“A Really Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

I have visited Side four times and stayed at this hotel twice, it's a really nice hotel with lovely staff, the meals were good in the hotel restaurant but there are so many places to eat in Side we ate somewhere different each night, the town of Side is built amongst Roman ruins some of the buildings actually have three walls built and one wall roman ruin, it's beautiful with lovely views, gorgeous sunsets, lots of trips and excursions to choose from, we had several massages and turkish baths and we even got invited to a wedding, well worth a visit

We stayed here during our vacation the summer of 2013.
The hotel is placed right beside the beach promenade and there are only a few steps down to the beach.

We had a room on the second floor, we did hear some noise from the nearby restaurant/night club, but it was nothing that disturbed us at all.
Our room was kind of small, and the bed took up most of the space in the room, but since we didn't spend much time in the room anyway this wasn't an issue. Otherwise the rooms are clean, modern and have excellent air conditioning.

The pool area is tranquil and has a very calm atmosphere, there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. A few times during the day the staff hand out cool towels, very nice!
The pool bar has excellent service, good food and drinks.

The restaurant and breakfast was excellent as well. They have a guy which makes you fresh omelettes and/or pancakes every morning.
The food and drinks are better at this hotel than most other restaurants in Side.

Overall it was probably the best hotel I have stayed at in a long time.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the west side, as it is quiter. The rooms on the bottom floor facing the pool hav...

Just returned from a week’s stay at this hotel and we really enjoyed our stay there. Excellent location, right by the beach and about a 10 minute-walk from the old town and harbor area. The hotel has been renovated to a good standard and although the rooms are small, they are very modern and well-planned. Unless you have mobility problems or are planning on spending a lot of time in your room, then the size shouldn’t be much of an issue. Must also add that the beds are some of the most comfortable I have slept on in any holiday hotel!  Free air-con and a safe in every room too. Small fridge. If you like your privacy, then DON’T choose poolside ground floor room, as people are walking past just a meter or so from your terrace area. We had a room on the upper floor overlooking the garden area, these have a small balcony. There is a quiet and relaxed adult atmosphere at this hotel, as since the renovation only over 16s are allowed, so no screaming kids. There were quite a few young couples, but also older people. Lovely green garden and pool area with trees and palms, which provides both sun and shade. Also it is not allowed to reserve the sunbeds by the pool (or on the hotel’s beach) before 9:30am – a very good policy which I wish more holiday hotels would adopt. The hotel provides free beach towels for use during the stay, so no need to bring your own. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful, very service-minded. We did have an issue with the cleaning staff talking very loudly outside our room and waking us in the mornings (as did a previous reviewer) but we talked to the holiday rep at out hotel, and she must have taken care of this, as we didn’t hear any noisy cleaning staff for the rest of our stay! Another reviewer here mentioned a ‘police/security’ man who followed them to their room on arrival - a very strange comment as this is simply the hotel porter who showed us to our room and helped with our bags on arrival! Breakfast was fairly good, quite a good choice (although mostly the same things every day) and plenty of fresh fruit. There was also a friendly chef frying omelets, eggs and pancakes to order. My one criticism of the breakfast was the horrible diluted ‘juices’ on offer. Not really juice but some kind of sugary mix which tasted awful, so we stuck to water. There is freshly squeezed orange juice on offer, but you had to pay extra for this – about 1.5 euros for a good-sized glass. We had a package which included 5 dinners (although we were able to swap one dinner for a lunch). For dinner there were buffet-style salads and mezes and fresh bread and these were very good. But the main courses were not buffet style, instead you were presented with a menu with 3 choices (mostly different each day) and had to choose one which was served to you. A typical choice was beef fillet with mushroom sauce, grilled chicken with rice, or salmon fillet. A half carafe of wine, a beer or a soft drink was included with this meal and a choice of desert from the buffet. We had fabulous views of the sunset as we ate dinner. But I really don’t know if I would take the dinner option again if I returned to this hotel. The food was ok, a little monotonous maybe after the week was out, but we ate out a couple of times in town and the restaurants we went to we found to be quite expensive for pretty average food. Maybe we were unlucky with the restaurant choices on these occasions, but you certainly can’t seem to get the value for money that you could get a few years ago in Turkey. We paid about 40 euros on each occasion for a meal for two – consisting in total of 2 main courses (for example lamb and fish) a half carafe of Turkish wine and a soft drink. Fairly pricey. Even though it may be easier to pay and calculate in euros than lira, be aware that many shops and restaurants charge more in euros than the equivalent cost in lira. At one restaurant they had added an extra 5 euro we found when we calculated the exchange rate. The Dogan hotel has an á la carte restaurant and although we never tried this, the prices seemed quite favorable compared to the restaurants in the town. So if I did this trip again, I would certainly choose this same hotel, but perhaps not book the dinner package and instead choose sometimes from the hotel’s regular á la carte menu and this would have given us more flexibility. The hotel’s á la carte restaurant and bar seemed popular and were pretty full every evening we noticed.

The hotel is quite recently renovated and we had a pleasant stay. We had a room on the first floor with a balcony facing the pool area. The rooms are quite small as mentioned in other reviews, but well planned. The balcony is great for early evening relaxing. The shower and toilet both have frosted glass doors but these do not go from floor to roof, so it is not for shy people. The staff were friendly and the service provided was very good. The garden and the pool was nice. There is however a tendency to lay out towels in the sunbeds by the guests early, which we found a bit rude. The breakfast was quite nice, The hotel beach is only meters away and free sunbeds are provided. This beach was a bit too crowded for our liking. The town beach is approximately 15 min walk away on the east side of old town. It is smaller, but not so crowded and with a nice atmosphere. In all we were very pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor have a little more privacy.

After reading reviews on the hotel as it used to be we (before renovation) were quite anxious prior our arrival. We arrived late at night and check-in was fast. Not to fond of the "police"/security guy who followed us to our room, but OK.

Our room was quite small, but clean and enough for 2 people. Both toilet and shower have glass doors, therefor you should be very comfortable with the people you are traveling with. You hear everything! If you experience any disturbance early morning you should try to close the ventilator by the toilet. (we heard a lot of talking from housekeeping if this was open). We had a balcony out towards the pool area which was very nice to use in the evenings. Btw...thank good for the air-condition in the room!

We used the hotel beach every day and was very pleased with both cleanliness and service. You should come quite early to be able to get a sun bed...

Breakfast was only ok, you get the basics - nothing else! We went to the restaurant a few nights, because you frankly do not want to walk far in that pressing heat. Food was quite good and service good. Compared to the restaurants around the hotel this was a very good alternative. We recommend Ocakbasi restaurant - the definite best restaurant in all of Side!!

While you are there you should try their spa! We tried their hammam spa and it was a delight!

All in all, good hotel that I can and will recommend in Side. :o)

I stayed with my family at this lovely hotel for a week, we all thought our rooms were very clean and nice. The rooms were quite small but over all we were very happy with the rooms. We got rooms on the 2:nd level overlooking the pool/ bar area.

The hotel is situated in a lovely garden setting just about 20 meters or so from the sea which was lovely. The hotel felt very relaxed and safe.

Staff was very kind and service minded which I always appreciate. The pool was not huge, but very pleasant to swim in with the bar only a few meters away, it was a perfect afternoon hangout place. One thing which was very annoying was that the people who had stayed at the hotel longer than us had some sort of system worked out which meant that they always put out their towels on the sun beds around the pool in the morning before breakfast, but they didn’t use them until a few hours after lunch, which meant that the "good seats" around the pool were taken (but vacant!) half the day until the guests returned to their "reserved seats". This so called “reservation of the seats” also happened at the hotel´s section of the beach (so if you want good places by the pool or beach get up early!). We never stayed at Hotel Dogans beach section since we though it was too small and crowded (and the beach was stony), instead we walked down about 200 meters to the right of the hotel (Kala Beach) where the beach was wider, and there was no stones to bang your feet against.

The only thing I can really fault about the hotel is its food. I think food at a hotel is a real hit or miss, and in this case it was not so good. We only had the option to book an "all inclusive holiday" for which all food and drinks were included, but we grew tired of the breakfast only after one day. Lunches and dinners are pretty much the same, the food doesn´t taste like anything which resulted in us going out for dinner and lunch almost every day (there are a lot of nice restaurants around). This hotel could gain a lot more business only by shaping up its buffet food : less food of a higher quality rather than loads of very bland tasting food. (The food served in their a la carte restaurant/ pub "My Way" was much better, although the staff there weren´t as nice as the ones in the hotels main restaurant.

So should you stay at Hotel Dogan? Well if you want a nice and clean and comfortable hotel in Side, close to the beach/ restaurants (the hotel is close to the buzzing old part of Side with all the shops and restaurants) I would recommend you tried it- I would come stay there again.

Like prevous reviewer had four great nights in Istanbul then arrived at Dogan to be told they had overbooked and was sent to neighbouring Hotel which was very poor. Small rooms, the first room we were given had a horrible smell of drains we were moved to another which was also small but no smell. We also had to wait till midday to get room in the Dogan and decided to take a twin as we were shown a double but it still needed cleaning and making up and we did not want to waste anymore time. The room was clean and tidy but very basic, towels worn and only a soap dispenser in bathroom. The breakfasts are not worth paying for, very little fruit a few segments of orange and grapefruit and sometimes melon, if you want orange juice instead of the sweet diluted drinks offered, or an omlette instead of the cold hard boiled eggs you are expected to pay extra!!! The location is good, right on the local beach and within walking distance of the main Town and sights etc but that is about all this hotel has going for it. We were also told that they would give us an evening meal to compensate, but when we tried to use this in the restaurant was told it was only for the buffet which was provided for guests on full board. I offered to pay the difference to eat al la carte but was refused, so needless to say I can't comment on the food as we never ate there. If anyone at the Dogan reads this don't you realise youy cost yourselves money by not caring about your customers!!!
The cleaning staff were very friendly, so was the girl on reception, and the beach staff. Customers should also be aware that they play music around the pool all day till about midnight
