“really bad all inclusive”
Reviewed 9 August 2011

We stayed here from 23rd July to 31st July 2011, firstly I want to say that the hotel was spotlessly clean and the little bungalows were gorgeous, the whole resort is kept beautifully. OK thats all the good points done!
Seriously, one of the worst All Inclusives we have visited. There are very strict times for the meals and we were served the same meal selection for both lunch and dinner for a whole seven days. It is a tiny restaurant with around four main meal choices. It does have a large salad selection but I was still starving most nights. Dinner is served between 7-9pm, but around 8pm they just stop refreshing anything so if you are down after that there is slim pickings! There is a midnight snack available from 1130pm-midnight which we thought would be burgers or something, but no, it was a watery cauliflower soup - for the whole seven nights!!! The drink selection is the worst I have encountered, I asked for rose wine and the bartender in all seriousness pourned me half a glass of red and topped it up with white!! The rum is ok but watch the guys behind the bar because they more often than not just give you the mixer with no alcohol. We werent drinking a lot but when you pay good money for All Inclusive you expect more than a few glasses of cola. The service is also terribel unless you are German, There were a few really nice waiters but the majority were very lazy and acted like they had better things to be doing. On our first night we sat for over half an hour and had finished our starter before we were offered a drink, they then came and took our empty glasses without offering another. The bars also have weird serving times, the bar by the beach shuts at 9pm then opens again at 11pm for an hour, you have to move to another bar for the other two hours? Really annoying!
The pool is really small too, we never managed to get a sunbed round the pool area as they were all gone by 7am and there arent very many. We thought that because there is a separate kids pool with slides round by the kids club that the main pool wouldnt be too busy, we were very wrong. We actually only managed to go in the pool three times because it was full of hundreds of kids jumping in and playing. I was really gutted about this because I really look forward to relaxing in a nice pool. We went down to the beach everyday, there are loads of sunbeds there with good parasols. The beach however is crap! The shore is really rocky then about every meter in the water there are sharp rocks that just appear. My husband cut his foot, ankle and shoulder. You would try and swim or float and next minute you were hitting rocks. Really unpleasant.
Side itself was quite interesting. The hotel is centrally located and you can easily walk right round the town, eaily and safely as it is so busy and friendly. We visited teh ampitheatre and apollos temple which was gorgeous. There are the usual touristy shops and bars which are nice to look round. I reccommend the Side Beach Club where we had dinner one night and went for Mojito cocktails a few nights after dinner.
This is the first holiday I have ever had where I was quite happy to be coming home. I am not a fussy person about food and things but this place really brought out the worst in me. When you have worked all year and looked forward to a holiday, its really dissappointing to be constantly finding faults with things you expect to be fine. I could not fault the rooms, they truly are lovely and clean, as is the hotel in general. It is just the food, bars, drinks, service and pool area that let it down. I know the hotel is only rated as three star by Thomas Cook so we shouldnt have expected too much, but I can think of better ways to spend my money.
My recomendation to you is to not book this hotel but look at others in Side which looked much better. This is not good value for money, or for anyone on a coulpes holiday. We had read all the reviews on here before we went and thought it sounded great but we have no idea which hotel these people had visited because it doesnt sound like the Can Garden Beach!

The photographs and the three-star rating do not do it justice. This is a clean, exceptionally well run hotel. The location is by far the best in Side, just a few minutes' steady stroll to town and directly opposite the beach. In July it is staggeringly hot. During our two weeks the daytime temperature was in the 40s.Apparently October is a good month if you don't like baking your body. The accommodation is...different. A series of brick cabins with verandahs. Sounds awful but was marvellous. There were just my wife and I , so the room was just the right size . I don't know if there are bigger family cabins. The grounds are colourful and - like the hotel - very well kept. Gardeners are constantly trimming, pruning and watering. Side is lively at night. We wanted a quiet time so we went before lunch, stopping off at cafes along the way.Step outside the front entrance of the hotel and you're surrounded by the most magnificent Roman ruins. Unbelievably good. There is a small museum (10 euros) but you can see far more by sauntering around. Believe it or not(and I still find it hard) part of the pavement is a Roman mosaic. But back to the hotel...entertainment is good, the staff are smart, courteous and ultra efficient. The food is plentiful,a good selection, far better than average. Also I recommend the barber. A great chap. Out of 16 channels on the telly, only one (BBC World) was English language.Occasionally we came across an English language film or programme on NBCe that hadn't been dubbed. But hey - who really cares about that when they're on holiday?

Room Tip: There's no really noisy part of the hotel, although I think rooms near the road may best be avoi...

We were after a relaxing holiday and thats what we got. Though there is plenty to do as the hotel is in a very convenient location. At the front of the hotel are the ruins and it is a nice walk into Side where the harbour is. Lots of bars, shops and restaurants. For Beach lovers this hotel is ideal. Plenty of sun loungers on the hotel's private section of the beach.
There are wooden bungalows and brick bungalows set in lovely grounds. Considering the amount of vegetation around the only bugs we encountered were flies.
The cleaning was of a high standard. We experienced a good level of service from the staff.
The Pool and Pool area is kept clean. There is a convenient pool bar and there is an open restaurant where lunch is served if you do not want to go to the restaurant. They also serve pancakes here as a snack in the afternoon. They are cooked in front of you and they are to die for!
Yes there were a lot of germans. There was only one german family that were irratating though. Due to the time of year we found that it was too too hot in the day and had to take some shade for a while in the afternoon. In the evening it was very humid! The year before, we went to Turkey at the beginning of September and it was bearable as it was a few degrees cooler but still hot!
There is a little shop on site that was convenient and the lady who works in there was very friendly.
Part of the Restaurant was open air and over looking the sea which was lovely. The indoor part of the restaurant was spacious. There is also an area to have a cup of coffee after your meal.
We enjoyed the meals though we did eat out a couple of times.
We have decided to go back in 2012, can't wait!

Room Tip: Try and get a brick bungalow as these appeared to be much better than the wooden ones.

Just returned from 10glorious days at Can Garden Beach. Hotel was excellent and the location superb. Definately deserves to be rated higher than the 3 stars Thomsons class it as. On our arrival which was late at night we were allocated one of the older chalets but we were able to change rooms next morning with no problem, we were even given a choice of two rooms to look at and pick the one we wanted!! The food was excellent, and there was a good variation over the 10 days, the variety available in the snack bars at lunch time was outstanding - definately recommend the fried chicken - as good as KFC any time!!! Although the majority of guests were German we had no problems with the service, all the staff were very attentive to ALL guests .Everywhere is kept immaculately clean at all times and you could obtain clean beach towels whenever you needed them. Beach was lovely and swimming in sea great as it was sandy underfoot and you could walk out a good way in the water.
Zoe our Thomson rep was fantastic and was around everday if needed, she was really informative about the area. Location wise you could not ask for better as it was a 10 minute stroll into the old town and the ancient ruins are literally on the doorstop.
Will definately be goin back here - holiday was fantastiv and really good value for money.

Room Tip: rooms 1601-1611 not refurbished -avoid if poss

Me & my mum stayed for 10 nights last year, and it was Brilliant. Its very difficult to find a fault. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they spoke very good english which was a plus. The rooms were cosy and clean, nice and private is what I loved. You hardly ever heard anyone else outside your bungalow apart from the stray cats. The gardens were lovely to wake up and go out to, and the private beach was small but easy access so can't really complain. The food was plentyful, however half the time your not really sure what your eating as labels aren't always in english. Location was ideal, town and historic scene right on doorstep, perfect for couples and families, wouldnt really recomend to young groups. Shopping was very cheap too :)
Hope to visit again soon, was a really good holiday.

We arrived at our hotel at 0230am 90minutes later than we were told as our bus driver who shuttled us from the airport on behalf of thomsons got lost twice and had to ask locals for directions this was a very scary experience as he drove like he was taking part in grande theft auto and must have only held a fishing license. We were promptly shown to our bungalow by a porter who couldnt speak a word of english, unfortunately as it was so dark we couldnt see much at all. Then at 0600am we were woke by a morning mosque call this happend every morning and through out the night awoken several times by mating cats, there are hundreds that roam the grounds and are encouraged by the german tourists feeding them. The bungalows are glorified garden sheds and are very basic and pokey i would advise taking a dressing gown as they get very cold at night. The location of the complex is spot on right next to the beach and only a short walk from the old town although if you do want a decent spot on the lounger you must be up at the crack of dawn as the german guests get up and leave the towels on the loungers even though they do not tend to use them until mid day. There are a handful of staff whos customer service is first class but they are let down by the majority who tend to not care for the english as the majority of guests are german so they speak only speak turkish and german, one evening i waited 35 minutes for a drink so my partner orderd his in german and it was there before mine. We decided to complain to our rep about this and as we got there there was another 9 english guests with our rep also complaining for similar reasons one of whom had been threated by a german guest for asking him to turn his tv down that he had belting out in the early hours. I would definately recommend side to visit but i would stay at the hamera hotel as this is a very over rated hotel and is full of arrogant germans, thomsons should definately reconsider using this hotel for their english clientel as it is not suitable even down to the food. I tried to leave a review on thomsons website but as it was a negative one they would not list it this is very misleading
