“Fantastic Family Luxury”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2014 via mobile

Palmyie offers the perfect blend of Club Med luxury and family facilities in stunning grounds, set between the sea and a mountain backdrop. This is a 4 trident resort but feels better, we tried the 3 trident Kamarina (Sicily) last year and the difference at Palmyie is far greater than the extra star would suggest. Having been here twice not sure we would go anywhere else, indeed many Brits we talk too are on there 3rd or even 5th time in one case!
The layout is superb, the pools, beach and village (or hotel end) are all within 100yrds of each other- you can finish your Mojito by the pool, check over the shoulder for wind conditions and decide to grab a catamaran in 5 mins (best just after lunch when wind is up and it's quieter). Best of all it never feels crowded, even in August when the resort is full you can always find a shady or quiet corner, or the opposite if you prefer! The village end is livelier with daytime pool activities and the evening shows, but never overbearing.
Specifics; Kids club very good but typically very Club Med French- our kids usually find a Brit buddy by the pool first. You can do half days or full days, over 8s can check themselves out.
Excellent watersport off the beach- good number of Hobie cats, windsurf, SUP, kayak, wake board etc all included. Parascending for a fee.
Village rooms are spacious and well finished, we had interconnecting rooms for us and 3 under 8s.
Food fantastic with plenty of choice for adults and kids. Finally direct flights from Gatwick at sensible-ish times. Recommended!

The staff really are the secret ingredient here. They go out of their way to ensure everyone is having a wonderful time.

There is plenty to do and eat. My only reservation would be the food. Not only has it not evolved from French cuisine in the 1980s (grilled meat/fish plus identical salads every night) but the dishes suited to vegetarians aren't labelled. The discovery of mincemeat in a couple of dishes was an unwelcome surprise. The exotic food nights were 'pasta night'. It would be nice to have evolved salad options and spiced dishes.

Other than the drab food it was recommended. Anything you don't enjoy you can easily avoid.

We just returned from a fantastic holiday and would like to share the following information. We are regular club medders so this is aimed at those who understand the concept. It should be noted that we went during school summer holidays when the resort was absolutely full, and there were lots of passworld age children.

Benchmarking this against Opio which most people visit at some time, it is superior in every way and I really cannot understand why it has the same 4 trident rating. We have stayed at La Plantation D'Albion which is 5 trident and we all preferred Palmiye.

Practical note one, there are no mosquitoes, no midges in fact no biting insects there at all. I am allergic and it was so nice not to have to worry for once, but I had brought half a suitcase of repellents, sprays etc unnecessarily.

We stayed in one of the spacious, beautifully equipped, brand new village rooms which we couldn't fault. However, our children are 14 and 11 and I think if I had small children I might prefer the hotel because the rooms have balconies with lovely views, and it would be nice to sit out there when the children are in bed. Also all the "action" takes place in the village so the hotel end of the resort is much quieter.

This is a very lively fun resort and there is always something happening, night or day. The GOs work very hard to create a happy upbeat atmosphere and the CDV is mad, always everywhere and seems never to sleep. We had recently returned from May half term at La Palmyre Atlantique which now seems like an old peoples home in comparison. There is a lot to do in the resort, water ski-ing and wakeboarding went on everyday uninterrupted by wind etc, and there are the usual other watersports.

Practical note 2 the snorkelling boat goes out twice a day, you don't have to snorkel and I would recommend this as just a boat trip for people who don't snorkel, but check which day the mini cub will be on board.

There is a good tennis centre with very friendly staff and you can play in the evening after it is officially closed, they will leave you balls etc if you need them. We were far too hot to play in the daytime (English!) and had to wait until very late evening to play even though many courts are in the shade. They have the usual fun tournaments at 5 but for us in August at 35c, too hot - we just watched.

There are 3 pools the village one is really warm water and the most popular, the hotel pool is much quieter and the adults pool is just lovely. There are not many beds by the village pool but loads of tables and chairs, we tend to sit on the beach and go to the pool occasionally so just leaving our stuff on chairs worked for us. There are usually beds at the hotel pool. The long beach is covered in beds and parasols and there is always lots of seating/sunbeds available. The lawned areas around the pool look inviting but get used for big snack etc in the afternoons so can get noisy. There was never a problem finding shade or a quiet area to sit, walk along to the end past the mini club if you want somewhere quiet but with children, the adults only pool and grassy area is the other side.

Practical note 3 we loved the beach, but it is shingle and you really do need water shoes to protect your feet from the hot stones and to be able to get into the water as otherwise you just sink into them. They are available to buy but are 35 Euros and sizes are limited. Once you are in the sea is lovely.

We all expect good food at Club Med, but the food here really is exceptional. The selection, the quality, the combinations were amazing. The food was far superior to Opio, and also to Plantation D'Albion despite it's 5 trident rating. I am vegetarian and sometimes struggle with buffets because french people always assume vegetarians eat fish. I have never eaten so well, this is the first holiday I never had to resort to eating pizza or pasta, The meat eaters in the family were very happy, but they usually are.

Service is incredibly good not just from the GOs but from all of the friendly helpful staff working at Club Med. Turkish people do seem genuinely pleased to be working there and that you have chosen to holiday in their country. People really do go out of their way to be helpful and to help you enjoy your holiday. A special mention for Cristina the Residential Manager who goes out of her way to ensure that you even end your holiday on a high note.

We were there for Bastille day so were fortunate to be able to see French people celebrating this in what we assume is a traditional way with goats, camels, horses, huge processions, carts, chinese acrobats and a huge display of fireworks.

For us this was a fabulous resort, amazing facilities, great accommodation, fantastic food, incredible service - we can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Village rooms are nearer to everything including the mini club but hotel rooms are probably better f...

I was pretty unsure about this holiday. I had read a bunch of negative reviews about the noise of the night club, the wait staff, the lack of English being spoken, the towels reserving seats all day - all of which we did encounter but was all part of the of the Club Med experience. If you don't like French being the spoken language, don't got go Club Med. I can't speak a word of French or Turkish but managed to muddle through every situation just fine. For us it was a bonus as the kids got to practice their French with the GOs and we felt sufficently removed from the UK and the stressful jobs so could relaxed. The kids weren't too fussed on the French speaking kids clubs so we got to spend loads of quality time with them!! Yes there's a night club that makes some noise, but it's a great addition to the holiday feeling having the full range of entertainment. Take some ear plugs if you're worried, but trust me, if you get involved in what's on offer, you will fall into a deep sleep pretty quickly. We tried all manner of watersports and all had a ball. The kids and I did the trapeeze (argh!) while the husband looked on, and the teenager got to pretend she was out of Hunger Games with the archery. We taught them how to play tennis (both on the court and on the table) and saw some wonderful shows each evening. We also did aquasize every day for a laugh. I wished I had done the Zumba (everyday at 4:45 pm), but alas I was usually three Camparis in by this point so thought it best to stay away. The food is AMAZING, just be warned that you will come back rounder than when you left. To address the other concerns: reserving loungers with towels - yes this happens and once your towel is down, it's yours for the day no matter how long you leave it (despite signs saying only leave belongings for 30 mins), but it works to your advantage also if you're doing an activity. You can ALWAYS get a lounger on the beach - there are ample there and it's a bit quieter. You can usually get one at the hotel pool before 11 am. The Village pool and grassy areas are more in demand so you have to be committed to get those ones. As I said before, I actually liked the ability to leave our stuff on our chairs for a few hours to go and do an activity. It's very safe - we left all our valuables in bags on our chair and nothing was ever tampered with. Rude wait staff - well, they've got to get 1900 people sat, fed and out again in the space of 2 hours so are more focused on getting tables cleared and ready for the next group than providing amazing service. It's all buffet anyway so you don't interact with them much. I just took to grabbing my own bottles of wine from the fridges on the way through to our table to reduce the amount of reliance we had on them. But to be honest, we had a few that were very friendly and helpful and kindly spoke to us in English to humour me. The only thing I didn't take to was the GOs sitting at our table. Very anti-social I know, but small talk isn't my biggest strenght at the best of times let alone when language is an issue and I'm ruined from a day of fun. We were in a group of 4 and the tables were set for at least 5 people so we always had a friendly GO come and ask to join us. I took to just getting several small plates of food and putting one in the spare place and we stopped getting asked. Don't get me wrong, they were all very lovely, just not something I coped with well when shattered and trying to spend precious time with the family. Well done Club Med - blew my expectations out of the water. We will be back.

This being our first ClubMed holiday we were not disappointed. We were traveling with our three young daughters and the holiday was everything we had hoped for. The girls loved the Mini and Petit Club. The GO's were absolutely wonderful, friendly and full of energy. The children were so excited about all the activities and felt very welcome at the Club.
There were many activities to choose from in our free time. The tennis lessons were great, the Hammam very refreshing and the adult pool (18+ only) very relaxing.
Even though the resort was fully booked when we were there it did not feel cramped at all. It was easy to find a space at one of the pools and no problem to book activities.
All in all a very well managed resort. Would love to visit it again in the future.

2nd visit as a part of an all-British family group of 12 aged 6-70. We all had an excellent time and the Club Med method of AI is indeed impressive, they essentially focus on the Food and the sports and both are 5 star, personally I went water-skiing, wake-boarding, wind-surfing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, jet-skiing and played Tennis on their amazing courts (with good rackets/balls supplied).
The food is absolutely brilliant and the alcohol is abundant and much better than in most AI (Beefeater Gin, J&B Whisky etc.).
So is this AI nirvana, not quite due to 2 issues
Accommodation - rooms are 3 Star, my Wife & I decided it didn't really matter as you are hardly in them, but nevertheless it isn't cheap and this is 2014... Odd as the grounds are beautiful.
Kids Club - this is a problem for British Kids, obviously not Club Med's fault, our boys are normally excellent at making friends but at 6&8 their French isn't quite up to scratch and so they struggled at Kids Club which meant they only went a few times and certainly didn't enjoy it as much as if they were with English-speaking children, of which there were hardly any. (Raphy said lots of English in May apparently).
In summary we would definitely recommend, but do bear in mind that whilst Brits are very welcome it is geared up for our friends sur la La Manche.

Room Tip: Hotel rooms seemed nicer than Villagio
