to the extensive private waterfront below. At a glance, the cool combination of natural stone with red roof tiles creates the impression of a mediaeval-style village - but Deniz Feneri is rather more up to the minute than that. Thanks to the considerable efforts of owners, Gillian and Ozan, the contemporary boutique hotel offers one of the finest places to relax and unwind in coastal Turkey.
