“AMAZING - loved it!!”
Reviewed 21 April 2011

Just got back from a week at Melissa Garden. Please do not pay any attention to the bad reviews. I don't know why anyone would complain about this place!!!

We arrived in the early hours of the morning. Reception staff were friendly and efficient and we were helped to our MASSIVE apartment which we couldn't believe we had been given. There were only four of us but we got a two bedroom apartment. It was the biggest apartment I have ever stayed in and it had two balconies. It was exceptionally clean too. The maid came every day.

Because it was the start of the season sunbeds were not an issue, plenty to go round. The pool was large and clean and there was also a pool for the kids.

Free wifi - bonus!

Entertainment wise, Turkish night is a must, so much fun! And the food was de-lish! The food in general is really good at the hotel but there are also lots of local restaurants if you prefer to eat out.

Side town is beautiful and authentic. Be prepared to haggle - I found this a lot of fun. There are lots of things to see and do and top class restaurants to be found. Ottoman's restaurant is an absolute must, in the old town near the harbour, in the square. We ate there 3 times. You must order the Ottoman Salad, so fresh and tasty. (Turkey is very good for veggies like me!)

If you want to do any trips then don't book them through Thomas Cook. Go to a local agent, will be much cheaper.

I would really recommend a Turkish bath. There is a spa right next to the hotel.

Saving the best til last.... the staff were amazing. So welcoming and friendly, they made our holiday. Such a laugh! They went out of their way to make sure everyone was happy. Elvis was the star of the show :)

Can't wait to go back!!! xxx

Me,my husband and three children got put into a two bed appartment after our long journey we had limited space to have a sleep. we were left like that for two days. then moved to an even worse appartment where the air conditioning was leaking and caused my daughter to fall and split her chin. the landing leading to our appartment was always full of water and dirty towels lying around. the maids didn't lock up properly after them and things were going missing for peoples rooms. not one person staying there when we were there was happy. the safeyt deposit box was unattached and you could walk about the room with it. WE COMPLIANED ABOUT OUR TERRIBLE HOLIDAY TO THOMAS COOK AND PROVIDED PHOTOS. They gave us over £300 in compensation but I urge you not to go here if you want to have a nice holiday try Altinkum.

was very nervous about this holiday particularly after reading some of the reviews - to the point I tried to rebook something else. shouldn';t have worried had a fantastic time. rooms basic but immaculate. we bought two cheap mugs and that was all we needed - certainly don't go on hols to stay in the apartment. boys were great not pushy great service and food the couple of times we ate in the restaurant. the surrounding restaurants no more pushy than any where else we have been - everyone fighting for business so don't blame them at all. Pool area clean and most mornings had it to myself till nearly 11am. not great views out of the apartment but it is a developing area. had great sleep every night, even though bin man arrived 6.30 every morning but hey no rubbish lying around anywhere and I wish our bin man came everyday!! all in all would def go again and would say make your own mind up. after hearing what the poor rep put up with - ' its too hot you need to do something about it' was the best one so me thinks that all these people that continually complain about such trivial things should just stay at home!

large clean basic 2 bed apartment with nice pools and terraces. staff friendly and trustworthy. Whilst we were there most of the clientele were families from germany so not many people we could chat with. The whole resort is very geared towards the germans andscandanavians and euros are widely accepted. We found the resort to be very expensive, especailly the supermarkets, where nothing is priced and the owners seem to charge what they feel like on the day and depending on who you are! The main problem with these apartments is the very loud music played from the next door bars. This starts at around midnight and ends between 3 and 5 am!! Being October, we had thought that noise would be minimum but it was nightly. Thumping beats could be heard clearly with doors and windows shut and in apartments not directly next to the bars. Many apartments are extremely close to these bars and some people said the noise was unbearable. During the day the apartments were pleasant and fairly peaceful. Due to the nightly noise and difficulty sleeping, I would probably not recoomend the apartments.

After booking this holiday with my partner ( we are a young couple) months ago as it was too good a deal to miss, i found myself reading some reviews before we left and actually thought "what have i let myself in for!" I found that i was very suprised. The hotel doesnt look much from the front as you are dropped off on the street but the hotel is very nice, good pool. Our room was the other part of the hotel and we could hear no noise at all at night. did not have a problem with getting a sunbed but it was quiet when we were there. Room is very basic but it was so cheap to eat out that we didnt cook once. we used the fridge/freezr and kettle and that was all. air con is a must! we greatly appreciated this! and only 10 lira a day! food outside the hotel is fab and soo many nice places to eat! The town of Side is a lovely place. loads of barteing took place and you can get loads of bargins! overall this holiday was a absolutly fab holiday and the area is well worth going to.

I visited the Melissa Garden for a week’s holiday, with my husband and our parents and we all had a great time. We found that the staff and the Turkish people in general were so friendly and they have a great respect for older people which meant our parents, who are all in their seventies, were treated very well indeed. They got discounts on the beach when hiring sun beds – these weren’t expensive to start with – and, when taking the bus, they were ushered on first and given seats. All in all we loved Side and spent a fabulous week at the Melissa Garden and would definitely go again.

The accommodation is basic and sparsely furnished, however, it is spotlessly clean and HUGE. You have a bedroom, kitchen/sitting room, bathroom and a double aspect balcony. To be honest, you really would not want to self cater as the equipment is very poor. We just had breakfast and a simple lunch each day and then ate out in the evenings. However, you have a large fridge and a kettle – both essential!

The complex is divided into two sections each with its own pool area with bar. These sections are separated by a small road. However, you feel safe and secure as the entrance gates are manned through the night by friendly security guards. There is a mini market here that is open 24 hours a day – very useful for buying bottled water when you first arrive in the middle of the night!

Our rooms were situated in the ‘second’, smaller part of the complex. We were really happy there as it was dead quiet and, sitting on our balconies, we felt as though we had our own private gardens, as we were not overlooked at all.

We ate at the Melissa Garden restaurant on a couple of occasions and had lovely meals. Please try the tomato soup; it may sound boring, but it’s absolutely delicious!

The only downside is, as has been mentioned by everyone, the lack of sun beds around the pools. On the up-side, the beach is a short walk away just across the road. The sea is wonderful and sun beds and parasols are only £1.50 a day. If you walk a little further round the promenade, towards Side, there are cafes where, if you have a drink, you can use the sun beds free of charge.

It is very easy to get into the centre of Side as the bus stops just across the road and, on the return journey, the driver will drop you right outside the Melissa Garden front entrance. Side is stunning with a real ‘Mediterranean’ feel and wonderful views. We had our best meals at Aphrodite and Ottomans where we found the food delicious and the staff bent over backwards to make our visit special.
