“Needs TLC”
Reviewed 29 August 2012

Returned home on 23rd Aug. from a 2 week stay in Sunlight Gardens we are a family of 4. Upon arrival we had traditional Turkish breakfast left in the fridge with bottled water. The 2 bed apart. were great , 2 balconies , spacious , very clean , hot water our only bugbear was the aircon. These are advertised as 'air-conditioned 2 bedded apartments' They are not ! the kitchenette/living area is airconditioned , it does not touch the bedrooms at all , I did have a word with reception , someone did come and tamper then left a spoon in the slot (this left the aircon on) an hour later a fan arrived , this did make a slight difference in the childrens bedroom although we did have to soak towels in cold water squeeze the excess to lay over ourselves to cool us down to enable us to get to sleep UNTIL 6.30AM when the alarm goes off to get up to go put your towels on the sunbeds !!!!!! Cos if you don't you had no chance !!!! This could be sorted with the hotel buying more beds there was plenty of room, if the hotel had more beds it would fill the slippy floor up and maybe stop the daily falls !

This hotel is really Full Board with a few drinks thrown in. You must eat at the designated times or you do without. Not all drinks included Big slush machines on display but you have to pay,

The kitchen, waiters, bar and maids work amazingly hard. Otto and the girls try hard too. Antony at the shop was lovely. My husband had a few shaves at the hotel he throughly enjoyed these, the lads in there are very entertaining. I had a pedicure in there too, the girl was very thorough I would definatly recommend as a treat.

Overall we did enjoy our stay here, but I would not return until I knew that management had spent some money on the place. Loved the size of the apartments, the balconies , the staff , the location is good too.

Things just need tweeking. . . . . . . . . More beds, All Inclusive = All Inclusive ! , Enforce the No towels on sunbeds before 8am rule. Plus lastly the silly rule of 1 drink per person after 10.30pm !!! yet at 10.25pm a 8yr old can go for 2 halves of lager for the parents !?!

More Money Needs Investing In Sunlight Gardens. . . . . . . . Our Holiday was made good only for the great families we met ; )

Room Tip: Block H was a great block , close enough but not noisy

My 16 year old daughter & I stayed there between 18 & 25 August . We arrived in the early hours & it was lovely to find breakfast & water provided in the room. The air con system needs a service & wasn't effective in the heat at this time of year & doesn't reach the bedrooms at all. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the maids do amazing designs with the bedcovers. A good variety of hot & cold food & plenty of fresh fruit is available at meal times.. Restaurant/bar staff are absolutely fantastic & work so hard despite the heat. All staff are very friendly & although most speak limited English we always managed to understand each other. Oto & his assitants (animation reps) provide the entertainment & all work very hard at trying to give people a good time. I was particularly happy with the man in the shop (didn't ask his name) who went out of his way to get an item for me. I will definately go back

Room Tip: The main road is noisy at night so if you sleep with open windows this may be a problem for you

We stayed at Sunlight Gardens for a week in August this year, we arrived late at night but were greeted by a friendly member of staff and were quickly checked in and shown to our room. The room was OK and spacious and in the fridge were some plates with a light dinner as we had missed dinner for the evening and there was also some bottled water. There was aircon but nowhere near powerful enough to cool the rooms, we stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, and the bedrooms were very stuffy.
Breakfast does not have much choice at all but you can get by, lunch and dinner are much better with lots of choice. The waiters are constantly cleaning the tables and it is always tidy.
The pool is good and you can normally get a sunbed without having to get up at stupid o'clock!
On a Saturday evening they have a Turkish night with camels and stalls set up around the pool, its OK but there is no traditional food as such considering it is a Turkish night. There is also a Saturday market just down the road near the Mosque, that is great and you get some great deals, they love to haggle!Be careful though as they will try and sell to you in Euro and a little if you ask for the price in Lira, so know the exchange rate to avoid getting ripped off!!
The hotel is close to a Mosque and it does have announcements about 5 x a day but you really dont notice it at all.
We had a room above the bar right near to the entertainment but as it finishes at 11pm this was not an issue but I guess if you have small children that go bed early it could be an issue. The entertainment was very basic but they tried hard and everyone tends to get involved.
There is not much in the way of a surrounding area and there are only a hand full of shops, if you like to look around there is not really much to do. You can get a taxi to Side harbor for about 15 Lira which is great, there are loads of shops, bars and restaurants and the ancient ruins which are amazing. At night it is all lit up and is stunning. But you have to consider its going to cost you each time to go by taxi, the hotel will call a taxi for you no problem.
Now for the beach! The hotel offer a transfer to the beach from 09:30am - 11:30am and returns between 04:30pm - 06:30pm but you can walk its not really that far. We used the service once but would never go back to the beach again, we felt like battery hens crammed into a space, you are shown to your sunbed, which is fine but the sunbeds are crammed into every space possible going right down to the sea, if you like playing games on the beach like bat and ball, football or volleyball, forget it - you havent got a chance. There is also a lot of rubbish on the beach like fag ends and bits of paper, this really isnt a nice beach :-( There is another beach at Side harbor that looked much better but we never went.
Belek is a lovely town with lots of shops and great beach parks and you can go Go Karting, the waterfalls at Duden are definitely worth a trip, they are stunning.
All in all we had a great time in Turkey but we would not stay again at Sunlight Gardens just because there is very little to do around the place and we like to do things when on holiday.

Top tip - To lock your door when going out push the button on the door handle in on the inside and just close the door, this will lock it. Nobody tells you this and when you try and lock the door with the key it wont lock!!!!
Also take your room key off the fob and leave it in the socket, your fob works the aircon and electrics so if you leave it in your room will be a lot cooler when you return :-)

we returned home Saturday 18th august after two weeks in turkey and we a family of 5 with 3 girls of different ages 15,10,6 this was our first time in turkey and we had a great time .the food was great, weather was very hot, and the hotel was small in lovely surroundings and all the staff and people was very friendly there was two large pools that were a bit deep for my 6 year old but she learnt to swim with a little help from a woggle which was great the pools was always clean!! they had entertainment through the day and night such as volleyball, bowls in the Turkish way which my 15 year old and husband enjoyed joining in also bingo karaoke,Turkish night ... otto the guy who works very hard getting people up and involved in the entertainment was great..apartment was in need of decorating but they were comfortable always fresh towels and freshly made beds from the visit of the maid daily and i would like to say if we had a query the staff was more then happy to help us out to make our stay more comfortable... air con wasn't working properly when we arrived so we went and had a word with reception and it was fix and lovely a cool by the time we went back to our room to get ready for dinner...i do feel that a family disco at the end of the night would be good way to end the night but overall our time in sunlight gardens for 2 weeks was great....... i would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of visiting side in turkey and doesn't like the hassle of a busy and large hotel

We are a family of 5, and returned from sunlight gardens on the 17 Aug. We had a great week there. We got to the hotel at around 1.30 in the morning, reception sorted us out and we were in our room within 15 mins of getting there. The food and water in the fridge were nice .The rooms were massive and having 2 balconies was nice. The rooms did get warm but being 45 + most days they were never going to be ice cold. The air con worked well in the main room but did not reach the bedrooms so it did get hot at night. We used the quieter pool of the 2 and the kids thought it was great. No probs getting sun loungers. The food was good, lots of choose and well cooked. The stuff done on the grill in the dining room was always very nice and the kids loved the cakes that were served in the afternoons. The bar did get busy at times but all bars do. The staffs were fantastic, made a big fuss of the kids and made their holiday one to remember. We did not like the beach much as it’s wall to wall sun loungers and no space for the kids to run about on, great if you want to toast yourself all day but not good as family beach. Side was a 35 min walk and well worth the effort, a photographer’s paradise. We walked in 2 or 3 times and would get a taxi back. The taxi cost about £5. Would we go back, yes .It’s not 5* but you’re not paying 5* prices.

Just returned {Sunday} We arrived at 10.00pm and was shown to our room, rooms are quite big two balcony,s,clean, good shower, always hot water, the only down side was the aircon,it was above the main door,so it was only cooling the living area, and not the bedrooms,I think the unit was in need of a service,I had to hire a couple of fans for the bedrooms as it was so hot at night.
They have a no towels on sun loungers before 08.00am,FORGET THAT it does not happen,i was up most mornings at 07.00am and all the loungers had towels on,some left overnight.
The food was o.k if you like sharing with the birds and fly s that seem to help their self to the uncovered food,There was a good variety of dishes but the same dishes every day, except the chefs specials,
There seems to be a lack of things for teenagers to do in the evening, there are two pool tables, but but they are so unlevel all the balls end up in the same pocket,we were with two teenagers, who with a lot of other teens were just wandering around bored,I think they need to invest in a teen club or disco in the evening.
Otto organised the entertainment, and works hard to get everyone involved, the bingo night is something else!!!
The bar area is far to small for the volume of people there, bearing in mind this was peak time and the place was full, alot of people used the sun beds to sit on in the evening,I think this is where thy need to invest, the bar had one beer pump which was slow so queues soon build up.
The staff were great,always smiling,
Don,t get me wrong we had a great holiday, meet some nice family's,turkey is a lovely place, never been in 45oc heat before WOW!
It,s just a shame, sunlight garden has so much potential if there was a little money invested into it,Just bear in mind this is a budget all inclusive

Room Tip: Get one with a new aircon unit if you go in august!

We stayed here in 2008 which was a long time ago but we find it to be a most enjoyable holiday. Staff were friendly enough (give or take one or 2) but we actually enjoyed it that much we went back the year after which was fun as a lot of the staff from the year before remembered us. Food was nice and entertainment was good especially the childrens disco. Not to far away from th ebeach but there is a bu sthat takes you anyway if you don't fancy walking. From what I do remember I would recommend it for sure.
