“Wall to wall sunshine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2012

After seeing other poor, albeit old reviews, wasn't really forward to staying at this hotel and the chaos experienced to get there didn't help. However, apart from a leak in the bathroom, which was quickly dealt with, although on a short term measure as the leak appeared again before we left, the hotel was not as a bad as fear. Admittedly wouldn't rate it as a 4 star, it may have been when first opened, but the hotel is now dwarfed by bigger, newer hotels, and we have stayed in better for less, but it adequately suited our needs of a week away in glorious sunshine. Only downside for anyone with mobility problems is that many of the rooms are situared in blocks, each have three floor levels and there are no lifts.
The hotel does tend to cater more for Germans and Eastern Europeans (did at one point feel that we were the only English couple there), but contrary to previous reviews the staff were friendly enough.
In comparison with some other hotels we have stayed at this hotel does have a large amination team and there were one or two members of the team that you did wonder what they actually did, but again they were friendly. Thank you to Ithibar for the morning stretches and afternoon step exercise and belly dancing. My concern with the amination team was that they were selling amination t-shirts, probably in a bid to supplement their income, which could cause some confusion for new holiday makers on arrival if they didn't know who was who. There is an amination team notice board with the team's photos but this only went up on our last day. Whilst the team were quite active during the day the evening entertainment wasn't always the best, though there were a few nights when entertainment was brought in, unfortunately it didn't always last that long either.
Food was plentiful and edible throughout most of the day, but best to have food earlier, especially in the evening, as that is when any extras were put on and when they were gone, they were gone. Meal times finished at the time stated, evening meal is scheduled to end at 9pm and staff ensured that it was finished at 9pm there were no lingering around. If you were still hungry there is also late night soup which was brought out earlier and earlier each night then the time orginally stated.
At the entrance of the hotel they had their own animal pens, with chickens, hens, ducks, rabbits, birds, even some pups, which were fascinating to watch each day and ideal for young children.
The area where the hotel is situated is OK, a few minutes walk to the main street for the dolmus to Side, which at 1.5 euro, is better price than our local public transport and the town centre of Kumkoy is under development but its going to look good when finished. The beach is a minute or two walk away from the hotel and the whole beach front/walkway is well maintained.
Overall would recommend this hotel.

We were at the hotel last August with two children aged 16 and 5. The hotel category is max.3 stars, absolutely do not agree with 4 stars ! The location is very good ( sea, bazar and dolmus stop is about 5 min., Side is absolutely excellent place) but this is all ! Staff on the reception is rude and unhelpful. Staff responsible for cleaning rooms and surrounding is very lazy - hot weather , I know :-)) They prefered sitting and smoking directly next to our room. Meal is OK, especially breakfast. But you have to love domestic animals like big dogs, cats and chicken that are walking cross the restaurant while you are eating. The dog is also drinking the water from the pool, so thirsty. This was our worst holiday we have ever had so please do not make the same mistake as we did!

In total agreement with lynn & Cozza and the Peters. I have to say our hotel room was clean and can't fault problems with it. But the food was a disgrace it was cold and very repetitive you would have the same meal for tea then lunch and tea the next day, how can you go wrong with chips they haven't quite mastered that yet. Weight Watchers would do well to sign this hotel up. There were also too many cats around in the dining area. The staff didn't seem to understand when you went to complain and the waiting staff were rude and ignorant. The Brits seemed to be last in line to be waited on. We were aware the hotel catered for the Germans but everything was in German the kids club the entertainment as for translating it was very brief if you can call it that. We were very fortunate that we met a good crowd and made our own entertainment and only through the crowd being boisterous did the entertainment staff involve us on the last night. The pool area where the slides were were unsafe many people were hurt my partner ended up with a large gash down the back of his leg. The pool attendant was either sleeping or on his mobile phone. In he end the parents took it in turn to supervise the area. The weather was fab thank god but have to say would not recommend this hotel in a hurry. This is definitely not a 4 **** hotel you just need to read through the comment book in the reception area comments very strong not for children's eyes. Must say rep very nice and did offer to move us to another hotel which we would have taken up her offer but we only had 4 days left to go.

The right up from Thomson about this hotel is all lies. There was no games room, internet access, satellite TV, Children's menu, gardens, caberet, karaoke, Minibar, I could go on. Just got back - had a gr8 holiday as we always make sure we do but this hotel is appalling. It is the worst we have ever stayed in. There was a serious lack of Health & Safety around the pool area and we found a dead frog in the pool. When we reported it, it was taken out of the pool but the pool was not closed for cleaning. It just was not cleaned!!! As a family we are very out-going and like to join in all activities. We knew this hotel was predominately German but this did not bother us as whenever we go on holiday we always meet Germans and like to mix with them. What did bother us , the staff were rude, made no attempt to mix with the Brits, we were not welcome in any activity from the kids club to the night time entertainment (even how bad it was). When there was evening entertainment, the staff did not even translate what was happening in English and we were not invited to join in. The few Brits that were in this hotel were thrown 2getha as we were outnumbered and felt unwelcome. Because of this, we have met some gr8 people and we did laugh about it, otherwise I'm sure there would be tears! Hotel room was clean but I believe this was the cleaning staff on your block as other Brits had terrible rooms. However, the electric socket was hanging off the wall in our room. Food was disgusting. Every lunch and dinner was the same - no variety and everything was cold. I believe there has been no Thomson representative staying at this hotel prior it been advertised in the Thomson brochure. Even the resort of Kumkoy and Side were predominately German and are not as close as the brochure states. All in all, as already stated, we are a very out-going family and did have a gr8 holiday simply because we can make our own entertainment and when paying so much money for your annual family holiday, you have to enjoy it!!! Think - do you know anyone that has being on an all-inclusive holiday and LOST weight!!!!!! STAY AWAY

I booked with Thomson at the Hotel Club Belinda near Side in Turkey with my partner and five year old daughter. Promoted as a Thomson four star hotel all inclusive at the time of booking. I have travelled, worked and lived abroad for over twenty years and can honestly say this ranks as one of the worst hotels and holidays I have ever had.

Our nightmare started when we arrived at the hotel at 23:00 and the room we had booked was not ready. It took over an hour to resolve the situation with the reception staff who would not speak English, we later found out they could. We eventually got to bed at half past one in the morning already upset at how our holiday had started and the way we had been treated.

In the morning we were told that the hotel did not provide beach towels and that we had to purchase these from the hotel shop. All inclusive does not include beach towels? The towels we purchased were poorly manufactured and once wet the dye ran out and turned anything near them pink.

The Thomson description showed the beach a stones throw away from the hotel, in fact was down a grubby dirt track which was sprayed with water making it muddy and covered in the excrement from dogs and camels.

We had lots of problems with our room, number 904, during our stay which included:

• The toilet blocking;
• The shower door sticking shut;
• The wardrobe door falling off;
• The patio door lock not working;
• The air-conditioning failing;
• No towels would be left after cleaning room; and
• Power cuts.

Despite several phone calls to reception and hours of waiting for things to be fixed nobody ever came. I ended up fixing all of these things apart from the power cut myself with some improvised tools. I spent part of my birthday, fixing the toilet and regretting every penny I had spent with Thomson.

In general the whole hotel looks tired and run down, how it ever had four stars is a mystery, having had three other holidays with TUI companies I would rank this hotel one or two stars at most. The paths around the hotel are covered in grass and weeds and are broken in many places with tripping hazards. There are several fans missing outside in the restaurant seating area, which are needed as the temperature was over 39 degrees. Generally the stone work and painting of the facility was poor and shoddy. Our shower was stained and the bathroom had dim lights and was not a place where I could spend any time getting ready as it disgusted me.

In general the staff were rude and obnoxious, I noticed that the waiters in the restaurant area would regularly push customers out of the way; they only tried it once with me and knew not to do it again. They also would not take drinks orders the whole holiday. The reception staff could not provide basic things like a map of the local area or any advice on things inside or outside of the hotel or even be courteous.

I have no problem with holidaying with other nationalities, it is one of the reasons we travel abroad for our holidays, but the only language spoken during the entertainment, children’s songs and by staff was German. This was a hotel catering for other TUI Brands Holland International and 1-2-Fly not Thomson.

The life guards did not control how people used the waterslides and several people including myself were hurt, as children and adults did not wait for one person to be clear at the bottom of the slide before the next person came down. Regularly you would see several people coming down at the same time. The slides would shut at five o’clock but the gate lock was broken every day and children were left to help themselves and continue to use the slides even by climbing up them. We saw several children hurt again.

If you have already booked, cancel and book somewhere else.
