Reviewed 6 June 2012

We stayed at the Hemera from 17th to 31st May 2012. My wife's parents had recommended the hotel to us, so we were expecting it to be very good, but it surpassed our expectations in almost every respect.

Our room (2115) was on the first floor just to the side of reception, and, while not sumptuous, and with a poor balcony position, was perfectly adequate. There was a fruit basket to welcome our arrival and the minibar was stocked daily with soft drinks and bottled water. The walk-in shower room was brilliant and the double bed very comfortable (though some might find it a little firm). The air-conditioning was fully adjustable, but only worked while you had your room key inserted. The room had a largish flat screen TV but with limited English channels. We watched the Eurovision final on the Turkish channel (starting 2 hours later in Turkey than UK). The room also had a free safe and free Wifi (up to 1GB) which, for a very small fee (5TL) could be increased to 5GB. Towels were changed daily and the room kept very clean.

The weather while we were in Side was sunny and warm most days, with some broken cloud. Temperatures peaked at about 25-28 degrees. We had only one wettish day and a couple of other days at the beginning of our stay which were cloudy. A cloudy day provides a good opportunity (which we took) to walk along the new promenade into Side to explore the shops, bars, and amazing ancient ruins (you will need to take some TL or Euro coins for the public WCs). The walk along the prom is about 2 miles.

Unlike (apparently) some Turkish hotels, the Hemera has a sizable British clientele (with about the same number of German and also a goodly Russian contingent). It made for a comfortable international mix, with all nationalities seemingly treated equally by the staff. All the reception, waiting and bar staff could understand and speak English and German well. I don't know how the Hemera recruits employees, but all the staff, without exception, were absolutely amazing - unhurried, friendly, courteous, attentive, and all seemed to really enjoy their work. Many other reviewers have commented on the fine entertainment team and we really don't know how they managed to be so full of energy and enthusiasm all and every day and night! The two comedy shows they put on while we were there were somewhat lame (though amusing) but the dance shows were exceptionally good, with some real talent among the team. There were also a couple of nights where other acts were brought into the hotel - Chinese Shaolin performers and Chinese acrobats - both were fantastic. The nightly shows are held on a large outdoor stage at the beach bar (weather permitting) and often attracted a good audience of onlookers from those walking past the hotel. We were also lucky enough to be there during the 2-day Side air display which was spectacular and which we watched from the comfort of our beach loungers! Several of the pilots and crew later dined at the hotel!

The pools at the Hemera (which include an indoor pool) are fresh water and very clean, with pH and temperatures for each pool displayed. However, we only spent one day by the pool as the hotel beach (separated from the hotel only by the 10ft wide promenade) was even better. The beach loungers are very comfortable, with good size parasols which are nicely spaced out, giving plenty of room to move the loungers to follow or shade from the sun. We had no trouble getting loungers each morning, though on the finest days these all became taken by about 9am. The beach has a Blue Flag for cleanliness and was well maintained. The sea was warm enough to swim in but you have to be careful with patches of rocks underfoot that you can't always see and that could bruise, scratch or even cut your feet. Importantly for us, the beach was quiet - no blaring canned music. Also there weren't large numbers of children while we were there, and most of these were preschool and all were well behaved.

The food at the Hemera was consistently very good, providing much variety including sufficient and tasty vegetarian options. Most days we ate lunch at the adjacent beach bar. The main restaurant has the usual buffet service and plenty of seating, including outside terraces. The waiting staff bring drinks to your table and we were never kept waiting more than a couple of minutes. The hotel also has three excellent a la carte restaurants (Fish, International and Turkish) which you book at least 24 hours in advance - the all-inclusive package allowed us to dine once each at these, plus taking an a la carte Turkish breakfast (which we didn't bother with).

In addition to main meal times (and a midnight buffet), there are mid-morning and afternoon snacks, including icecream, crepes, patisseries, desserts and popcorn, also pizzas, burgers, chips and omelettes. The four bars all serve the full range of beer, wines, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks (including bottled water) and we never had to wait long to be served at the bar or at our table. The spirits all seemed to be full-strength and the bar staff were very generous with the cocktail mixes! The local lager (Efes) is very good and the red, white and sparking house wines all perfectly acceptable.

Overall, the all-inclusive package at the Hemera is amazingly good value and incredibly convenient. There is no wrist-band or lanyard to wear (though you need to keep your key with you at all times) and no signing for drinks. And you don't need to carry cash around with you while in the hotel, although there are tip boxes in all restaurants and bars for when (as you will!) you want to show your appreciation of the excellent staff. There is even a tip box for the hotel's resident population of cats - the kittens were very cute!

Other (non-inclusive) facilities at the hotel usefully include a Doctor's surgery, shops, opticians, hairdressers, and massage treatments.

We left late on our departure day and weren't able to arrange a late check out from our room (checkout time is 12 noon). But all the hotel facilities were still available to us throughout our last day, and the hotel has a Courtesy Room for showering and changing before leaving for the airport.

All in all we had a brilliant time at the Hemera, would recommend it VERY highly, and certainly intend to return there!

From start to finish we wanted for nothing on this holiday, everything to hand, and excellent staff and animation team. Plenty of varied food to suit everyone, attractively laid out.The hotel grounds are beautifully kept, everywhere is spotless, even the promenade that leads into Side.
We didn't want to come home. Our room overlooked the pool, and after "a hard day in the sun", it was good for people watching we cooled down.
Our room had a double and two single beds, even though we travelled as a couple. The fridge was restocked daily, alongside the cleaning and bed and towel change. Beach towels were provided in a beach bag, and could be changed at will. We enjoyed the entertainment, as the Animation team worked hard, as well as providing the daily games. Guests were made to feel welcome by all. Thankyou Hemera, we hope to visit again soon.

We have just returned from another 2 weeks stay at the Hemera. As the other reports say it is wonderful with so much or so little to do just as you wish. We asked for a top floor room but ended up in a ground floor room with a bank of soil as the view - although the room was for a family so we had plenty of space the location was rubbish!!!. With a vist to the front desk stating our concerns we were shown a room over looking the pool on the second floor level - it was great we had sunshine in the morning to wake us up. It was no hassle to move and the porter sorted out the keys and luggage. The standards of the hotel are excellent - staff are always obliging nothing too much trouble. Food is always good and as much as you like with bars open for those drinks that you need (not always alcoholic). The special resturants are also good for a change from the main one. The beach is well looked after and the beach boy(man) is more than helpful. We have tried other Barut hotels but we have come back to the Hemera for the second time and will return again I am sure. Just returned from a lovely weeks stay at the Hemera, with my two sons 18 and 11 and my parents who have been here before.Really didn't want to leave! Lovely resort nothing negative to say about it, apart from where our room was situated as it had no view. Entertainment team were fantastic it was the first time that while on holiday that my husband and myself have joined in activities during the day my husband especially enjoyed the archery and rifle shooting and the darts. Glad i joined in the aqua gym as ate and drank to much! Good choice of food and alcohol. Alcohol available 24hrs in the lobby bar. Made friends that we will keep in contact with. Our 11year old found plenty to do.
All the staff work incrediably hard. Our room was always spotless. Loved the dressing gowns and slippers in the room and free safe and mini bar.Would defiantly return to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Would try and stay in deluxe block. Or ask for a room with a view.

Very impressive hotel and beautiful gardens. We have just returned from a very lazy week at the Hemera.

The rooms and hotel grounds are spotlessly clean and the staff are mostly helpful and friendly.
We stayed in room 4516 which was in the deluxe block. When we arrived I wasn't too happy that we had twin beds instead of the double we had requested but when I spoke to reception they quickly put a foam thing between the beds to make it into a large double and it was comfortable enough that we didn't have to change rooms.

The hotel was pretty quiet during the day with things going on if you wanted to join in, I wasn't keen on the choice of music that was played around the pool and think they could have pumped it up a bit for the water aerobics that I joined in with every day but I guess not everyone enjoys loud music. There was no pressure to join in either the club dance or any activities if you didn't want to.

Evening entertainment is better than most hotels we've visited in Turkey and the entertainment team really work so hard at it. It was nice not having to go out for entertainment, we enjoyed the 'Mr Hemera' evening even if it went on a little bit too long!

There is a pleasant walkway that runs alongside the beach and takes you directly to Side. It takes about half hour but is worth doing and there you can see historical sites or plenty of shops selling trinkets and cheap viagra!

The hotel food was nicely presented and yes it does get a bit 'samey' but I am a very fussy eater and always found plenty to fill me up. The food in the International A la carte restaurant was delicious and the staff are very attentive, I wouldn't bother going to the Saffron restaurant again though, it was pretty mediocre.

The gardens are lovely and a credit to the hardworking gardeners that are there every day sweeping leaves and keeping things tidy. Lots of the trees and shrubs are labeled which is a nice touch and saves you wondering what they are called if you are old buggers and into flora and fauna.

Overall, we wanted a lazy chilled out holiday, we went nowhere and did nothing and the Hemera suited us just fine!

Oo, I nearly forgot to add that the spa is well worth a visit......probably overpriced but hey you have to treat yourself on holiday don't you?!

Room Tip: 4516 was roomy and had a good view.

Literally just returned from the Hemera resort (this morning). Spent 10 nights there, we all had a fantastic time. The entire resort was very well presented, the staff were helpful and food & drink was great. Recommend visiting the Al a carte restaurants, as the service & quality was A1.
The bars provide a good selection of drinks, including kiddies cocktails, which our ones loved.
Evening entertainment was of a good standard, including the mini disco. The resort was certainly a safe environment for the little ones, although did see one little boy come close to drowning, as with most overseas hotels / resorts, lifeguards are not commonplace, so parents...keep a close eye on the little ones!!
the only downside we found was the noise in the mornings around our room, but talking to others this was not a common problem.
The weather was great, about 28 degrees most days.
Side town is about a 40 min leisurely stroll & definitley worth the while, to see the ruins in the old town & shopping, although the shopkeepers did not seem to haggle with the prices too much. But they also didn't harass too much either..apparently a new law was recently passed stating that they cannot leave their shop front to cause you up the street, so a more relaxed atmosphere.

Would i stay again....defintely yes.

Well worth a visit. Staff work tirelessly to keep the hotel and grounds spotlessly clean. Value for Money here, Food and drink on tap. If you are thinking of giving this Hotel a visit , then do it. You won't be disappointed. We Had a great time. Loved it.

We went in late May 2012 which was early season. Temperature was on average 25C, although our first day was Rain and Rain. So we had a stroll into Side town

The Mix of nationalities at the hotel when we went were about 40% Uk nationals, 35% Germans, 20% Ukraine's/Russians and 5% rest of the world, mainly Europeans. Most staff could get by in speaking English, German and Russian which was very impressive.

Sun. Loungers. It may have been the time of year that we went, but we had no trouble getting a sun-lounger at anytime during the day. We didn't have to get up at about 3 in the morning to reserve one as does happen in some resorts.

Food and Restaurants. Great Choice and Great food. The Main Restaurant will serve you cooked breakfast, ( Fried eggs boiled and scrambled ) salads, fruit, cereals, Tea coffee, fruit juices Breakfast will be from about 7.30a.m until 11.am for those late risers amongst you. All buffet style. During the day there are two other snack places to use if you are still a bit peckish after your heaped breakfast. The one by the pool serves , chicken and chips, Toasted filled rolls and Jackets. There is also a snack bar near the beach in the grounds serving Pizza, chips, and omelets or bak to the main restaurant for a dinner. There is also a patisserie during the day that serves , coffee , cakes and ice cream. YUM!. Main restaurant is open again in the evening until 9.30p.m or you can eat ala carte twice during your stay.

Entertainment Team. They Work hard all day and evening and are very polite and friendly . Shows can be a bit Naff and I think they should have more imported professional acts to entertain the guests in-between their own acts. We did enjoy the Mr Hemera , which was funny but did drag on a bit. A Miss Hemera would have been good if incorporated into the same show. We had No Kids in tow but the Kids Club looked very well organized. Why do the Staff feel they have to wear Dungarees if they are a kids entertainer? Strange I say.

Rooms. Clean as the cleanest Clean thing. Mini Fridge and Free Safe in Room. We Locked ourself out of safe a couple of times (our fault). The Manager was up in the Room to sort it out for us so quick. We were very impressed.

Pool 1.4 meters in depth . 23-25 degrees according to weather of course. Still feels cold when you are going in after that hot sun on your body. Only takes a minute or so to warm up.

Location. If you walk to the beach area. there is a wide pathway leading to the Town of Side. Again. Very well kept and clean. If you want to walk it it will take you about half and hour. Its a nice walk along the beach area to the town

Conclusion. Well worth the visit. Great Hotel. There are better Hotels out there, but more expensive to stay. You cant go wrong here, we have a great stay. We love Turkey and this has been our fourth trip that we have enjoyed.

Room Tip: The deluxe block has bigger rooms. These rooms facing the adjacent block get the sun late afternoon...
